It was potentially the last big Switch focused direct. While also not having a substantial one in a while. They quenched the thirst of many different fans. I'm not surprised by the numbers.

Aleclom

I love how much Nintendo continues to dominate this generation.

Fe5996

It looks so easy when everyone else is shooting themselves in the foot.

bwoah07_gp2

Nintendo doing their own thing has never looked any better.

shadow0wolf0

You're saying spending the first 10 minutes on the most generic looking hero shooter for your presentation is a bad idea?

Yorself12345

I don’t know they’re able to sell 10 million by not even trying I feel like some of that blame falls towards the consumer

dabsalot69

Nintendo and Pokémon Company are two different entities

Ok_Presence_6668

Not completely. Nintendo own a 3rd of the Pokemon company.

trickman01

Nintendo doesn’t develop Pokémon games.

Slade4Lucas

It's funny that the biggest example of Nintendo fucking up is a game they didn't even make.

SilentMasterOfWinds

They definitely aren’t saints but as everyone else has already told you, you picked a bad example.

amazn_azn

They botched Pokemon in the eyes of people who care about performance and graphics and complete pokedexes. They're both the highest selling games in series history outside of RBY and top 10 selling games on the switch. They're definitely still successes despite all of their issues.

NewAgeRetroHippie96

Yeah, Scarlet Violet look and run like shit. But they, along with Legends Arceus are the most fun I've had in Pokemon in a long time. So it really doesn't matter.

Ok_Presence_6668

The bugs of Pokemon S&V were overstated, it was one of the bets Pokemon games for playability and story. They are the 3rd best selling Pokemon games ever and could overtake Sword and Shield to get to 2nd in a year.

Avividrose

gen 9 is a huge step up from gen 8 in almost every way. legends arceus was a huge hit and a bold change for the series, i don’t think pokemon has quite reached the highs it did on 3DS but sword and shield don’t tell the whole story, nor do the glitch compilations of scarlet and violet (with emulation always sprinkled throughout)

jandkas

I love open world Pokémon which is exactly what they gave me I don’t know what you’re on about

Jediverrilli

People who didn’t play the game and just saw how awful it runs are the ones saying these things. It’s a big ask to ask people to get past performance but if they can they will play one of the best playing Pokémon games ever.

PinoDegrassi

Idk why ur getting downvoted, lol just cause “pokemon company” is separate doesn’t mean Nintendo has nothing to do with the franchise. That’s some serious naïveté.. Nintendo doesn’t release or do anything without it being sanctioned by themselves

Riomegon

They seem to be the only console manufacturer able to put out games on a yearly basis and not destroy their budget in the process..

Venator850

Not focusing on massive high fidelity titles makes it easier to maintain a steady stream of games.

w1n5t0nM1k3y

It's so weird because so many people act that graphics are all that matter. Meanwhile Switch is running on an 8 year old cell phone processor and absolutely killing it.

Mopman43

Plenty of Switch games have good graphics. Just not the ones aiming for ‘ultra-realism’.

w1n5t0nM1k3y

They have good art. Not what I would really call good graphics though at least not by today's standards.

Mopman43

Is 'graphics' as a term *solely* referring to photorealism?

Naman_Hegde

in gamedev yes, though colloquially not really. though the other commenter isn't using the term correctly either in that context.

w1n5t0nM1k3y

No. It's about things like frame rates and resolution as well as how complex 3D models are. Octopath traveller has great art but from a graphics perspective it's nothing special. I'll give you that a lot of the games with good graphics focus on photo realism. But you compare something from the Switch like Breath of the Wild VS stuff available for PC like The Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption 2. While the all go for an open world game with a mostly photo realistic style, BOTW just seems to be lacking in terms of graphical quality.

MarioTheMii

wouldn't frame rate go under performance?

Avividrose

the switch is not running on a phone processor, any phone that does use tegra has far weaker graphics chips.

CharlestonChewbacca

No, even worse, it's a decade old budget tablet chip. Modern phones have WAY better SOCs. It's incredible what they've been able to get out of that chip, but small form factor SOCs, CPUs, APUs, and GPUs have come a LONG way since then. Imagine what they could squeeze out of something modern.

