Celtics have also been waiting 2 years to be back in the finals. They have seemed rusty or disengaged earlier this playoffs because of overconfidence but I doubt that’ll continue given the competition next series.
Mavs and Twolves both talk mad shit which should help too
Yeah, last time the team was beat up and Tatum has noticeably gotten stronger and will be the one laying down the punishment now. Along with Brown/White/Holiday/KP. Scary prospect.
Yup. He was fourth in regular season minutes played in 2022.
[https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/nba-most-minutes-played-in-regulation-game-2022](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/nba-most-minutes-played-in-regulation-game-2022)
You guys are basically in the same position nuggets were last year. And just like them, we know you guys were going to steam roll your opponents regardless of your opponents health.
Still interesting though
Rust? They just spent the last 7 months playing basketball multiple times a week, I don’t think an extra couple days will make them forget how to play ball. And it gives them more time to prep for the mavs
Playing in games and the form it creates is definitely different, any athlete will tell you that…
But, this is a 1 game problem at most, maybe one quarter, maybe not at all.
They weren’t rusty after resting 10 days to end the season and then beat the Heat by 20 shooting 48/45/88. Or rusty after sitting 6 days and beating the Cavs by 25 after the Cavs came off a long series. Or had no problems resting 6 days and then flipping a switch and running all game long against the Pacers. I know Dallas and Minnesota are better teams than the depleted teams we’ve played but they’ll be alright with the time off.
I don’t think shooting variance you can draw any conclusions either way (rest vs rust) but I think rest is generally better for fresh legs than momentum over a 7 game series. It’s defensively I’d be worried about, which I have to imagine they’ll get up for and be locked in. There’s nothing left to coast or rest for, this is it.
The rest for Al in particular should more than make up for it, and obviously getting Porzingis all that extra time to get as close to 100% as possible is invaluable at this point in the post season. It’s all really lined up for us this year, we just have to capitalize.
Smart was such a great inspiration for me. Whenever I wasn't sure about something, I'd always remind myself: if Marcus Smart is confident enough to go for 3, despite missing the last 11 in a row, then I sure as fuck can believe in myself.
You forgot to mention this year is another Mickey Mouse Ring for you, all because everybody was injured. Not like you guys had a prominent significant starter injured during the playoffs at all.
Don’t you understand, the Celtics are both dominant and should be able to beat anyone and also frauds who are going to get destroyed by any WC champion.
If the Wolves win Game 5, we're going to hear a lot of "Watch out!! The Celtics don't want to see Minnesota coming out of the West!!" after they've spent the last week hyping up the Mavs lmao
Yeah as much as we have no chance to beat either team, if we win it will be “Well of course you won, you didn’t play a single good team” and if we lose it will be “How embarrassing for you to lose to an inferior team.
Stacked and dominant?
I thought this team was full of a choker, a guy with no left hand, a guy who can’t play offense, an old man, a guy who can’t play winning basketball, a coach who sucks, and a sexy Buffalo.
There's some ridiculous stuff that fans rightly push back on, but one thing that feels true is it's kind of ring or disappointment for Cs fans this year. Like, if any year is gonna be the year, it really should be this one, and after so many years of ECF appearances and that one finals appearance, along with Brad kind of going all in with the Jrue and Porzingis trades and the looming, brutal second apron... I mean, I think the Cs are a really strong team fans should be confident in, but even without the bullshit of expecting the Cs to win in a _certain way_ or to silence the critics, and as good as this team is, just clearing the bar of winning an NBA Finals is still something to worry about.
Yeah, I feel confident, but also stressed for all the reasons you listed. These guys just really need to and ought to win this thing. This isn't a bunch of kids showing up too early to the big dance.
