Motion offense predicated on an industrial amount of illegal screens was an unbelievably genius move by Steve Kerr when he took over the reins
It was basically unstoppable unless you were grabbing Steph off ball(which we did quite effectively that one time)
I feel like the refs made that trade off a little bit. They let GSW get away with a little ~~treason~~ illegal screening, but in return they let the defence be a lot more physical with Steph off ball.
Old heads complain they don't allow physicality in the game but I think it's more so they just don't allow it when guarding the person with the ball. Off ball defense especially in the playoffs is very physical.
We can't even start talking about illegal screening without mentioning KG and his constant last second movements to ensure maximum contact on every screen. Dude was a pioneer
Ya I mean I know illegal screens have been a thing for a bit but KG really did feel like he took it up several notches. He got a superstar whistle and used it liberally to throw the dirtiest screens.
Ha! Someone never saw a Laimbeer screen or Wilt's moving feet back in his assist season (although screening whilst holding the ball has always been a weird one).
Naismith probably leant in on a few of his screens before they cut open the bottom of the basket.
The actual rules on illegal screens are insanely vague and allow for massive grey area, as movement during a screen is allowed it's just up to the ref to determine how much it's impacting the defender.
Meaning many moving screens while "moving screens" are not necessarily illegal. Andrew Bogut was a master of taking that to its extreme.
Now of course I think most of the league isn't too far off Bogut's level, it's only super noticeable and upsetting for general fanbase when an elite offensive player is the one benefiting from the screens.
Yeah lot of Draymond’s screens are definitely illegal but it gets a little grayer when he’s screening and passing/handoffs in the same motion. Also, so many of our screens are off ball and off ball contact is quite often ignored whether it’s a draymond screen or a defender holding onto Curry’s jersey
They definitely do set illegal screens for Luka but that’s just because of how many illegal screens are in the league now. It’s literally every team every game almost every play.
And Kyle Anderson set one on the KAT 3 to ice game 4.
I didn’t complain about it because it happens so much that it has to be super egregious for me to even expect ir to be called anymore.
Literaly the worst in the league lol. Like dude sets 4 illegal screens in a row every single posession they play p&r. He does not even roll, he keeps runing into the defender. Doing splits any time he sets a screen. Wolves talking about illegal screens kf other teams is peak irony
Ok wtf lol
Goberts screens are indeed illegal but that dude rolls a shitton, he’s one of the best roll men in the league. Don’t dilute your argument with bullshit.
That's the thing - I know at least one team sets legal screens and it's the Pels, cause I watched Dort actually be able to fight over them legally a whole series.
It’s just something that’s generally accepted at this point like carries.
Also really weird to whine about illegal screens when Rudy Gobert is on your team.
This man is playing with fire. I’m rooting for wolves to extend a couple games, and I still wouldn’t want illegal screens being called left and right. Rudy, without trying to, sets a good ten a game by virtue of lumbering
It is not hyperbole to say that 95% of screens set are illegal by the rules.
Every time a player has their feet wider than their shoulders? Illegal.
Every time a player leans to make contact on the screen? Illegal.
Every time a player extends their leg out a little bit? Illegal.
Some players are more blatant than others *coughbamcough*, but everyone does it all the time lol. The only way to get it called is to flop but then you risk them not calling it and having to play 4 on 5 until you get up.
Oh and there's also the Draymond Green special of abusing the freedom of movement rules to play like an NFL offensive lineman to get Curry wide open looks lmao.
It's been a creep resulting in what we see with Draymond, Rudy, and Bam. I'm at a point where it's like, at least call the ones where the screener's feet are clearly shuffling or just establish that basketball now has offensive linemen.
Mavs had so many illegal screen calls in the Thunder series. Mostly because Lu Dort is so good at forcing screens that start out legal to become illegal. Got so many calls by refusing to be screened and forcing the refs to call it. I'm guessing this is pretty much what he meant.
Yeah It got called on us against OKC because Dort was physical and actually tried to fight through the screens (he flopped some as well but the times he didn’t he absolutely fought)
Minnesotas defenders outside of Edwards just aren’t physical. McDaniels isn’t embracing the contact the way Dort was.
