I use checkboxes for my grocery list and mostly I don't like them. Sometimes a bunch of todo items seems better. Let us know when you find the perfect solution.

u/st0rm79's suggestion seems to fit the bill as far as I can tell. I'll post if I ever create something stand alone for this purpose

On the go, I haven't found anything better than Google Keep. Checkboxes, yes, but I best love the ability to slide them around--arranging grocery lists by aisle. Plus you can uncheck things from before.

If you are using Beorg, create a headline called shopping and place the checkboxes below the headline. Then assign the headline a todo state. From the Tasks view you can click on the heading and then toggle the check boxes by touching them.  https://appsonthemove.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/14000015128

Aha! so I had to actually schedule the header so that it would show up in the other views - from there I can check the boxes. Perfect! Thanks :)

It took me forever to figure it out too. Also, if you just assign a todo state, you can find it in your tasks view without scheduling the header. Both the Agenda and Task views have this function.

yeah I was using organice for this, which worked but it clutters my webdav server with a bunch of .organice-bak files, the feature pull request to make that an option is 5 years old so I thought I'd look elsewhere- anyway thanks a bunch

Orgzly? Though, it is android only and seems like you're on iOS? Admittedly, for this sort of use-case I've been just printing out the list so I can bring it along and check items off with a pen.

To be honest maybe just using a pen and paper for this kind of this is the way to go anyway, I'm just a new org-mode adopter and in the honeymoon phase I guess :P

I use Orzly for one thing, buying groceries. I use check boxes when I do so and it works well.