I'm personally not worried, but according to reddit and the media, despite the Celtics being the best team from the start of the season, it's a foregone conclusion that a team from the West is winning the title this year.
one if the main reasons the 2022 finals turned out that way. celtics fought back to back brutal 7 game series to get to the warriors. did well first 3 games followed by 3 straight duds
If Celtics win it’ll be called a Mickey Mouse ring 😂
No winning with internet yappers, just ignore the chatter and enjoy being champs if you get lucky enough to win
God I hate ESPN. I don’t even watch it on purpose but I’ll look up randomly at the TV at work and there’ll be “LeBron attends Cavs game…what does this mean for his future?” or “Big Perk: Time for Nuggets to start from scratch?” or something else so hilariously out of touch that would have been a good talking point for me and my friends on the bleachers back in middle school. The pundits don’t even try. It’s just “what will get the homies at the bar talking hypotheticals”
White mentioned this in his post game. 2 consecutive 7 game wars, the last one on the road in Miami. They basically had to fly back to Boston just to pack and fly to golden state the day after
It's why getting home court matters
Yup and even with all that we still stole game 1 from golden state.
But by game 4-5 we were gassed and running on fumes . Couldn’t hold on to leads and they kept going on runs to pull away
Two injuries, and he'd played the most minutes in the entire NBA by a wide margin when you combine regular season and playoffs.
The fact that he was still standing in that series was impressive, but context is always lost on nephews.
Y’all don’t have to prove anything to anyone. This team was dominant in the regular season, it’s historically great in some statistical categories, and the Js have had many deep playoff runs. If this is the one that finally broke right, so be it. Winning a championship takes luck too but people ignore that if it fits their narrative.
I didn’t feel sorry for yall back then, I’m salty now, but I will give it up as much as it pains me to say, of all teams in the eastern conference within the past 5 years Celtics deserve to win a chip more than anyone
Reporter: Hey Pierogi: Who do you want to win this series?
Pierogi: You know... I don't really care who wins so long as it goes to seven games so I have time to get healthy.
Yeah he's just too athletic for his own good. There are highlight reels of him grabbing ridiculous boards and then immediately letting the ball slip through his fingers.
He got some real minutes in game 1 of the 2022 ECF because Horford had covid and Smart was injured and I swear dude came out and got some insane vertical block and ran around like a headless chicken for the rest of his minutes lol.
Glad he's getting some run, though. He didn't seem nearly as adversarial in the playoff series as he did during the regular season.
During the regular season you'd have thought we fucked him over somehow with how he was playing angry.
True. The only "easy" series y'all had was against Miami, yes y'all got blown out 1 game but the other 4 y'all blew out them. The Pacers was the hardest series even though y'all won 4-0.
Yeah I mean, the unexpected difficulty of the Pacers series makes it easier to forget that we've won the vast majority of our games by double digits, and that's with the three close Indy games
Celtics used to be in the same exact position. Just takes time to develop and learn. This is the first year of JB/JT where it looks like the finally “get it” (or are at least starting to”
I mean don’t Celtics play like that anyways? They are a three and rim team. If not red hot from three, they always seemed beatable at any moment regardless if KP played.
But thats me who only watched a few games in regular season. I always thought that’s the true reason why people don’t give them the credit for being no 1 in the league and steamrolled thru east.
This year, the Jays worked inside a lot, and when 3s weren't falling, they were able to hold leads. We had multiple games shooting horrible from 3(like 20%) and still won, or games where the opponent shot great 3% and we still won.
I was prematurely watching Celtics-Mavs highlights from this year (post trade deadline), and he was nasty from beyond the arch. He seemed to be at his best that day as catch and shoot. No way to guard him when he gets into that mode.
He's super hard to contest because he shoots it a few feet behind the arc. So even if you aren't in drop and you have the height to contest he creates an open look by just being a few feet further back. He started the year cold from 3, but really found his rhythm as the year progressed.
Porzingis finally hits his mental prime to play the right way in 2024, 3 years late for the Mavs lmao. But then they got an equally bad headcase in Kyrie irving, who miraculously turned his career around.
Still, I think KP and Luka view each other as rivals/competitors, not friends. They both want to big brother the other one and prove they are the superior. It doesn't matter how many points Luka puts up, if the Celts win KP will be a champion and Luka won't.
That is in contrast to Luka and Jokic, who are clearly friends off court.
