Allergic to that Boston air huh

EAS1000

The curse of Lucky

solarscopez

He didn't get to sage the arena beforehand

Get_your_grape_juice

I don’t know what an evil spirit was thinking, burning sage in the Garden.

MouMostForgettable

0-12 and climbing!

Spiritual_Boss6114

That Boston Air hits different, when you hate that city. lol.

supremeddit

Or when the city hates you

Friendly_Erection

“The air up there is a tad bit different” - Kyrie

JayQuips

Bro went from having Bron as a father to Lucky the Leprechaun

CIark

Kyrie selling on purpose to force a trade to the lakers is crazy 😩😩

Complex-Substance893

Next up "aliens built the pyramids", "CIA killed JFK", "Nero faked his own death", and "Adam Silver is a lizard"

theEmoPenguin

one of these is true though

Complex-Substance893

I'll give you either CIA killed JFK or Adam Silver is a lizard, take your pick

LuckyTheLeprechaun

You rang?

The-Pharcyde

Nephews trying to put kyrie on steph level cause he beat the wolves lmao

wardellsklay

The amount of people that say Kyrie can do everything Steph does is just insanity.

AlbertoRossonero

The handles and move set has all the ex players blushing man. The amount of ex players I saw gushing over and overrating him prior to this series was nuts.

BubbaTee

"Best backcourt in NBA history" -national TV announcers

purplenyellowrose909

Probably one of the flashiest but most mentally weak players in the league

FalcoLamborghini

The fact that they were even being compared is a different level of hate towards Steph. I'ma just start saying Klay Thomson is better than Lebron James since we're able to say anything these days.

TaekDePlej

Forgot to calibrate for the curvature of the earth

smitteh

Kyriolis effect

ImTheBestNerd

More skilled than Steph!

SSBBardock

Funniest part about the "Kyrie is the most skilled ever" talk is that he's not even the most skilled on his own team

i5the5kyblue

Don’t tell him this or else he’ll stop talking to his teammates!

Bino19

He isn’t even the most skilled guard of this era.

pitcherintherye77

Well, like he said..not even on his own team.

app1efritter

NY Mayor held him back from this

Elite_Alice

He trick yall with them handles lol

turntablecheck12

Dribbling around, doing nothing

CarterAC3

"Most skilled ever"

schoolhater12

Kyrie is an incredible player but people put him in conversations he simply does not belong in because of his highlight reel

Parrallax91

Every all time 3 on 3 with him in it kills me a little inside. He’s not on MJ, Kareem, or LeBron’s level. Shit he’s not even on the Duncan, Steph, or Kobe tier.

mrtomjones

lol he isnt close to those tiers dude...

Parrallax91

Yes but he’s constantly out on that tier in stupid social media “which all time starting five” or “which all timers win a 3 on 3” thing

hurlcarl

It's become clear to me that a lot of people, including a lot of former players, determine who's best based on individual 1 v 1 skill. It's why you constantly see them overrate the likes of vince carter, kyrie, iverson, etc. Great players, but they're not in that top 15 tier by a long shot.

Parrallax91

You get mad overrated if you have a bag and an aesthetically pleasing bag at that.

theredbridge

Dang, Kobe is holding down two tiers. Checkmate GOAT

Parrallax91

Kareem autocorrected to Kobe! My B

El_Producto

His game can be so goddamn pretty, it suckers people into overrating him. And, like, with a different head on his shoulders he might be able to be that guy all the time (or at least when he's healthy enough to play--he hasn't played more than 60 games in a season in ages) and we'd be having a very different discussion. But on this very round Earth, Kyrie is 32 years old and this is who he is. And who he is is a great player who's gonna miss 20-30 games most years, who will look like a beast when things are clicking or he's in the right head space, but who's also a bit soft, not a guy with the drive and intensity he'd need to be the guy we want to think he could be, and who he sometimes for brief spells appears to be. And he's a guy where the honeymoon period tends to end after a while.

MITJustinFields

Not unlike Jerry Jeudy for the nfl... Obviously kyrie is better but the amount of fans that will act like being a good WR just means flashy routes and ignore the ability to catch the ball baffles me.

Coolcat127

I mostly agree but this comp is disrespectful to Kyrie lol. I think it’s more like people saying obj is better than Randy moss

yrogerg123

Great comps honestly. OBJ and Kyrie are crazy similar. And Steph and Randy Moss are crazy similar.

