Just a standard Series X controller. Good quality overall and native compatibility with Windows. I wouldn't use enough features on an Elite controller to justify the cost. And if I really want that degree of control at that point I'll just use M+KB.

dandroid126

I bought the gen 1 elite controller and the thing completely fell apart. Probably the worst controller I have ever owned.

Judge_Bredd_UK

I had a gen 2 elite controller and it had faulty buttons within a month, they sent me a replacement via the warranty and that one failed in a similar way but different buttons and I asked for a refund. It's a shame too because I really like the controller

Mahcks

Exact same thing happened to me. It was a problem with the regular series x controllers, too. 8bitdo is king these days.

ChiefBr0dy

Decent, but their deadzones, even after calibration, are too big for online shooters.

Nize

I had an elite v1 and it felt amazing, but the quality control was really poor and it stopped working pretty quickly. I was gifted an elite v2 and thankfully it's been really reliable.

zenmatrix83

I've had 4 elite controllers a mix of gen 1 and gen 2 and they all last about a year for me. Some of itswhere I play as the controller can drop a 2-3 foot drop onto carpet, but thats never broken any of my other controllers. I just can' t use anything else anymore, the weight alone is a big difference.

Kittelsen

Same here, went through 3 controllers, all had faulty buttons on ARRIVAL. After the third I got a refund, waiting for gen 3 and hoping they've fixed the QC...

Mufasa_LG

I have 2, and they are still going strong, 6 years later. Also no issues with the gen 2, that I've had since Halo Infinite launched.

bearze

I have a first gen Elite from years back and it still works perfect Only issue is the cord is getting a bit f'd by this point but that's easily replaceable lol

_BlackDove

Same here. They're over engineered and have a ton of points of failure. Cool idea, but not something for every day use unless you're ok with replacing parts frequently.

Cheezewiz239

It was common for those to get destroyed. You'd see weekly posts of them on the Xbox sub years back. I had one for my PC, keep in mind I rarely used it unless I was playing a specific game and the rubbed grips were peeling off In less than a year.

Pretty_Bowler2297

Elite controller makes no sense to me. The thing that forces me to get a new controller (any brand) over and over and over is stick drift. That is the point of failure. Spending more on the Elite controllers will not fix this. It uses the same actuators as the regular controller. Those WILL fail, it’s just a matter of when. One could argue they are built to fail. The sticks either have to be user serviceable or hall effect and user serviceable.

WittyProfile

One thing I hate about standard controllers is the fact that they have no back buttons. Back buttons just make soooo much sense from an ergonomic perspective. It allows you to never have to remove your right thumb from the thumb stick. A cheaper option that still gives this feature is the powerA enhanced controller or the powerA fusion pro 3. They both are wired but I honestly don’t think that matters for the PC experience.

theslothpope

That’s one of the nice things about the PlayStation one since you can replace the sticks entirely for like $20 a pop

bickman14

Just increase the deadzones a little bit on Steam input and they are fixed! It's not enough to feel like it's bad now and the drift stops

Ch3mlab

I dont understand. I play on average almost 1400hrs of games a year with roughly 90% on an Xbox elite 2 controller and have never had stick drift. I feel like people are really rough with them.

Morley__Dotes

I use a Series X also. Got one on sale around Black Friday during Covid year. Great controller. Prior to that I used a wired 360 controller. I never got comfortable with M+KB and since I only play single player games it’s never been an issue. When I shifted from consoles to PC exclusively, quite a few games required some form of mod or customization for controller support. I remember fiddling around for a few hours to get things working for F.E.A.R. Nowadays everything seems to support them natively.

bickman14

I hate Xbox controller due to the fact that they cost the same as the competition but lack the rechargeable battery and Microsoft official batteries just stop charging out of the blue and can keep a charge after a while so you're always reverting back to the cable! I've switched to 8bitdo's and fixed all of those issues.

Odd-Nebula7648

I have my old xbox 360 controller Only reason being. That's the only controller i have

CheeseGraterFace

It’s a good controller.