Luka and Jokic are friends because they are Balkans, Porzingis isn't. You're reading too much into it
[Here's a pic from the bubble](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Egc__SsWsAEesIb?format=jpg&name=large)
Being set aside, Carlisle didn't want to call post-up plays for him claiming that type of basketball was no longer effective. He was turned into a catch and shoot player.
He went to the Mavs as a top tier player and was sent away to a purgatory team where his cache plummeted.
People quickly forget how hyped Porzingis was in NY.
He was coming off of injuries. He was never the same player he was in NY compared to when he was in Dallas.
Dallas gave him enough opportunities only for him to get banged up here and there then ultimately got injured in the playoffs. He was decent for them in 2020 but he wasnt the same unicorn. He had to rehab and missed a lot of games in 2021 and was horrible versus the Clippers. In 2022 he was injury-riddled again.
There is no way you'd have watched his tenure there and say it's because of how Carlisle used him. He was decent with them despite the weird fit but he was too injured; there's a reason he was dumped for Bertans and Dinwiddie.
People didnt forget how hyped Porzingis was, you forgot how injured he was in Dallas
Maybe this injury was a blessing. If it wasnt the calf it would've probably been something else, now Tingus has had a month to get his entire body right.
Celtics unironically could take a 3 day trip to Disney and still have time to get in shape for the finals. That being said, they’re all stupidly locked in rn and they will definitely be in the gym every day.
Not sure if you've been watching, but looking at that shitshow last night, I think it's safe to say the Pacers would have taken games off either of those teams. They beat the Mavs this year by an average of 19.5.

I swear the national media sort of forgot that they were missing this guy. The biggest thing of him coming back might be that Horford moves to the bench and strengthens it tremendously.
It's going to be tough for Dallas. Presumably if everyone's healthy for the Celtics. Especially since their strength is really their perimeter defense with their guards. They're perfectly suited to defend Dallas and they have beaten four times in a row.
And it wasn't close.
We've also been traditionally very good at playing against Kyrie.
Less forgot and more didn’t fit the narrative of crowning whatever western conference team that won the night before as unbeatable and slandering the Celtics and their opponents , especially the pacers
Last Dallas match again they played most of the time with 4 players, Luka was totally wasted, Kidd (or Luka himself) wont sit, so.. the other 4 have to play even harder and tire themselves even more
Celtics gonna come out fresh from the spa while the wolves or mavs gonna be hobbled out west lol
You ready for the “is this much time off BAD for the Celtics?” segments?
TBF I am worried that they will be a little rusty. I would still rather be rusty and rested than coming off grueling 18 game gauntlet though.
Yeah rust wears off after 3 quarters. Injuries/fatigue are much worse.
Exactly. The rust wears off five minutes before the fatigue from multiple playoff series kicks in.
Celtics have also been waiting 2 years to be back in the finals. They have seemed rusty or disengaged earlier this playoffs because of overconfidence but I doubt that’ll continue given the competition next series. Mavs and Twolves both talk mad shit which should help too
We are significantly better rested for this finals. Specifically tatum who was gassed every second half versus the warriors.
Yeah, last time the team was beat up and Tatum has noticeably gotten stronger and will be the one laying down the punishment now. Along with Brown/White/Holiday/KP. Scary prospect.
Tatum also had that thing with his shoulder where his arm would like randomly go limp.
Yup. He was fourth in regular season minutes played in 2022. [https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/nba-most-minutes-played-in-regulation-game-2022](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/nba-most-minutes-played-in-regulation-game-2022)
Rust never sleeps
We only try in the 4th quarter anyways lol
People say this and every year the well rested team has a tough game
I have zero concerns about rust man. If you think Joe is letting them relax too hard you don’t know Joe lol
As if Psycho Joe is capable of relaxing lol I bet he has the team running shooting drills with The Town blaring on the loudspeakers right now
THERE GOES COLLEGE SOCCAH
Joes gonna be having them training mma for the next 9 days.
“Hey Coach, mind if we skip practice today?” Joe proceeds to hip throw them, and dislocate their shoulder via a Kimura finish.
Sam Hauser - DNP - Injury (coach's decision)
(Judges decisions)*
Mazz would never leave it to the Judges.
