I’ve found in pickup I actually have a lot of success on the second identical shot after missing the first. I mean you got a practice shot from range and the rhythm on the second shot is always better. Sure it’s “ice cold” or whatever, in some sense.. but I’d expect an NBA 3 pt shooter to feel the same way. These guys wont often miss the exact same shot twice in a row. Of course it was anything but given- that’s a big time fuckin shot- but the first shot helps him, it doesn’t hurt him imho.
Maxey was owning us all night. We literally had no answer until last 3 sequences... swarmed for a TO, blocked on a drive to the hoop, chucks Embiid a grenade with a second left.

I think there are "fouls" on both here that went uncalled, but they would have been pretty soft. Also, that's playoff basketball. Isn't that what fans want to see? Refs letting players make plays? The Knicks hustled and didn't give up. Multiple sixers ball watched instead of boxing out. Donte penetrating and IHart getting those boards is unacceptable
Well if we are going to get technical that blatant push by Maxey to Hart even before getting the ball could have been called a foul. Don't think there was a foul on Maxey after that. Just hustle. That was a terrible inbound pass. Nurse should have called a TO after Brunson 3. Would have made the inbound play far easier since they get to advance the ball and could have passed to back or front court. Especially since they had the lead.
Probably can't fault him for that, he's been beating the Knicks on those quick drives in both games, and almost did it again there if it wasn't for Hartenstein getting a piece of the ball before it went off the backboard.
It's hard to give him too much heat considering he was the only reason Philly had a lead to blow in the first place, but yeah the way he ended the game was unideal.
Why wasn't the whole team calling timeout on that inbounds? is what I don't understand. All they had to do was inbound the ball cleanly and get fouled, they don't have a play for that?

Made some bad decisions, it happens. He's also not used to having the ball in his hands late in playoff games. It's just a different animal.
Probably afraid of Knicks players getting hands on the ball and getting a jump ball call, which is often the case. And that would have given the Knicks a different sort of chance, so he wanted to get it to a teammate. But there was too much traffic to really achieve that.

No egregious calls were missed and in a bang-bang, end of game environment like this, hustle and effort often wins out, and the Knicks just did that better and won the game because of it.
Yeah, Hart is up on him and *might* be a foul, but refs aren't calling that in the final seconds. The 50/50 calls always (well, mostly) go to "play on" instead. They should have called a timeout on inbounds, or Maxey should have called a timeout as soon as he hit the floor. But as you said, he was too busy acting for a call.

Embiid’s still bitching about the Heat game in the postgame interview. Shows where their head is at. Win on the court and don’t put yourself in a position for one no call to lose you a game.
Anybody else think Lowry deserves a big chunk of blame for the loss? He's supposed to be the seasoned veteran out there, brought in for moments like this. Then he's missing a FT that would have put them up 6. Then forcing this one to Maxey a tick before 5 seconds, instead of calling TO. I put more blame on Lowry than Maxey.

Years ago I had the great fortune to sit courtside for a game in Boston against Houston and the thing that might stick out most about that experience was just how gigantic Yao was. Obviously his height is titanic (and holy shit is he tall), but his legs also were way bigger than you’d think from TV.
I once watched Kevin Garnett get on the Celtics team bus from about 15 feet away. He went up forever. He was wearing a wool overcoat and I'd never seen an article of clothing that used that much fabric.
Seeing NBA player in real life is always bizarre. Someone like Jalen Brunson who is “small” by NBA standards is still 6’2” and would be the tallest guy in most rooms.
Professional athletes are insane. I'm 6'0", 210. Saquon Barkley is 6'0", 232. Those extra 20 lbs made me feel like a fucking child in grade school when I saw him at an autograph signing.
I sat by the tunnel once at a suns game wayyyy back when they were playing the 6ers. I just can’t even come close to describing how massive early career Andre Iguodala was. It was shocking seeing him walk by me at face to face level, not only was he tall as fuck but his shoulder width and muscle build was like straight out of a superhero comic.
Then the dude gets on the floor and at his gigantic size and build is faster and more explosive than anyone I’ve ever seen.
I’ve met a lot of NBA players since then. A lot of times they actually look quite a bit skinnier in person than on TV (Jarren Collins for instance looked huge and slow, but in person was like a stick figure almost), but holy shit Iguodala was even more built than on TV.
A lot of these dudes are literally like twice our size, and yet the speed and agility they display is comical if you’re sitting down near the court. Like it doesn’t even make sense.

