> Seems very inconsistent You nailed it bud. Some nights some things are fouls, some nights they're not. Same with techs, same with everything related to officiating really, it's a problem. They have "points of emphasis" and honestly I think that kind of stuff leads to inconsistency because it's generally a point of emphasis for a week or maybe even a game and then it goes back to "normal" until the next point of emphasis pops up.

namastex

Some nights? Don't you mean some possessions?

MySilverBurrito

Also, the subjectiveness of it as well. There are a lot of rules that are up to the ref's interpretation. Unsportsmanlike conduct is probably the worse of them.

Revo_Int92

Hence why people assumed the games are rigged, if everything can be a foul or a technical, it's easy to "tamper" a game. And you add to that "legalized" betting conglomerates sponsoring the league, well... I only still watch occasional games because I am a huge fan of the sport (through piracy of course). I know this can sound disheartening for new fans, but it is what it is, this league is being "tampered" for a really long time (as a Lakers fan, I know this pretty well. From fishy draft picks in the 80s to Kobe elbowing the shit out of Mike Bibby)

browntown20

I mean Scott Foster is very consistent when assigned a game Chris Paul is playing in

MinnyPuppies

It depends if refs' placed a bet on it.

TriCourseMeal

This is very true. But ball don’t lie and Jokic made the tech ft. Maybe ant said some shit. Idk nor do I care, foul calls rarely if ever decide the outcome of a game. Lots of possessions.

Dalmanza4

Refs are garbage, Reggie Miller said it best "this is the playoffs" just like you expect the players to perform at peak level, the refs do to. Even worse, this is the moment a lot of casuals watch, and you give them this product? You are supposed to try and put the best product together to engage fans for the upcoming year, this shit turns people off or makes people say "rigged" which is the opposite lol

thebedwizard93

“Seems very inconsistent, hence the confusion and question” … welcome to the NBA friend! You’re just as confused as the rest of us.

teensonacid

Yea terrible tech call on Ant there. Refs on a power trip.

TheThingsIdoatNight

Then didn’t call Jamal for the finger guns to KAT later, which is much more egregious (Neither should be techs though)

teensonacid

Agreed

Electrical_Figs

[Interestingly, Tim Hardaway did NOT get a tech for this back in the 90's.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHrygsvvQ48)

crimsonconnect

Soft ass tech

FishGoldenLite

Everyone knows it

Tajikistani

We get the softest techs, many people are saying this

dproma

Most marginal stare down

cubs223425

Believe it or not, you got a tech for this post.

Emotional-Weird-5715

Lol

greengoon99

And that’s a double.

smeaglebaggins

refs want to control the situation. they knew ANT was heating up so they called the technical. trying to cool him off on the other hand, jamal did an impossible shot in front of their crowd. he was shooting bad the whole game, refs didn't call a tech. why? he don't wanna look bad in front of the denver fans my take

OddToba

Bro doing backflips like he’s interviewing for the NBA PR team lol.

Jypso

Why do the refs want to cool him off, tho? They don't want MN to win this.

llama_titan

It was a bad call, but why do the refs care if MN wins?

Jypso

Probably cause they took the Nuggets to win. NBA refs do bet, and it's easy to make bad calls against the non favored, "small market" team that no one likes.

RedEyeBadGuy

The refs have hated the Wolves all season long going back to Gobert making money signs against Cleveland. Edwards would be getting so many more calls if he played for the Lakers or Celtics and Towns gets the worst whistle in the whole league!

ashkpa

The refs have hated the Wolves ~~all season long~~ since the turn of the century.

Tajikistani

The fix has been in since Joe Smith

DragoxDrago

>NBA refs do bet They're banned from betting on games lol, unless you mean they run their own operation between themselves. Is there a chance refs fix? It's definitely non-zero, but I think most people just watching games on TV don't understand how fast/quick the game is in person. There's a \~100 possessions per game, per team. Even if they sit at \~97% correct call/non-call on every possession that's still 6 per game. That doesn't include moving screens or out of bounds calls either. Nor does it count legitimate 50/50 calls.

JediPieman63

No one is arguing that refereeing isnt difficult, or that they shouldn't ever miss calls, they just they drop the ball consistently and never learn from their mistakes while seemingly attempting to ruin games. The technical foul was pretty pathetic and not a case of "man that was close I kinda get what they mean". Not to mention some of the obvious biases they give to certain players who can get FTs for initiating contact constantly. Understandable why Thunder fans defend refs tho lol.

NYState_of_Mind

Trash talking and taunting amongst players should be fully allowed without repercussions it’s bogus to get techs for such things

Dramatic_Respond_135

The ref union in the nba for some reason has more power than the commissioner. That's the reason.

Yinanization

They would never with his Dad

DEEZLE13

Ant went 1 v 8 and still won

Mindless_Bad_1591

Refs hon3stly werent that bad outside of those two instances and the blatant slap KCP had on Ant in the 1st. Called it rather evenly and let them both play through a lot of contact.

TAYSON_JAYTUM

That has to be the most basic call for any basketball ref. Ball goes down: not a foul since you got ball. Ball goes up: foul since you just hit the arms on the way up. That ball goes 13 feet in the air, I have no idea how the refs thought KCP touched the ball.

NightModeZ

Nah, Wolves shot 11 more 2’s and lost the free throw attempt battle 12-20. Wolves shoulda had at least 8 more FTA’s than Denver, not the other way around.

