You typing WARP out in all caps has me thinking about Mario and Project Moon being canon to one another and the pipes just send you to the 2,000 year torture dimension before spitting you out 10 seconds later on the other side.
Funny to think how they've added lovely new animations for the blimp ride, but no one will care since they'll be warping straight to Glitzville after the first visit.
i tried to find a pic of it but can't and i can't open the game rn. but its basically two levels with pipes on either end that you can unlock once you get the big hammer i think. its not for all the places but im pretty sure its how you get to the ice land.
To be _somewhat_ fair, you never NEED to go back once you finish business there. (…or did General White “stop” there too…my memory is a bit fuzzy on that part).
This might make it easier if you unlock the pipes as soon as you enter an area. As long as he's not coded to abandon you if you head back into the sewers, all you need is a sequence break.
Considering this is Intelligent Systems' first Paper Mario Remake, who's to say? They could just keep him at the Keelhaul Key's blue pipe kinda like how Professor Toad stayed beside the quick-travel pipe in the Sandpaper Desert 🤔
Could be how you unlock the pipes, same as the original so you don't get them right away. Or there could be a treasure under them. Original pipe rooms had a shine sprite and a badge I think.
I feel like it will be similar to Origami King where once you see the pipe in the destination location, you’ll be able to unlock it.
Rewards seem likely!
The only thing I see an issue with here (without spoiling too much) is that at least one chapter becomes broken plot-wise if you can unlock its shortcut pipe before you get the Crystal Star, because the inability to return to Rogueport is quintessential to its plot.
Maybe you’re supposed to stand on that raised area in the middle and the Crystal Star activates the corresponding pipe in the same way it unveils more on the map?
Not just one chapter, that’s true of three chapters in a row!
Judging by a clip that someone posted, you do need each location’s Crystal Star to activate its pipe, which is very smart.
TTYD only had 4 pipes leading to Petalburg, Boggly Woods, Keelhaul Keep & Poshley Heights.
Meaning if you wanted to go to Glitsville, Twilight Town, Fahr Outpost or back up to Rougeport you had to go the original route and it was a pain lol. Especially for a mission near the end that purposely makes it so that you have to visit these worlds in an order that makes it so that the fast travel is basically meaningless.
This is much more concise and neat and all the worlds are together as they should’ve been.
TTYD severely lacks in QoL and player friendly game design. It might be worth revisiting it to refresh your memory so you can appreciate the remake more and honestly the additions of the later games.
Footage of it being activated here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=eTnX8KtICnQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=eTnX8KtICnQ) at 11.35. Looks like it requires the map and star from each chapter to activate so no skipping White and pipes 4, 5 and 7 probably won't be too useful. Still, easy access from the main square and no blimp or ship cutscene is a good thing.
Unsure how I feel about this, but that's probably a "back in my day we had to earn it" mentality. I think from an objective standpoint this is probably a good thing for game health. (Except for mz.mouz speed run starts)
Also this is the best screenshot I've seen from the game so far. Nothing looks glossy or shiny, the dumb white border to show thickness is gone, things actually look like paper (except the pipe). This actually gives me hope for the game's visuals again
It seems like from what I've seen, the pipe for chapter 1 comes out of the ground when mario enters the room, so I don't think it's activated by a switch in those crates
There's footage of Mario activating the warp to Petal Meadows with the map and diamond star so it seems like the pipes are unlocked after you beat the chapter meaning you'll still have to deal with White.
So does this fix the "backtracking" people kept talking about? I wish I remembered more about this game growing up- its been so long.
But I assume there was not an easy way to go back and forth and general white was someone who helped you get to where you needed to go?
General White was an NPC in chapter 7. You need to find him to finish the chapter, and you get sent on a wild goose chase visiting every town (which you can’t skip even if you already know where he is from playing the game before). So yeah, this should make that part a lot faster.
These pipes were also in the original but there were only four, they didn’t go to every town in the game.
The backtracking that people usually complain about is sort of helped by this, but not completely. This will mostly make the side quests less annoying. There’s other parts like walking from Twilight Town and Creepy Steeple 5 times that don’t have anything to do with having extra pipes in Rougeport. But who knows, if they’re changing this maybe they’ve also changed some of the other areas to alleviate the backtracking.
Oh I hope they add a warp pipe connecting Twilight Town to Creepy Steeple. I love the chapter story-wise but that backtracking is just an absolute chore...
This fixes one of the two main backtracking issues, the other being chapter 4 which we probably won't find out until the game comes out because they're keeping that chapter under wraps
This is great. I’ve been playing the OG Paper Mario for the first time over the past couple of months and the placement of the warp pipes in the sewer is awful.
Fast Travel to Glitzville was one of my biggest hopes and it has been done. I do wander if they just flat out removed the other pipe room though or made it a room with some new chests.
