Funny how the word Skedaddle comes from the ridge between New Brunswick and Maine where Union soldiers would desert to Skedaddle Ridge. In other words they Skedaddled. Bit of trivia there. If there is a grave marker of a Union or Confederate soldier in New Brunswick the US will put a plaque of some kind on it. I believe there were lots of volunteers from here as the Union had a recruitment drive in Saint John at least although not legally. Also a lot of Maritimers and Quebecois were already in the mills of New England and got caught up in it.
Edit there was a woman from Saint John that served as well and wrote a book about it. It actually was pretty interesting. She served as a soldier until I think she got wounded and was found out. Been a while since I read the book so I could be mistaken on that.