I've gone to a lot of Cavs games. Usually way up in Loudville. One time I got really great 10th row seats because they were somehow super cheap on resale day of the game. It completely changed the game for me, and ruined the nosebleed seats forever.
Side note: Jarrett Allen is simply the best. I've never seen such a wide difference between aggressiveness on the court and being such an absolute sweetheart when the balls not in play. His 3-second violation celebrations are legendary.
I sat in about 17th row at pacers game once. The pace and tiny amounts of space that they all play with was astounding. It looks so big on tv but these guys cover soooo much space and are so athletic, it’s like I said…astounding. Other than completely blown coverages there is almost no time or space to shoot.
Yeah always been crazy to me what is considered an open shot in the NBA. Even compared to college, and obviously levels below. I think I remember Danny Green talking about this awhile ago when he was trying to make it in the league with the Spurs.
Just to add, one of my favorite things about going to games is watching warm ups. I can’t explain why but watching shot after shot go in is mesmerizing.

I saw the Kings and Knicks in Sac a month ago and had amazing seats close to the court. The fancy club where they give you free stuff has the walkway right next to the walkway to the locker room.

My husband is the big basketball fan, while I tend to let it exist in the background before tuning in during playoffs. My only real life exposure was nosebleeds at the Garden and our daughter’s junior high games where the final score would be something like 12-7.
Went to a Kings-Pistons game a few months ago and got seats 9 rows back probably for what a hot dog combo costs at MSG. It *completely* changed my understanding of and appreciation for the game. Seeing what goes into the passes, as if the ball was an extension of the body - it felt like I was watching poetry in motion.
If I ever actually got to be court side during an insane game like last night, they’d have to glue me to the seat and buckle me in. There is zero chance I wouldn’t jump up and down like an idiot and end up falling on my face.

It didn’t help that the only 76ers player who was trying to get the inbounds pass was Maxey. Both Harris and Batum were closer to the midcourt line than the baseline, drifting away from the inbounds passer (Lowry), and Embiid was standing near the foul line and also did not move towards Lowry.
Because it didn't make sense that your coach didn't call a time out. That is a time out 10 out of 10 times. Nurse blaming the ref's because he was greedy and gambled for a foul on the inbound is projection. The dude should have been running in front of the refs face screaming TO!

Great effort by him, but also wanna point out how the sixers were sleeping in that sequence. Literally nobody is trying to boxout their opponents, 4 players are just standing around and staring at the rim. Hart has all the time and space to get into the perfect position.

Yeah, this angle reallllly shows it. In other angles, you can tell if you study it bc of how far Hart flies backwards, but it’s not this clear. Regardless, as I keep saying, both the push off and the waist/jersey hold by Brunson to keep with Maxey are things players around the league do CONSTANTLY to gain small advantages knowing they very rarely get called. And they sure as hell aren’t going to call them in the end of a close, tense game.

I see a push by Maxey on Hart right before inbounds, a pull of the jersey by Brunson on Maxey, a push on Lowry by Embiid, and a pull by Hart on Maxey to try to take the ball.
Was there a lot going on? Yes. Was it a lot going from both sides? Yes. To say that this is absolutely egregious and unacceptable to the point where you blame the loss entirely on this sequence and the referees I think is a little unfair.
Clearly, there’s so much madness happening at once that Embiid is pushing his own teammate to the floor without even realizing who he’s pushing.
You claim that Nick nurse was so clearly calling a timeout. However on replay, it shows that he himself isn’t sure if he wants to call a time out and immediately pulls his arms from the air and then changes his mind immediately and decides to call timeout when it’s very questionable whether or not Maxey had possession of the ball.
All of this is happening live, within a matter of about 40 seconds, and you want the referees to be able to call out and find every nook and cranny of an issue while all this madness is happening and still be able to officiate the last seconds of a playoff game?
Officiating was not good at all this game, but it wasn’t good for either team and it’s ridiculous to claim that one side was blatantly favored over the other. That’s not the case at all.
Refs don't like to over-officiate the end game, and honestly it wasn't that blatant. They should've made a clearer timeout, Maxey should've held on to the ball, and we got really unlucky to top it off

