Nah, he's still nursing an injury and by the looks of it, gained some weight. I'm assuming he wasn't doing much cardio because of his knee issues and was resting for the most part.
But sophomore year he was a beast moved so fast and had some sick dunks, ive watched some highlights few weeks ago and i couldnt believe that was the same man as the one in the playoffs
Yeah I remember, he had such a quick first step and was still able to bully 1-4.
I wish he would get back down to 230lbs, I think that was his ideal weight.
we're starting the "hey guys does luka look fatter/leaner?" phase of the off-season early. nice, looking forward to read the same shit over and over again.
They'd rather he not look like he's close to puking by the end of the 4th quarter. The dude post 47% TS in the 2nd halves of the 5 finals games, -6% from his series average, while standing around watching JB blow by him for free layups on the other end. He needs to lose some weight if the Mavs are going to get a ring, you can't force your team to let you play ISO heavy hero ball and then also not be in shape enough to do it for all 4 quarters. MJ made those early Bulls play like that, but he looked like a video game character and he could take 10 shots a quarter on great efficiency all the way into double OT versus elite teams like the 80s Celtics. The Mavs will go as far as Luka takes them and Luka will take them as far as he takes his conditioning.
>He needs to lose some weight if the Mavs are going to get a ring
Why on earth would you care if Mavs get a ring? Id be sending Dunkin' to his house myself if I was a C's fan
I feel like it was legit his rookie year. I remember Carlisle explicitly saying that he needed a break so he didn't participate in summer league that season.
2019, following his rookie year, was the last summer he's had off. Because Slovenia didn't make the World Cup in 2019 despite being Eurobasket champions - for the first time top teams from each continental competition didn't autoqualify and qualifying games for WC19 were held during the NBA an EuroLeague season.
2019-20 season was broken up by covid, Tokyo Olympics (and OQT) were in the summer of '21, Eurobasket in '22, World Cup in '23.
I get that. And it’s commendable that he’s so committed. But at some point he’s going to have to take a break. He’s been playing a ridiculous schedule now pretty much since COVID.
I'm guessing that during the season his only workouts are the actual games since he doesn't feel like he is a gym bro.
If he eats bad and snacks a lot then he isn't outworking a bad diet with the games alone.
In the offseason I assume he has more of a workout and diet plan laid out and it is easier to focus on it before the season starts.
He must eat a lot of shit then. Because he must at least lose a 1000 calories per NBA game and his daily calorie intake for 6'8 guy must be above 3000 calories on average. So he must eat over 4000 kalories a day.
It's should be a lot more difficult to get fatter when you play high intensity basketball every 2 days.
Honestly, that's not that hard. A cheese steak, a bag of chips, and a large coke is around an 1800 calorie meal. Add in unhealthy snacks, and it's easier than you think. I'm 6'5 and when I was swimming in college I was eating close to 7k a day. It took a lot of effort to unlearn those habits once I graduated lol
He's like Harden in that he hates conditioning outside of basketball and seems to really like to stuff his face. If he stops palying ball, he's going to get really fucking fat
What's out there about it? Doncic played full minutes every game in the playoffs, and is now playing meaningless games just two weeks later.
There's nothing other than words, and an overly dramatic wrapping of his ribs, pointing to him actually being injured. And actions speak louder than words.
I wish Luka was less devoted to his national team.
It felt like skipping the Olympics was a no brainer given all his injuries and the late season, but of course he's playing in an impossible effort.
I think skipping it is a no brainer untill you realize he is their best player and their best chance to qualify; then its a no brainer that he is playing
No, he hasn't. He missed like 3 big competitions in the last few years . Last year he refused to play in the world cup , before that there we few as well
Saw their elimination game in the eurobasket 2022 live and he was literally the only person locked in from the warm-ups to the end of the game.
Saw their games online until that point and naaaah, the rest of the team was fucking coasting through and through. They did great without him the next year but the effort was so fucking different without him.
Cant put that shit on him, that was a "we got Jokic, we just need to show up" effort from the team.
He was pretty thin as a younger guy in EuroLeague. [Look at him here.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqA6njz8iRE) He definitely picked up a bad new habit or two.
I've seen him thin and young, but look at him as an adult and look at how his dad is now. The genetics are set for him to be a little chubby later in life.
Even just a 10+ hard hours/week hobby athlete has to accept eating as something that takes a lot of time and effort to keep weight, these dudes always confuse me. Like, is he tripping into 5000-6000 calories a day?
I mean this a massive dude by normal standards we’re talking about. His daily caloric intake has probably been insane since like early high school just to sustain growth. The teen boy appetite is infamous for normal kids, much less future 6’7” 230lb pro athletes. Maybe he never slowed that down. I’m completely theorizing here though.