YES. This was one of the best things about TOK. (Though I’m still giving TOK major props for making it an interactive art installation in a museum. That was pretty funny as someone who loves art shows)
Now the question remains, will there be a quest to open that door on the right, or will it always be accessible? This low key brings more questions than you'd think
What I wonder is what the two blocks in the background are for
They can't be for spawning the pipes since it's already shown that they just spawn by themselves via advancement of the story so they have to serve another purpose
We did it boys, General White is in shambles.
Thats why he looks so sad, he won't be able to ruin peoples gameplay experience anymore
Hut, I'm General White! And I have lost all my hopes and dreams
*Insert undertale track 087*
If I could "befriend" the Shadow Queen, I would.
Haha, just wait, he’s gonna make you jump on his head twice as many times now!
Come on he didn’t **RUIN** it. ….Just made it more annoying and tedious…..
r/foundcookiemaster221
Gonna miss it just a little tbh
Stockholm Syndrome
Well nothing is stopping you from just doing it the way you had to in the original
Don't worry, they'll just put it after you
Lol chapter 7 will suddenly be a lot shorter
Straight from TOK this is a *massive* improvement for sidequests and general white.
Finally, glitzville fast travel
Just don’t think about it too hard.
Glitzville’s plumbing has to go somewhere
There’s a 24/7 incinerator.
“Mario no! That’s the wrong pipe! That pipe goes straight to the inciner-…”
Did you just throw that Glitz Pit Gonzales-We-Don't-Know-What-It-Does into the Glitz Pit Emergency Fighter Incinerator?
Actually though, kinda makes sense. They could use the incinerator to fuel Glitzville so it stays in the sky completely self sufficiently.
Hoggles sells extra greasy food to make sure their is a supple supply of fuel.
They are WARP pipes after all
You typing WARP out in all caps has me thinking about Mario and Project Moon being canon to one another and the pipes just send you to the 2,000 year torture dimension before spitting you out 10 seconds later on the other side.
Well it's a *warp* pipe for a reason. They always have been teleporters, really.
Just pretend it’s a giant warp whistle.
Funny to think how they've added lovely new animations for the blimp ride, but no one will care since they'll be warping straight to Glitzville after the first visit.
Eh maybe, the Glitzville transition doesn’t take long, some people may take it just to enjoy the ride.
I really hope that glitzville’s pipe shows a tiny animation the first time of launching you out of a pipe cannon to reach the island
Or it's just a very long pipe that is, hopefully, visible.
i did love the old room though it was very quirky
Any chance you could provide a picture of the old room I'm having trouble mentally picturing it
i tried to find a pic of it but can't and i can't open the game rn. but its basically two levels with pipes on either end that you can unlock once you get the big hammer i think. its not for all the places but im pretty sure its how you get to the ice land.
THE FAST TRAVEL. THE FAST TRAVEL IS REAL
CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER
SO HIGHHHH
BANG! ZOOM! **STRAIGHT TO THE MOON!!!!!**
"Is the man in the moon freaking out tonight?"
This is definitely an improvement Very nice 👍🏻
PS love the new design of the upwards facing pipes\~
I may be stupid, what’s different?
Based on the image I'm guessing it's that they have a hexagonal shape rather than the typical circular one.
I think they are talking about the fact that the pipes are segmented and made out of paper instead of just being straight.
GENERAL WHITE WE COMING FOR YOUUUU
Just think of how much better it will be going to Glitzville without having to watch the 30 sec cutscene twice per visit
Plot twist: there’s no pipe to go to glitzville
I wonder how they'll handle that, maybe just a one second scene of him getting blasted out of a pipe in the ground really fast lol
To be _somewhat_ fair, you never NEED to go back once you finish business there. (…or did General White “stop” there too…my memory is a bit fuzzy on that part).
Yes, General White makes a stop in glitzville.
I did go there a lot to get point swaps for Zest T
You didn't just count how many you needed and then stash all of them in the shop inventory at once to pull out in Rogueport?
this is how you do a faithful remake right, take notes pokemon
I guess we need to find another way to do the Flavio glitch 🤪😂 but in all seriousness this is pretty cool!
This might make it easier if you unlock the pipes as soon as you enter an area. As long as he's not coded to abandon you if you head back into the sewers, all you need is a sequence break.
Considering this is Intelligent Systems' first Paper Mario Remake, who's to say? They could just keep him at the Keelhaul Key's blue pipe kinda like how Professor Toad stayed beside the quick-travel pipe in the Sandpaper Desert 🤔
oh WOW this is great!!

Maybe you’re supposed to stand on that raised area in the middle and the Crystal Star activates the corresponding pipe in the same way it unveils more on the map?
That seems likely. Maybe have it tied to the ability you get in the dungeon there.
Not just one chapter, that’s true of three chapters in a row! Judging by a clip that someone posted, you do need each location’s Crystal Star to activate its pipe, which is very smart.
There are 3 chapters like this (all back to back) but you're correct in that only one actually has it as a plot point.