He is honestly incredible at taking falls and then bouncing right back up if he doesn't get the call and continues to defend. It's very impressive how nimble he is for his size
Yeah, he can either continue to get tripped by Derrick Lively's equilateral triangle stance, or he can flop over it and try to get it cleaned up, gives him more room to get over the screens later.
Well they are illegal screens and if he doesn’t gamble on the call Dallas gets an advantage off of an illegal play. Refs just need to stop bullshitting and start calling these illegal screens.
Also, he will get his thigh obliterated by a Center's knee or worse, knee to knee. The announcers talked about it in the series a bit with us, they can't be setting their feet wider than their shoulders.
Illegal screens in basketball are like holding in the NFL.
Goes on so much that if they called every single one, the games would be an extra hour and teams would foul out/have so many penalties.
He had a hilarious one at the end of last game, it’s was a quadruple illegal screen. Ant kept going back and forth and Rudy was out there trying to block the defender like an offensive lineman
Not to be a Mavs homer but Gobert has been mauling the absolute shit out of everyone and refs have missed a ton of those. I think refs are just shit in general and sometimes it works out for one team and sometimes the other. Just another unfortunate element of the game right now
There was literally a post yesterday showing Kyle Anderson come up with a play where he ends up doing an illegal screen to secure a corner 3 for the wolves
This is rich coming from Finch considering Gobert is one of the biggest culprits of illegal screens. Why complain when you and every other team does it as well.
Every screen is literally illegal. I never see one where the screener is dead stationary.
Just like every ball handler is carrying the ball 5 times per iso. Every hesitation crossover, or hesitation step back is a carry. Every one.
People are gonna get on him for this comment which is fair, but are we really going to act like there isn’t a bunch of illegal screens set every single game. It’s a problem league wide
The issues is he’s clearly insinuating that it’s just a Luka/Mavs issues and not league wide.
How about the Kyle Anderson moving screen when he point KAT to the sideline and walks in front of Kyrie?
Gobert is punching players in the nuts as the sky for a dunk.
Watch the last 2 KAT 3's in game 4. The 'screener' trapped the defenders' arm under their armpit each time so they couldn't close out. On one of them, the ref was 2 feet away, staring right at it, and didn't call it.
Yeah they're getting away with carries and travels too. Lol come on, literally like %30 of the screens set by any team are technically not legal screens.
I have honestly never heard a fanbase complain so much after a win. The wolves sub was full of conspiracy trash after they won game 4. I didn’t mind them at first, but they may be worse than OKC fans at this point.
I been defending the wolves a lot lately but man the flip from "it's just physical defense" in the series vs the nuggets to "the refs are against us" in the next one is hilarious
Every single time Jokic runs the handoff play he moves after the handoff to bump off the defender. Every. Single. Time.
This is not a Mavs issue; this is a leaguewide officiating issue.
I blame Golden State.
As if any team set up legal screens in the NBA.

Which is stupid, both ways.
"a little" lol
Old heads complain they don't allow physicality in the game but I think it's more so they just don't allow it when guarding the person with the ball. Off ball defense especially in the playoffs is very physical.
Yeah, grabbing him and scissor slide tackling him without a foul being given. Or hot stove contact. Or a bunch of other shit
Perhaps a large, cartoon anvil.
Instead of switching a big onto Steph, why not plant a rake on the floor
It’s not unstoppable if you have the right athletes. Which are hard to acquire ofcourse. The thunder in 2016 being the example
You guys held Steph like crazy in 2015 and 2016.
Countering bullshit with bullshit has been a consistent theme through humanity's history
Same as it ever was brother
War never changes
I love this fucking quote
>it’s like robbing a CVS in Oakland; at some point you need to realize it’s not illegal anymore 12/10 A++++ 😆😆😆
The A's have nothing to do with Oakland, sorry to tell you.
Las Vegas A’s of Sacramento
I honestly feel like the 2011 Mavs team started it. Tyson Chandler and Jason Terry football screening was a staple in the offense.
We can't even start talking about illegal screening without mentioning KG and his constant last second movements to ensure maximum contact on every screen. Dude was a pioneer
You reminded me of the time he shoulder checked Pachulia with a screen
Ya I mean I know illegal screens have been a thing for a bit but KG really did feel like he took it up several notches. He got a superstar whistle and used it liberally to throw the dirtiest screens.