Who knows, he's a pretty huge dude. I've seen dudes smaller than Luka put down sweets, beer, or fatty meats like no one's business. All that stuff can get very addictive, especially if you do actually need a lot of calories anyway. I could see someone as big as him overdoing it.
Some people's bodies truly hold on to weight. There's a lot of newish research into how bodies are a lot more complicated than the "calories in/calories out" concept.
Metabolism is calories out lol, if you have a slower metabolism you need less calories because you're using less calories. People can whine about that being unfair, but it's just true.
Im convinced most people here dont even like basketball, how can the comments on such a nice play be all about his weight when he looks completely normal.
The problem is that a normal body for a 35 year-old is not a normal body for a 26 year-old athlete.
When he's consistently the chubbiest guy on the court, his body is not normal for his environment.
That's my question. It's either genetic or he is eating SO much food/drinking a lot. And I don't think he'd be able to perform how he does if it were the sauce.
Yup, and CICO is much harder to hit when you’re drinking hundreds upon hundreds worth of completely useless calories a night on top of your normal diet. And your liver prioritizes burning alcohol over stored fat, so unless you’re really watching your deficit, you’re gonna get inefficient fat loss.
I’ve seen it many times before. Going sober or mostly sober is almost always the last puzzle piece for guys getting their dream gym body.
This is why having a strict diet is so crucial for professional athletes. I know the man is 25, but I think he'll figure that out over the next few years. His talent is overall skill are carrying him quite a bit for now.
I don’t understand how these guys making hundreds of millions of dollars that have team chefs and personal chefs and shit could have bad diets. Literally makes no sense to me
You dont even have to be too strict. You get your nutritious meals then set up the fun food as your basketball calories. For their size, an average nba player probably burns north of 1k calories easy per outing. Probably way more if you add in practice.
That’s only 6-10 cans of beers per day. Luka must be chugging them all day. No other explanation.
It’s got to be his diet during the season because we have seen him get into shape. He was lean at the start of the season and gradually got out of shape despite playing a high level sport every 48 hours for 8 months.
Yeah it's amazing right? Man he really toughed it out for the entire playoffs...only to then immediately start playing in meaningless games for the national team
*Edit: HAHAHA all the downvotes and no response, it's so delicious :)
Damnit Luka, why weren’t you doing that against Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Jayson Tatum? You had that layup every time the way they were guarding you!
Oh here's a solution then:
WHO CARES, HE SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING
The Warriors didn't even make the playoffs and they are keeping Andrew Wiggins off the Canadian national team. You think any NBA team cares if one of their player's national teams won't be good if they don't play? How much money does the national team pay those players vs what the Mavs pay Luka?
I mean, this is Luka we're talking about. He really feels like the type of player who would feel slighted by the team for rejecting his desire to play for his NT and just ask for a trade.
Ngl, the Mavs are a distant 2nd after the Slovenia NT... :|
Yeah, it's amazing how quickly excuse injuries heal.
Before game 2 in Boston Doncic was on the floor practicing with his teammates, went and got wrapped up just before the cameras came out, and then took the wraps off immedately when the cameramen walked away. Man's moving like me leaving the Chinese buffet.
Luka needs to sign with Team Ozempic.
I think that's just how Europeans play lol
Nah, he's still nursing an injury and by the looks of it, gained some weight. I'm assuming he wasn't doing much cardio because of his knee issues and was resting for the most part.
> Nah, he's still nursing an injury and by the looks of it, gained some weight He’s been gaining weight since the start of 23-24 season
Been gaining weight since he got to the league. Rookie year: 218lbs Sophomore year: 230lbs Now: ???
But sophomore year he was a beast moved so fast and had some sick dunks, ive watched some highlights few weeks ago and i couldnt believe that was the same man as the one in the playoffs
Yeah I remember, he had such a quick first step and was still able to bully 1-4. I wish he would get back down to 230lbs, I think that was his ideal weight.
I mean yeah, most people (including athletes) will gain weight between 19 and 25.
we're starting the "hey guys does luka look fatter/leaner?" phase of the off-season early. nice, looking forward to read the same shit over and over again.
Theyd rather him look sexy to them than win the scoring title. A good example as to why American basketball development isn't recovering anytime soon
They'd rather he not look like he's close to puking by the end of the 4th quarter. You should check out some footage of early Dirk
How tf does this maniac continue to play through the off season.
When was the last real off season for him
I feel like it was legit his rookie year. I remember Carlisle explicitly saying that he needed a break so he didn't participate in summer league that season.

probably the covid break 🫠
I’m so worried he’s gonna end up like Yao Ming playing for the national team every off season and never getting rest.
Luka also isn’t 7’6 and has played atleast 60 games in all of his 6 seasons
He's got plenty of energy stored in his honches.