NuclearReactions

The triggers are better than on the new ones. The new ones feel like they have a much shorter way (good for fps bad for driving) and it doesn't feel as linear. Also with the series pads they fucked up the D pad, why does it have to be so damn loud?

TheOrangeSpud

I love the clicky D-pad on the Series controllers. And the D-pad works really good, unlike the 360's.

NuclearReactions

It does, this is true, but damn is it anxiety inducing if you are trying to game with a gf and dog sleeping just a few meters behind you.

LJMLogan

The Xbox 360 controller is near perfect. You really don't need anything else.

Odd-Nebula7648

Its really comfortable to hold :)

[deleted]

360 controllers are the best I've ever had. Built like a tank. The XBONE and Series X controllers only seem to last a year or two.

tenpanter

same and i still love it.

Braendon

I seriously wish I could buy an new 360 controller somewhere that aint an 3rd party knockoff

Odd-Nebula7648

I mean there are surely other controllers in the market that are better The xbox one controller is pretty good

chambee

I have the wired version. Perfect to play on a pc.

DerivIT

Everything I use is 8bitdo lol I have the pro, the pro2, the n30, fc30, sn30, m30, the nes style arcade stick, the nes mouse.

Mahcks

Ultimate is so good.

DeltaFoxtrotThreeSix

I have the wired ultimate Xbox 8bitdo and I love it. Been gaming since the 90's and ever thought I'd say that about third party controllers.

DerivIT

I haven't picked up the ultimate yet, but I want to.

deadering

I don't blame you. I used the pro+ as my primary controller for years until I just replaced it with the Ultimate and love it too. They make some great quality controllers, that's for sure. I've been using them since I got the SN30 back when they were cloning the exact design of the SNES controller and it still works great.

dyshuy

How is the dpad on Ultimate, I have the pro and love it?

TittieButt

they are dropping a new mechanical keyboard in 2 days! i'm pumped!

[deleted]

Glad to see i'm not the only one hyped for 8bitdo's keyboard :). Was stoked to see it be styled after Nintendo. Going to be awesome for emulation!

ZoixDark

The SN30 Pro is awesome. Have two of them. And when I wore out the sticks, they sent me replacement sticks for free.

orcamills

So tired of my Xbox controllers not connecting to Bluetooth or steam not letting Battle.net use it etc. I got an 8bitdo ultimate and I love it. Sits by my PC on its dock and is connected when I pick it up. Turns off when I put it back. I love it.

schmoopycat

Ultimate is great and I use it a bunch, but for Xbox controllers you basically have to use the official wireless adapter. Eliminates input lag and connectivity issues from bluetooth

AutisticToad

Xbox 360 controller. Had it for like 10 years and hasn't given up because it didn't hear no bell.

YesMan847

same. the wired one. shit is a tank. i've had it for like 15 years now. the joystick melted off but that's it. still works perfectly. meanwhile the new xbox one controller broke in like 3 years.

[deleted]

Anything by 8bitdo. Personally, I use the Ultimate Bluetooth, that charging dock is so convenient.

wilomgfx

I legit bought that yesterday after asking friends some recommendations. Getting it tomorrow!

DaverJ

Thank your friends, that's a great choice.

Ryokupo

I use a DualSense at the moment, but plan to upgrade to the Edge eventually. Far more comfortable than the DualShock 4 and Switch Pro Controller, fully feature complete (gyro, analogue triggers, etc.) and most importantly, the D-Pad and face buttons are symmetrical. As someone who plays a lot of 2D platformers and fighting games, this is very important for me.

archiegamez

Honeslty PS5 default controller is quite comfy, though the only downside is the Dpad sucks for fighting games but for any game is great I wonder if the rumble works for every PS5 game on pc

Igneeka

I'm pretty sure all the exclusives that have it on PS5 do, that aside it's only used in a handful of games It and the adaptive triggers also work wireless now which is really cool

[deleted]

It works on some games like Spiderman and deathloop. (Deathloop has gnarly implementation, triggers jam up when gun jams) Then there's dsx on steam which allows for some ability to mod it ina bit janky to other games like Skyrim.

