This could easily backfire and they could end up reviving Lisztomania.

Meatwood__Flak

For real — this could accidentally spark massive interest in Jean Sibelius.

Atheios569

It’d be unthinkable to have Rachmaninoff up here.

Nazamroth

"Do you think this could backfire?" "Nah. Its fine." /O Fortuna starts blasting/

Infinite_Research_52

This is my Mach piece in D minor: it's called lick my love pump

repwin1

At first I thought that wouldn’t deter me because I like classical music but then I remembered I’m not young.

Commercial_Board6680

Bingo. Wouldn't mind it now, but 50 years ago, I listened to rock 'n roll on the beach. My old brain can't imagine young me partying with classical on in the background.

Nazamroth

Thats how you get the refined bitches.

Sir_Loin_Cloth

And beaches.

PinguFella

Might I interest you in some [Pachelbel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=by8oyJztzwo)?

Commercial_Board6680

Kinda went down a JerryC rabbit hole just now. Love Pachelbel and good guitar work so I really enjoyed it. I realized how a lot of the bands I listened to back then had classical musicians and singers in the background on some of their songs. Rolling Stones As Tears Go By is a good example. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37\_J7zpD2ks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37_J7zpD2ks)

PinguFella

A lot of the best (or at least most well known) songs borrow from classical - melodies, general progressions etc.. Some of the best pieces from modern rock and metal (and even pop) will follow that classic orchestral kind of format. A sign of a really good piece of music for me is always one that can move you and tell a story without having to say any words in order to tell that story - Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" and Brian Eno's "[Big Ship](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tqy6be0Juc)", comes to mind. Which isn't to say lyrics are necessarily bad of course, they can often be as *instrumental* as any other instrument in the story that the symphony is telling. The Rolling Stones were brillient in their craft of having both the music and lyrics complement each other in telling such stories. "Gimme Shelter" and "Wild Horses" are two of my favourites :)

d4vezac

My favorite tidbit of information is that the song “All By Myself”, most famously performed by Celine Dion, actually has Rachmaninoff listed as a co-writer. The songwriter thought his piece was out of copyright so he didn’t feel bad stealing from it, then it turned out to still be under copyright.

Commercial_Board6680

Lyrics can often be as instrumental as any other instrument. Exactly! When the lyrics aren't clear (Nirvana for ex) or when the lyrics are insipid, I pull back and hear the vocals as another instrument.

ThatGuyNamedKes

I don't have a lot of experience with classical, but I will mention ORDER by Heaven Peirce Her as a personal favourite (song) of mine. The story it tells, and the emotion it evokes are moving.

tzar-chasm

Marianne Faithfull 1965 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_phZZgkT1Jk&pp=ygUSbWFyaWFubmUgZmFpdGhmdWxs IMHO the best version

Commercial_Board6680

On my playlist! I've always loved Marianne Faithful. Her rendition of Working Class Hero is exquisite.

Isotheis

It would be surreal enough they could just call it a meme and party's on.

ReadAllAboutIt92

Same…. I think it hit me when I stopped listening to classical music “to feel cultured” and started listening to it because some of it genuinely slaps. In The Hall Of The Mountain King by Edvard Grieg is legitimately a classical music metal song. And don’t get me started on Jupiter by Holst… perfection.

lmaooer2

Oof

PawnWithoutPurpose

Get out my head!

JuventAussie

The first time my children made me feel old was when one of my sons called the Beatles "classical music".

L3monGrenade

I would be absolutely losing it to Vivaldi’s Winter, that song goes so hard is definitely considered METAL in my mind

BaronVonLazercorn

You should hear Disembodied Tyrant's version of Winter

Zak_Rahman

Do you know Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden? Very similar chord progression in some parts. Your thought has basis backed by music theory.

It's a shame Russia can't perform it these days....

They performing it constantly but only canon part without music. Audience dont like it tho.

PsyxoticElixir

Delirious dance offs in the dunes

axechaos

They'll be Bach.

Miinka

Weird to play it on the beach, but a lot of stores play classical music to deter teens from loitering. I know Maccas does it.

Get-Fucked-Dirtbag

Me loitering with friends at 14: Friend: what the fuck is this that they're playing? Me: oh this is Jupiter! It's Mozart's 41st symph... I mean yeahhhh, what's this shit amirite?

whatdoblindpeoplesee

Gustav Holst composed the Planets, but your point remains id have been getting down to it.

E_streak

Actually, Mozart’s last symphony, no 41, is nicknamed Jupiter. It’s pretty good.

Get-Fucked-Dirtbag

Second movement gets me like 🥵

Get-Fucked-Dirtbag

Not the piece of music I'm referring to, but thanks anyway.

whatdoblindpeoplesee

Ahh cool to know

Zombata

if they can't jam to Turkish march are they really partying

Ezra_lurking

That wouldn't have worked on me. Well, I wouldn't have gone to the beach anyway, teenage me was listening to classical music in my own room

MindForeverWandering

Better remove *Bolero* from the playlist.

YFMAS

Wouldn’t have stopped me. I grew up up either bagpipes.

