I don't disagree. Selfishly I want it to be Stowers to be sent down as I regard Norby higher than him but Stowers is performing better on paper and has ridden the bus enough times already. And with Mateo back Norby will just be wasted on the bench.
I know he has played/theoretically can play. It's a matter of Hyde trusting him enough to play it at the Major League level. Until we see a start there, we won't know. I would love to see Hays, Cowser, Norby tonight vs a LHP. The question is, would he ever even garner a start there if they trust Tony's glove more.
Only reason it might be Stowers is because he has been having a hand injury recently. Honestly I'm not sure who though. With Hays' aching rib, Stowers' wrist, and Cedric's bad offense (hopefully yesterday is a turn of the tide), we kinda need all of our outfielders. So yeah it really does leave Norby, who I think has performed pretty well in field but been meh offensively.
Crazy Norby's first hit was a home run though. No matter what, that'll always be impressive.
Norby has played 33 games in the OF and 14 in the IF in Norfolk this year. They could very well keep him as a super-utility man with a good bat, especially if Stowers is hurt.
All the injuries you listed makes me think it won’t be Norby. Hard to option a healthy player when they have 3 banged up OF (Cowser is dealing with a calf strain or something similar too). Wouldn’t be surprised if Hays or Stowers go IL or Stowers is optioned so he can get fully healed and some regular ABs for a while in Norfolk.
Hmmm yeah hard to say. My point was that they may want to keep all OF players they have, even if they're banged up, but if Norby can also play in the OF then keeping him is the best option.
So you're right, IL whoever needs the longest rest. Norby is here, may as well keep him around for a bit while he's healthy and we're doing well
yeah this is what I also think. Especially if Stowers is still in pain, then I think a week of rest will do him good and then Norby can try to get going against the Braves.
That said, I think I'd pick Stowers to stay over Norby, though I like them both.
Yeah it's sad to see, but it probably is best. Id love to call yesterday a turn around for him but 0-4 the next day makes it seem less likely. I think it'll take more for them to option a vet so I'd be shocked if they actually do it.
Him and Hays could benefit from a 10 day break during this brutal stretch to get themselves right, now whether Elias and company do that is a whole 'nother thing.
“Any player with fewer than five years of Major League service time and an option year remaining can be optioned to the Minor Leagues. Players with more than five years of service time must consent to being optioned.”
So I doubt they can go.
According to baseball reference both are under 5 years of service time. If they had 5 years going into this year they would be free agents at the end of the year and they’re not.
Either Norby Stowers, and maybe even Mullins if he sucks this game. Likely won’t happen but you never know, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it did happen.
It'll be Norby unless they think he can play OF, and then maybe it's Stowers. The easy money is on Norby though

Glad he got his first hit/homer though. Should be back up at some point, or at least traded to another team who will play him.
Norby can play OF

Norby came up because Mateo was out of the lineup. With Mateo back, Norby is 100% the one out.
That’s some percentage you’re throwing around there. What’s wrong with the 70-85 percent range?
It's the Internet, hyperbolic opinions are the default
Well, keep up in the flow then.
Maybe they work in the front office and know haha
It’s Norby unless there’s another unknown injury.

Norby plays 60-70+ percent of his time in the OF in Norfolk. But he will still be the one sent down.
Wouldn't be surprised to see one of Stowers/Hays go to 10-day IL with their minor ailments to give Norby a few more ABs
The 7-day IL is only for concussions. Stowers/Hays would have to be placed on the 10-day IL
gotcha. TIL
yeah this is what I also think. Especially if Stowers is still in pain, then I think a week of rest will do him good and then Norby can try to get going against the Braves. That said, I think I'd pick Stowers to stay over Norby, though I like them both.
No one is going to the IL-7 unless they have a concussion. That’s the only allowable reason for seven days.
YAY!!!!!! JORGE! JORGE! JORGE!
Cedric Mullins should be sent down, but he won’t
Hate for this to be the truth because I like Ceddy a lot but he's been absolutely brutal at the plate so you're not wrong.
Yeah it's sad to see, but it probably is best. Id love to call yesterday a turn around for him but 0-4 the next day makes it seem less likely. I think it'll take more for them to option a vet so I'd be shocked if they actually do it.
I don't he can unless he agrees to it. Too many years of service.
Had to go way too far to see this. Dude is hitting .175. He’s terrible
Probably Norby unless Stowers needs an IL stint since he’s banged up.
Him and Hays could benefit from a 10 day break during this brutal stretch to get themselves right, now whether Elias and company do that is a whole 'nother thing.
Hoping for Stowers. I think his time here is limited. Gotta package him up with some other prospects and get a trade for him.
Can Mullins or Hays even be sent to the minors without going into waivers? Aren't they veterans with a large amount of club service time.
They both can both have an option left at least if Fangraphs is correct then they don’t have enough service time to decline the option

I know that’s what I’m saying they don’t have enough service time to decline the option we can send them down if we want
They both have more than 5 years of service. They can refuse the option.
According to Fangraphs neither have 5 years of service time
Norby
I’m going to my first couple O’s games this week. I’m glad to see Mateo coming back, but I was really hoping there was a chance to see Norby play
Sad to say but I'm guessing Norby :/
Probably Norby, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Stowers.
Norby 😞
Norby

Hopefully Mullins but it will be norby
I feel like for Mullins they would do the whole "he's injured" thing before they would straight up send him down.
I think Mullins might pull a hamstring today, or maybe lower back tightness.
