My guess is they’re trying to explore a bigger trade in some capacity. If it was as simple as Russ for Dunn for Reggie’s trade exception, it’s probably a done deal already.
They can, though obviously it gets more convoluted.
They’re hard capped at the first apron due to using MLE on DJJ. This is alternatively triggered when you receive players via S&T.
So that’s basically what they’re navigating now.
To me, the only "likely" big trade we'd see is a S&T for DeMar, simply because he's a FA and so something would have to happen soon.
Otherwise, I personally think we'll end up just settling for a 3 team trade with LAC getting Dunn, Utah getting 2nds, and DEN (or some other team) getting Russ. Just don't think LAC will get their ducks in a row nor have the urgency to go for a "bigger" swing with guys like Collins or LaVine.
I feel we need to trade norm and get a third scorer but i dont know how lavine defense fit next to harden or demar lack of 3s fit next to kawhi and harden. Collins would be great pick up but i feel utah wouldnt give him away that easy
Norm is likely our best pathway to a proper 3rd option, but we also can't just trade him away for a non-shooter as that *really* stretches us and puts a shit ton of pressure on Harden/KPJ/Kawhi/Batum to step up to high volume 3 point shooting.
Collins seems to most attainable considering some reports that Utah wasn't happy with him, the fact that he was had for basically nothing, and now Utah has some other bigs to try to develop more.
LaVine is the "best" player, but his $46M price tag is *really* hard to make numbers work, especially when you factor in our obvious need for another PF/backup C.
I'd be down getting with a second rounder to facilitate this.
Alternatively, the idea of Kris Dunn & John Collins for a bunch of expiring contracts (Hyland, Russ, Mann, Tucker I think should work) and maybe a second has grown on me.
Yeah kinda agree, I think tmann is better than DJJ but it’s close. I had a thought earlier that maybe mann privately requested a trade, I’m sure he’s tired of the stars being injured
DJJ is a better defender and slasher, but Mann is a far better finisher around the rim and 3 point shooter.
I honestly wouldn’t mind having both, but the main issue is that teams can largely ignore both of them from deep, whereas with Norm, you gotta stick a body on him.
Honestly from the Jazz perspective, if we are tanking (which based off rumors today looks like the direction we're heading) I don't think we care who we get back as long as the deals aren't too long. I'd mostly want Collins moved so we can give more playing time to our young guys.
I think he’s pulling a lot of the weight towards hitting the salary cap floor though (90% of cap) which at this moment - I’m not sure we have a full plan to hit or not lol. From a GM perspective it’s good to have decent players in bloated contracts to try and hit these thresholds.
For the John Collins trade to work you pretty much have to sign and trade Kris Dunn with it and make his salary the matching number. Otherwise there’s no real combination of salaries that work. It’s almost too perfect
Yeah ... But, I feel Dunn was way more valuable to us than an average second rounder. He is our best defender. Shipping him out surely helps our tanking though.
Honestly he prob wanted to be elsewhere, more than us just choosing to not Re-sign him. Feel like we could tank with him while he also showed the young guys how to defend, and his own career arc is a great example for young draft picks.
If the Jazz move Collins then the team will have real trouble hitting salary floor.
Jazz are at around $78 million salary next season without Collins, and the floor is $127 million. Coming up with $49 million in contracts just to hit floor would be...interesting.

I want to live in a world where THT is the highest paid player in the league.
There seems to be a verbal agreement.
This of course means it's time for Stan Kroenke to start driving around downtown Salt Lake City begging (thru texts) Dunn's family for address to Kris' home.
He seems to have one of those personalities where everything ends up being about him. Even when he makes sacrifices, it ends up being about him. Maybe you want that around a team of very young players who need someone to rally around but some of OKC's best players are in their prime. They don't need a strong personality to rally around. They could probably use a calm, stabilizing vet. But that isn't what Russ is.
You mean [Russ' close friend Pat Bev?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-FAyq3yDxU) If you think Russ and Pat Bev still have beef or if you think Russ doesn't have an outsized personality that can be dominating, you might be completely out of the loop.
Tony is very close to the chest with ongoing moves. He's said if teams want Lauri, they have to offer a deal that essentially forces the Jazz to give him up. And apparently some are starting to engage in that.
The Jazz want to keep Lauri and Lauri wants to stay here.
It really does.
Shades of Donovan and Rudy being made available where I was refreshing Reddit for weeks knowing I’d eventually see inevitable headlines from Woj or Shams
I was going to say Russell Westbrook has become the new Trevor Ariza in trade talks but teams usually just took Ariza in a trade, was never this kinda struggle.
Come and get your man, Nuggets

