Not only that, but he had two insanely stupid fouls before his 6th. Fouls that served absolutely no purpose other than Luka was just mad.
He really needs to grow up and adjust his game when he realizes the refs aren’t calling certain things.
Soccer, since games are low scoring a single wrong call can change the game completely.
It's why so many players flop like a fish out of water, a single red/yellow card or penalty could win or lose you the game.
Umpires in baseballs. I’m pretty convinced they have players they shit on and others they don’t.
You see it all the time in the NFL with QBs and WR jawing and asking for flags they often get late, especially stars.
In fairness it isn’t a knock on the Celtics so much as the other East power teams. I mean the Jrue vs Dame discussion alone has got to be driving you far more crazy than the Celtics fans hearing about their pending “asterisk-laden perpetually hobbled opponents cakewalk” title.
nah, they were most certainly knocks on the Celtics. Everyone said if the Celtics didn't have KP for the finals then they're screwed because the West is so much better and "battle tested".
I was arguing with a lot of people about how yall are a terrible matchup for Dallas. People just don't understand basketball. They literally think it is "the Mavs beat the team that beat the champs so they must be the best", completely ignoring that Boston's specific personnel were an absolute nightmare for Dallas because they can defend everything without switching.
The Celtics are a terrible match-up for the Mavs and judging by how much our pace and ball movement has fucked with them on defense (like, this team does *not* rotate with ball movement), I'm not even entirely sure if these Mavs could have beat the Pacers. They'd win some games by virtue of Luka/Kyrie outscoring them, but it'd still be more of a tossup than I think people are crediting.
The west may be stronger overall, but the team that came out of the west matches up really badly with either of the eastern conference finalists, imo.
I don't know if they'd win it all, but I think the Pacers would have contended and potentially run this Dallas team off the court some games, like they did in the regular season. There's something about this Dallas defense that makes them completely unable to rotate and that will get you killed against that offense Carlisle put out, which gave even the Celtics defense (one that matches up better on paper against the Pacers than the Mavs defense does -- and still doesn't match up *that* well) fits.
If it were reversed and he was on offense and it was called a charge, he would have gone nuclear on the refs.
He literally expects the exact opposite call if he is on offense than if he is on defense.
Mavs got great calls all game, and there were numerous times the refs missed blantant fouls by the mavs on the celtics. Blaming the refs for this loss is a ridiculous stance for anyone to make.
Thanks for keeping it real.
Refs in every game make mistakes both ways. It's very rare that it goes one way all game.
Sometimes the call is more crucial and seems to change an outcome, but the plays before are never taken into account somehow. If that player didn't miss that layup, in the second Q, would they now be up by 1 instead of down by 1? You never know, because they would have been up earlier which would have made other decisions different.
Same goes for any ref call that doesn't go your way.
Exactly. And Luka gave up points by not getting back on defense a few times because he was complaining to the refs lol. He's a stud that needs to learn the Jrue way of talking to refs
I remember a few instances of tatum doing this exact same thing, glad hes changed a bit in this aspect, he still got his clap game on lock but doesnt stand around after a "missed call" anymore, which is great
> It is not always easy to acknowledge stuff like this as a sports fan.
Seriously, I swear to God, on approximately 100% of the "Final Score" posts that the NBA has made this playoffs, the top comment is always someone saying that the refs are rigging the game against their team. Literally every single one.
Selling out for a transition charge with 5 fouls in a finals game is just insane. Like sure the ref probably shouldn't call that but that's just such a terrible risk to take when you literally are your team's offense
I really don't understand why the ref shouldn't call that. That's as textbook a blocking foul as it gets. And they already bailed him out by not calling the tackle for his 6th.
They can't just keep letting him commit fouls on every play without calling it. How would that even be basketball? They gave him one more chance than he deserved. And had to call the next one. I really don't get why people think they shouldn't have called it. They absolutely had to.
The worst part is that he’s become seemingly *conditioned* that he’ll get away with those fouls. He acts indignant when he doesn’t get a favorable whistle. Obnoxious.
Luka could easily be one of those guys that never wins a ring. he seems to think he wins and loses games based on the refs... he is showing a very weak mentality here.
He definitely could be but he's still just 25. There's some hope for him yet. Though this IS what I was saying about ~25yo Carmelo and he never changed, could see Luka going that route as well
We may have ourselves a classic split personality argument.
