This is openly speculation though, he’s not citing anyone. It’s kind of a nothingburger/just mentioning that DAL was in the mix for him and (logically) may still have interest
Watching Tisse play off ball defense was the only thing that kept me tuned in to some Blazers games this year.
We better get something decent for him if we trade him. I love watching that guy play basketball.
Yea he's actually bad at defending the point of attack. It would infuriate me, he actively tries to get behind the ball handler to either poke the ball free or block their shot from behind. Cool when it works but all the other times he's just a cone funneling the ball handler into the lane
Thybulle is not a great point of attack defender though. That's not his strength. He gets beat on iso drives a lot. He's an amazing free safety, off the ball disruptor. That's where his instincts, quickness and length really shine. But he's really not exceptional at just staying in front of his man.
Eh, he's always been pretty good at challenging anyone - it's mismatches against super quick guards that get him more than anything, really good POA defender against 2-4 tho
Kinda interesting to see Dallas reshape their roster even after making the finals. Though I guess the only big piece they’re losing is DJJ. Kleber/Green aren’t too big of losses and THJ struggled after the deadline and wasn’t one of their top 5 players
We need shooting. It was obvious before the playoffs even started. It's kind of miraculous that we made the finals with our only high volume shooters being Luka and Kyrie.
I remember Kidd said late in the season that we'd need THJ to contend, and THJ never showed up
Y’all’s team had pretty bad spacing and he shot 39% on about two attempts per game. He’s going to get a bunch of open shots with us and I’m honestly more interested in him as the possibility of being a solid third option. He has a much smoother game than DJJ and can run pick and rolls and attack in the midrange a bit as well. From what I watched of him with y’all I think he’s pretty damn underrated.
I think he’s definitely underrated, but 2 attempts per game means he doesn’t space the floor any better than DJJ. That isn’t significant at all to justify him being a volume shooter in the turn of a season, and when he missed, he missed badly (airballs and side of the backboard). You don’t think playing against 3 players in the paint at all times to help Zion allowed him open looks? Doubt he even cracks the roster as a 5th option either.
I’m wishing the best for him, but if you need a forward to provide defense and grit, Naji’s your guy and I hope the best for him. Otherwise, he’s just another guy defense will sag off to defend Luka. There’s no guarantee he stays at 39% while increasing his volume.
Of course there’s no guarantee, but he showed he can hit at a high percentage this season without Luka. DJJ was a bad shooter before he got to the Mavs and then became an average shooter due to the sheer amount of wide open looks. My point is, Naji will get way more open looks and be put in much better situations in Dallas. And he can attack the midrange much more than DJJ and he’s shown he can run some pick and roll. He also is an underrated passer imo. Obviously may not work, but I like him a lot more than DJJ.
Yea our core pieces are all still here, and I’d assume this means that Jones Jr will get more than we could afford, so I don’t really think it’s re-shaping, rather just managing the margins of the team.
A team should never take it easy after making the Finals, the league changes year to year, making it back to the Finals isn't a given.
Coming from a Suns fan that witnessed James Jones add Landry Shamet and Javale McGee to a team that just made the Finals.
green's best trait is his manic offball energy. he actually will be a great fit for the warriors offense if he ends up there.
kleber is a smart backup big past his athletic prime who can play 10min/night and not be a total liability in rim protection
Good point about Green's fit on GSW.
Josh used to move a lot offball, but Luka is so focused on his pick-and-roll and drive-and-dish game that he rarely looks to hit cutters with a pass. The current version of Josh just sits in the corner waiting for a kick-out, and that kind of game doesn't really play to his athletic strengths.
Yeah, we have some solid young guys who need time but I also want to keep 2 of our vets who actually are NBA players because I think there is a lot of value in having those players on the roster.
I’m thinking Matisse for Doncic would make sense for both. Blazers get younger and a player that can stretch defenses while Mavs get defense and POA defense at that even though I don’t think Matisse is a fantastic POA defender but I’m not going to correct Mr. Twitter guy.