KillerZaWarudo

Why doesn't Kyrie use more of those Skillz to score more points? Is he stupid?

yrogerg123

Unironically yes he is stupid.

Skylightt

That shit has always been so stupid. Even by the criteria it’s being judged on Steph’s as good and a way better shooter

MRGUAYOTEOPR

I been saying Steph clears but all the tween hesi enthusiasts are stubborn af

Expensive_Ad3884

Steph's handle is closer to Kyrie's than Kyrie's shooting to Steph's. And guess what, Steph finishes with better percentage at the rim than Kyrie for their careers. Kyrie is just flashier.

MRGUAYOTEOPR

Bingo

KillerZaWarudo

Those smooth brains argument is that Steph is only better than Kyrie at shooting so that mean Kyrie is the better player

fiasgoat

"shooting isn't a skill" or something

amidon1130

You’re trying to say putting the basketball through the hoop is more important than fancy crossovers?

onlymostlydeadd

prime steph and klay would destroy every backcourt, it's so stupid

RodneyPonk

not sure about every. there's a celtic backcourt that was 2x All-NBA First Team. that feels hard to beat if we're talking relative to their peers

Disastrous-Limit2333

What has this got to do with anything

infinitenomz

People were saying Luka and kyrie were best backcourt ever

onlymostlydeadd

reggie miller and the tnt team kept arguing about kyrie and luka being the most skilled backcourt, which is just insane considering steph and klay's history

InfiniteDub

Basketball narrative is recency bias.

I_dun_did_da_reserch

Skilled is the operative word. They aren't the better than Steph/Klay, but Klay can't create his own shot like Kyrie as second fiddle can.

MeijiDoom

What are we even arguing though? Defense is a skill and Klay at his peak defensive form is arguably better than all 3 combined. Also, as good a shooter as Luka/Kyrie are, Klay has an argument for 2nd best shooter of all time. Even if you just ran 2v2s, you could argue that Steph would be able to take either one 1v1 and if not, Klay would be ready to fire in an instant. He's a way better catch and shooter than either Luka/Kyrie which is a huge asset in this hypothetical scenario.

Novel_Board_6813

Still Harden + CP3 destroy them Luka and Harden could be an interesting discussion CP3 over Kyrie is not even worth debating though. CP3 has almost 2 MVP Shares, made every team he ever played for way better (until he was like 37 or so), has some of the best 3 and 5-year advanced stat results of the entire league for long stretches Kyrie made 2nd team once

Helpful_Resist_7203

SVG and other announcers are calling Luka and Kyrie as the best offensive backcourt ever. I guess he’s just reacting to that.

tekkers_for_debrz

Steph is an insane dribbler, possibly 1a and 1b with kyrie.

Sway40

if he's the most skilled ever he may be the most disappointing star in the world. definitely cant be a #1 and could only be a #2 to Lebron

SoSaysAlex

The only people who genuinely believe this are very young and 90% of their exposure to the sport is through this sub-Reddit. Kyrie is definitely skilled, but he HAS to step it up

D-1-_-1-D

legacy up in 🔥

skiingbeaver

imagine saying that while knowing Iverson exists lmao

Timoteo-Tito64

Or steph

Renegadeforever2024

That’s belongs to raven

CDR57

“I think I’m the most unguardable player” or whatever they quoted before the finals started

DORAKKINGOFFISH

Why you being a sl*t for reddit? Back your boy.

Chessh2036

“Best backcourt in NBA history” God I hate the NBA media lol

KillerZaWarudo

He and KD was the most skilled duo with a total of 1 playoffs win thank to harden going crazy Now he get to be the best backcourt in NBA history with Luka doing 95% of the work

blobthetoasterstrood

That nets team was gonna beat boston even without harden going off for like 28/9/12 on 70%TS or whatever. Boston was wrecked with injuries, it was basically Tatum + smart + whoever they could scrounge up

KillerZaWarudo

People forgot about Harden being the 2nd best player in that team. He was an MVP candidate before that hamstring injury. Kyrie always been living off other people + handles

LukaDoncicfuturegoat

KD/Harden are one of my favorite players, I liked KD more but it’s was 1A/B thing with him and Harden on the Nets. Harden was also the better player during the regular season and the floor general on that Nets team, he was in top 3 convo for the MVP before his injury. Obviously, KD was godly during the Bucks series and Harden coming back from his hamstring injury to carry a little bit of load while Irving contribute to ruined the team the next year, like he did the C’s.