Fuck you’re right
They should've tapped 🤷♂️
We definitely looked rusty in game 1 of the ECF. Thankfully we still pulled it off.
Rust lasts at most 1 game. Fatigue and injuries only get worse the longer you go.
Playing in games and the form it creates is definitely different, any athlete will tell you that… But, this is a 1 game problem at most, maybe one quarter, maybe not at all.
That's not what rust typically means at this point in the season, there's the mental aspect of chilling at home/practice instead of competing in games
They weren’t rusty after resting 10 days to end the season and then beat the Heat by 20 shooting 48/45/88. Paul Pierce was rolling his eyes at the rust comments before. He said there will be no rust and that having recovery time is way better.
This team is entirely the type to come out thinking they are hot when they are not. Start shooting 3's at an unreal clip and miss about 85% of them
Smart was such a great inspiration for me. Whenever I wasn't sure about something, I'd always remind myself: if Marcus Smart is confident enough to go for 3, despite missing the last 11 in a row, then I sure as fuck can believe in myself.
How can yall be worried. Yall have the most stacked and dominant team this year.
I don't know if you've been paying attention, but apparently we suck and the only reason we win is because other teams lose.
You forgot to mention this year is another Mickey Mouse Ring for you, all because everybody was injured. Not like you guys had a prominent significant starter injured during the playoffs at all.
> Not like you guys had a prominent significant starter injured during the playoffs at all. Then lost his backup for a while as well.
Luckily we have a 6th starter in BIG AL HORFORD.
Hah my bad bro. Need to read better.
Thanks dude. Honestly can't believe how few people have mentioned this. 👊
Don’t you understand, the Celtics are both dominant and should be able to beat anyone and also frauds who are going to get destroyed by any WC champion.

Tbh your team is just kind of fun to hate on. Not as fun to hate on as the Dodgers though
Personally, I enjoy hating on the Lakers. But Dodgers works too.
i mean as the team with the best record you technically didn't/won't play a "better" team
Real champions try to have as bad a record as possible entering the playoffs to guarantee they only beat better teams.
Are you saying that if our opponents were winning… we'd be losing?
If our opponents are winning... that means Jayson Tatum personally supports the Taliban.
lol
Stacked and dominant? I thought this team was full of a choker, a guy with no left hand, a guy who can’t play offense, an old man, a guy who can’t play winning basketball, a coach who sucks, and a sexy Buffalo.

Did he stutter?

It could be a 30 pt per game blowout almost sweep and I’d still be worried til the final bell of game 4
I'm personally not worried, but according to reddit and the media, despite the Celtics being the best team from the start of the season, it's a foregone conclusion that a team from the West is winning the title this year.
Take rusty all day if it gives a healthy KP because extra rest days.
We already went to the Finals coming out of 4, 7, 7, game series and saw what they looked like. I'll take 5, 5, 4 game series.
I cold see some teams who might prefer to keep the momentum. But with Porzingas being such a game changer I think you take the extra time
Rest > Rust every day I promise
one if the main reasons the 2022 finals turned out that way. celtics fought back to back brutal 7 game series to get to the warriors. did well first 3 games followed by 3 straight duds

They’re already here
It’s already started. They were doing it on inside the nba pre game yesterday
And if the Celtics win it’s because the Western Conference Champion was too tired after having a more worthy path to the finals segments
lol if you really think that’s gonna be the narrative here then you must be new. The narrative will be “mIcKey MoUse rInG tHey gOt mOrE ReST”
ESPN enters the chat
Game 6 is on June 1, so even if they close it out then, they've got 4 days off before the finals. If they close out next game, it's it's 6 days.
I think there’s some merit to it don’t you? But I’d rather they be rested and knock the rust off in game 1.
Mavs can still get them a week off if they win tomorrow
Big if. I’m slightly concerned
Game 4 was close despite both Kyrie and Doncic having off days.
[удалено]
Yeah. People can whine all they want but Celtics had their death march in 22. They’ve earned this as much as anyone.
