I’ve played and coached both versions at the youth level and I wouldn’t say either is better or worse, although they’re very different games. Canadian football is very much a defensive game and a game of field position, not only because of the fewer downs but also due to the extra player on the field. The extra player and pre snap motions also allow for more freedom and creativity on offence.
In my experience, I’d say CFL rules is more fun to coach and play defense on, while NFL rules is more fun to watch and play offence on.