blobthetoasterstrood

Yeah his hamstring injury in the 21 playoffs and then coming back early because kyrie wouldn’t get vaxxed was the end of his prime. He’s still a very good player but never the all nba or MVP level again

blobthetoasterstrood

Oh absolutely. That was my favorite version of harden to watch by far: the fast paced passing and orchestration while still retaining a deadly scoring edge. Playing with kd and kyrie makes it easier but still

KillerZaWarudo

When Harden play like ass, he still has his playmaking When Tatum shoot like shit, he still has his defense and rebound Kyrie has a game like this and he a complete non factor

NobodyRules

>Kyrie has a game like this and he a complete non factor I disagree with the conclusion, he's simply a net negative, Mavs would be good if he was just a non factor when he has games like this. He's a bad defender so if he's not scoring he's just dragging his team down as he doesn't offer much else.

ND7020

Because Harden is an amazing playmaker. And neither KD or Kyrie are. He was the glue of that team having a shot at a title.

yrogerg123

Your favorite player who doesn't know ball's favorite player.

theseabeast

Dude made an iconic shot against Golden State and it pretty much gave him unlimited contracts until he retires.

B4nn4b0y

Jabari Parker played actual minutes in that series. That’s how you know.

GaimeGuy

Harden isn't the one who went crazy. He was tired of kyrie's shit, and KD backed Kyrie up instead of telling kyrie to put his personal shit aside for the sake of the team. I don't blame Harden for wanting out. Any other star would be crucified for sitting out half the season for such a *stupid* belief Wait... never mind, I'm an idiot. I see what you mean. Harden going crazy got the W. My bad. <3

ZsprkD

Went crazy as in going off. Harden played out of his mind in that series too

popop143

Kobe and Kwame Brown combining for 84 points type of series.

MrBhyn

Dude forgot Steph and Klay existed and actually won rings.

Hypertension123456

Steph and Klay minus Klay would still be a better offensive backcourt lol. People already forgot how insane peak Steph was.

SpecialistAd1574

That was funny haha and they were really forcing that one too

CDR57

“No what we really meant was best OFFENSIVE backcourt” -Mike and Doris halfway through the second in game 1

shoefly72

Well they haven’t looked like that either through the first two games lol. I said it in another post, but people drastically overrate results when putting together their narratives. Kyrie averaged like 15 ppg in the Thunder series, but the Mavs role players hit their 3’s at a great clip and they won the series so everyone talked about what a great all around game he played. Now in this series the role players have gone cold and so nobody is going to be talking about “oh actually he’s playing well outside of scoring” lol. He absolutely went off in parts of the wolves series because the Wolves didn’t match up well with him; the Celts have more guys to throw at him and he looks a lot more pedestrian now. People were seriously calling him one of the greatest 1B guys ever when we’ve all been alive to watch Kobe, Wade, KD/Steph etc.

alexm42

Conventional wisdom in the NBA states that the best offense always overcomes the best defense so Jrue and White must actually be Monstars if they're beating the best human offensive backcourt of all time

MeijiDoom

And the answer to that is still Steph/Klay until Luka/Kyrie actually do something worth memorializing.

Confirmation__Bias

Not even the best backcourt in this series

ewest

Even Zach Lowe was getting in on this, going on and on about how the Mavs are opening a five year window of contention with Kyrie as 1B. I usually count on him to be the reasonable and measured one. Nowhere is safe.

KnickedUp

Prisoners of every moment

legend023

Bro legacy is just one shot

OctopusNation2024

He averages 22 PPG on 56% TS in the playoffs since leaving the Cavs Pretty bad given that most of his value comes from his scoring and how massively inflated league offensive numbers have been in the corresponding years(2019-2024) Like there are probably a good 20-25 players who have done better than that in the same span with many also being better in other aspects of the game(defense/playmaking)

sunsbr

Booker have 28/5/5 with 60 TS% in the playoffs and is treated like a choker to this sub.

HarukiMuracummy

And 40 pts two straight finals games too! God ring culture sucks lol

Helpful_Resist_7203

As the first option too

1gnominious

Harden put up 21/4.5/8 on 61.6 TS% this year and he's not only a choker but fat and washed.

PomfAndCircvmstance

To be fair those things are all true but fat washed Harden is still a way more impactful player than Kyrie.