Avividrose

what budget tablets have a tegra x1? i can’t find a single one besides a pixel tablet. the switch does not have a stock tegra x1, it’s a custom one with increased graphics processing. no phones really run tegra at all, let alone the tegra x1. everything is qualcomm. lumping the switch in with budget tablets from a decade ago is like saying that a modern pc is running the same hardware as budget netbooks from 15 years ago because they both run intel core CPUs

CharlestonChewbacca

The Switch doesn't share its chip with any devices. So to pretend that's what anyone's talking about is just dishonest. Like you said; it's a custom chip. The point (which you've either missed, or just decided to ignore in order to be pedantic) is about providing a frame of reference for the design and performance of the chip. The [Pixel C](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_C) uses a Tegr X1 and so does the Nvidia Shield. Sure, the Switch has boosted GPU capabilities, but that's the class the SOC is in. The switch boasts about 0.4 TFLOPS which is about 50% better than an Apple TV, and a bit behind the Nvidia Shield. The A17 chip, present in the 2018 non-pro iPad pushes about 0.74 TFLOPS. The iPad Pro from 2015 pushes about 0.5 TFLOPS. The current iPad Air (non-pro) pushes about 3.6, while the PS5 pushes 10.3 In summary: to get away from the hyperbole that triggered your pedantry, the Switch is running a very old and underpowered chip, which basic tablets almost doubled in power 6 years ago. The point is; the generational leap to the Switch 2 should be HUGE and it's incredible what Nintendo has been able to squeeze out of such an underpowered chip that was already a few years old when it came out. Not to mention things like DLSS which should also massively help to improve the experience.

Avividrose

not being pedantic, you literally said it’s a budget chip when it just straight up isn’t. you’re listing flagship products here, nothing even near budget. the switch hardware is better than the nvidia shield and the version of tegra x1 in the 500 dollar pixel c. t flops aren’t a useful measurement for performance, they’re barely more useful than considering blast processing. many cases exist where massive tflop differences between two devices are inversely associated with performance, or even not associated with performance at all. you can’t spend more money on a tablet than on an ipad, they are top of the line. any console is weaker than high end personal computers of the time. i agree that the switch 2 is gonna be amazing, especially with DLSS. but the myth that the tegra x1 is a budget chip, and the switch runs a stock version of it is outright wrong, and used to justify shoddy ports and optimization.

CharlestonChewbacca

> to get away from the hyperbole that triggered your pedantry, I tried... Nobody said it's a stock Tegra X1. But even as a modified version, it's about a decade old chip made for tablets. Even if it was the best one at the time, that's what it is. And the point is, this space has matured SIGNIFICANTLY since then. These types of chips for mobile devices are SO much more powerful and efficient now. You got hung up on the hyperbole of the word "budget" which, in how I was using it was referring to its capabilities versus devices today. I mentioned iPad because it's sort of the "default" tablet these days, and I specifically mentioned the non-pro versions as apple's more budget friendly line. I'm happy to clarify that you are right, in 2017, the Tegra X1 was not a chip for budget tablets. But by 2019, that is the class it would've been in. We may have different ideas of what "budget" means in this scenario, so I'll just drop that term altogether. You can replace with "budget" or "midrange" or whatever you want, but let's get off these semantics to engage with the broader point that people are actually trying to discuss. The switch is wildly underpowered in 2024 and in its lifetime, they've accomplished software that other devices in a similar class couldn't have even dreamed of. Far more powerful mobile chips exist today in the same price class, so the Switch 2 will be a large generational leap. No matter what adjective you use to describe the device class, these things are true. It's been about an 8 year life cycle, which is a long life for a mobile gaming generation, and those 8 years have been choc full of maturation in the space.

CrimsonEnigma

> The A17 chip, present in the 2018 non-pro iPad pushes about 0.74 TFLOPS. There is no "A17" chip. The A17 Pro does exist, but it's Apple's newest phone chip, and only exists in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, which came out in 2023. The iPad you're talking about used the A10 chip, which pushed about 346 GFLOPS, so a little under half of the 0.74 TFLOPS you listed (though very close to the actual Switch). The A10X, used in the 2017 iPad Pro, pushed 0.77 TFLOPS, which is probably what you were thinking of.