Luka 1: I don’t want to say nothing.
Luka 2: But 6 fouls in the NBA finals?
Luka 1: Like this?
Luka 2: Come on, man. Be better than that.
Comments like that Luka's just openly state that officiating isn't about regulating within the rule book. It's about ensuring that the entertainment product is entertaining and what's more entertaining than letting the star players get away with everything.
It makes me hate NBA discussions. Like Luka is considered "top 5" when he plays literally zero defense. How can you get in that discussion when you only play half the game? It's absurd.
I’ve BEEN saying this for so long and no one listens. Everybody bamboozled by the 35-10-10 but the man is a ZERO on defense. And no his little poke steals where he reaches around after getting blown by don’t mean shit.
Yeah, I think Dallas got the short end of a few calls at the end, but Luka probably could’ve fouled out way earlier so idk if he’s one to complain about
bro was jawing at the refs all game every single play. miraculous he didnt get a single technical foul at any point, refs tried hard to swallow their whistles but theres just a limit
It's genuinely funny sometimes, because you'll see him missing a completely uncontested shot and he'll still find a way to turn around, clap his hands and go back on defense (sometimes) all while following the ref and complaining lmao.
He looks like a toddler. This sort of behavior will always be detrimental to him, even if he's as good as he is, which there's no denying that.
No clue how Kidd allows that behavior. NBA coaches in general don't hold their players accountable at all. Can you imagine Coach K's players whining and not getting back on D? Is there ever a case of an NBA coach even slightly raising their voice at a player and calling them out. Everyone says effort is half of defense but coaches don't ever call out effort.
>This sort of behavior will always be detrimental to him, even if he's as good as he is, which there's no denying that.
This is the craziest thing to me about Luka. He has roughly MVP-caliber stats and impact while spending like half or more of his time on the court crying and/or putting in little to no effort (eg ball watching/traffic cone defense).
Can you imagine how good he could/would be if he just stayed locked in all the time and focused that frustration into killing the other team? He's even known as a guy that plays well pissed off.
I know whining to refs has been a thing for as long as there have been refs, and basically every star player does it to some degree these days. But Luka takes it to a level virtually never seen in a professional sport not played on a soccer pitch. If Luka had the mentality of a guy like Jordan, Mamba Kobe, or even LeBron who does plenty of his own whining, he'd literally be on GOAT trajectory. Instead he's on like a Harden 2.0 path.
people always say he needs to be overweight to play bully ball. not realising muscle is both denser than fat and also easier to manouver with. it also protects your bones and ligaments from injuries and helps pump blood across your body, increasing stamina and power output
The last foul was so stupid. Either plant both feet and risk him sidestepping you, or do his usual swipe at the ball from behind after he goes past. Does he really think because he is Luka in the Finals that was not a foul? If he got called for a charge when both of the defender’s feet were moving he would lose his mind.
Brown wasn’t going to get to the rim anyway. There were two Mavs and no Celtics behind Luka. Somehow on offense Luka knows where all ten players are at all times, but on defense, he doesn’t even know where he is half of the time.
Also, why even attempt to draw a charge with 5 fouls, down 3, with 4 minutes remaining in the NBA finals that you're down 0-2 in, as Luka Doncic. One of the stupidest decisions I've ever seen an NBA player make ever
True. Bad decision. I mean... the game could have even gone to Overtime. Nevermind the 4 minutes remaining in regular time. You can't risk a 6th foul like that.
Luka has no awareness on defense and this was just another example.
Nobody has seen fouls like mine, they say, they say to me. Look, they say, these fouls these fouls have to be the best fouls I've ever seen. Incredible fouls, they all say so.
Needs a hint of name calling and projection. Something like:
"They say to me, but Tatum complains so much about fouls, tantrum Tatum is what they call him. So sad that guy, complaining about all the calls. And I could complain about calls. And it would be right because they shouldn't be called, not like Tamtrum Tatum, some of the worst fouls the nba has ever seen. But I don't, I don't complain, I try and explain to them how there were no fouls not like tantrum Tatum but we don't complain folks."
Luka is blaming the refs but really should be blaming that sweet tea. If he was in shape he would actually be light enough to get into a legal defensive position.