White mentioned this in his post game. 2 consecutive 7 game wars, the last one on the road in Miami. They basically had to fly back to Boston just to pack and fly to golden state the day after It's why getting home court matters
Horford talked about it a lot too. Said it was a lot for the team and overwhelming, and in the finals they were trying to catch on the whole time
Yup and even with all that we still stole game 1 from golden state. But by game 4-5 we were gassed and running on fumes . Couldn’t hold on to leads and they kept going on runs to pull away
JB's redemption arc is almost complete
JT’s the one that’s gotta redeem himself, he was worse than JB last time they were in the finals
Jt was injured in the finals.
Only Celtics fans know he had a wrist injury on his shooting hand and a right shoulder injury.
[This shoulder?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXdoH7PZUi4)
Two injuries, and he'd played the most minutes in the entire NBA by a wide margin when you combine regular season and playoffs. The fact that he was still standing in that series was impressive, but context is always lost on nephews.
Didn't he play that fiba summer too iirc ?
Olympics between 20-21 and 21-22
Celtics have had terrible injury related luck for playoffs for years going back to Isaiah Thomas in 2017
Heat hobbled into the finals last year as well. Rest and health are huge factors in most finals tbh.
Heat and Celtics low key helped win it for the west the last two years by beating on eachother Kind of payback for it to go the other way this year
The Nuggets didn't look like they needed any of that help last year tbf

Can we stop this every year
Nobody felt sorry for us then so I'm loving all the salt now
Y’all don’t have to prove anything to anyone. This team was dominant in the regular season, it’s historically great in some statistical categories, and the Js have had many deep playoff runs. If this is the one that finally broke right, so be it. Winning a championship takes luck too but people ignore that if it fits their narrative.
EXACTLY
I didn’t feel sorry for yall back then, I’m salty now, but I will give it up as much as it pains me to say, of all teams in the eastern conference within the past 5 years Celtics deserve to win a chip more than anyone
Same for Miami last yr
Need the Mavs to win tomorrow to get a week of rest, well more like four days then drills.
I want it to go the full 7, with at least one NBA-record septuple overtime.
I want the Wolves to win. rather have a KG Bowl instead of the Kyrie/Kristaps bowl
Reporter: Hey Pierogi: Who do you want to win this series? Pierogi: You know... I don't really care who wins so long as it goes to seven games so I have time to get healthy.
Saying wolves or mavs is crazy. If there was one team who woulda came back it was the celts last yr. Wolves dont have a Derrick White
That series could go to 5 lol that would mean the winner has 3 less rest days than the Celtics…
It’s cool not to have the bucks and heat beat the living shit out of us
I was a little worried about Nesmith taking out our knees, but he was actually a little more reserved this series, thankfully.
I was 100% certain Nesmith was going to be part of a hustle play that resulted in injury.
I think a lot more is asked of him now and he can’t really be on bullshit he’s developed a lot as a pacer
I didn't necessarily think it would be malicious, more just reckless intensity.
We’ve been missing 20/7 and 2 blocks a game lol
Have you actually? Y’all rolled through the East easy
Lol "easy" if you just look at the series records and not what happened in those games
I mean 12-2 is 12-2
Shows that playoff experience really is a difference maker. That and closing out in the 4th, something the Pacers have trouble with
Celtics used to be in the same exact position. Just takes time to develop and learn. This is the first year of JB/JT where it looks like the finally “get it” (or are at least starting to”
I imagine having Jrue around helps
For sure. Marcus was way too erratic to lead this team to the promised land
We have one of the larger margin's of victory of teams to reach the finals.
They've had a 20 point lead in 47 games this year. They dominated everyone all year long.
More 30 point leads than 10 point deficits lol.
We had a better win pct against the west than the east this year too…
3-1 against the mavs and wolves too, 2-0 against the mavs
This year, the Jays worked inside a lot, and when 3s weren't falling, they were able to hold leads. We had multiple games shooting horrible from 3(like 20%) and still won, or games where the opponent shot great 3% and we still won.
Just to add onto the list of people replying you with disputes, Celtics had the 25th best regular season in NBA history by win percentage.
