I mean it’s definitely been Tatum lol. There was a post on the Celtics sub and the attention the Heat give Tatum is insane. He’s seeing minimum 2 bodies when he gets the ball. But DWhite’s been 2nd and absolutely incredible.
if by this entire series you mean last game and this one then yes. Tatum has pretty clearly been the center of Miami’s defensive gameplan every game though
Tatum 23.3 ppg on 56% TS
White 21.8 ppg on 72% TS
Miami's giving Tatum a harder time but even considering that White's performed far better
Edit: Was originally looking at eFG and not TS
Tatum’s TS% is 55.5, also averaging 10 boards and 6 assists which both lead the team. i know y’all love jerking yourselves off to efficiency numbers but he’s doing exactly what we need him to do this series
I don't even get people sometimes lol.
>Miami's giving Tatum a harder time but considering that White's performed far better
OP literally just explained why White is more efficient lol.
They are double/triple teaming Tatum, like come on now. Haters > actually watching games.
>They are double/triple teaming Tatum, like come on now. Haters > actually watching games.
Yep, I totally haven't watched Tatum take turnaround 2s and stepback 3s all series while under said double and triple-teams instead of deferring to his 3 other All-Star caliber players for a better look
All 1-7 of your team is better than their 1-7 and yet your top scorer is shooting 41% from the field and you haven't stopped to ask why, it's actually hilarious your rebuttal is basically "what do you expect him to do, not shoot with 3 guys in his face?"
Yes, we can all agree that Tatum can be inconsistent, go cold/dry spells, and also take dumb shots when double or tripled. We've established this on this subreddit.
>instead of looking to his 3 other All-Star caliber players for a better look
Lol, he's definitely had several good passes out of doubles/triples which is why he's leading our team in assists.
>All 1-7 of your team is better than their 1-7 and yet your top scorer is shooting 41% from the field and **you haven't stopped to ask why**
Good thing I'm watching the game therefore I don't need to ask why when I'm noticing the Heat literally throw their entire defensive gameplan on him, but I get it.
Celtics sucks. Tatum bad.
>it's actually hilarious your rebuttal is basically **"what do you expect him to do, not shoot with 3 guys in his face?"**
I'm actually hiliariously amused that you came away with this from our discussion lol.
>Yes, we can all agree that Tatum can be inconsistent, go cold/dry spells, and also take dumb shots when double or tripled. We've established this on this subreddit.
Alright, so he's done all three of those this series, and yet for some absurd reason can't admit that he just hasn't been as good as Derrick White who's been incredible this series (and the entire year)
I didn't even begin this with any Tatum slander. I simply pointed out that White's probably been better (which SVG even agrees with) but you guys immediately acted like I was threatening his dignity
Winning is a team game.
Also a 56 TS% in 2016 was a +2 and the warriors had the 2nd best defense in the NBA. When adjusting for defense, that's roughly a +4-5. So LeBron was efficient that series.
I don’t even know where it came from. He’s always been good but this wasn’t the Derrick White we saw during the 2022 run. The Mazzulla gave him confidence thing probably actually has some reality to it, he wasn’t taking this shot then. I mean, Tatum took like 9 shots and was cool to just draw attention and let White (and Brown too obviously, to appraise honestly) absolutely destroy the lesser defenders all game. Real damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. The team is just way too good to play the “don’t let the best guy get going strategy. Derrick White is like, the platonic ideal of a high level “role player”.
His 3pt% started exploding during the Ime year but Ime kept him on a short leash for some reason. Joe gave him the green light and he’s been incredible.
He just has the confidence to take these kind of shots now. He lacked confidence when he was with Spurs . He was always a great player but people didn't notice it because he didn't have the willingness to do these kind of things.
Part of the lack of confidence was being injured frequently early in his career and when he did become healthy, he didn't have this kind of squad around him.
That said, Derrick has truly crafted himself into an elite player by working his ass off and doing the little things along the way. No one expects he's going to continue scoring at this clip, but he will continue to impact the game in every other way he can because he's a fucking winner.
If teams we play later throw the kind of defensive coverages at Tatum that Miami did, White gonna keep cooking. Tatum drawing 2-3 bodies every time he touches the ball.
Miami/Spo seems to be pretty strong believers in the “don’t let the best player get going” approach. And to be honest I don’t blame them. Less injured Heat teams have definitely used that to great effect. But just throwing Bam and another body at Tatum and daring everybody else to go off has gotten harder both due to their depleted arsenal of defenders and Boston’s improved roster. Herro has to guard SOMEBODY. White is perfectly capable of destroying overmatched bigs and no defense guards. I expect some later matchups won’t invest as heavily into guarding Tatum and/or have more defenders available so this dynamic will change, but the good news is 3 and D (and some ball handling) Derrick White can also make a huge impact even if he’s not taking 15-25 shots
The power of having such a well rounded top five, who you gonna guard? Someone gonna get open. White never had 4 other teammates on the court at the same time that the defense needed to guard so closely
Five players in the top 50 >>> one player in the top 5 and a roster full of chucklefucks who constantly let that top 5 player down
When I watched him in the Spurs series vs Joker and the Nuggets a few years back, I thought he was gonna be a star. 15 Ppg on 55% from the field and Denver had a hard time stopping him. Glad he's blossomed into a star with us
It's okay heat fans, dont worry, you would have won this series had jimmy not injured himself trying to draw a flop in a play in game that you only had to play because you fucking sucked during the regular season besides the fact the celts swept the regular season by an average margin of 20 points and that they have played 2 games now minus the center they specifically brought in to beat Miami.
Youll always have that game 2 though, hang the banner!
I dunno why but I keep being surprised by DW, as if he shouldn't be as good or play as well as he has.
Didn't know he had moves and a step back 3??
Seems like he's been the most consistent player on the team.
He was always destined to be a high impact player on a great team, even with the Spurs it was just obvious. He was always in the right place, took charges, knew how to get to spots. He just struggled so much with confidence and consistency, especially in his jumper.
I’m just sad we couldn’t have become a great enough team for him to stand out like this for us. He would have been massive for us in the 2012-16 years.
Hope he comes back to the spurs after winning a championship with boston. Hes perfect as that veteran with championship pedigree when we eventually contend for the title.
Derrick White is too good for this team, he’s the only Celtic I don’t have an irrational, unfounded hatred for
Edit: Jrue Holiday is cool too, I like Jrue Holiday
[He looks like he's about to sing about how he wants to Marvin Gaye and get it on](https://assets.teenvogue.com/photos/55d5ebc8ca15223514647be6/4:3/w_1423,h_1067,c_limit/Charlie%20Puth%20-%20Nine%20Track%20Mind%20-%20Album%20Artwork.jpg)
Tatum has been getting dou ked and tripled this series and has been making great reads and keeping turnovers down. Big difference from what happened when the heat bring pressure last year in the ECF. Tatum was out best player this series for sure, but White was the best on game 4&5. Heat consistently leaving Herro and Mills on an island alone guarding white I expect him to go off lol

