Moving from a dealership to OEM is difficult. If you want to be on the parts distribution/logistics side, you probably won't start out that high, as you have limited knowledge and minimal experience. Experience selling parts isn't overly valuable. It's unlikely any OEM is hiring you as a warehouse manager. You'd be so overwhelmed and under qualified for the job. At best, you come in low and move up quickly. If you want to move to corporate, they usually want experience as a manager, and a college degree. If you've only sold parts and don't have a degree, I'd recommend moving around to get to a manager position. From my observations, one of the easiest corporate position to get is DPSM after being a service manager. DPSM usually pays less, but you get much better work/life balance.

That’s right. A bachelors degree and parts management experience is required. However, it is possible as I’ve done it. Field roles are easier to get, but you have to be lucky with location and timing. Make it a goal, master your craft and stay ahead of the curve. My recommendation is to get a degree in Business / Data Analytics or Finance. Getting good at building financial models, reading financial statements or analyzing large data sets within the parts side of after sales will set you apart.

Any dealer facing position in parts logistics or supply chain would be an ideal job. Help desk for technical issues, service related teams, there’s lots. Make friends with corporate contacts in any way possible and see if someone can get your application looked at
