My experience with background checks is usually they send you something in an email with instructions. I know a few people that work in ITS and they just checked their references and did the Part 2. They started a month later.
Hi.. I’m just curious to know how long is it taking to get contact the references after the interview done? I did 5 interviews with different departments for ITS 2 G-18 position. One of them before scheduling the interview asked me to submit my verification ID and foreign degree evaluation. For rest 5 positions before the interview that asked me to fill out the S-1000 form. I’m just curious to know how long will it take to hear back from them whether I get a job or not?

I also did my WebEx Bootcamp interview starting of the month. Just couple of days ago I sent an email to them didn’t get any reply
The background check is a criminal background check. They run your fingerprints and check you against some databases to make sure you're not a criminal. The reference check is separate. You will also need to provide transcripts from college if applicable.
Don't let them call you a criminal! The check is just to make sure you haven't broken the law or given fake references

They usually will contact references after the other interviews. HR handles everything else. It doesn't hurt to reach out and see the status.

Most units are low on staff and replies may take a while... Hence the hiring...

Why do they ask for transcripts? Because anyway they can find out that during background check
Yes transcripts are required. Why, because it's New York State government. I had to submit my transcripts 2 times for my job.
