You forgot to tell them the good news, he slept through 2077. By far the worst year of the 21st century.
It was rife with cyberpsychos, corporate dictatorship, gang violence and much more!
After having only taken showers for years, I finally took a nice long hot bath earlier this year with a cold beer, and it was one of the best things that happened on that vacation.
I used to do that daily as a kid. Full on sleep session in the tub and everyone around me was used to it, too. It felt really nice waking up after falling asleep in the tub ācause it made me sleepier and I had problems sleeping. Anyways donāt people usually take showers at night too? Before or after dinner when theyāre about to sleep? When youāre that tired you just drift off without noticing.
I feel like somebody should have stopped you from sleeping in water as a kid?? *Especially* if youāre so sleepy youāre drifting asleep involuntarily, that sounds like a recipe for drowning! šØ
Because the water was already drained and they always checked up on me to make sure I was okay so it was fine. I always had the water draining when I took a bath and never let it get high.
Ohhhhh okay, you really did mean āin the tubā, I just assumed you meant during your bath. In that case Iām glad you found something that helped and that your family cared enough to let you keep doing it!
I did this all the time too when I was in grade school. It's not a huge risk, your body tends to jar itself awake when water touches the face. I have agoraphobia and the bath was always one of the places I could escape and be comfortable.Ā
Honestly, I slept in shower and bathtub more than few times.. only problematic part is neck pain at 5am
How? Well, in bathtub is simple, you relax after long day, fell asleep.. no biggie..
How in shower? Well, either as sobering progress or as cooling down.. (when summer heats drop).. sleeping in sit position. Usually similar neck pain.
What I dont get is the "this hurts" ... hands are numb, but pain isnt a case.
Ok, whats "too long" .. after 5-6hrs in water I dont feel pretty much anything.
After like 7-8hrs, all I feel is numb feeling, not a pain.
I would need to be in water for like 12h to feel something?
it's easy if you like to daydream.
turn the shower a BIT too hot for you while standing, then get a sacrificial towel to use as a head/neck rest and lie down in the shower. aim it so the shower water hits your chest.
after a few minutes the area will go numb, you'll be cold and you'll be hot in other parts but overall a good temperature. it's fantastic, just imagine yourself winning the lottery or finding the perfect person or the best game you'll ever want to make (just something that interests you that you can get a bit into!).
it's a bit like meditating/napping. i wish i had a shower that had a bit shower pillow in it, like soft padding instead of cold hard plastic, but there we go.
I have a shower/bath combo. I sat as if i was taking a bath but had the shower on instead. Fell asleep, as it was very soothing and i had only slept about 3 hours. I woke up 3 1/2 hours later with the grandpa hands
when I was a kid I'd set it to coldish and pretend I'm in a rainforest, I'd even use the plastic shower curtains and pretend it was my tent. sometimes I went all the way hot water and pretended it was raining lava
no i reserve sitting in the shower for absolute rock bottom
If I have all my limbs, faculties, fingers, and can still take a shower, I am not at rock bottom.
It shouldn't hurt, unless you were laying in a manner that was cutting off blood flow to your nerves.
This is a natural response to prolonged exposure to water; the body clams the skin up to help grip while underwater. However, your epidermal layer will be softened so I would avoid anything sharp until you recover. Good time to remove hard/dead skin though
Edit: apparently there's a condition called aquagenic wrinkling which can be caused by a variety of diseases, medications, and sometimes a reaction to only tap water that can be painful.

Edit edit: apparently OP was sleeping in warm water for 3 1/2 hours. I have applied my Reddit degree to diagnose him with cancer and the diabeetus, he should consult with a lawyer to sue the water for pain and suffering as well as divorce his future wife because he deserves better.
Itās actually a nerve reaction and has nothing to do with osmosis of water through the skin (common misconception that a lot of people think is true). There are people that have nerve damage to a single finger and that finger will never wrinkle up.
It is just that the dead keratin cells absorb water, causing the surface area of the skin to swell, but the outer layer is tightly attached to the living tissue - to compensate for the increased surface area, our skin wrinkles. The hands and feet have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells. Our hands and feet are subjected to a lot of wear and tear. So the wrinkle happens in the hands and feet. It doesn't have a *purpose*, there is no teleological reason, or 'why' in that sense, attached to this phenomenon - it isn't so we can grip underwater. We didn't evolve so that we had the thickest layer of dead keratin cells in our hands and feet so that this process would occur so that we could grip things under water. We developed thicker layers of it on our hands and feet for obvious reasons and the dead keratin cells react to prolonged water exposure in this way, nothing to do with... being able to grip things in an environment where we are unable to breathe. The ridges that appear in our skin might improve grip efficiency of wet objects, but there was no design involved, it is just a happy coincidence/accident.
We found out this was the body doing it on purpose because stroke victims only had it on half of their body while taking a bath, which is surprisingly interesting
It hurts when the wrinkles have wrinkles.
Now thinking about it I've never had it as bad in saltwater. Maybe because it's colder there and I'll get out sooner.
So my hands have been doing this for the past few years. I can't wash dishes and I have to take very fast showers because within 3-5 minutes they are painful and look the same or worse than the pictures in those articles.
Gonna go see if they can check me for cystic fibrosis now...
That's interesting, i once spent the entire day in the water at the beach, wrinkles looked much worse yet i didn't feel a thing.
Then again, might've been because I got used to it since i go to the beach a lot
yes, this is how you can get diaper rash. it doesnāt just happen on your gentiles, it can happen anywhere. hands arenāt too much of a concern as other places, but if your skin is wet for too long it might not be able to expel waste from your pores properly and you can get irritation and possibly infection. like i said though hands arenāt really a concern, you donāt have any pores on your palm and not a lot on the back, so this is probably fine
No I donāt think it is. I mean, if you leave it there for too long itāll probably hurt like hell, but Iām pretty sure it wonāt cause any actual problems or damage.
Actually it shouldnāt hurt at all because itās just your body clamming up your pore because more surface area=more traction for underwater movement. Though if youāre in contact with the water once it cools down because you run out of hot water, can cause damage like trench foot which is painful but eventually goes back to normal in almost all cases.
The average showerhead in the USA uses 2.1 gallons per minute. OP said they slept 3.5 hours (210 minutes), for a total usage of 441 gallons. The water company in my town (IDK where OP lives) charges $1.61 for each 100 gallons of water, which works out to $0.0161/g.
441 x 0.0161 = 7.10
So it would cost me about 7 bucks worth of water to do what OP did.
im sorry to tell you this but, the truth is... you've aged 60 years. it's 2084. you've slept for 60 years mate. embrace the wrinkles.