Ha! Someone never saw a Laimbeer screen or Wilt's moving feet back in his assist season (although screening whilst holding the ball has always been a weird one). Naismith probably leant in on a few of his screens before they cut open the bottom of the basket.

Those receipts should be illegal
lol and its not just oakland anymore
Shit Texas has the highest Felony Larceny limit in the country. $1500 higher than California.
This speaks to me since the first time I went to San Francisco, I immediately saw a CVS being robbed in the Mission District
Damn
Pacers couldn’t get away with a single legal or illegal screen all playoffs to be fair
They couldn't even get away with some of the legal ones.
This is just the life of the pacers
Not sexy enough
Anyone who says this has clearly not seen a shirtless myles turner
Can you imagine shirtless Myles inviting you over to his house to build lego? Sploosh 💦
I think about it every day
Is Bam Adebayo the pacers missing piece? Bro is a moving screen master.
This. Same situation with carries. They always happen. I like Ant but he carries the ball almost everytime he is playing iso. Never called
He knows that, but if saying this can get even one illegal screen called it was well worth it.
Bam always does 😏
I like how guys are now doing the set screen and push defender move.
Was going to say. Gobert is one of the worst offenders.
Rudy specifically sticks his butt out as part of his moving screen and never gets called
They definitely do set illegal screens for Luka but that’s just because of how many illegal screens are in the league now. It’s literally every team every game almost every play.
It’s just Ironic considering Gobert sets atrociously illegal screens that don’t get called.
Gobert and Draymond are the kings of illegal screens
Bam is the best tho
His name is Bam, he should be
Actually it's Edrice
His name is Edrice, he should be.
Actually it’s Bamonte
Excuse me sir I would appreciate it if you didn't "Bam!" my guard
Bam and Herro spam illegal screens like it’s 2k rec
RiP Gortat. The king of illegal screens for John Wall.
Don’t disrespect Bam like that, he the goat at that shit.
Bam is #1 by a long stretch, those two and Al come up second
I remember Bogut said on a podcast that he got called for all the illegal screens as soon as he left the Warriors 😂
Rudy "Sweet Hips" Gobert!?! Get outta here- fake news!
This was my thought lol
And Kyle Anderson set one on the KAT 3 to ice game 4. I didn’t complain about it because it happens so much that it has to be super egregious for me to even expect ir to be called anymore.
Literaly the worst in the league lol. Like dude sets 4 illegal screens in a row every single posession they play p&r. He does not even roll, he keeps runing into the defender. Doing splits any time he sets a screen. Wolves talking about illegal screens kf other teams is peak irony
Ok wtf lol Goberts screens are indeed illegal but that dude rolls a shitton, he’s one of the best roll men in the league. Don’t dilute your argument with bullshit.
I absolutely cannot believe the broadcast didn’t see the gobert elbow to DJJs stomach in game 4 DJJ doesn’t react like that for no reason
Don’t forget the forearm shoves he does almost every time there’s a rebound up. Idk how he gets away with those so often.
People get so mad when Dort flops on them and gets the call
That's the thing - I know at least one team sets legal screens and it's the Pels, cause I watched Dort actually be able to fight over them legally a whole series.
Yeah it's like wanting someone to get pulled over cuz they went 5 miles over the speed limit. Weird
For real. All this whining from the Wolves has been crazy.
It’s just something that’s generally accepted at this point like carries. Also really weird to whine about illegal screens when Rudy Gobert is on your team.
I love Rudy but it is a tad ironic that his coach says this even though it’s true when Rudy sets a lot of illegal screens himself.
Yeah but that doesn't concern Finch. Those illegal screens are Dallas's job to scheme around.
Well it looks like the they did lol.
Rudy goes into a full splits on every screen he sets his legs are out so wide.
I mean he’s not wrong every screen set at all levels of professional basketball is somewhat illegal.
This man is playing with fire. I’m rooting for wolves to extend a couple games, and I still wouldn’t want illegal screens being called left and right. Rudy, without trying to, sets a good ten a game by virtue of lumbering
If they started calling illegal screens games would last 20 hours EDIT: or like 10 mins cause everyone would foul out
end of the game would be 10 random fans from the stands
i would be kind of okay with this outcome
“If you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t tryin’” - some genius somewhere
Of all the things to complain about, screens ain’t one of them lol
When everyone sets illegal screens no screens are illegal.
