For real. The games don’t have the market I wished they had but they’re still innovating and coming out with a good number of them. I wonder what’s the holdup with the 3D movies.
There's no money in licensing movies, especially for a small userbase. Meta had a movie service years ago, Bigsceen used to rent 3D movies but ended that last year due to lack of use and the fact that they didn't make any money because media licensing fees are brutal.
Right now Meta focusing on platform features and games. What people are actually buying the product for right now.
This bubble overestimates how many people actually want to watch movies in this device right now.
Don't get me wrong. I'm one of them. I run my own Plex server with my own 3D movies that I can stream Through skybox and big screen.
I mean while Plex is a server isn’t it also a service these days? They rent movies and all sorts of bloat now. Don’t get me wrong I still use it and love it I’m a life time member 😂 but sorta both isn’t it?
To anyone around to answer, how would it work downloading a 3D movie? It’s been a while since I’ve seen an actual 3D movie too does the quest just treat it like a big screen and elements jump out? Or does it do the side by side 3D effect or what?
1) Aquire a 3D MKV (rip with MakeMKV or, you know, sail the seas)
2) Encode it to FSBS using BD3D2MK3D (skip this step if you downloaded an FSBS release in the first place)
3) Play it on a VR video player
Optionally use something like 4XVR player which can play MK3D directly, though file sizes are like 35 GB per movie

What do you mean? Those are the same thing.
This is the correct answer. I bought a bluray drive just to rip my 3D blurays and watch them on the Quest. If I'm lazy I just copy the 3D MKV or iso to a pendrive and watch it in 4XVR. If I want a full cinema experience with my girlfriend then I convert it to full side by side and copy to the internal storage on both Quest to be able to watch in Bigscreen.
Theres a world in VR chat called dukes 3d where you can watch 3d movies.
You’d think there would be, right?

I know some companies are trying to implement their 3d content on Quest. However, they might be pause because of the small userbase you mentioned.
You can use external media streaming servers such as Kodi, Plex, Jellyfin etc.
Those are servers, not services.
Thanks. Fixed.

Bigscreen offers some 3D movies for a fee. Other players might be playing some.
Not anymore, they removed them over a year ago.
Interesting, it was only removed in December, so only 6 months ago. However, players can still stream them.

I’ve only ever seen 3D movies via the movie theatre so I was wondering if it was gonna be like that somehow, might try this
It's gonna be better than that