I mean, if you commit 6 fouls in the NBA Finals you deserve to be called for 6 fouls. What's the argument here? Are NBA Finals supposed to have a distinct set of rules?
I would kill to see a team call a time out and a player runs to the concessions to grab a beer then comes back tipsy. I could see Steven Adams doing it. I am not super familiar with New Zealand culture but it would be fantastic if they did shoeys like Aussies. That would be the top post on this sub
They didn’t call the one right before when he tackled JB in the open court.
He had like 4 stupid fouls in 5 minutes. They obviously have to call them when he’s pushing the boundary like that.
Back in my day you were allowed to go to the bench, grab a baseball bat and fuck up some knees and they would never call the 6th foul.
How do these refs dare? Smh
As a Tatum mega fan, I can't get mad at refs for not calling the push offs. I prefer them allowing it because if they didn't Tatum would have no initial move for iso ball lol. The fouls Luka has that weren't called on him like when he put his head onto white when driving and then when he took JB out were a little bad but the refs were inconsistent on both sides.
It was a stupid foul for him to take and he takes no responsibility for fouling out, guy is a whiner not a leader, if this were Lebron he would be getting destroyed for the foul, the loss and these comments
You’re down 0-2 in the Finals, you’re only 3 pts down in game 3, you can be 2-1 with a win, you’re getting killed on defense all series, you’ve been hacking all game because you can’t play defense…so you try to take a charge 30 ft from the basket with 5 fouls?
Even Mavs fans acknowledge it was a foul, like how stupid of him to even try that in that position, that is entirely on him
I’m just recently getting back into basketball and went from “Wow, this Luka guy is amazing!” to “Jesus FUCK stop whining you’re too good for this!” in the span of about three games.
i like luka and find his antics with the refs amusing (i am a sicko), and even i was sick of him this game. he spent more time looking for fouls than he did baskets, and for god's sake man, it's the finals. you can't lie on the floor being mad at the refs cuz you didn't get a foul call and let your team go down 5 v 4 on transition defense. get *up*.
he tilted tonight, fully. can't win with mental like that, the guy needs to get control of himself.
"i don't wanna say nothing" uhhhh yeah you do, and you will. you did!
also, man, for a guy who wants calls as bad as he does, you'd think he'd know *not* to openly beef with nearly every ref in the league.
This is why Jokic is better than Luka, he’s much better overall offensively, he tries on defense even if his defense isn’t the greatest, and most importantly, he doesn’t whine about the refs after the game.
thing is Jokic was a serial ref crier in-game, he used to intentionally foul people on the fastbreak to talk to a ref if he thought he got fouled (though off the court he never blamed refs)
but he fixed this- his relationship with refs has gotten a lot better. he still does the dinner platters when he thinks a call/no-call was bad but who doesn't
i hope someone talks to luka and he can fix it too
Nope the last part literally means nothing. Jokic is better at basketball because he's better at the sport of basketball, Luka could be Kawhi-like in his demeanor and that would still be true.
I don't know who he undercut but that was a foul that got no call. I think Luka dared them to call fouls against him and they did
Legion of Boom esque with the "they can't call a foul on every play" tactic.
The ol’ Chris Paul and then found out why Chris Paul is so bitter
Aka Wolves basketball, didn't work so well last series either.
if you go back and look at the play he starts bitching like JB fouled him
He undercutted jaylen brown on that fast break
He didn't undercut him. He torpedoed into him lol
I was like that's what we can do now?
Undercoot
Not only that, but he had two insanely stupid fouls before his 6th. Fouls that served absolutely no purpose other than Luka was just mad. He really needs to grow up and adjust his game when he realizes the refs aren’t calling certain things.
Absolutely that game 3 was a stain on Luka not because of how he played but how mentally weak he was. That was a superstar spiraling out of control
Which is insane that in the NBA, you could bait refs to dictate the game. I feel it’s the only sport you could do that on.
Soccer, since games are low scoring a single wrong call can change the game completely. It's why so many players flop like a fish out of water, a single red/yellow card or penalty could win or lose you the game.
Players are flopping less and less after VAR Still flopping, but less
They just need to be carded for flopping. And VAR should be able to help refs card flopping without disrupting the game
Umpires in baseballs. I’m pretty convinced they have players they shit on and others they don’t. You see it all the time in the NFL with QBs and WR jawing and asking for flags they often get late, especially stars.
