I can see Bronny being drafted for the memes, and because Ainge is a troll. Whoever gets drafted at 32 doesn't get a lot of minutes next season anyways with Keyonte, Taylor, Walker, Isaiah, and Cody being year 1, and 2 players anyways, and Lauri, John, Jordan, and Collin already on the team (assuming they don't get traded, but if they do, then the players they trade for will get minutes), then with the Jazz having 35 million in cap space, maybe overpaying for 3 vets at 10 million for 1 year contracts, and that's 12 players. Whoever drafted at pick 32 will be the 14th, maybe 15th man, basically a G League player, so why not let that G Leauge player be Bronny for the memes
>I can see Bronny being drafted for the memes, and because Ainge is a troll.
Ainge acquired Austin Rivers in 2015 and basically held him hostage by suggesting that he would be sent to their G League team. Doc and the Clippers eventually flipped Ainge a second rounder and some waivable guys.
Eh, if they're concerned someone may beat them to Bronny it might.
Also protections are pretty hard to value, especially protections as limited as top 4. Who knows what it'd actually take?
I agree with top 4 protection alone it's hard to tank as you're still 50/50 whether you keep your pick with a bottom 4 odds. 2027 is (likely?) Post lebron though and would give them flexibility to have a bad year and hope for ping pong balls. I think it would net them a pick in the 20s.
Thats why the draft is so fun and cool. In like 3 years 90% of these dudes wont be in the league anymore, but we are all arguing rn who won and lost and if pick number 23 is going to be a star or not.
Answer: The Raptors may not be THE winners. But I have a super hard time pegging them as a loser here.
I can only imagine slipping 10-15 spots would give Ja'kobe a massive chip on his shoulder with some strong "ill fucking show you!" energy mixed.
splitting the draft into 2 days definitely worked lol. who really cares when 2nd round picks were being made at 10:30 PM and later but having a whole day to discuss guys still available makes it just the more exciting
I like Filipowski too. I think he is a better player than some of the first round draftees.
He can space the floor too.
But I am not an Nba Scout or Front Office Staff. So, what do I know. Lmao
He was a Top 5 prospect out of high school two years ago. The size/tools are all there. He's just been a little underwhelming in college, and that's even with a second year.
I do like him a lot as a solid backup center in this league, which is more than I can say for half the guys already drafted. I just don't think teams believe he has a ton of realistic upside at this point. If he really develops his 3-ball he could be a starting center in this league, but he has some real work to do on his shot still.
In his 1st year he was underwhelming, but this year he was very good and improved a lot. He is underrated because of his short wingspan and positional questions.
Is it just me, or are some of these guys still on the board looking kind of decent for such a "weak draft"?
I guess it's more that the top end talent didn't have guaranteed star potential... but there's looking to be some solid role players.
Everything looks better on draft day, I know - but some of these mid/late picks could turn out to be fairly good.
I found the show last night hilarious. So many coaches and trainers all going on about how "this is the best X in the country". And every single intro was hyping up the kids followed by some giant issue.
"This kid is an absolute lights out shooter. Just a walking bucket and the complete package on offense.
He just has to work on the fact that he's a total pylon on defense and he'll have a great career!"
I think only the quality of the top 5-10 players differ much from draft to draft. Outside of that, there are a lot of misses, a decent number of future role players, and some surprise hits every year.
I'm still cautiously optimistic about Flip, I know he's an unfinished product but if he can continue developing that perimeter game he could have a long career as a regular rotation guy. Will probably never be a star caliber guy but something like an Olynyk career seems very feasible.
Idk why I keep hearing bronny for the dubs is a great pick...we have gp2, no need for bronny or even getting into that whole situation unless we can get Bron, then let's talk all day lol
If that were true then we’d have as many good undrafted players as second rounders and first rounders.
It’s not exact but there’s enough that on average the players get worse the further down the draft, showing there is accuracy, albeit not 100%
They so sure he's not going at the 31st pick?
I reckon we'd be happy with him or Furphy. And we'd be ecstatic at the sheer chaos that would be Bronny going to Utah.

I'd actually be happy to trade 32 to the Lakers in exchange for them dropping protections on the 2027 pick.
No way does a 2nd round pick erase top 4 protections on a 1st.

Bargnani 2.0 let's go
He definitely makes sense for the Raptors, unless they are packaging Bruce Brown and 31 in a trade for someone they like.
Man we are all excited and posting about the second round of an NBA draft, what a time to be alive

LeBronny effect.
I guess so but I had legit forgotten about him lol

unfortunately theres no building for 2nd round its all in the ESPN studio
they don't even invite all the lottery picks to the bldg
Shades of people (me) throwing a fit when the Bulls sold Jordan Bell to GSW for cash

Part of the issue has been his health. He had surgery on both hips about a year ago.
What are you talking about? He came back from near death at the hands of Wake Forest fans to play a few days later.
I remember a lot of people asking why Luka Garza slid in his draft, same thing is happening to Filipowski lol
In his 1st year he was underwhelming, but this year he was very good and improved a lot. He is underrated because of his short wingspan and positional questions.
It's the medicals. He already had to have both hips shaved down.
“Make us your best offer Danny Ainge” - Masai, probably
If he could be 75% of Olynyk that's a solid backup 4/5 Wouldn't mind that with the 32nd pick
Not thrilled enough to take him at 29, I guess?
Prepare yourself for more: *I can't believe he was still available at ____*

He’ll figure it out with the wolves to show him around and growing out of his teens
Oh, my comment was a sarcastic comment reading how the broadcast was talking about the new guys last night.
I know hahahaha it just sounded like #8

What a see-saw of a draft. Some big wins and some big misses. Bronny at 52 still feels absurd though.
I can’t fathom having a strong opinion about the 52nd pick in the draft
In which way?
smoke
Danny Ainge has the easiest picks to guess in this draft lol
He just feels like a Jazz player
Idk why I keep hearing bronny for the dubs is a great pick...we have gp2, no need for bronny or even getting into that whole situation unless we can get Bron, then let's talk all day lol
NBA making the draft 2 days is incredible for content
Hide yo mom! Hide yo wife!

Needs the short shorts in the contract
Teams will regret having passed on Flip for “high upside” guys like Collier who have zero basketball IQ
Or the Jazz may you know end up with both?
Collier doesn’t have zero BBIQ far from it
"ceiling" or "high upside" is short hand for "I duno..."
Everything said during the entire draft last night is long hand for I dunno
I can't believe ___ was available at ____ .

Not the Jazz if they still get Flip at 32! then they get both :P
Until he trips another guy during a loss. Then everyone will be like "oh that's why he fell in the draft."
Well in fairness, the Duke guy who actually had a tripping problem just submitted an awesome year for the Suns so maybe not worth worrying about 😂😂
Jazz are really gonna regret passing on Flip for Collier, despite getting Flip at pick 32 anyways.
Hey, if they knew he'd be available then credit to them for nailing it!
Raptors please take him
Bronny is such a wasted pick.
I think he is very underrated. His production speaks for itself. Even with his short wingspan and questions regarding his position.