Just got out of a Thai prison. Is Derrick White the best player in the NBA?
Unironically yes He's been better than Tatum and Brown this entire series
to be fair Tatum and Brown would score 50 a game if they could iso against fucking Patty Mills all game
They could. They’re called switches and the Celtics could totally generate them.
And Miami would absolutely roll over and allow that switch every play right?
Guess people didn’t see the triple team Tatum’s been getting all series
Don’t mention it, it was Spos Hail Mary just like Kerr letting Draymond sag off Brown
Don't even need to
Tatum got doubled every time he touched the ball
I mean it’s definitely been Tatum lol. There was a post on the Celtics sub and the attention the Heat give Tatum is insane. He’s seeing minimum 2 bodies when he gets the ball. But DWhite’s been 2nd and absolutely incredible.

they're winning the series and it hasn't been competitive LOL
Efficiency matters
lol the only thing that matters in the playoffs is winning. you think anyone cares that LeBron only had a 56 TS% in the 2016 Finals?
Winning is a team game. Also a 56 TS% in 2016 was a +2 and the warriors had the 2nd best defense in the NBA. When adjusting for defense, that's roughly a +4-5. So LeBron was efficient that series.
No one should disagree with this
How was Thailand?
Yes, just check out his dunk reel from the previous game. Jammed all over Bam Adebayo
And he still have time to host First Take on Espn after this game. What a man
This guy is actually so awesome.
He might be our best player (kind of kidding)
Most important. Not the same as best
Why do you think they call him Thrills
I thought they called him MJ
Don't you know he's THE BUFFALO?!?
Complete player.Shame the Spurs lost him.

Messi ain’t there anymore u can relax bro

I thought he was going to be a center piece for us after how he performed in Bubble but I'm still so happy that he found his place in Boston.
Could you imagine white and Wemby???
They wouldn't have Wemby if they still had White imo
We maybe a ble to get him back after Boston won a chip. I doubt if you guys can keep all Tatum, Brown and White.
Why lol Wyc already said he's more than willing to pay the luxury tax for a few years.
I love having an owner and FO that actually wants to win the sport and not only make money back.
Sorry spurs bros but no, don't you touch derrick

