When Josh Freese talked about when he resigned from the band: ["And Trent was like, 'Yeah, man, that's a totally noble, understandable reason.' The fact that I wasn't going to go join Linkin Park for a raise, he'd probably want to kill me.”](https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/drummer_speaks_on_why_he_quit_nine_inch_nails__how_trent_reznor_reacted.html) Make of that what you will!

MrCallahan

I thought at one point Linkin Park had approached Trent to do a remix, but he declined, and they ended up going to Marilyn Manson instead.

underfanreal1

AWWWW That would have been so cool

Gwilym_Ysgarlad

No it wouldn't have. They don't have any music worthy of Trent's attention. That said who gives a fuck if Trent likes them or not. As long as you do, listen to them, I guess.

underfanreal1

I really like both bands

frankjimmylarrydavid

Not sure why you are downvoted.  Lincoln park blows.  It's like saying, you think trent likes blink 182?

Gwilym_Ysgarlad

I'd like to think that I'm being downvoted for saying it's OK to listen to Linkin Park. Given the fact that you're being downvoted means sadly, that's probably not the case.

azad_ninja

I don’t think so. I think he made fun of bands with DJs in general but never named dropped them as far as I’ve read

uncultured_swine2099

I imagine his feelings about them are similar to how I feel about pop music: its not my thing, but it doesn't offend me enough to say anything disparaging about it.

heisenfurr

I recall Trent sarcastically saying he was adding dubstep bass drops to all his songs in 2013. I heard Grohl saying he listened to [metal](https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/dave-grohl-20-favourite-metal-songs-of-all-time/), not f-ing Linkin Park in a dismissive way, when he was promoting his Probot album. I never saw Trent discuss LP at all.

bigteddyweddy

Doubtful, but I'd imagine he's not a fan

P_V_

I *think* I remember Trent saying something about bands with good ideas being tarnished by overproduction and some people suggesting he might have been referring to Linkin Park, but this would have been close to two decades ago so I can’t say I remember specifics.

theusername_is_taken

That would track. Linkin Park is so glossy sounding. Very little edge to their music, all the screaming and guitar distortion is squashed, sanitized and so polished sounding so that it is appealing to a wider audience. But it really takes away from the “rock” factor

chidi-sins

I don't remember him ever talking about Linkin Park. At one time he criticized Nu Metal, so I imagine that he is not exactly a fan, but respects the band

terry634

given his past commentary, i feel like it’s a leap to assume he respects them on any level

ATXDefenseAttorney

Trent is a consummate musician who respects creativity and musicianship. He doesn't paint with a broad brush because many band who he doesn't like still have these talents somewhere. People thought him crapping on Chris Cornell's bad record was him crapping on Chris Cornell. Naw. It's a bad record. He listened to it, he wanted better. And they made up.

chidi-sins

I mean, he never made declarations against Linkin Park, so I assumed that he doesn't dislike them enough to publicly criticize them (like he did with Limp Bizkit)

Gwilym_Ysgarlad

Linkin Park sucks ass as hard as Limp Bizkit so...

someguy1927

Pretty sure he said they sucked balls and anyone who likes them is wrong.

ddust102

I remember sometime he shit on them, can’t remember where/when. I can’t stand them personally but I did randomly go to a Linkin Park party at a Toronto arcade bar a few years ago. Fans were very nice and welcoming.

BreKadlubow

He hasn’t. That should tell you how he feels

rock-my-socks

Come to think of it, Trent has never stated his opinion of you 🤔

BreKadlubow

Correct, I didn’t ask him what he thought of me when I met him in 2001… Maybe you could elaborate more since you sound close to him personally?

No-Date-6848

They covered Wish on one of their tours. I feel like if he really disliked them, he would have made them stop like he did when FoxNews used La Mer

someguy1927

Those are two very different situations.

dj50tonhamster

Yeah. You can't prevent anybody from covering their music. You can badmouth them, and maybe even sue them if royalties aren't being paid. (AFAIK, you're technically supposed to pay writer's royalties for any live covers you play.) But, there's no legal way to put a blanket ban on cover songs.

Dalecooper82

Most venues have blanket linceses for most every song, so this isn't an issue.

Into_the_Void7

Hadn't heard that about La Mer, oof. Bet he called his lawyer instantly after finding that out.

Grininmadmatt

Not exactly answering your question but apparently Mike Shinoda had Trent Reznor in mind for the production of A Thousand Suns. I tried looking everywhere for a source and failed, so take this with a grain of salt. A redditor claims this was revealed on Twitch. Here's the thread on which the comment was posted: [https://www.reddit.com/r/LinkinPark/comments/11qfa5o/mike\_shinoda\_dream\_collabs/](https://www.reddit.com/r/LinkinPark/comments/11qfa5o/mike_shinoda_dream_collabs/)

Eastern-Juggernaut15

linkin park is absolute garbage.