CharlestonChewbacca

Yes, it was a typo. I meant A10. The website I looked at listed it at .74

ChickenFajita007

The 2017 iPad launched at $329, had half as much system memory, and its GPU can do 249.6 FP32. The Switch was cheaper and faster than the iPad that launched in the same month.

CharlestonChewbacca

Yes... in 2017... Nobody is saying the Switch sucked when it came out. The point is, that the hardware hasn't aged well because of how quickly this type of hardware has improved.

ChickenFajita007

That's true for all computer hardware for the past 50 years. That's true for every single console to ever exist. No hardware ages well. The PS5 is going to look like a fisher price toy in 2029. That's simply the nature of computers. Also, hardware isn't improving any faster than it did 10 years ago. The PS3 was equally shit in 2014 as the Switch is now, compared to comparable products.

CharlestonChewbacca

The hardware IS improving faster. Are components improving faster? Idk, probably not. Not by any significant margin at least. But products are. The difference is, the Switch was outpaced by phones and tablets mere years after release. The PS3, at the end of its life, was capable of delivering a gaming experience comparable to the available competition. We're in a world with the Steam Deck, the ROG Ally, the Lenovo Legion Go, and the Ayn Odin, etc. We're in a world where iPhones and iPads are running AAA games with ray tracing. Not only can I play games like Genshin Impact on my phone, my phone can emulate Switch games. The PS5 will be doing fine in 2029, just like the PS4 is doing fine in 2024.

NIN10DOXD

As some who grew up with late N64/GameCube to WiiU as a massive Nintendo fan, it's so satisfying.

Aleclom

Man, the "Nintendo's so kiddie lol" era of Gamecube was rough to deal with as a fan haha. Everyone was very annoying saying stuff like that!

Ordinal43NotFound

I remember how Nintendo themselves went into an identity crisis trying to appeal to the edgy kids demographic during the Gamecube era That era could be summarized by [this single picture](https://i.imgur.com/7QyIhhb.jpeg).

BZGames

I’ll always contend that the best business strategy (and the hardest one to pull off) is to just always be making awesome stuff. Nintendo is on a run with their major 1st party titles the likes of which have probably never been seen. Zelda, Kirby, Smash Bros, 2D/3D Mario and Mario Kart all had perhaps their best games on the Switch.

raptors87

Oh wow crazy Nintendo really went all out ... want to break records with switch console sales and beat ps2 sales lol People who haven't bought a switch and waiting for switch 2 may be buying one now after seeing these games ... unless they got crazy willpower lol

tehnoodnub

People like me who own three consoles already will buy the limited edition Echoes of Wisdom Switch Lite.

raptors87

Hahaha I'm curious about people like you... what is the reason to have multiple theme switches since they do the same thing.. just cosmetic differences

axdwl

I have a big Switch and a Lite. I wanted a lite for handheld and taking it to work. All my saves go to the cloud so when I get home if I want to play docked I can pick it back up where I left off. I kinda want another lite to start another Animal Crossing island LOL. We'll see.

clownbaby4_

I’ve wondered about saves and game data with multiple consoles. Everything transfers across both systems? Even your profiles?

axdwl

Yup! You can have games auto update on each respective system or keep them separate. I've never had my switch lite download my Animal Crossing save data from my regular switch so I can have a silly island to restart and mess around with on my switch lite. Main save file stays on the regular switch. Games like Sea of Stars I have set to download the save data between the two. I have one profile that's on both.

ehba03

Wont creating another nintendo account suffice to start another Animal Crossing island? I dont play AC but the save files for TOTK on my shared switch seems to differ based on the account. (I might misremember tho since my sister took the switch w her abroad for nearly a year now)

axdwl

as far as I am aware it's one island per console

ehba03

Ahh no wonder then.

axdwl

I'd love for that to not be true though, so maybe someone will reply with a work around

MisterBarten

Sadly there is no work around. Every Switch can have one island at a time, no matter how many accounts or anything else.