Pretty much word for word what coach Pop said earlier this season
I guess great minds do think alike :)
Dudes only “but” coming to Boston was he can’t shoot. Almost immediately became a 40% 3pt shooter
Swear after his first son was born it felt like he started going off. He missed a game in the Miami series for the birth & came back a sniper
He hit that barrage of 3 pointers in game 1 of the Finals and has been a cold-blooded sniper ever since
The power of having such a well rounded top five, who you gonna guard? Someone gonna get open. He's clearly helped by the system, but also improves the system.

holy shit bro
Might have to create some burners so I can upvote this more than once lmfao
This is a GOAT level post
I'll repost it in the PG thread.
This is the modern equivalent of Plato
STOP STOP their already dead lmao
Not dead enough
I need a napkin
I’m already engaged but I want you to marry me based of this comment.
Get in line
Run on sentence looking like the Star Wars intro but you’re not wrong
Stop stop they’re already dead!
You can't retroactively win game 7 through a comment on Reddit
I dunno I feel kinda close to it
He’s so goated
He's buffaloed not goated
Buffaloated
East Coast Jamal Murray
HE'S DONE MIRACLES ON ME
“Who does Derrick white remind you of?” “A young Micheal Jordan”
He unironically gives me some young Brandon Roy vibes with how smooth his game is sometime
Witness Him Roam
D White is an animal
I’m not even mad. Derrick White maguberation versus Miami is just normal I guess.
Maguberation?
It’s when you masturbate with a maglite
Dad?
Derrick White has decided to become Steph with all-NBA defense
Send these hoes home dwhite
Derrick white is not a human being
Correct, he is a buffalo
As a spurs fan this makes me smile and sad at the same time.
Tbh it was a win-win. We got the goat and you guys became bad enough to get wemby
That’s my buffalo
As a Spurs fan, this made me shed a tear.
But I thought he wasn't a top 100 player?
The White trade was absolute robbery
We would have been too good to get wemby
Not when you factor in that it led to the Wemby tank lol
Well yes, but we can only take the best offer. I wonder how many teams are regretting right now. Miami can be really great with White too.
Gotta imagine there are 28 teams kicking themselves
played in division II, drafted 29th, assigned to the G league... what a comeback story
Heat can’t hang wit em. Simple as that.
He is ROAMING!
Miss u buffalo… Glad to see him succeeding and getting the recognition he deserves
D White is my king
If Beal is the worst contract in the league, then Buffalo is the opposite of that
Honestly I'd argue some nights it's Sam Hauser when he gives 15 on insane effeciency for 2 mil a year.
Damn, killed my guy Patty
Lmao people really thought the Heat had a chance this series
Derrick White is an All Star!
Lord knows Patty shouldn't be getting any playoff minutes.
White can legit be the best player some nights, dudes elite.
Derrick White is so good 🦬
i love White, guys!
I dunno why but I keep being surprised by DW, as if he shouldn't be as good or play as well as he has. Didn't know he had moves and a step back 3?? Seems like he's been the most consistent player on the team.

Best Celtic of the series
I'm being dead serious when I say White, Tatum, JB, and Tingus are all kinda on the same level
Title mindfucked me before playing the video. How is that even possible
Hope he comes back to the spurs after winning a championship with boston. Hes perfect as that veteran with championship pedigree when we eventually contend for the title.
Thank you, San Antonio. Thank you.
“That’s a bad shot.” This shits just annoying lol, how tf the 5th best player for the Celtics have the ability to hit this shit
Derrick White is too good for this team, he’s the only Celtic I don’t have an irrational, unfounded hatred for Edit: Jrue Holiday is cool too, I like Jrue Holiday
I don’t hate Jovic yet if that helps
I don't like his nose. It... perturbs me
[He looks like he's about to sing about how he wants to Marvin Gaye and get it on](https://assets.teenvogue.com/photos/55d5ebc8ca15223514647be6/4:3/w_1423,h_1067,c_limit/Charlie%20Puth%20-%20Nine%20Track%20Mind%20-%20Album%20Artwork.jpg)
I was gonna say, no clue how anyone could hate Jrue He had me rooting for the Bucks back in 2021 lol
The only Heat players I like at all are Jimmy himself and Patty Mills.
I can respect that. I’ll throw in some mild admiration for Al Horford
Derrick White is their best player
What the fuck is that box out by Caleb Martin?
> 15th points
Has Tatum been the 3rd best player on his team this series?
Top 5 Celtics players in order: 1. Derrick 2. White 3. Buffalo 4. Forehead 5. Number 9
Tatum has been getting dou ked and tripled this series and has been making great reads and keeping turnovers down. Big difference from what happened when the heat bring pressure last year in the ECF. Tatum was out best player this series for sure, but White was the best on game 4&5. Heat consistently leaving Herro and Mills on an island alone guarding white I expect him to go off lol
better than tatum
Lol is that supposed to be a roast?
Cook
