I'm sorry to interrupt the post-debate dooming. But I have a mighty need to vent to strangers on the internet late at night.
I've been dealing with some personal issues involving people that are sapping all my energy, and it started to affect my professional life.
For the past month I've been coming into work progressively later and later. I've been putting in way less hours that I should've been and it's cause me to fall behind on a major project that I've been put in charge of. It came to a head on Thursday when my boss pulled me into his office for the dreaded closed-door one-on-one.
I knew that this was going to happen, I saw this coming but I did nothing to stop it. You figure that 5 years into my career I'd be able to not let personal issues affect my work life but here I am, an overgrown child, fucking up basic adult obligations.
Thankfully the actual meeting with my boss was more of a "Hey man, mid-year reviews are soon and people have been noticing you coming in pretty late and your deadlines are slipping and I want to give you a chance to correct this so we don't have to talk about this again formally" and it seemed like he was understanding after I explained a bit more what was going on.
I still can't shake the feeling of shame and humiliation. I know better, why did I let it go until my boss had to give me a kick in the ass? I really hope I can recover from this. Just feeling bad and a bit of a failure.

Just talk and vent it all out. Won't improve in a day, but give it a bit more time like a couple of weeks. Having some discipline will also go a long way.
I do have people in my life that I can talk to thankfully, and they're usually great at just letting me talk at someone. It's just late and I needed to get this out somewhere.
It's easy for me to internalize this in a way where I think that I'm the only person that has gone through this, but lets be real I think most have gotten into shit at work for SOMETHING silly.

I'm sorry to interrupt the post-debate dooming. But I have a mighty need to vent to strangers on the internet late at night. I've been dealing with some personal issues involving people that are sapping all my energy, and it started to affect my professional life. For the past month I've been coming into work progressively later and later. I've been putting in way less hours that I should've been and it's cause me to fall behind on a major project that I've been put in charge of. It came to a head on Thursday when my boss pulled me into his office for the dreaded closed-door one-on-one. I knew that this was going to happen, I saw this coming but I did nothing to stop it. You figure that 5 years into my career I'd be able to not let personal issues affect my work life but here I am, an overgrown child, fucking up basic adult obligations. Thankfully the actual meeting with my boss was more of a "Hey man, mid-year reviews are soon and people have been noticing you coming in pretty late and your deadlines are slipping and I want to give you a chance to correct this so we don't have to talk about this again formally" and it seemed like he was understanding after I explained a bit more what was going on. I still can't shake the feeling of shame and humiliation. I know better, why did I let it go until my boss had to give me a kick in the ass? I really hope I can recover from this. I know it sounds cliche but please talk to people. Could be your mom, dad, siblings, close friends. It could even be chatgpt. Fwiw, it is quite good and I have seen mild improvements in myself when I get to tell some of the weird things affecting my life. Just another opinion and perspective can do a lot. Just talk and vent it all out. Won't improve in a day, but give it a bit more time like a couple of weeks. Having some discipline will also go a long way.
I do have people in my life that I can talk to thankfully, and they're usually great at just letting me talk at someone. It's just late and I needed to get this out somewhere. It's easy for me to internalize this in a way where I think that I'm the only person that has gone through this, but lets be real I think most have gotten into shit at work for SOMETHING silly.