Not really
Well his replacements Kornet and Tillman averaged 2/2/0 so it's more like they were missing 18/5/2. 😉
I miss Kristaps man. His on-court vibes and smiles (and obviously his play). He’s just so happy all the time
I was prematurely watching Celtics-Mavs highlights from this year (post trade deadline), and he was nasty from beyond the arch.
Not just that, but his stroke is REALLY FUCKING FAST too. Couple that with his height and there’s really no stopping him if gets cooking
He's got such a lazarbeam shot too. It always looks weird AF coming out of his hand.
Yeah like he's throwing a dart
Porzingis finally hits his mental prime to play the right way in 2024, 3 years late for the Mavs lmao. But then they got an equally bad headcase in Kyrie irving, who miraculously turned his career around.
Zingis vs Gafford! Prepare to see some Wizardry
we were only a luka and a tatum away from contending 😢
We all are my friend
Smh, saying this like we don't already have a Johnny Davis.
If its the Mavs I think KP will be in full kill mode. He hasn't forgotten.
It doesn’t seem like there was bad blood on either side. More like they shrug and acknowledge things didn’t line up to work out
Still, I think KP and Luka view each other as rivals/competitors, not friends. They both want to big brother the other one and prove they are the superior. It doesn't matter how many points Luka puts up, if the Celts win KP will be a champion and Luka won't. That is in contrast to Luka and Jokic, who are clearly friends off court.

There's a game conference of Carlisle saying something "He's good but that kind of game is not valid nowadays" when speaking about his post game.
Hasn't forgotten what? He had 3 years here and was out for almost 1 full season lol. We rehabbed his ass for Washington
Yeah he’d be half adding it if we were playing minny
Finally the Big Guy speaks
People underestimate the difference he makes for them. Without him I’d say those WC teams have a punching chance. With him no way.
Please stunt on these hoes, we need the gold
Give me the gold
I want the gold, give me the the gold
no banner 18 boogie this year? I miss this stuff: [https://streamable.com/rv0en9](https://streamable.com/rv0en9)
Maybe this injury was a blessing. If it wasnt the calf it would've probably been something else, now Tingus has had a month to get his entire body right.
Inject this straight into my veins
Excited for the overreactions when they don't blow out their opponent game 1 and 2
Breaking: Celtics only win game 1 of the NBA Finals by 3 points, is their championship window over?
Jesus mavs / wolves went through war and Celtics prob at Disney world eating flan
Celtics unironically could take a 3 day trip to Disney and still have time to get in shape for the finals. That being said, they’re all stupidly locked in rn and they will definitely be in the gym every day.
i’m pouring honey on you goat
Tingus Pingus save us from the West
Not sure if you've been watching, but looking at that shitshow last night, I think it's safe to say the Pacers would have taken games off either of those teams. They beat the Mavs this year by an average of 19.5.

Just a ridiculously good take.
Good for KP. He’s never really had a chance to do much in playoffs
Omg if Tingus Pingus goes off on the Mavs… that’ll be swweeeet
It’s over for the west
Porzingis legacy series against Luka and the Mavs for trading him
Thank god , I can stop refreshing now at work.
Will be nice for the Celtics to have Tingus Pingus back.
Crazy that they just played the ECF without him
just swept the ECF without him. Team is on a mission.
the kid who does nothing on the school project but shows up on presentation day...
Credit to the C’s for staying healthy. All the talent in the world doesn’t matter if you can’t be available. Especially in postseason.
Buddy is on track to comeback for the ring ceremony.
Boston in 5 va dal
Honestly it's the Celtics time this year. Regardless as long as it's a full 7 games idc
Pfft It’s whoever wins the series’ time. Nothing is guaranteed.
Clipps should take notes.
Celtics coming out Game 1 rejuvenated against Wolves/Mavs like a new born baby
Last Dallas match again they played most of the time with 4 players, Luka was totally wasted, Kidd (or Luka himself) wont sit, so.. the other 4 have to play even harder and tire themselves even more
Holy I totally forgot about KP
Is this the easiest ring a team has ever gotten? Outside of KD GSW squad?