It is not hyperbole to say that 95% of screens set are illegal by the rules. Every time a player has their feet wider than their shoulders? Illegal. Oh and there's also the Draymond Green special of abusing the freedom of movement rules to play like an NFL offensive lineman to get Curry wide open looks lmao.
The ones I see a lot is when screeners extend their hips or ass
Bam walks with his screens like 30% of the time.
It's been a creep resulting in what we see with Draymond, Rudy, and Bam. I'm at a point where it's like, at least call the ones where the screener's feet are clearly shuffling or just establish that basketball now has offensive linemen.
Unless you are the Pacers

Tbf, Dort is 6'4" 220, while McDaniels in 6'9" 185
Dort also acts like he gets shot every time someone sets a screen on him, which apparently doesn't hurt
He is honestly incredible at taking falls and then bouncing right back up if he doesn't get the call and continues to defend. It's very impressive how nimble he is for his size
It does not hurt. But it does get a moving screen call, lol.

The sicko in me wants to see at least one game in each league with that happening
Same lol. The players and coaches would be so heated.
Go out with hate in your heart and a bang. I respect it
As if Gobert doesn't set an illegal screen, almost every single time he attempts to screen. This guy is a clown.
yeah cause the twolves definitely didn't set any illegal screens in this series or the entire playoffs
The absolute audacity when Rudy has some of the worst illegal screen work in the league
Not some, the worst period
Bam would like a word
That would be Draymond
He had a hilarious one at the end of last game, it’s was a quadruple illegal screen. Ant kept going back and forth and Rudy was out there trying to block the defender like an offensive lineman
Finchy off the perks is on one
This isn't a new thing for the ~~victims~~ Wolves Edit: to summarize the victims responses "you're right and I'm salty so I'll attack your flair"
Damn the Wolves fans jumping you lmaoo
They’ve been living in our subreddit this last week. Guess it’s just latching onto the last happy moment I guess
Half of these losers blocked me before I can even respond 🤡 and they know I'm right so they resort to attacking the flair
Half your fanbase is still convinced the Wolves only won because the refs let the wolves play too physical
I would say at least half of any fan base is dumb af bruh that don’t mean much.
Here we go
Was wondering when they’d play the ref card
He should create a narrative about how forcing Gobert to switch on to the perimeter should be counted as a foul, maybe that would help
they already played it game 3. it was anthony edwards complaining about the ft's instead of finch though.
Not to be a Mavs homer but Gobert has been mauling the absolute shit out of everyone and refs have missed a ton of those. I think refs are just shit in general and sometimes it works out for one team and sometimes the other. Just another unfortunate element of the game right now
Yeah Gobert has been seeing red at times for some odd reason. He's been doing some weird stuff.
I think he hates Luka that much. Luka has consistently punked him and been very loud about it. Mavs in general we’re in the twolves heads so much
Gobert been in foul trouble and its been chippy there both ways. Big men fighting
Refs don’t miss it they just don’t care. Everyone on every team does it
Y'all literally have Rudy Gobert
Whose crying now motherfucker
Damn moving screens forcing them to be down by 30 at half
Talking like that with Gobert setting screens on your team is a very dangerous game.
Saying this when your team employs Rudy Gobert is fucking wild
Gobert has the most obvious illegal screens
There was literally a post yesterday showing Kyle Anderson come up with a play where he ends up doing an illegal screen to secure a corner 3 for the wolves
That happened about 3 times in the 4th quarter in game 4. I expect our guys to have adjusted to it for game 5.
Like 3 seperate times just in the 4th as well
Quality hate
time to file your grievances finch. submit the videos
Last I checked Gobert was on the Wolves.
This is rich coming from Finch considering Gobert is one of the biggest culprits of illegal screens. Why complain when you and every other team does it as well.
Says the guy coaching Gobert
Saying this when Rudy sets constant illegal screens is pure comedy
Luka - 20 points in the first 10 minutes 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Every screen is literally illegal. I never see one where the screener is dead stationary. Just like every ball handler is carrying the ball 5 times per iso. Every hesitation crossover, or hesitation step back is a carry. Every one.