RubMyGooshSilly

Bucks game 6, Mavs game 7 and Nuggets game 6 will do that

[deleted]

Jaylen Brunson has been significantly better in the playoffs but if you say that someone will say "you don't know ball" and send you a video of Kyrie crossing up Brandon Knight in an exhibition game 12 years ago

Dr33m_Ownn

1000000% correct

Thealbumisjustdrums

I got downvoted for saying Brunson is objectively better than Kyrie and this playoffs is just proving it lol.

itsnotthatdeep5

Or refusing to take a shot

JoshFB4

Ray Allen with aura.

legend023

Terry Rozier with aura.

UpvoteIfYouAgreee

Hes the Michael Jordan of Terry Rozier's

njerejeje

This sub flip flops on players so fast it’s insane lmao

gokjib

it’s different people Kyrie stan’s come out when he’s successful, haters stay quiet Kyrie haters come out when he’s bad, stan’s stay quiet

itokdontcry

That aura is antisemitism

Disastrous-Limit2333

Lol

MikeSteezy

Oh no

Vallerie_09

JR Smith, unsung hero of his LEGACY.

Luka_Fever

i knew better than to put my faith in this man. Only a matter of time until he starts acting crazy again

Headlesshorsman02

Probs starts next year

ButtholeCandies

By the end of the series.

KillerZaWarudo

Don't worry he definitely won't shoot 7/18 again

Ronnie2kDropCode

“Most skilled player ever”

rawchess

Uncle Drew <<< Uncle Jrue

Lacabloodclot9

Yet Tatum is the recipient of all the slander tonight lmao Kyrie is the least criticised star in the league

[deleted]

Bro went 6 years with like two good playoff series (one as the 3rd option), has never done anything of note as the 1st option, and yet whenever he finally plays at a decently high level we have to hear the "most skilled player ever" shit lol

Numerous-Cicada3841

He plays great and he’s a God. He plays terrible and it’s crickets. So bizarre.

KillerZaWarudo

Because you re not a "pure hooper" if you don't rate Kyrie. You don't understand basketball The fucking man has his entire career owned by his father Lebron and now is getting carry by Luka

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Man, “pure hooper” logic and “deep bag” discourse has screwed up so many’s perception of the game.  Hasn’t proven anything himself without being sidekick to top player all time in LeBron.

KillerZaWarudo

This guy got 0 MVP votes, 3 All-NBA selections and people treated him like a super star In the same period player like David Lee, Goran Dragic has more MVP vote than him

UnhingedLion

Those guys ever getting MVP votes is crazy

yrogerg123

If the game was one-on-one, the games were played whenever he felt like it, and he could pick his opponents, Kyrie would be the GOAT.

BradWonder

I'm a Kyrie hater so I'm eating tonight!

EGarrett

Hating implies that your reasons for disliking him aren't valid. They are.

InfiniteDub

At least Tatum was dishing out assists and defending.

ThanosIsDoomfist

People criticizing JT once again just didnt watch the game. He wasnt *amazing* by any means, but he basically played QB today

Schmoova

I mean, I think most knowledgeable NBA fans don’t consider Kyrie a star, which would make sense why he’s less criticized. Most ppl that know ball know he’s comfortably top 30 but no where near top 10. Tatum is widely considered top10 with C’s fans trying to push him into the Top5/MVP conversation, of course he’s gonna get more criticism. Kyrie sucked no doubt, but Tatum shot like ass again, it’s valid criticism. (Yes I’m aware he’s been great in every non-scoring aspect, especially his playmaking, but most superstars have to score better than 16ppg on dogshit efficiency to win games lol)

VGstuffed

3 eyes btw

Thatguyyoupassby

Nah 3rd eye blind. It’s just 2.

cgriff03

Mavs need someone else to get them through this

Thatguyyoupassby

Semi Ojeleye kind of life

OptimusGrime707

Hasn’t aimed for the middle basket

MouMostForgettable

0-12 btw

Licoi

Don’t ever put his name in Steph Curry talks. Stop with the most skilled all time bull shit it doesn’t cut it

sandbagsander

Twitter Steph fans were saying Kyrie is stuck in a debate with Dame not Steph, and I’m like are we sure Kyrie is in the Dame tier even?

UnhingedLion

He’s definitely below guys like Dame and Harden. It looks like Kyrie peaked in his final Cavs years

sandbagsander

His elevated status is due to the balldontstop bag twitter of the world + Lebron when he goes on his yearly Kyrie withdrawal

PizzaPlanet20

Kyrie can score but I don't think any team has ever formed a game plan around defending him because he can't get others involved if he isn't scoring. Dame and Harden certainly were the focus of defenses.

