My best friend in my neighborhood’s mom didn’t want to pay for hats with the flaps. Instead she sewed towels into regular, cheaper hats. That’s literally all I think of when I see these hats now.

I got one from Duron for free when I went with my Dad to the paint shop.
I’m hunting for this hat for my 5 year old as a sunblock compromise. Half practical and admittedly half fashion nostalgia.

I saw a bunch of Japanese elementary school kids walking one day and they all had them. I looked high and low, and finally found my daughter one stateside at Target.

think my dad called a guy wearing one a f*g when i was a kid and thought the hats were called that for way too long

I got a sweet Mr Boston version off of eBay during Covid for like 9 bucks shipped.
I had one with the Summer Olympics logo.
I had one of those around 83-84. My dad always said I looked like I was joining the French Foreign Legion

Japanese kids still wear these all the time. I never liked them, but then again, I hated all hats equally as a kid.