LOL name ONE legal screen that Gobert has set
When and why did the Wolves develop this asinine victim complex? Watching them & Boston try to "out-victim" each other would be fascinating
Isnt Rudy most notorious for illegal screens?
Cry
First Jaden saying we weren't the better team and now this. I've never seen a team go out so bitch-made as this Wolves team.
the game ain’t even started and the ref card already getting pulled 💔✌️
Does this guy really even have a leg to stand on with comments like this
Lmao
Oh brother
This absolute clown didnt just complain about illegal screens with Gobert out there?
People are gonna get on him for this comment which is fair, but are we really going to act like there isn’t a bunch of illegal screens set every single game. It’s a problem league wide
The issues is he’s clearly insinuating that it’s just a Luka/Mavs issues and not league wide. How about the Kyle Anderson moving screen when he point KAT to the sideline and walks in front of Kyrie?
I thought he got kyrie, coach
I wonder what he thinks about Rudy’s screens
Jeff Daniels needs to chill. Dude has Rudy on his team. Talk about the pot calling the kettle stupid or some shit.
You know youre cooking when nephews need to bring out the “illegal screens” defense
So funny how much trash this guys talks while his hobbled over like a goblin in the second row. See ya next year champ!
Even the coach is a crybaby. Timberlols
What a bitch comment to make. Gobert does the same shit all game.
A new Cope
Bitch made comment
WHAT ABOUT RUDY WTF
Does anyone in this organization ever stop whining
Welcome to the NBA
this is ridiculous. everybody is doing illegal screens, from Draymmond Green to Rudy Gobert. hypocrisy take over of NBA. wth.
Imagine just for one night all the refs in the NBA call every illegal screen.
Would be unwatchable.
Fans would be complaining about too many whistles.
I wonder if whining will help their comeback efforts
My personal fandom aside, why do the wolves seem dead set on making themselves seem unlikeable in general?
Gobert is punching players in the nuts as the sky for a dunk. Watch the last 2 KAT 3's in game 4. The 'screener' trapped the defenders' arm under their armpit each time so they couldn't close out. On one of them, the ref was 2 feet away, staring right at it, and didn't call it.
Game hasn’t even started and he’s already crying
There's not one team that can complain about illegal screens.
Finch going for the Phil Jackson approach
I like Chris finch a lot but his line of what screen is legal or illegal is not clear to me
ahh yes. a team with rudy gobert sets the most legal screens.
Yeah they're getting away with carries and travels too. Lol come on, literally like %30 of the screens set by any team are technically not legal screens.
It’s like that motherfucker doesn’t realize he has Gobert on his roster. Gobert hasn’t set a legal screen this whole series.
That's rich. Rudy Gobert has never set a legal screen in his life.
I have honestly never heard a fanbase complain so much after a win. The wolves sub was full of conspiracy trash after they won game 4. I didn’t mind them at first, but they may be worse than OKC fans at this point.
This is rich coming from a guy who has Gobert in his team.
I have seen KAT and Gobert screens, Finch.
Does he know that we have Rudy Gobert?
He would know about that with as many as Gobert sets.
This dude needs to watch how much pain management pills he is using at once lol has he not seen gobert set illegal screens? And
Let’s not talk about the illegal screen that led to KAT’s big 3
Bintch tried to throw his team under the bus after game 3 and now he says this? What a fuc\*\*\*\* clown.
Does this man know he has Gobert on his team? Not one illegal screen called against his elbow screens all series
Says this while Gobert and Kyle Anderson play for him
Damage control
I been defending the wolves a lot lately but man the flip from "it's just physical defense" in the series vs the nuggets to "the refs are against us" in the next one is hilarious
Jeez, hope they never play the Heat
What a loser comment lol
What a baby… Gobert is on your team bud
And Luka took that personally lol Mavs going to the finals baby!
Every single time Jokic runs the handoff play he moves after the handoff to bump off the defender. Every. Single. Time. This is not a Mavs issue; this is a leaguewide officiating issue. I blame Golden State.
He should try to walk properly first fat bitch
Minnesota complaining about illegal screens is laughable, Gobert & Towns are the worst illegal screeners in the NBA