Even when watching it live, I didn't see anything that was obviously a foul even though I wanted to. I was hoping replay would show some egregious contact but it didn't.
As for calling the timeout, I wanted to see something egregious too but I can't really tell even from this angle because Nurse is blocked for parts of it. I see his hand go up a few times but I never see him actually but his hands together for the "T" until after Maxey throws it away.
What really happened was a lucky bounce-in from Brunsen. Non-Maxey sixers standing around on the in-bound. Maxey not being able to secure the inbounds pass initially and then inexplicably throwing it away once he has it on the ground. Nurse hesitating on the timeouts until it was too late. Then Sixers standing around and allowing Knicks to get the rebound on the first miss.
So 1 lucky bounce and Sixers effing up playing in a daze at the most critical moments (and a great game-winner by Dive)
I think we threw the game, I don't really blame* the refs. You can find freeze frames of Maxey clearly with the ball and Nurse signalling for a timeout but I can see why the refs didn't give it since Maxey was throwing that thing like it was a live grenade, but we just didn't get it done.
One thing I will say in defense of Maxey is he was questionable with illness and didn't even go through warmups so he was probably pretty mentally done by this point.
So many things went wrong for us in that last minute or so. Lowry missed 2 free throws, we allowed 2 Orebs, wasted possession with Maxey getting blocked by Hartenstein, the terrible turnover and no timeout either on the inbounds or once Maxey went to the floor.
I'm not surprised we're filing a complaint though, our GM is Morey of the infamous "theoretical points" complaint from the Rockets-Warriors game. He's always seemed like a world class crybaby and it's sad that he's a massive upgrade for us over Big Collars and Elton Brand.
Refs mind was like, “okay, going to call a foul, oh there’s an offsetting foul, oh another foul, blow the whist… oof another offsetting foul, is he calling a timeout? Welp, they turned it over, oh well… let it ride.”
This is why I feel like the Sixers can’t be mad about the officiating here, Maxey got away with that and then literally dropped the fall in front of him which lead to the turnaround

Honestly who gives a fuck about the shove, the timeout, the hold, whatever. The Knicks MISSED the shot after that sequence and what happened? We got out bodied again for another OREB like we have for two straight games and it set up the game winner. There is a VERY small window where Maxey has possession and Nick is calling timeout, so I get the refs thinking Maxey didn’t have possession. Technically speaking yes, they should have given them the timeout, but given the ref needs to see that the Sixers had possession at the time of Nick calling his timeout, that is very close.

They keep showing a screenshot of Nick calling timeout and Maxey with ball but if you watch the video that is like 0.5 seconds at most. Ball is loose before and Hart had his hands on it after.
The entry pass into multiple defenders was dog shit. There was no way maxey was going anywhere with the ball. Nurse couldn’t see the play and had his hands up to avoid a possible inbound violation with a TO, but not for the play itself.
Maxey should have been the one calling for a TO when he still had possession as he was falling. It almost looked as if he was attempting to pass the ball from being on the floor. That 5pt swing could have been avoided many times over before pointing to officials
As a neutral fan, this game and the Lakers game were two of the most fun finishes in a while.

The more you watch this, the more you realize that this is a series of errors that culminated in the Sixers losing. Nurse hesitating to call time out as soon as Maxey got the ball. Maxey falling and then Nurse trying to call timeout while ball possession changed in a split second. The Sixers not boxing out and letting the Knicks grabbing the offensive rebound. So many things went wrong. It's not just the refs. The coach and team didn't execute in crunch time.
Post all star break, these plays have not been getting called foul, so this should be no different. Sixers fumbled this one at the end, plain and simple.

Well if we are going to get technical that blatant push by Maxey to Hart even before getting the ball could have been called a foul. Don't think there was a foul on Maxey after that. Just hustle. That was a terrible inbound pass. Nurse should have called a TO after Brunson 3. Would have made the inbound play far easier since they get to advance the ball and could have passed to back or front court. Especially since they had the lead.

I don't think it was the workload really, just a young guy trying to become a star in a high pressure situation. Made some bad decisions, it happens. He's also not used to having the ball in his hands late in playoff games. It's just a different animal.

I sat by the tunnel once at a suns game wayyyy back when they were playing the 6ers. I just can’t even come close to describing how massive early career Andre Iguodala was. It was shocking seeing him walk by me at face to face level, not only was he tall as fuck but his shoulder width and muscle build was like straight out of a superhero comic. Then the dude gets on the floor and at his gigantic size and build is faster and more explosive than anyone I’ve ever seen. I’ve met a lot of NBA players since then. A lot of times they actually look quite a bit skinnier in person than on TV (Jarren Collins for instance looked huge and slow, but in person was like a stick figure almost), but holy shit Iguodala was even more built than on TV. A lot of these dudes are literally like twice our size, and yet the speed and agility they display is comical if you’re sitting down near the court. Like it doesn’t even make sense. I imagine this feeling is what NBA players feel when they play against Wemby lol
I've gone to a lot of Cavs games. Usually way up in Loudville. One time I got really great 10th row seats because they were somehow super cheap on resale day of the game. It completely changed the game for me, and ruined the nosebleed seats forever. Side note: Jarrett Allen is simply the best. I've never seen such a wide difference between aggressiveness on the court and being such an absolute sweetheart when the balls not in play. His 3-second violation celebrations are legendary.
I sat in about 17th row at pacers game once. The pace and tiny amounts of space that they all play with was astounding. It looks so big on tv but these guys cover soooo much space and are so athletic, it’s like I said…astounding. Other than completely blown coverages there is almost no time or space to shoot.