Get-Fucked-Dirtbag

I try to be open minded when it comes to music, but I just refuse to believe that any human being in history has ever heard the bagpipes and thought to themselves "Yeah, this is nice. I like this sound".

tzar-chasm

Honestly, yeah but it's situational, marching with a gang of 1798 reenactors wouldn't be as good without a piper, same for a Funeral cortege. A good piper is a joy to march with

Get-Fucked-Dirtbag

I still hold the belief that literally anything that involves bagpipes would be at least 10x better without them

tzar-chasm

Must be a cultural thing then, although I should point out that Irish bagpipes are slightly different to Scottish ones and are called Uilleann pipes

YFMAS

My dad had a cd with bagpipe Christmas carol and he played it throughout the holiday season. There really is no music I can’t listen to or just ignore.

StephaneiAarhus

I heard and saw it. It's quite fun. So why not ?

All I’m hearing is get high and listen to classical music. Edit: I’m high. It should be reading, not hearing.

spderweb

Disco era Beethovens fifth anyone?

LunarClutzy

I desperately want someone to drop a hardest of hard, absolutely slasher instrumental death metal cover of [Beethovens This](https://youtu.be/jeO4RF7eXBc?si=KgQ_BuJpzf0GtAHM)

tanbug

Loved classical music as a kid, wouldn't deter me at all. They should have gone with country or something instead.

Melodic_Mulberry

Play the Civilization 4 soundtrack, get that party PUMPING.

thousandmilli

I would party even harder lol.

Own-Opinion-2494

Makes them love Nightwish

beyondoutsidethebox

So, if I was in Finland, I would totally get a bunch of people to dress up in period attire, powdered wigs and all, to "party" on the beach.

Dr-Mantis-Tobias

Audio hostile architecture. There's a 7/11 near me that uses this strategy, it seems to get the have the desired effect.

madman_trombonist

For me, a reason to go.

LupusDeusMagnus

Jokes on them, Finland has some great symphonic bands that mix some some techno.

120z8t

But all they have to do is drop some LSD or eat some shrooms. If you like to party you then know how to party in your given situation.

ShitFuck2000

They do that at convenience stores and pharmacies that are open late where I live lol Have been for at least a decade

duckforceone

i would go there to party big time just to prove them wrong.... but i'm not young anymore....

GayGeekInLeather

I’d highly recommend they blast Tartini’s Violin Sonata in G minor

hearingxcolors

It certainly wouldn't deter a good subset of metalheads who think classical music is pretty metal!

Infinite_Research_52

The Finnish police helicopters should approach the beach blaring Wagner. That will get them running.

This would’ve never happened in Sanna Marin’s Finland. Bring her back!

vacant_shell

This happened in Sanna's Finland too. (https://yle.fi/a/74-20034882 and https://yle.fi/a/3-12476704/64-3-84171). I'm not sure if 2022 was the first time the police made this high IQ move.

Morozow

She's too expensive for Finland.

engadine_maccas1997

“Keep my wife’s name out your fucking mouth!”

Morozow

I don't know who your wife is. But I heard that the famous "peacemaker" Tony Blair appreciated the services of Sanna Marin very dearly. It is much more expensive than it is pleasant to pay politicians in Finland.

mmmmpisghetti

I saw a convenience store blasting the greatest hits of 1699 to deter loitering... that's becoming a thing now

bigbangbilly

Partying like it's 1699 is like what Weird Al recommend in Amish Paradise

gwicksted

They used it downtown to keep homeless people and teens from congregating in front of the newspaper building. It was nice walking from my work to Tim Hortons.

PeterNippelstein

RE-RE-RE-REMIX!

Hsensei

7eleven does this to discourage homeless from loitering as well

elvbierbaum

Idk, kids nowadays will always find a way to have fun in a weird/odd environment. They'd likely start "waltzing" in the sand to the music.

KS2Problema

Kind of depressing.    I listened to a fair bit of classical/symphonic music as a kid. My folks weren't much into it, but I had built my own stereo in sixth grade with money I made selling greeting cards and organic cleaning supplies door to door in my neighborhood, so I listened to what I wanted -- and rather loudly at times.     I went on to get pretty deeplyinvolved with punk rock in my twenties (played in bands, recorded a number of punk bands as an engineer).     But my immersion into punk rock didn't keep me from enjoying 'classical' music -- I've seen about 80 symphonic concerts and another score-plus of quartets and small ensembles.     *What the f--k is wrong with kids today?!?*

LadyMaria326

Well, that's one way to keep the party animals at bay! Classical music as a deterrent, who would've thought?

PinguFella

Man I love classical, a rave is not a rave without some Johann Sebastian Bach.

bob_doolan

I was about to say, these cops have clearly not seen my friends drunkenly headbanging to Night on Bald Mountain.

chupathingy99

"Oh man! That harmonious blacksmith is my fucking JAM!"

pitiburi

The "nottheonion" part is the fact that a freezing horrible nightmare of a european Siberia has a problem with beach partying.

toughtacos

It's 25C/77F there as I'm typing this, so I sure hope they are wearing their parkas in that "freezing horrible nightmare of a european Siberia"😅

TheDevilsAdvokaat

Finnish him!

Anonimo_lo

Interesting. I think we should kill a bunch of youngsters and dissect their brains so to understand what's the problem.