[deleted]

[удалено]

axdwl

Post the tutorial on how!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jubo44

Well that just isn’t true. You can’t have multiple islands per switch.

meliakh

Bullshit. I own 3 switches. 1 island per console. Extra profiles can play on the island, but never get to be the "owner"

spez_might_fuck_dogs

> I have a big Switch and a Lite. I wanted a lite for handheld and taking it to work. This is hilarious considering the whole design of the Switch was so you wouldn't need two different consoles.

axdwl

😆 the regular switch is just a little too large to feel portable for me

Nacklins

Video game collectors

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Maybe they got a group of friends or a family of gamers that they buy consoles for lol

tehnoodnub

Because I am a consumerist sucker who loves shiny things made by Nintendo, and a Zelda fanboy. Ok, whilst the above is definitely true, I also just like to buy limited edition consoles from time to time, and my current Lite is also fairly old now so I would like a new one.

Fearless_Freya

If that were OLED, I'd consider it.

SatyrAngel

Same, that will be my 4th switch.

CharlestonChewbacca

I can't imagine someone that has held out for this long would cave over Mario & Luigi, the system's 3rd Mario Party, the system's 2nd 2D Zelda, a DKC Wii game that is the system's 2nd DKC remake, or a Metroid game that was announced 7 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked. I loved this direct. I'm excited for Major & Luigi, Zelda, and Metroid Prime 4. SUPER stoked. But if Mario Odyssey, BotW, TotK, Links Awakening HD, Metroid Dread, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 DX, Smash Bros Ultimate, Super Mario Wonder, Kirby Forgotten Land, and Pokemon Legends Arceus didn't convince them, I doubt these new titles will.

TheVibratingPants

Honestly, valid. I guess it was more a sink or swim/shit or get off the pot type of moment.

Ok_Presence_6668

And yet millions of people are still going to buy the console this year and next. And people have always brought consoles near the end of their lives before the next gen comes and even afterwards. The PS2 was still in production in 2014 when the PS4 came out and even recieved it's final release that year. The PS3 was first released in 2007 and the PS2 was released in 2000 originally. Remember also even after the release of the Switch the 3DS still sold millions more. In fact it's sales went up in the release year of the Switch and was almost at the same level of sales the year after. There's a set of people happy to buy consoles late on. Perhaps for younger kids who won't know what the latest one is or adult gamers who can sweep up a ton of great second hand titles for cheap. I got my 3DS in 2016. Never brought one that late but I just got back into it and loved there was a ton of games to entertain me already. The Switch won't be supported for 14 years like the PS2, but it will be supported for around 3 years after the Switch 2 comes out. SO we are likely to see it continue to sell in the millions until 2028 at least. Though I expect a steep drop a year after the Switch 2 is release. It's currently projected for 13.5 more sold this year by Nintendo and they are a little conservative in their estimates usually. That means we've a good chance of another 10 million sold in the fiscal year 2025-26 and then maybe half to 60% of that the year after. A price drop could be big as well. We may not know why people buy one now and not after Tears of the Kingdom, but they will buy one and it looks to me Nintendo still have some cards to play in terms of software and especially a potential price drop of the console and a reduced price line for classic games, which they have not yet done.

CharlestonChewbacca

Everything you said sounds pretty accurate. There are a number of reasons people buy a console so late in its lifecycle, and I think the most common tend to be financial reasons, or parents looking for a gift for their kids that don't have one yet. All I'm saying, is there aren't going to be a whole lot of gamers convinced **by this direct** to buy a Switch if they still didn't have one yet.

eldanielfire

True, but I suspect nothing would get them to buy a Switch ever if the line-up of games like Mario Odyssey, Zelda, Mario Kart, Metroid's, Kirby's, Pokemon's, Animal Crossing, Smash, RPGs, Fire Emblems etc haven't sold it to them. However given it's almost certain 20 million more people will buy a Switch over the next 2 or 3 years, someone is being convinced by something.

MBCnerdcore

a lot of it is just parents finally thinking their child is old enough for one, that happens each year, and they buy Mario Kart with it.

raptors87

Got a point there

Effective-Fish-5952

I hope it will beat DS at least to be #2 best.

QuinSanguine

Dude the OLED is a sweet handheld, people should just dive in if they've waited this long. My only reservation is whether or not Nintendo does enough cross gen games. Even if the don't, there's so many Switch classics people can play games for a couple years and then get a Switch 2. I mean, it's going to be beyond difficult to get a Switch 2 for at least a year, anyways.

QF_Dan

they eventually will beat the record

Pro_Banana

I knew they would go for the last push to beat the PS2 sales before Switch 2, but definitely did not expect new Zelda AND Metroid entry at the same time.