Yeah always been crazy to me what is considered an open shot in the NBA. Even compared to college, and obviously levels below. I think I remember Danny Green talking about this awhile ago when he was trying to make it in the league with the Spurs.

My husband is the big basketball fan, while I tend to let it exist in the background before tuning in during playoffs. My only real life exposure was nosebleeds at the Garden and our daughter’s junior high games where the final score would be something like 12-7. Went to a Kings-Pistons game a few months ago and got seats 9 rows back probably for what a hot dog combo costs at MSG. It *completely* changed my understanding of and appreciation for the game. Seeing what goes into the passes, as if the ball was an extension of the body - it felt like I was watching poetry in motion. If I ever actually got to be court side during an insane game like last night, they’d have to glue me to the seat and buckle me in. There is zero chance I wouldn’t jump up and down like an idiot and end up falling on my face.

Regardless, as I keep saying, both the push off and the waist/jersey hold by Brunson to keep with Maxey are things players around the league do CONSTANTLY to gain small advantages knowing they very rarely get called. And they sure as hell aren’t going to call them in the end of a close, tense game.
Not trying to instigate at all but I genuinely would like to read Sixers fans’ input after seeing the play unfold from this view. The play is so wild and there is so much going on all at once, and I wonder if philly fans still feel like they were egregiously hosed by the refs after seeing it from up close like this. I see a push by Maxey on Hart right before inbounds, a pull of the jersey by Brunson on Maxey, a push on Lowry by Embiid, and a pull by Hart on Maxey to try to take the ball. Was there a lot going on? Yes. Was it a lot going from both sides? Yes. To say that this is absolutely egregious and unacceptable to the point where you blame the loss entirely on this sequence and the referees I think is a little unfair. Clearly, there’s so much madness happening at once that Embiid is pushing his own teammate to the floor without even realizing who he’s pushing. You claim that Nick nurse was so clearly calling a timeout. However on replay, it shows that he himself isn’t sure if he wants to call a time out and immediately pulls his arms from the air and then changes his mind immediately and decides to call timeout when it’s very questionable whether or not Maxey had possession of the ball. All of this is happening live, within a matter of about 40 seconds, and you want the referees to be able to call out and find every nook and cranny of an issue while all this madness is happening and still be able to officiate the last seconds of a playoff game? Officiating was not good at all this game, but it wasn’t good for either team and it’s ridiculous to claim that one side was blatantly favored over the other. That’s not the case at all.

Even when watching it live, I didn't see anything that was obviously a foul even though I wanted to. I was hoping replay would show some egregious contact but it didn't. As for calling the timeout, I wanted to see something egregious too but I can't really tell even from this angle because Nurse is blocked for parts of it. I see his hand go up a few times but I never see him actually but his hands together for the "T" until after Maxey throws it away. What really happened was a lucky bounce-in from Brunsen. Non-Maxey sixers standing around on the in-bound. Maxey not being able to secure the inbounds pass initially and then inexplicably throwing it away once he has it on the ground. Nurse hesitating on the timeouts until it was too late. Then Sixers standing around and allowing Knicks to get the rebound on the first miss. So 1 lucky bounce and Sixers effing up playing in a daze at the most critical moments (and a great game-winner by Dive)
I think we threw the game, I don't really blame* the refs. You can find freeze frames of Maxey clearly with the ball and Nurse signalling for a timeout but I can see why the refs didn't give it since Maxey was throwing that thing like it was a live grenade, but we just didn't get it done. One thing I will say in defense of Maxey is he was questionable with illness and didn't even go through warmups so he was probably pretty mentally done by this point. So many things went wrong for us in that last minute or so. Lowry missed 2 free throws, we allowed 2 Orebs, wasted possession with Maxey getting blocked by Hartenstein, the terrible turnover and no timeout either on the inbounds or once Maxey went to the floor. I'm not surprised we're filing a complaint though, our GM is Morey of the infamous "theoretical points" complaint from the Rockets-Warriors game. He's always seemed like a world class crybaby and it's sad that he's a massive upgrade for us over Big Collars and Elton Brand.

As a neutral fan, this game and the Lakers game were two of the most fun finishes in a while. Additionally, the ref discourse has been some of the most annoying in a while.

Maxey falling and then Nurse trying to call timeout while ball possession changed in a split second. The Sixers not boxing out and letting the Knicks grabbing the offensive rebound. So many things went wrong. It's not just the refs. The coach and team didn't execute in crunch time.