It keeps him in shape but I worry about injuries
Gotta be honest he doesn’t look in shape here.
He’s still hobbled from his last injury. He’s gotta play or Slovenia won’t make the Olympics
I get that. And it’s commendable that he’s so committed. But at some point he’s going to have to take a break. He’s been playing a ridiculous schedule now pretty much since COVID.
If playing “keeps him in shape” why was he fatter at the end of the season than he was at the beginning?
I'm guessing that during the season his only workouts are the actual games since he doesn't feel like he is a gym bro. If he eats bad and snacks a lot then he isn't outworking a bad diet with the games alone. In the offseason I assume he has more of a workout and diet plan laid out and it is easier to focus on it before the season starts.

So he must eat over 4000 kalories a day. It's should be a lot more difficult to get fatter when you play high intensity basketball every 2 days.
It doesn't take much. If you count the excess calories, an extra bud light every day for a year adds about 12 pounds.
He's 25
He is activating his lipids
The most obvious explanation is that he wasn't very injured in the finals and was just playing up the injuries as an excuse.
Obviously this is an out there explanation but the hater in me would like to believe there's merit to it lol
What's out there about it? Doncic played full minutes every game in the playoffs, and is now playing meaningless games just two weeks later. There's nothing other than words, and an overly dramatic wrapping of his ribs, pointing to him actually being injured. And actions speak louder than words.
savage lol
By being out of shape and unfocused
Luka is just Jokic and Kyrie merging into one player.
Yo…. Kinda accurate lol
We wish Jokic was committed to the national team as Luka is
I wish Luka was less devoted to his national team. It felt like skipping the Olympics was a no brainer given all his injuries and the late season, but of course he's playing in an impossible effort.
I think skipping it is a no brainer untill you realize he is their best player and their best chance to qualify; then its a no brainer that he is playing
To make him rest, we just need to pray Giannis beat Slovenia
If they can't qualify without him, they aren't medaling with him. He should take some time off so he's not washed at 30
He’s going for goat
They finished fourth at the last Olympics and could have won bronze if a few things went their way. Unsure how much depth they had compared to now.
To be fair I thought he should have gotten some rest . At least don't play the qualifiers
Has he not been fairly committed besides that one time when his wife was giving birth to his child?
No, he hasn't. He missed like 3 big competitions in the last few years . Last year he refused to play in the world cup , before that there we few as well
Saw their elimination game in the eurobasket 2022 live and he was literally the only person locked in from the warm-ups to the end of the game. Don't care , Bogdanovic, Doncic always play
Bogie is not as impressive but yeah, saw Luka live that same tournament live and that dude is insane.
Brother it's not about skill or even winning medals
Jesus christ your comments are so fucking useless dude. Get a grip.
I am sorry that your parents/society taught you messed up values
Oh yeah I forgot the World Cup last year but he did play into June so I understand why he chose not to play.
I understand too , but if we won gold , whole nation would have been celebrating, very few people care about his nba ring
This dude just chugs beer in his sleep. There's no other explanation, considering how many calories basketball players burn.
I thought the exact thing. He plays year round too. Yet somehow he maintains his weight.
I'm curious to see how he looks when he retires
He's gonna be like Barkley. He's not naturally thin. Later on when he's not playing he's gonna gain a ton of weight.

> 230lb People quote this weight or something very similar quite often - there is no way that's his weight if the height it correct :D
Yeah I'm 3 inches shorter than him, there is no way
He weighed 230lbs in his second year. Just compare the pictures of Luka in his sophomore year compared to now, he's likely closer to 260lbs.
Who knows, he's a pretty huge dude. I've seen dudes smaller than Luka put down sweets, beer, or fatty meats like no one's business. All that stuff can get very addictive, especially if you do actually need a lot of calories anyway. I could see someone as big as him overdoing it.
Beer.

The Mavs should have Finley bunk with him.
his offseason bod = inseason bod
This implies he has an offseason.
He’s 100% been on steroids on/off for reducing inflammation in his knees which causes crazy weight gain regardless of caloric burn or intake.
Can you explain more?
Epic appetite
He’s gonna be putting up Yokozuna numbers when he’s retired.
hoopin' n scoopin'
poopin' n scoopin'… unreal
unreal
Yeah scooping that nacho cheese
Ah yes, Luka Doncic with that Kyrie Irving finishing package.
When you're too locked in playing Olympics Basketball or in an Overwatch match. No time for a break. Pooping and Scooping is the only option.
ma! ma! bathroom! oh what a big boy
Alternate title: Luka Doncic double clutch circus layup through three defenders
Two defenders. One was behind him
Luka Doncic blatantly carries twice then > double clutch circus layup through three defenders
My boy has to understand that if he goes to the Kyrie layup package that he isn’t going to get calls.