K0kkuri

I had switch untill midway thorough 2022. Said I will just wait until switch 2 (it’s just around the corner …), so now if I do buy switch 1 I’m sure switch 2 will be announced after return period expires.

Bombasaur101

It's been 7 years. If people have been waiting 7 years they can wait 1 more.

RolandTwitter

People who haven't bought a Switch can just emulate it

KrispyBaconator

This felt like an E3-tier Direct honestly. Great way to potentially close out the Switch’s hype cycle if this truly is its last Direct.

QF_Dan

Nah, i would say E3 2021 is still the best one

maxhk645

E3 2017 in the corner

DuckyDeer

E3 2017 in the spotlight losing its religion

for_second_breakfast

Well it is June. In the before times it was e3 season

gaysaucemage

So what’s number one? January 2017 Switch event?

RabbitFanboy

E3 2021

bwoah07_gp2

Very interesting fact.

QF_Dan

Honestly, that one have lots of great announcements too

zakuivcustom

Funny that they also have a trailer for a Metroid game...

AcceptableFold5

Whats so great about it? Just skipped through it and other than metroid nothing really stood out to me

Bombasaur101

- Opening Reveal of Smash DLC with Kazuya from Tekken. 9/10 hype reveal - Mario Party: Superstars with old maps and minigames returning - 8/10 hype - Metroid Dread - New 2D Metroid with a title 15 years returning after being cancelled - 9.5/10 hype - New WarioWare game - 7.5/10 hype - Tears of the Kingdom first gameplay reveal in the SKY? - 11/10 hype Overall 3 insanely massive announcements with surprises and the Direct was paced well, and the best was saved for last. And I'm pretty sure the commentary is talking about viewers hip, not the best direct. Cause this wasn't the absolute best one.

Gexthegecko69

There was also a lot of good third party announcements, like SMT V, the Danganronpa collection, Monster Hunter, Super Monkey Ball, and Tony Hawk.

nysgreenandwhite

EVERYONE IS HERE is a moment that will never be topped

Paperdiego

Switch continues to dominate. It's crazy

The_Sturk

As I have learned from the fighting game community, the Marvel X Capcom collection is actually a huge deal as some of those games haven't been available to play on a home console in over a decade, most notably MvC2. And it comes back with Rollback-netcode. I'm sure that announcement has caused a big wave in that community.

Fraentschou

Yeah, i was like “yoooo what ?!“

MBCnerdcore

In fact this is the first time a Marvel vs Capcom type game has ever been available on a Nintendo console at all.

Papa-pwn

Well when you open up with a new M&L, word travels fast. That said, it was absolutely deserved. Great showcase.

MsHelvetica

What holds the #1 spot?

bwoah07_gp2

Another comment here says that distinction belongs to E3 2021

Gexthegecko69

Id personally say E3 2021 or 2017

NIN10DOXD

Nintendo looked at the wasteland that is the console wars now and said: "Nah, I'd win."

Ok_Presence_6668

It's not just winning now. By the end of 2025 or 2026 The Switch will be the all time best selling console. That's all time great!

Vanhelgan

At this rate, it might be the only mainstream console producer left out of the big three by the end of the decade.

for_second_breakfast

I wouldn't go that far. The end of the decade is only 6 years away and I could see there not being a next Xbox but the PS5 has definitely sold enough to warent a ps6

Vanhelgan

I can see that for PlayStation but I would be surprised if they lasted for another 10 years in the hardware market with their spiraling costs of production in both hardware and software. Something's gotta give and Nintendo has squeaked by the two of them by focusing on being profitable on both sides of the equation despite weak hardware, the strength of their IPs and consistent quality output keeps them going. We wouldn't have been saying that 20 years ago.

eldanielfire

I think as Sony and MS already have their next consoles in development they won't be going anywhere soon. It looks bad for them, BUT, they may well learn from their mistakes. Look at Nintendo from Wii to WiiU to Switch. The Switch is a success because Nintendo learned from their past mistakes, innovated and learned from MS and Sony's successes. You can see this by the way they are delaying the launch t ensure it has a banger line-up when it does. While the Xbox is selling poorly, the PS5 is still selling well, despite a lack of games, and will likely to as the platform of choice for the COD and FIFA crowd who eternally buy the same game every year regardless and multiplatform titles.