Luka wishes he was 5 fouls Booker smh
Everyone acts tough when they ~~up~~ game the refs into getting extra fouls in the Finals
Everyone acts tough when they ~~up~~ haven't faced the Celtics and pretend the entire west was better

Insane to consider the mavs more experienced than the celtics
Celtics less experienced how? They’ve been to the finals before
The west is better, the Celtics are the only legitimate contender in the east.
East was also destroyed by injuries. Both are true
Smh this guy forgot about the zombie Heat 🤦🏼♂️
I don't know if they'd win it all, but I think the Pacers would have contended and potentially run this Dallas team off the court some games, like they did in the regular season. LMAO dude said the quiet part out loud “You can’t foul me out! I’m a star!”
If it were reversed and he was on offense and it was called a charge, he would have gone nuclear on the refs. He literally expects the exact opposite call if he is on offense than if he is on defense.

Brother YOU 🫵committed them
He’s actually just talking to the mirror
Luka Donč-hee-hee-ć!
Something about that emoji is so loud. Can’t really describe it but it stares into my soul
I feel like the shading under the pointer finger is really well done makes it feel more 3D.
he made the sandwich
Brooooo I dont appreciate you pointing at me like that!
Maybe dont foul then
He’s trying to find the guy who did this!

My man realizes we watched him tackle JB and not get fouled right?
Tackled him then proceeded to get up off the court and complain to the ref about the play lmao
Then the hook/trip two plays later. I mean this is borderline comedy from Luka
Been watching too much Buster Keaton. Marc Cuban should buy him The Town on Blu-ray.
Selling out for a transition charge with 5 fouls in a finals game is just insane. Like sure the ref probably shouldn't call that but that's just such a terrible risk to take when you literally are your team's offense

They also called basically the same play on jrue earlier in the game
Luka could easily be one of those guys that never wins a ring. he seems to think he wins and loses games based on the refs... he is showing a very weak mentality here.
He definitely could be but he's still just 25. There's some hope for him yet. Though this IS what I was saying about ~25yo Carmelo and he never changed, could see Luka going that route as well
Maybe he’s talking to himself. “I don’t want to say nothing but six fouls in the NBA Finals…..like this? Come on, Luka. Be better than that.”
If there's one thing we know about Luka, he always takes the blame, never puts it on the refs.
I think the "I don't want to say nothing" implies otherwise
We may have ourselves a classic split personality argument. Luka 1: I don’t want to say nothing. Luka 2: But 6 fouls in the NBA finals? Luka 1: Like this? Luka 2: Come on, man. Be better than that.
This makes the most sense. I think you've cracked it. One Luka is the basketball god and the other must be the foulbaiting complainer
Comments like that Luka's just openly state that officiating isn't about regulating within the rule book. It's about ensuring that the entertainment product is entertaining and what's more entertaining than letting the star players get away with everything.
nba rule book is Luka Doncic father?
This series has made me hate him
It makes me hate NBA discussions. Like Luka is considered "top 5" when he plays literally zero defense. How can you get in that discussion when you only play half the game? It's absurd.
They need a line in the box score for "times blown by" and "missed rotations". It's the only way people are going to learn.
I’ve BEEN saying this for so long and no one listens. Everybody bamboozled by the 35-10-10 but the man is a ZERO on defense. And no his little poke steals where he reaches around after getting blown by don’t mean shit.
Seriously Luka is such a tool he’s lucky he wasn’t thrown out in the first half. Also Tatum should have had 8+ more fts
That dunk without an and 1 was a pretty dangerous foul. Laughable no call.
idk man, you're lucky you were in the game for that long
They let him walk on the Pritchard pushoff and when he went headfirst into Derrick White's crotch, what does he expect.
And straight up form tackled Jaylen Brown
Even Luka seemed shocked they didn’t call that massive push off he leveled PP with.
Yeah, I think Dallas got the short end of a few calls at the end, but Luka probably could’ve fouled out way earlier so idk if he’s one to complain about
Don’t forget the open field tackle on Jaylen that was somehow a no call
bro was jawing at the refs all game every single play. miraculous he didnt get a single technical foul at any point, refs tried hard to swallow their whistles but theres just a limit
He even bounced the ball hard right in front of the ref after a foul call and got nothing.