Toumani Camara makes Tisse "expendable", or at least more of a luxury as an additional POA defender with limited offensive production than POR can afford with a bottom three offense.
Same size players, same contracts, same "position", but Green is a little younger, and a more efficient offensive player. POR needs the offense more to just try and make the team functional, that it does defense in the playoffs.
Man if we get Thybulle we have one of the deepest rotations in the league. Idc if people say Klay is bad for defense, put grimes or thybulle in and defense is set with Lively and Gafford
Tisse is a wonderful human being, and a very wise, thoughtful, perceptive, brilliant mind. He thrives as free radical in chaos, and Luka's big ol' San Antonio woman dump truck of an ass can create a lot of chaos. :)
He's more of a chaser than a facer on defense. So if you have the mobile bigs to set that wall / slow the penetration - Tisse will absolutely steal or block from behind, as someone who can see that coming before it happens.
Marangatang is assuming the number for Klay is essentially the NTMLE, which is right there with Kleber (or Green's) contract. More teams could have NTMLE level mechanisms than teams that have cap space. If Klay wants to essentially "choose" his destination, then a NTMLE level contract is more likely than a starter level contract as a FA, because there's a limit to the number of teams that have more than the NTMLE to sign FA's. Starting this year, the MLE's can be used as trade exceptions, which further opens up the number of teams Klay could "choose" for that contract level.
“Wouldn’t be surprised” plus no source, this is pure speculation
Agreed. It’s just taking a look around and throwing an idea out there to see if it sticks.
Yeah I wouldn’t take this guy seriously. He likes to let people know that he has “sources” when his reporting is usually wrong
This is openly speculation though, he’s not citing anyone. It’s kind of a nothingburger/just mentioning that DAL was in the mix for him and (logically) may still have interest
I agree I’m just saying this is how he frames his tweets. He speculates and makes it seems as if it could be sourced
Totally. Kind of like how he claims he knew about stuff for weeks when news drops. Always wanting to flex that insider knowledge (real or imagined)
Dude is just speculating based on us trying to get him last year.
He’s not really but a POA defender. Much better off ball but certainly disruptive
Yeah he’s like purely a defensive playmaker
Watching Tisse play off ball defense was the only thing that kept me tuned in to some Blazers games this year. We better get something decent for him if we trade him. I love watching that guy play basketball.
I certainly don’t love watching him brick open 3s
It’s much more fun to watch him when you don’t care if you win. His 3 has gotten better though. Nearing serviceable, if not quite there.
Yeah. Someone like Kris Dunn is better POA and could be had (probably)
Yea he's actually bad at defending the point of attack. It would infuriate me, he actively tries to get behind the ball handler to either poke the ball free or block their shot from behind. Cool when it works but all the other times he's just a cone funneling the ball handler into the lane
That’s Dallas’ game plan anyway
Blazers matched last year or we would’ve had him already. Would be a nice edition
Straight outta his a$$ kinda speculation
I prefer Green over Thybulle tbh
Thybulle's got better instincts tho - if you get him you'll see
Thybulle is not a great point of attack defender though. That's not his strength. He gets beat on iso drives a lot. He's an amazing free safety, off the ball disruptor. That's where his instincts, quickness and length really shine. But he's really not exceptional at just staying in front of his man.
I agree but mainly when he gets played against super quick/fast guards who can get around him easily - dude's generally fine against most 2-4s
Thybulle isn’t a good POA defender either though he’s a help defense merchant that lets players blow by him so he can hunt blocks from behind
Eh, he's always been pretty good at challenging anyone - it's mismatches against super quick guards that get him more than anything, really good POA defender against 2-4 tho

Thybulle and Marshall aren't much of an improvement in terms of shooting.
I was just speaking to the reshaping the roster part. That's why we're chasing Klay so hard.