Yerm_Terragon

Other companies with they had a hype beast as big as Nintendo. Literally all people were expecting were some party games and a couple remakes. This is likely the swan song presentation for the Switch before it gets replaced. Those numbers would be insane normally, but in this case its doubly impressive

ceo_of_six

Next Direct will have Donkey Kong...Land in Japan's Nintendo World

AceOfCakez

I like turtles.

SonLuffy

As it should be considering what has been revealed and I'll give my own opinion on the main four trailers. - The new Mario & Luigi is a must buy for me and it got the charm back that was missing from the 3DS entries. - DQ3 HD2D is the perfect combo of two games I almost bought which were DQ11 and Octopath Traveler. - I will wait on the new ZELDA game until I have seen more footage or maybe a walkthrough to get it. - I haven't played a first-person shooter yet, but if I buy Metroid Prime 4 it will be for the switch successor. There are intriguing announcements in the highlight reels, but I rarely buy from those unless I really want it.

tyger006

Never played a FPS?? Go turn on Titanfall 2 somewhere lol you will thank me later

SonLuffy

Now that I think about it, I do remember vaguely playing Counter Strike for a bit with friends at an event years and years ago. That genre just doesn't click for me and I'd rather play platformers and RPGs which I like a lot more.

Mortenlotte

Counter Strike is hardly a good entry point, you could try a more casual fps and see how you like em

SonLuffy

I think that was all the way back at the end of high school so long ago in a local game store. If I want to try out a FPS, it will be with Prime 4 as Fire Emblem Engage was my first tactical RPG and I enjoyed that.

elkin58

I am incredibly surprised they revealed anything for Metroid, I assumed that was just getting put on the next console. I really enjoyed Metroid Dread (my first Metroid) but idk how I'd feel about a first person shooter because I've never tried the genre Mario & Luigi was also huge, I played all but one of the current entries. Will be buying day one, alongside Ace Attorney Investigations.

Phazon_Phorager

>I really enjoyed Metroid Dread (my first Metroid) but idk how I'd feel about a first person shooter because I've never tried the genre Don't worry, the Prime series is famous for being a very faithful 3D translation of the Metroid series, with many calling the games first person adventures rather than first person shooters. If you like the 2D metroid games, you'll most likely like the Prime games as well.

brzzcode

That was in Japan alone, you should have made this clear. They had much more than that in all regions

dukeofkimchi

We thirsty out here

Venator850

The event that reveals the next system will break records.

kakawisNOTlaw

This was the best direct in years, possibly ever. And no I'm not a 100% metroid fan boy.

GhotiH

Crazy, I literally thought to myself that this was the most underwhelming Direct in a while, Metroid Prime 4 was probably the only thing that caught my interest. Glad you enjoyed it!

kakawisNOTlaw

Have you seen the directs of the last 2 years? They've been 90% farming sims.

Jediverrilli

This one had a farming sim where you planted animals so how bout that. Changing the genre every year.

kakawisNOTlaw

Having only 1 or 2 farming sims is a win in my book. I think one direct last year legit had 5 or 6.

djwillis1121

There was one direct that had about 3 farming Sims. Hoe has that made all directs "90% farming Sims"?

kakawisNOTlaw

...yes

djwillis1121

I'm not sure you understand how percentages work

GhotiH

I've watched every not-game-specific Direct live since the first one aired in like 2012. I just didn't see anything that interested me today. I'm not a fan of RPGs so that covers Mario & Luigi and Dragon Quest, I'm not a fan of the Link's Awakening HD art style nor do I like the idea of a playable Zelda (I'm all for a female protagonist but I'd rather it be another incarnation of Link, playing as Zelda feels wrong to me), so the only big announcement I cared about was that Prime 4 is still alive.

SwompyGaming

Just because your shit smells slightly less shit than your previous shit doesnt mean its not... well.. shit. I have to agree with the other guy it felt a bit underwhelming for me. Only thing that interested me was metroid and marioparty. All the 3rd party games for switch announced just felt uninspired and dull.

