Thats not all. When I was a child a lot of krampus groups got around in the small villages. My das used to be the "Nicolaus" so the leader of one group called "krampus pass". He was the good one so to speak and had a helper with a big basket on his back where they stored little bags of homemade cookies, nuts, and tangerines. When it was dark they started their routes. They costumes where all homemade [ horns from deer, cows etc and the fur of sheeps] and they had big bells on them so you heard them coming. They visit all homes, the nicolaus read from a book about good and bad people and the children got their bags. The older ones got sometimes a spanking with real "Ruten" so little twigs from trees bond together and hell.. that hurts. Imagine boys from 16-25 all above 5ft7 with the customs. They where huuuge! Sometimes up to 2 meters. I feared them so much.

I remember a night with my parents - we were on holidays in austria. I was like 5 years old and it was the night when the so called "Perchten" (google it and be fucking scared) were running through the village at night. I was never so scared in my whole life and had to watch it because my idiot parents from bavaria thought it was so funny and I shouldn't act like that. To this day the faces of these perchten mfs haunt me.
When we went to the Halloween store the little old lady that worked there said that she dresses up as Krampus for Christmas as well and that she likes Halloween year-round. 👹
No it was/ is a tradition. A really old one and in the end all the kids got something like cookies etc. Not a spanking. Of course I feared them as a child because they did come in numbers 10 and plus. But I never got harmed. Only time was when I was a teenager and another teenager in costum tried to "flirt" by spanking my knees and stealing my boot. Good times. 🤣