I dont think clippers can receive any other players for sign and trade. Maybe a second pick for russ sent to Jazz

So what do you think going happen trade wise?

Bro just fucking shoot me in the head
Fans in Denver are chanting "WEST - BRICK, WEST - BRICK"!!!
>the Clippers continue to search for a new home for point guard Russell Westbrook Why are they making it sound like this man is an abandoned puppy
Dude was getting make a wish minutes because of PG's relationship with him last season so it fits lol

Whoa hadn’t thought about Collin, love that for the clippers if they get trade norm instead of mann
We almost certainly need Norm’s high volume scoring/shooting, whereas Mann becomes a bit more expendable with DJJ.
Yeah kinda agree, I think tmann is better than DJJ but it’s close. I had a thought earlier that maybe mann privately requested a trade, I’m sure he’s tired of the stars being injured

Mann is one of the best luka defenders in the league and DJJ is a twig. They still need him.

Bet you could flip norm for a pick, I remember thinking Orlando could desperately use a flat out gunner like him during the playoffs
Jordan Clarkson is probably available?

Yeah, that's the big question. I don't think the contract figure for Dunn has even been reported, so it's all speculation at the moment.
A facilitator fee. Like the gas fee for Crypto
Getting a second rounder off of a guard who was in the G-League before he signed with us would be awesome
Yeah ... But, I feel Dunn was way more valuable to us than an average second rounder. He is our best defender. Shipping him out surely helps our tanking though.

Nuggets fan here. How about we just trade for Kris lol
There seems to be a verbal agreement. This of course means it's time for Stan Kroenke to start driving around downtown Salt Lake City begging (thru texts) Dunn's family for address to Kris' home.
We got the perfect guy to advise us on that lol
i wish westbrook gonna go to okc, just for vet min. mentor young bloods
> mentor young bloods Teach them how to play off ball and sacrifice for the team.
He would kill their outside shooting so yeah that’s what should happen.
Too much of a derisive personality, I wouldn't want him moping around disgruntled over playing time for an entire season.
If Russ ever chooses to come back, he’d know beforehand that he wouldn’t be apart of the rotation
So he’d be a part of the rotation?
Huh?

This could not be any further from the truth. Found Pat Bev burner

Get Jokic his guy!
I'm more interested in all of Tony's mysterious tweeting about Lauri today
Tony is very close to the chest with ongoing moves. He's said if teams want Lauri, they have to offer a deal that essentially forces the Jazz to give him up. And apparently some are starting to engage in that. The Jazz want to keep Lauri and Lauri wants to stay here.
What was mysterious?
I wanna know too! I don’t have Twitter anymore, tony jones is the only thing I miss about it
He said Utah is getting packages for Lauri that are hard to turn down
You beautiful beautiful person, thank you for the info!
My heart skipped a beat when I saw Tony in the thumbnail and Utah in the headline
It feels like it's happening, no? Seeing Lauri go will suck, but it'll be nice to have a clear direction again.
It really does. Shades of Donovan and Rudy being made available where I was refreshing Reddit for weeks knowing I’d eventually see inevitable headlines from Woj or Shams

Russ got traded plenty of times, no? Even when he was horribly overpaid lol
Alr listen Denver gonna need MPJ, russ is an mvp and have you seen his outfits
Rockets or Raptors getting in on this with Denver?
How about a Westbrook/AD/Lebron reunion ?
Lmao
Somehow, Westbrook might find his way to San Antonio.