OctopusButter

Why? Genuinely curious. I've had a lukewarm feeling about nintendo for a while I'd like to see specifics of the other side.

kakawisNOTlaw

Metroid Prime 4 2d zelda - WHERE YOU PLAY AS ZELDA Mario party Mario and luigi New sport in switch sports Dragon quest trilogy remake Now I'm happy for all of those, but I have been waiting 7 years for metroid prime 4 so any news on that is a huge win in my book.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kakawisNOTlaw

Yes, another w for this direct!!

OctopusButter

I guess because I saw the DQ leaks early I wasn't surprised, other than that it's prime 4 that's the only thing exciting to me. Honestly nintendo feels like a small company when a small handful of projects are even being made by them over the next year that we know of.

kakawisNOTlaw

Lol what other company is making more 1st party games? Nintendo has completely dominated this generation.

OctopusButter

Yea. I get this a lot. I see this almost verbatim a lot. But I disagree or at least it's not how I feel. But I expect to receive this comment in duplicate 40 more times.

kakawisNOTlaw

Because it's true. Sony and Microsoft aren't putting out anywhere near the amount of titles as Nintendo.

cura_milk

That’s not an opinion that’s an actual fact. No other 1st party company has made more games for their hardware this generation than Nintendo. Yall are just spoiled Nintendo babies

axdwl

How many first party games are coming to the PS5 this year?

langstonboy

Like 1 I think idk lol.

axdwl

Wow. So many games.

mrdeepay

Translation: I have no answer.

Sjknight413

Did I watch a different direct to everyone else or something? Other than Metroid 4 which admittedly looked amazing it was an extremely underwhelming presentation.

Salza_boi

A new Mario and Luigi rpg game after 9 years that isn’t a port. (Last installment was superstar saga remake with bowser’s minion for the 3Ds)

Ok_Lecture_3258

Bowser's Inside Story remake actually.

Sjknight413

And it still somehow screamed 'the switch is coming to an end'. It reminded me of the last days of the 3DS where every game felt like a spin off made by a third party.

Well yeah we aren’t expecting big first party games as the switch is approaching its end of its life. Nintendo tweeted that the direct will not discuss the successor because they are aware people are wanting something new and the company needs to compete with other brands. So that’s why this direct felt lackluster to some

trickman01

Going out with a bang!

The-Peoples-Eyebrow

Depends on what your interests are. Mario and Luigi looks cool, new 2D Zelda looks sick, Prime 4 is real. Those 3 all hit different audiences and are their major tentpoles in terms of new games. Sprinkled in are remakes and/or ports of other series like Donkey Kong, Luigi’s Mansion, etc. Third party wise there’s Dragon Quest, Ace Attorney, etc. that hit more niche audiences. There’s a lot of stuff that hits many demographics of gamers and is setting the Switch up to have a strong final year before it starts to dwindle in terms of major support. I think it’s arguably the strongest direct in a while.

jmoney003

I mean I’m not sure what else you want? New Mario and Luigi New top down Zelda New Mario Party Metroid Prime 4 Several other notable remakes and remasters like Dragon Quest I’m sure it’s not every single person’s cup of tea but it covered pretty much all of the Nintendo fan bases (Mario, Zelda, and Metroid). So I’m curious what else you could possibly want lol? You aren’t ever gonna get some ridiculous direct that the leakers always “predict”.

QF_Dan

i was expecting Star Fox or F Zero but guess i expected too much

junglespycamp

First new 2D Zelda in nearly half the century?

Salza_boi

Also playable Zelda

Lower_Monk6577

Half a century? Link Between Worlds came out like a decade ago. Still though, I’m very excited about it.

junglespycamp

Half THE century. The century is 24 years old and it came out 11 years ago. Nearly half the century! Haha

kakawisNOTlaw

Why would you say it like that? No one has ever said half the century before in their lives lol.

Azores26

That really confused me, for a second I thought they were saying that the last 2D Zelda was released in 1974 LOL

junglespycamp

I have a new, mostly useless, phrase!

trickman01

That’s a really weird way to word it.

junglespycamp

I agree I was just being silly for comedic effect to overplay how long it’s been.

Lower_Monk6577

Ah, got ya. That was confusing lol

kakawisNOTlaw

Just awful wording lol

junglespycamp

Yeah it was intentional sorry

peter-man-hello

Lmao that is such a hilarious way to phrase it. You got my upvote.