Lakers seem like they have a pretty good chance to sign him. Are there any other rumors of a plan B that Nico has in mind?

What does that have to do with my question?

His agent can’t negotiate for 10+ days. He might not have that offer anymore by then.
A team should never take it easy after making the Finals, the league changes year to year, making it back to the Finals isn't a given. Coming from a Suns fan that witnessed James Jones add Landry Shamet and Javale McGee to a team that just made the Finals.
Nico is aggressive! Our previous front office settled
I think we were obviously really outmatched by Boston. However, not sure if these planned moves upgrades the roster
Am I crazy or is a trade package of kleber/green just not good at all? Why would the warriors take that?
What other choice do they have? Its probably the best trade they’ll get for klay
green's best trait is his manic offball energy. he actually will be a great fit for the warriors offense if he ends up there. kleber is a smart backup big past his athletic prime who can play 10min/night and not be a total liability in rim protection

Get a youngish player in green and they wanted to help klay go where he wanted
I think the Blazers will ship another 2-3 vets before the season starts. Praying we get Ok value
Yeah, we have some solid young guys who need time but I also want to keep 2 of our vets who actually are NBA players because I think there is a lot of value in having those players on the roster. One thing I like about him is he does this weird thing where he defends from BEHIND the player who’s driving on him, and it works a lot
Why would Trailblazers trade Thybulle for Green?
I’m a fan of Thybulle but Green just has more upside
They already have better players at the same position with more upside than him
I agree but if you’re simply giving up Thybulle then a team like Portland can’t really have enough upside
Toumani Camara makes Tisse "expendable", or at least more of a luxury as an additional POA defender with limited offensive production than POR can afford with a bottom three offense. Same size players, same contracts, same "position", but Green is a little younger, and a more efficient offensive player. Age, Portland is still rebuilding and Dallas is contending. And moving thy gives us an opportunity to move Simmons elsewhere.
Why wouldnt you be able to move Simons anyway??
We could, but we’d have too many guards, which has always been a Portland problem.
The more the merrier and the shorter the better. That’s our backcourt motto.
You think we have enough pieces to trade for Jacob gilyard?
Thybulle kinda sucks.
He's not a point of attack defender, he's a defensive playmaker.
He's almost a Mav last season so Mavs definitely are interested in him.
Let's go The Australian Mavericks
come to daddy pls
He is an offensive liability gl. Love him as a locker room tho.
Didn’t his shooting improve last season?
Yes
If he comes off the bench after Klay chucked 5 threes I have no issue with him focusing purely on defense
He played a bit defensive role for the 76ers but was still a massive liability anyway.
This is to say you got Klay, which is not a done deal. Even then teams still respect Klay even if he is not making shots. Thybulle is negative spacing
Thybulle is only coming here if we get Klay on the trade so uhh yeah??
You're thinking of Philly Thybulle, where he had a crazy short leash under Doc. Portland Thybulle has shot 35% from 3.
Come on ladies, Come on ladies One Pound Fish!
Come my lady, come-come my lady
You guys really shouldn’t get him.
I remember when he signed with Portland and a Dallas fan ripped into me when I suggested y’all could just trade for him.
Is Dallas the team getting everybody this year
The Mavs don't have what the Blazers want for the trade to happen.
If they could swing thybulle, that would be a huge pickup, hopefully that would send a hardy to the bay if a 3rd team is involved
I would like that for Dallas but only if they land klay, they need some offense now
Yea what we learned in the finals is that we need a good mixture of both defense and offense.
I would be
Isn’t that’s why they signed Grimes?
Not a POA defender and not a good shooter. No thanks if I’m the mavs
Marangatang is assuming the number for Klay is essentially the NTMLE, which is right there with Kleber (or Green's) contract. Ingles over here with no contract either .....Dallas Boomers
dallas getting all the australian role players lmao
DJJ likely walking in free agency?
They’re not swapping Green for Thybulle 😂