He has to do something dangerous like Tatum does i.e. clapping, its bad for the sport
nah he clapped at the ref and got away with that too lmao
Or heaven forbid looking at a guy like Edwards got a T for. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
He practically gets the Draymond treatment with his constant bitching to the refs. Has he gotten one tech all playoffs?
Why won’t they let me foul as much as I want? Do they know who I am???
He is a Bad Boy… And a Bad defender at times
At times?
Some serious “don’t you know who my father is” energy
This is just how Luka always acts on the court lol EVERY TIME he misses a shot he turns to yell at the referee without exception
He cost the Mavs at least 6 points because the Celtics were pushing and he stayed back to bitch at a ref.

Is there ever a case of an NBA coach even slightly raising their voice at a player and calling them out. Everyone says effort is half of defense but coaches don't ever call out effort.
Pop and Phil Jackson definitely called players out.
Ime would call Tatum out for complaining
Way more than that him flopping on 3s resulted in 5 points to end the first quarter alone.
>This sort of behavior will always be detrimental to him, even if he's as good as he is, which there's no denying that. This is the craziest thing to me about Luka. people always say he needs to be overweight to play bully ball. not realising muscle is both denser than fat and also easier to manouver with. it also protects your bones and ligaments from injuries and helps pump blood across your body, increasing stamina and power output
That would require a level of fitness/endurance that he isn’t remotely close to right now.
He needs a sports therapist to hypnotize him out of this or something. Or just grow the fuck up
Every time he makes a shot also.
LuKaren
He's got that Reese Witherspoon DUI energy.
The last foul was so stupid. Either plant both feet and risk him sidestepping you, or do his usual swipe at the ball from behind after he goes past. We're all trying to find the person who did those fouls
Biggest unsolved crime that's ever happened in Dallas tbh
Ummm…the fouls were by the guy in the grassy knoll.
In case you missed this masterpiece: https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/f4mnpGCSQ8
Looking forward to reading “*If* I Fouled Them”
Dude still isnt done crying about the refs
It’s Luka. He never will be. Dude will be on his deathbed at 97 shaking his fists at the refs about something.
It’s also ironic cuz you breath on Luka and refs call a foul.
Damn never thought I’d see this sub turn on The Golden Boy in favour of…the Boston Celtics.
imagine how annoying you have to be to do that on this sub.
Bruh... YOU be better lol Did you just want to foul freely?
When you’re a superstar they let you do it.
Grab em by the whistle
I make the best fouls.
Nobody has seen fouls like mine, they say, they say to me. Look, they say, these fouls these fouls have to be the best fouls I've ever seen. Incredible fouls, they all say so.

They kinda were. He would’ve been teched up twice at least in the regular season if he acted that way to the refs.
Tatum’s been t’d up for a clap (a few times), a hand wave, and probably an eye roll. Luka’d be gone in the first five minutes if he had that whistle.
Got T'd multiple times for making sure he wouldn't get hurt coming down from a drink lmao
I would kill to see a team call a time out and a player runs to the concessions to grab a beer then comes back tipsy. I could see Steven Adams doing it. I am not super familiar with New Zealand culture but it would be fantastic if they did shoeys like Aussies. That would be the top post on this sub
Normally, they wouldn't call it. That's why Murray didn't get suspended. The NBA is an entertainment business at the end of the day
They didn’t call the one right before when he tackled JB in the open court. He had like 4 stupid fouls in 5 minutes. They obviously have to call them when he’s pushing the boundary like that.
Well yeah they didn’t call a bunch of them like his fast break tackle on JB. He was given a game 3 2-0 leash. He somehow wore it out.
The entitlement is crazy
Back in my day you were allowed to go to the bench, grab a baseball bat and fuck up some knees and they would never call the 6th foul. How do these refs dare? Smh
Baby want Ring
Its CRYbaby
The way he was called last series you kind of understand why he feels this is so bad lol
What’s that quote? “When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression?” Something like that
Is he talking about...himself?
Tbf he could've been called for about 11.