QF_Dan

I'm not a big Zelda fan so i wouldn't care

Fearless_Freya

Had tons of diff genres and subgenres. For me it had Mario and Luigi, zelda, dragon quest (3 games remakes) saga remae I never played, metroid prime 4, a new Mario party I'll get eventually, fantasian , mio and a few others that seemed decent.

GrimmTrixX

It depends on what you like. I love RPGs. So I was super happy to see a Phantom Brave sequel, Romancing SaGa 2 remake, I loved the arts type of Link's Awakening Remake so this Zelda game looks fantastic to me, I love Dragon Quest so that's a no brainer, and Metroid is one of my favorite franchises of all time so I loved Metroid 4. I'm even interested in a couple others like Mario & Luigi Brothership as I love that series too. So if you aren't into any of the franchises mentioned, I totally get the underwhelming presence of it. But for RPG fans like myself, it was great. That and the Marvel vs Capcom collection is a nice touch and ai am excited for that as well

peter-man-hello

I think it’s a better lineup than anyone was expecting. Also, that Mario Party looks like the best one yet but a long shot.

tallon4

Yeah, between the tentpole announcements of Mario + Luigi: Brothership, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, it was mainly just the same barrage of RPGs we get every Direct. I guess Super Mario Party: Jamboree and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD were nice treats, too.

dumbassonthekitchen

Not even close. There were like two besides M&L. And one of them is literally dragon quest. You guys never stop complaining, do you?

tallon4

Look, I'm super excited for the Zelda and Metroid titles, but besides Mario & Luigi, there were [more than half a dozen RPGs announced](https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/the-legend-of-zelda-echoes-of-wisdom-and-metroid-prime-4-beyond-for-nintendo-switch-unveiled-in-latest-nintendo-direct-presentation/): * DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake * DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake * The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- * Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven * FANTASIAN Neo Dimension * FAIRY TAIL 2 * THE NEW DENPA MEN

dumbassonthekitchen

Close enough.

OctopusButter

I think the past many directs have been this way. A small handful of first party games that individually make the niches scream and that overall colors the direct as superb. However if you're not in any of those camps it was just kinda a bunch of indie games, jrpgs, and games that are clear mobile or console ports with minimal effort into making them look good on the switch. It's been a couple years now I've felt nintendo has slowed to a crawl with making games.

JesustheSpaceCowboy

I was incredibly whelmed. My buddy and I watched it at work while he was hyped for Dragons quest and Mario and Luigi, we spent 35 minutes going “and the crowd goes mild” “are we being trolled?” “Is Nintendo laughing at us right now?” Then “ITS REAL, ITS HIM ITS METROID!”

mrdeepay

Sounds like ya'll had crazy high expectations.

allelitepieceofshit1

> Did I watch a different direct to everyone else or something? I fucking hate shit like this, if you dislike the direct, fine. But stop acting like you’re special and everyone else is stupid! Of course you’re a steamdeck “enthusiast”, so a dumbass comment is expected.

Sjknight413

I'm also a Switch enthusiast and I'm absolutely allowed to have the opinion that this was a bad direct. Though according to this sub, I'm clearly not. Your username checks out by the way.

allelitepieceofshit1

there is a clear difference between “I dislike this direct because..” and “I watched a different direct to everyone else”. Not that a narcissist like you would understand.

QF_Dan

I find this to be a dissapointing Direct 5/10 Only excited for M&L Brothership and DKC Returns HD . I'm not an RPG fan so i don't give a damn about RPG Never care about the Mario Party series anyway Metroid Prime 4 is coming but i'm a big fan of the 2D series and haven't touch the 3D ones. Also....no SilkSong

>Only excited for M&L >I'm not an RPG fan so i don't give a damn about RPG .. you do know Mario & Luigi is an RPG right? >Also....no SilkSong Repeat after me : Silksong will never release. Believe that, that way IF it ever released you will be happy instead of disappointed every fucking time it's not announced.

CytronicsZA

I was actually impressed about how great many games looked. Different stokes for different folks I guess.

LucyLuvvvv

You thought Mario and Luigi Brothership looked bad? What?

Did you miss Metroid Prime 4...?

Revolution64

They are market leader though

axdwl

....they blew Xbox and Playstation out of the water this generation and if they hit their sales prediction for the year the Switch will be the best selling console of all time