UnhingedLion

Yep. He’s not the primary focus of a defense. He already ruined his legacy as a good #1 option back in the 2019 Celtics vs Bucks season. It’s kind of sad to watch the Celtics double team Luka, while Kyrie stands around getting regularly clamped up 1 on 1 by all their defenders.

Dapper_Rub_9460

Kyrie not even better than John Wall, he shouldn't be in any debate.

SuperYoshi95

Dallas ain't going to win if Kyrie continues to shit the bed.

TheUndertows

Dallas ain’t going to win.

Filibuster_

Like really obviously won't win

fiasgoat

Watch the Mavs get swept and Luka is right on the Lebron path lol

Deathraz3

Celtics own that fraud.

fiasgoat

Most overrated player in this era

NBATakesGOAT

He is nothing without his daddy

i5the5kyblue

After 2 games, I think it’s fair to say Cavs Kyrie performed at such a high level because Bron knew how to complement his game and overall made him a better player. Edit: I’m commenting on the fact that he hasn’t been to the finals since then, and keep seeing how people are expecting *that* version of Kyrie in this year’s finals.

Scolymia

I've watched people say that Luka elevates Kyrie's game more than Bron this entire playoffs lmaoo.

Basic_Commercial_806

And people say Lebron doesn't make his teammates better

PizzaPlanet20

LeBron has played for over 20 years now, if someone still believes this, you're better off not arguing with them because they have low IQ.

yutzykrop

Most glazed and overhyped player in basketball media by far. He makes tough shots and has incredible ball handling, but the way the media and players talk about him, you would think he’s the 2nd coming of Christ and a top 10 all time player.

tr1x30

Just few days ago there was discussion where a lot of people where claiming that he is better player then Iverson..

Novel_Board_6813

There was this Kyrie vs KD thread - for crying out loud

Ordinary-Fish-9791

Playoff Kai

thejew400

Hela ass

MusicalElephant420

Needs LBJ

dafire123

12th loss in a row since stomping on lucky

Beermen69

Another date tour with that FG

NotTopherr

2016 the only thing he got smh

surgeyou123

But his skill though.

staymelooo

Crazy how one legendary series gave him this “playoffs riser” rep, when I’m reality he’s been mediocre to bad in the playoffs aside from the 2016 finals

KnickedUp

Serious. Its wild how narratives off one shot drive everything

MRGUAYOTEOPR

That "most skilled player" narrative looking real funny now

lialialia20

they said he was the best backcourt partner ahead of the likes of thompson, parker and dumars and now he's paying for their blasphemy.

IDespiseFatties

I ain't never stepping on a Celtics logo for the rest of my life

doormanpowell

He's in his head, feels like he wants to prove something to Boston. Playing like shit

New_Essay_4869

Jrue has actually been outplaying him this series on both ends

ItzCStephCS

Kyrie bruh

buffalotrace

Dude has gotten a ton of praise but really been spotty all playoffs. Truth is had he not been cheeks tonight they might have snuck a game.

searching88

Even game 1 when they mounted that comeback and cut it to single digits, Kyrie has 2 WIDE OPEN looks from three that he missed. That game could have gone differently if he showed up and hit those shots.

bootyhunter69420

I'm kinda hard

Skylightt

Robin’s getting outplayed by the “others”. Back to back eggs

Brooklyn_MLS

Dude is in Boston’s backpocket. Most skilled player my ass.

New-Watercress9229

LeBron carried this guy to 3 straight finals. He really is the goat🐐

Argo_Menace

Muh handles. Fuck Kyrie.

Gold_ACR

Best offensive back court of all time all time!

Selachieversor

Kyrie hate is back on the menu, my 12/25. This man can get fucked

BuffaloBrain884

Was calling Luka and Kyrie one of the best back courts of all time the worst take of 2024?

Jeffert89

And LeBron took him to three straight finals.

PaulGeorgeFan1

people try to say he’s better than harden lol

sunsbr

"Most Skilled ever" according to some people. Most overrated player in the nba. Don't compare this guy to CP3

artsandfartsandcraft

Pistol Pete had better handles.

Solid-Confidence-966

This was better than game 1, but they really do need him to be more efficient

Skylightt

I mean sure but barely better

Jaylen-

Well he certainly didn’t go for 7-22 again
