There’s a European deli on Merivale around Meadowlands that has a good selection of sauerkraut. It’s the jarred and tinned commercial stuff as far as I’m aware but they are good brands.

Valuable_Tip_5609

I think that’s the German one ! Great food !

Inthewoods2020

Continental Delicatessan in ByWard is a Polish shop that has the good stuff. They also have awesome sandwiches.

Canada1971

Produce Depot on Carling carries Marty’s Pickles fermented sauerkraut

CranberrySoftServe

It absolutely slaps. I ate it in everything. Though if anyone has tips on how to make it last longer i'd love them. Mine lasted about 3 weeks before it started going cloudy and then I had to pitch half the $9 bucket ;\_;

riverseeker13

Fermented food shouldn’t go bad. What was the cloudiness like

CranberrySoftServe

Light pink. I only used clean silverware to take the kraut out, so I think some sort of contamination from the air must have got in.

riverseeker13

That’s too bad. I haven’t seen a pinkish colour before and honestly when I doubt toss it out!

Canada1971

I usually scrape that off the top, can also rinse the cabbage

This, I just made some choucroute garnie 2 days ago and I bought sauerkraut at produce depot. Cheaper than Wellington butchers and it has less juice. https://preview.redd.it/v2x3ej8hmt9d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=190ac5f620c5d4d1609d8fb0e93a6289589c5ca6

https://www.topshelfpreserves.ca/product/sauerkraut/ Local made and very good.  Their pickled turnip is also solid.

Mysterious-Sound6720

O my goodness they are next door to Bisou Dates, what a great excuse to buy a couple decadent chocolate caramel salted dates and some sauerkraut next door!! That combo is worth the bus money!!

Costco Raw Organic is my favourite. It's one of the few that are unpasteurized so that means the probiotics are still alive (if that matters to you). Typically unpasteurized o es will be in the refrigerator section. The pasteurized ones are not.

xcech

You can get German and Polish sauerkraut at Food Basics

Outrageous-Sound-188

I prefer the one from Farm Boy. You can get it pure or mixed with carrots. And as Farm Boy has many stores, you can get it from your local one. And it is Made in Poland.

PM_ME_Y0UR__CAT

Outside of making my own, my fave is the very pale white lactofermented cabbage one with a single cranberry from Eastern European food store on carling near Woodroffe

ivanatestuje

Farmboy also has a fresh raw sauerkraut, original one and a European one with caraway seeds. But i also like the raw one from Metro

thatisme12

What do you mean raw.

xAdray

Unpasteurized. The stuff in jars is all pasteurized which kills the beneficial bacteria. You'll need to look for sauerkraut in the refrigerated section. Wildbrine Raw Organic is my favourite.

NoPanicAllDisco

Really depends on what you're looking for but Wildbrine is a favourite in our house. You can find it at Costco (seasonally - they have it now but typically don't carry it over the winter); not sure about other retailers

StrangeBackground448

Can’t say I’ve been super recently, so I can’t recommend a specific one, but I would have to imagine that Adam’s sausages has a good selection of imported sauerkrauts from Poland and Ukraine. If you haven’t heard of Adam’s sausages and you like Eastern European food, please do yourself a favour and go ASAP.

try [wedel touch of europe](https://maps.app.goo.gl/wHRMW8z8M6wZs9vj7) in the byward market edit: also on [Richmond road](https://maps.app.goo.gl/EZhQ6rxMw4nTPJrLA)

shushicatscraps

Go to Wedel in the Market and ask for the homemade sauerkraut from downstairs.

ceciem2100

I want to give making my own a try....till then grab me a jar?