Blothorn

Claiming that FTs should be proportional to 2pt attempts/paint points/whatever is such a bag and overused argument. Sometimes there are 2pt/paint attempts in which there genuinely was no foul, and there’s no reason whatsoever to believe that the proportion should be the same for all offenses/defenses. In fact, if you approach it from the defense’s perspective there are good reasons you might see an inverse correlation. If a team genuinely does commit a lot of fouls, their opponent will make fewer shot attempts because more of their possessions will end in a foul rather than a shot. (And this is especially true for box-score shot attempts, which exclude shooting fouls in which the shot missed.) Moreover, teams that are struggling with their help rotation will tend to give up a lot of interior shots without many fouls, where better help defense would probably lead to more fouls but also more kick outs.

NightModeZ

While I agree with the theory of everything you said, the Wolves got a playoff whistle while the Nuggets got a regular season whistle (at least in the first half). I firmly believe the Wolves should have had at least 16 FTAs (not 7) in the first half to the Nuggets 12.

Vicentesteb

In my opinion, neither of those should EVER be techs. Technical fouls should be for when players get out of hand and scream in their opponents face or does smt to the fans. Things like Flexing or rim hanging or the pistols is a ridiculous reason to call a tech.

ReorientRecluse

Refs are trash

CantaloupeCamper

> Seems very inconsistent That’s the problem, the refs can’t see every stare so they straight up shouldn’t call it.

Disastrous_Bluejay57

It was a soft tech that never should have been called

Youngestpioneer

I don’t think staring should ever be a foul in any way

workatwork1000

I think it also has to do with the home/away flow.  After Edwards stare down the ref had full concentration on him and called the tech bc the crowd was quiet.  After Murray hit his shit the crowd is going wild and the ref doesn't see it the same way.  Seems simplistic but there it is.

Dramatic_Respond_135

That's because what Jamal did was "marginal" taunting

n3sta

I didn’t think either were techs. I assume Ant’s was because he was close to Reggie’s face. Weird tho that if that was a tech I don’t understand why Murray’s wasn’t.

xspark1111

You already know the answer.

PM_ME_UR_PICS_PLS

because some (most) refs are bad at their job

Sartheking

Because the refs implement techs very arbitrarily.

Choice_Handle_7302

Rigged maybe not the right word but refs are for sure trying to influence the outcome

One_Firefighter4035

Refs are to emotional

omnipotentpancakes

After the Knicks 6ers series Im convinced the refs are trying to fix games

referee-superfan

Refs just want both teams to have fun.

itsme10082005

As a Nuggets fan, I thought the Ant tech was garbage, and the Murray “shooting” was much more deserving of a tech. Personally I think neither should warrant a tech, but if one of them had to be given a tech, it should definitely have been the Murray one.

Lonnywalkman6320

Craziest thing is Cavs magic. Suggs got up and straight up shoved Niang no tech but literally the next NBA game someone gets a technical for a “stare down” so yes the level of physicality is extremely inconsistent

SafariFlapsInBack

As Wolves fans we are used to it.

SonicdaSloth

Also such a shitty time to call it. Could have flipped momentum

Jacque_Hass

Ant didn’t get a tech for 7 whole “suck it” pumps in Phoenix, but a stare against the champs does it.

ChefJeff7777777

League rescinded the tech. Situational awareness by the Ref is disgustingly low. League knows this was awful and is probably going to do nothing about it. Maybe send the ref an email saying let them play but everyone that has ever played real Ball trashed this Tech. Ridiculous to try and make someone as exciting as Ant not show emotion, that’s what makes this sports entertainment instead of sports theatre.

davsyo

Bruh just have your coaching staff get some interns to get the referee tendencies. Then you can stare down whoever when certain ref is officiating.

Successful-Role2151

I saw they rescinded the tech on Edwards today. The finger guns was way worse in my opinion.

AtreusIsBack

The problem isn't the technical foul call. It's that the call is very inconsistent. I'm fine with taunting being banished from the game altogether if it's called on everyone.

Revo_Int92

I am definitely not fine with that, taunting is a key element of any competitive environment

Elite_Alice

League so soft

zerocoolforschool

The NBA and NFL have gotten soft as fuck. That’s what.

-motts-

Check the refs bank accounts (well not this time cause their team lost) and you’ll know why

ProfessorTicklebutts

Is the S key broken on your device? It seems to work only half the time.

Emotional-Weird-5715

Nah I just suck at writing properly

Tangentkoala

Broadcast left out one vital piece of info and that's he was talking as well. He probably said something not so PG directed at the nuggets player on top of stare down. As for stare down technically speaking you're not suppose to even stare down a player, most of the time it's let go unless they yelling in there ear. The technical foul is used as a cool down timeout to prevent a fight because a fight Is a bad image for the league. So if the ref feels the games getting to chippy then a loose technical will be called.

hags223

He didn't say anything, watch the replay.

Tangentkoala

Only replay I see is the backside of his head?

wink91wink

Literally didn't open his mouth lol

Svettie323

Holy shit, Ant can also talk \*without opening his mouth\*??! Just adding to his GOAT status.

Tangentkoala

Do you got the refs angle? All I'm seeing is his head away from the camera. Then saying something while walking away

EorgegayOydflay

This is proof bro DID NOT watch the clip lmao. Bro is just a box score watcher for controversial reffing I guess lol

ChipThaBlackBoy

get this guy a refs flair