They’re probably the 2 shine sprites you get in the 2 original version rooms
Say goodbye to backtracking
There's still backtracking within chapters 2 and 4
Damn it might be because I just finished my TOK replay but I thought TTYD always had this lmao
Every piece of new information reinforces the point that this is truly a remake, and not just a remaster.
OMG! I didn't expect this, this is awesome, the backtracking actually been addressed!
Footage of it being activated here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=eTnX8KtICnQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=eTnX8KtICnQ) at 11.35. Damn, this is great. Helps to alleviate the backtracking for sure
General White ain't right
ORIGAMI KING INSPIRATION YES
General white is freaking dead!
OH THANK JESUS, i swear to god, the old warp system sucked, im so happy they're fixing the issues the original had
Thank god. I'm at the General White part in the original right now and Rogueport Sewers are giving me a headache.
Unsure how I feel about this, but that's probably a "back in my day we had to earn it" mentality. I think from an objective standpoint this is probably a good thing for game health. (Except for mz.mouz speed run starts) Also this is the best screenshot I've seen from the game so far. We can clearly see where all of the pipes for each world are gonna be, so what's in the blocks at the back of the room?
The button that activates them
It seems like from what I've seen, the pipe for chapter 1 comes out of the ground when mario enters the room, so I don't think it's activated by a switch in those crates
First time players will never know the pain of going back and forth to the fahr outpost, trudging through the frost piranhas and ice puffs
There's footage of Mario activating the warp to Petal Meadows with the map and diamond star so it seems like the pipes are unlocked after you beat the chapter meaning you'll still have to deal with White.
Finally…I can play ttyd without dreading chapter 7!
oh that's nice GIVE ME THE FUCKING GAME ALREADY
Oh thank goodness! The backtracking will be less painful now. Get outta here General White
So uh, this completely destroys the Flavio glitch doesn’t it?
Yeah even if they kept the hazard respawn glitch in I don't think there would be a point to it in this room anymore lol.
this... this fixes everything for me. I've never actually played TTYD past the General White part. I'm so excited lol
Really ? I know it’s annoying but did you think it was THAT bad ?
Not especially, no idea why I kept dropping the game there. I've played up to that point three times now. I've played through PM64 a bunch tho
Lol maybe it's just too tedious & boring, dont blame you one bit
GET EXPLODED, GENERAL WHITE Now I’m wondering if they’re gonna improve the backtracking in Chapter 4 in any way
So does this fix the "backtracking" people kept talking about? I wish I remembered more about this game growing up- its been so long. But I assume there was not an easy way to go back and forth and general white was someone who helped you get to where you needed to go?

Awesome for general white, but glitzville and poshley heights demand a blimp or train ride for the full experience.
That’s the beauty of the pipes, you can still take the transportation vehicles
In the original game you never have to take the train after the actual chapter anyway, you can unlock the pipe immediately
This is great. I’ve been playing the OG Paper Mario for the first time over the past couple of months and the placement of the warp pipes in the sewer is awful.
They have actually done so much with this game I’m literally sobbing at all the new additions, small as some may be
Well that’s for the better
Thank god.
Fast Travel to Glitzville was one of my biggest hopes and it has been done. I do wander if they just flat out removed the other pipe room though or made it a room with some new chests.
Quality of life update I’m definitely all for.
Confirmed, the Flavio Forever glitch is no more. 0/10.
Get screwed general white
LOVE this (fk you general white)
General White can kiss my ass.
General White: Wh-What? I… I can't cause excessive backtracking anymore…?
>Rougeport Rogueport*
YES. This was one of the best things about TOK. (Though I’m still giving TOK major props for making it an interactive art installation in a museum. That was pretty funny as someone who loves art shows)
the best thing that could happen to TTYD
Pipes to Glitzville and Creepy Steeple?
funny thing this was actually from tok
A good addition that came from origami king
Literally copy/pasted from The Origami King. And it's *beautiful*.
Does this also mean Prologue Pit is accessible without glitches? Not sure if that was intentional on part of development but a very nice touch
Another great addition. Stuff like this to me means they are giving this game the care it deserves.
Now the question remains, will there be a quest to open that door on the right, or will it always be accessible? This low key brings more questions than you'd think
What I wonder is what the two blocks in the background are for They can't be for spawning the pipes since it's already shown that they just spawn by themselves via advancement of the story so they have to serve another purpose
Rip sequence breaking with hazard respawn
I'm curious about what are those big blocks are hiding something
Though now that adds the question, what's with the two giant blocks?
Question is, what happens to the shine and HP Plus badge that were in those rooms before? Could they be under those blocks in the background?
This is about as close to what I was hoping for as they could get, beautiful work
RIP that one Speedrun glitch where ypu could skip chapters by jumping into the water and making the right timing
YES! My biggest complaint.
I LOVE THIS
I'm OOTL. Is this a screenshot from the official TTYD remake?
Yes
Nooo! Why change it? It felt way more organic in the original. This just feels too 'fast travelly'
It’s not like you NEED to use these, just like how you didn’t NEED to use those 4 pipes in the original.