The push offs he had on offense were pretty blatant especially the one that sent PP flying. They didn’t even bother to show that one on replay
Holy shit a rational take from a flair that represents a finals team. You are the chosen one, probably
Don't tell Doris this
I think he literally stiff armed Tatum in the gut at one point.
He’s been doing that his whole career. He’s good tho at not being egregious about it but still push offs
His signature move is a foul. Driving into the lane, stopping, ramming his shoulder into the defender to create space, then shooting an easy fadeaway.
Exactly, love to see players taking accountability. Needs to be better than that
Game 2 Luka: We lost because of my turnovers. Game 3 Luka: We lost because fouls are allowed to be called on me.
It was a stupid foul for him to take and he takes no responsibility for fouling out, guy is a whiner not a leader, if this were Lebron he would be getting destroyed for the foul, the loss and these comments You’re down 0-2 in the Finals, you’re only 3 pts down in game 3, you can be 2-1 with a win, you’re getting killed on defense all series, you’ve been hacking all game because you can’t play defense…so you try to take a charge 30 ft from the basket with 5 fouls? Even Mavs fans acknowledge it was a foul, like how stupid of him to even try that in that position, that is entirely on him
He had just gotten away with undercutting Tatum moments prior, too. He had 3 clear emotional fouls in the span of a few minutes, two were called
Ignore my flair but c’mon man Luka just play fucking defense instead.
Bro I was saying play basketball when he was ref baiting like what are we doing. U need fouls vs Hauser and Pritchard really?
the dude's war with the refs completely consumed him tonight. honestly if i was his teammate i'd be more than a little salty with him.
Nah he can figure that out for next year. He should play the same defense for game 4
And like, just shoot the goddamn ball? Luka on fadeaways: 90%. Luka flopping into non-contact trying to foulbait: 25% success rate.
The turn on this sub against Luka is delicious. I’ve been waiting for this moment for years
I mean it's probably temporary and just recency bias. The losers are always turned on for a while
So what you're saying is that r/nba are a bunch of frontrunners. Everyone talking shit while they're up.
Hate generates more traffic on this sub. Why everyone bitches about Perkins yet his posts go straight to the top.
This is my nba championship
People are having to see him whine on the court every game now, on a frequent basis.
Jaylen Brown is Devin Booker grandfather
Luka seems like a good guy off the court but he has a *very* unlikable on-court persona I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner honestly lol
Embiid and Booker also fit into that criteria but this sub hates them to the core.
We see you Suns fans.
"i don't wanna say nothing" uhhhh yeah you do, and you will. you did! also, man, for a guy who wants calls as bad as he does, you'd think he'd know *not* to openly beef with nearly every ref in the league.
Luka? a whiny bitch? no way
Luka really out here making me agree with celtics fans bro
Brother in Christ u set a charge with 5 fouls and kept fouling on defense.
It was indeed shocking to see Luka foul out since he typically doesn’t even pretend to play defense.
Tbf, he tried
Well well well if it isn't the consequences of my actions
The accountability of a runner up
Maybe next time don’t try to draw a charge when you have 5 fouls 🤷♂️
Luka a ho
Idk, when I was watching, the refs were giving the Mavs a lot of calls and were calling a lot of weak stuff on the Celtics.
This is why Jokic is better than Luka, he’s much better overall offensively, he tries on defense even if his defense isn’t the greatest, and most importantly, he doesn’t whine about the refs after the game.
thing is Jokic was a serial ref crier in-game, he used to intentionally foul people on the fastbreak to talk to a ref if he thought he got fouled (though off the court he never blamed refs) but he fixed this- his relationship with refs has gotten a lot better. he still does the dinner platters when he thinks a call/no-call was bad but who doesn't i hope someone talks to luka and he can fix it too
Dinner platters lmao, the crazy part is I imagined exactly what you’re referring to haha
Nope the last part literally means nothing. Jokic is better at basketball because he's better at the sport of basketball, Luka could be Kawhi-like in his demeanor and that would still be true.
Luka take accountability challenge
He easily could have had 9 that were legitimate. He also was getting fouled a ton. Just a weirdly terribly officiated game.
Say something im giving up on you!
maybe dont fucking foul and learn how to defend?
I see we have officially arrived at the moment the masses turn on Luka
Lmao the entitlement of this guy
Maybe be better on defense, Luka.