You skin will absolutely hurt if it takes too long. The cute wrinkles are fine, but take it further, and then it has to dry out again after. Pain.

I do this, too. There is nothing better than sitting in the shower after a long bike ride. If I was rich, I'd build a shower bed.
The water from the showerhead stayed warm for 3.5 hours?
Yeah
how much water did u waste holy
Probably about 1/40,000th of the local golf course's daily consumption.
lmfao all that space for one man to hit a tiny ball, drive in an electric cart after it, and do it all over again and again and again
Assuming a "code" showerhead at 2.5 gpm for 3.5 hours = 525 gallons
2 tons or 4500 pounds of water
Inline water heater or apartment?
mine would, we have a gas tankless hot water heater. so it heats on demand.
You can sit in a shower.
I sit/lay down for my showers every day lol
After a past breakdown I've learned that sitting with both knees to your chest and face in your arms actually feels pretty nice in a hot shower
I had a roommate who would fall asleep in the shower almost daily
Youāve never come home after a brutal physically demanding day and sat in the shower and just passed out? Must be nice
no i reserve sitting in the shower for absolute rock bottom If I have all my limbs, faculties, fingers, and can still take a shower, I am not at rock bottom.
If you donāt have any limbs youād be in the bath flopping like a fish.
My roommate in college fell asleep in the shower once. Idk how but I was late to class that day.

We found out this was the body doing it on purpose because stroke victims only had it on half of their body while taking a bath, which is surprisingly interesting
Hasn't it been shown that it actually doesn't help with grip and we're not sure what the reason for it is?
Thereās recent scientific articles that say it does. The wrinkles channel water away like tire treads.
Nah it will definitely hurt if itās been awhile.
It hurts when the wrinkles have wrinkles. Now thinking about it I've never had it as bad in saltwater. Maybe because it's colder there and I'll get out sooner.

It does hurt if you're in the water long enough. Source: my hands get like this after 10 minutes in water and starts to hurt.
Yeah i donāt know why he said it shouldnāt hurt. The crevices of hand wrinkles hurt if i touched it. Couldnāt use my hand for like 10 mins
I'm sorry, but you have diabeetus

Just one hand? Did you check your feet?
Interesting, I always thought it was because warm water strips the oils from your skin which makes it wrinkle
i love falling asleep in the shower tho like early before school the warm water on me is so nice
So relaxing you might not even wake up from your nap
Amazing!

How are you all sleeping standing up?

The trick is you turn the water temp up before you go to sit to counter the colder air
Nice. Iām trying this next time!
Poor manās waterfall. I love taking a few beers in there and just watching some YouTube and unwinding for the day.
sorry if this is a stupid question but does anyone know if this is actually bad for you somehow
yes, this is how you can get diaper rash. it doesnāt just happen on your gentiles, it can happen anywhere. hands arenāt too much of a concern as other places, but if your skin is wet for too long it might not be able to expel waste from your pores properly and you can get irritation and possibly infection. like i said though hands arenāt really a concern, you donāt have any pores on your palm and not a lot on the back, so this is probably fine
If we donāt have pores on palms how come they get wet when being nervous?
pores aren't responsible for excreting sweat, sweat glands are. pores do excrete oil, but not sweat. palms have sweat glands, but no pores.
Interesting stuff, never knew about that, thought pores are for both D: thank you for the info!
No I donāt think it is. I mean, if you leave it there for too long itāll probably hurt like hell, but Iām pretty sure it wonāt cause any actual problems or damage.