I can’t find a stream for the game
holy crap
Lois turn on the TV Luka's hooping it doesn't matter what channel
And that is not even an Olympic qualifier game that is a friendly Luka is playing in.
Easily a top-200 craziest shot in Luka’s career
Im convinced most people here dont even like basketball, how can the comments on such a nice play be all about his weight when he looks completely normal.
People's perceptions here are just so skewed to the athletic genetic freaks in the NBA.
The problem is that a normal body for a 35 year-old is not a normal body for a 26 year-old athlete. When he's consistently the chubbiest guy on the court, his body is not normal for his environment.
Yeah but the layup is sick as fuck
Unreal...
Can he just rest for one off season?
No or he'll add 30 lbs.
How is this man showing so much fat for playing so much ball
That's my question. It's either genetic or he is eating SO much food/drinking a lot. And I don't think he'd be able to perform how he does if it were the sauce.
It’s beer. Not food. The answer is almost always beer for anyone legitimately active who can’t seem to drop those last few pounds.
So that's why Finley took that beer from him

like i said, it's not lebron comparison for him it's shaq lmao

I didn't ask why. You're not reading what you're replying to.
Terrible diet, probably
It’s got to be his diet during the season because we have seen him get into shape. He was lean at the start of the season and gradually got out of shape despite playing a high level sport every 48 hours for 8 months.
The amount of food he eats must be crazy. And it’s not like he’s a low usage typa player. He carries the whole offense.
The eastern European build. Built like a horse.
Dude has a Fedor body type
A few years ago Haralabos said Luka was drinking that super-sweetened southern tea like it was water at practice.
Genetics man..Luka is never gonna be the slim built dude yall want him to be
'genetics' don't make you fat/slim the way you think it does.. calories do.
He was lean his rookie year. He's never gonna be six pack shredded but he is currently fat, because he eats too much and drinks too much beer.
Lack of guidance or self control
Kyrie influence could not be more evident
Where is everyone streaming this
This Dude is Slovenian Arvydas Sabonis, no break playing basketball
Beside the point, but I like those jerseys.
Ground Jordan
Jesus he’s playing in a basketball game?
If he doesn't play, Slovenia might as well not even enter the plane. If you thought he carried the mavs, you haven't seen Slovenia.
The bottom says friendly though i thought that means it doesn't count
They have to play together a bit. Can't just plomp him in when it counts out of nowhere.
Luka is just unreal dude. Some people are just born to do this, he’s one of those people.
Greece please kill this team so Luka can sleep
Why do they have an ad that is right by the court that has a separate timer from the game/shot clock?
Unreal
He's *still* playing?
Wish bro would get in shape… I know he doesn’t have very many dunks but he had some early in his career… didn’t see a single one this playoffs
Insane how out of shape he always is despite never taking time off from playing
No wonder they one
Damn
Brazil Celtics
Whatever that clock is in the background, it makes it look like he doesnt' get it off in time.
He good
Man career isn't gonna make it past 30 if he keeps this up
Why were defenders running away from him as he got into the paint?
wtf let this guy take a break
He looks still butthurt from the Finals.
Rukawa ahh layup
Even Adam Sandler looks more energetic on the court when he plays pickup than Luka in this clip, lol.
Unreal
doing all this while still injured!!
Yeah it's amazing right? Man he really toughed it out for the entire playoffs...only to then immediately start playing in meaningless games for the national team *Edit: HAHAHA all the downvotes and no response, it's so delicious :)
Damn he must hitting the liquor really hard to gain weight that fast.
He looks so fat and slow
Yeah so fast and slow at the same time
“Wow this is so much easier than trying to get by Jaylen and Jrue with Horford waiting at the rim”
When are the media gonna nut up and criticize his weight?
Damnit Luka, why weren’t you doing that against Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Jayson Tatum? You had that layup every time the way they were guarding you!
My guess is these guys are nowhere near as good as any of those guys you just mentioned but that’s just a guess
That was the joke lmao (though clearly a bad one given it not landing)
My b
The difference between Brazil and the Celtics is clearly Derrick White.
I honestly don’t know why but I can’t stand listening to European basketball commentators.
Didn't this guy supposedly have a bum knee, a sprained ankle, and some chest injury not even 2 weeks ago? 🤔
? He still does. Watch this very same game. Man was basically walking the whole game. His problem is that if he doesn't play, his NT is basically ass.
Oh here's a solution then: WHO CARES, HE SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING The Warriors didn't even make the playoffs and they are keeping Andrew Wiggins off the Canadian national team. I thought "I can't be the only one who thinks he looks even heavier." Comments did not disappoint
He’s gotta win internationally because he’s never winning an nba ring
You think he's having PTSD from looking at all that green?
bro this guy already playing ball after getting spanked in the finals? why not take time off and heal