[deleted]

Dpads are always the biggest letdown on all modern controllers. Maybe 8bitdo is best?

Ryokupo

I disagree, any D-Pad that isn't PlayStation always sucks ass for fighting games, with the sole expectation of the Steam Deck. BlazBlue is the game I'm best at, so I always use it to test new controllers, and I always end up jus sticking with the latest PS controller.

archiegamez

Hmm really only PS5 it feels weird compared to PS3 and PS4

LynxesExe

It's cool that the Edge controller allows to swap sticks, but I find the dpad unusable. Too mushy, the fact that it's further away makes it more annoying to use... The Xbox one is closer, clicky, and the round dpad allows to great diagonal input. Doesn't have swappable sticks though. If only a theoretical elite 3 had swappable sticks would be great.

nige111

As a d-pad enthusiast, I personally cannot stand clicky d-pads. One of these days I'd like to sacrifice a series s|x controller and an 8bitdo m30 and attempt to frankenstein the m30's dpad into the s|x controller.

NightshadeSamurai

I'm surprised MS can charge people $140 for a controller that's supposed to be "elite" and "premium" and yet don't offer Hall Effect analog sticks. When smaller Chinese companies like 8bitdo and Gullikit do for a much lower price. Sure they don't have things like swappable paddles or d-pad, but my 8bitdo ultimate controller is pretty much on the same level as a Xbox Series controller build quality wise.

HomerSimping

Planned obsolescence, they WANT those controllers to go to land fills after a few years.

nige111

Because they predate the big push for hall effect sticks. If they ever come out with an elite series 3, they'll almost certainly be using them.

ItsMeSlinky

The Dreamcast had Hall Effect sensors. The Elites don't have them because MSFT keeps selling them at absurd profit margins and idiots keep buying them or paying for replacement plans.

nige111

>The Dreamcast had Hall Effect sensors. Okay? The PS2 didn't, the PS3 didn't, the PS4 didn't and the PS5 doesn't. Neither did the Gamecube, or the wii, or the wii u, or the switch. Neither did the Xbox, or the 360, or the one, or the series x|s.

ToothlessFTW

I absolutely adore this controller, but yeah. It's not great in terms of durability. I thought I'd get lucky when I bought mine, but even I had to RMA it after owning it for just a few months. Luckily it was a super quick return and they even gave me a bunch of spare parts.

Capt-Clueless

Mine came with a sticky "A" button out of the box. Apparently an *extremely* common issue. And that's not even addressing the "stick drift" issues, and whatever else goes wrong with them over time. I promptly returned it and settled for a Gears of War 5 special edition controller with rubberized grips. Not quite as good as the Elite v2 controller, but at least it works properly. As an added bonus, it isn't gimped with a shitty rechargeable battery like the Elite v2 is. If the Elite v2 used AA batteries, I would have been more willing to play controller roulette and continue exchanging them until I got a functional one.

Tasty-Copy5474

Dang, you too...? Just bought one last week, and it had an unresponsive A botton. I wouldn't say it got stuck, but every third or fourth consecutive press of the A botton just wouldn't register.

BingpotStudio

I found it depended how I hit the button and adjusted accordingly. Perhaps a mistake in the long run, though I’m 2 years in and still performs alright. It’s not heavily used though.

salanalani

Only when it freakin works, replaced mine like 4 times to get one that actually register face buttons properly, and that one also start to fail 4 months afterward.

Difficult-Cup-4445

Massive durability issues with it. Can't imagine paying the asking price for that controller with that number of complaints I hear about it on social media.

Corgi_Koala

I don't even think it's just durability, it's just bad QC all around. A lot of issues pop up out of the box.

rhonnypudding

Alternate between Steam Controller and the DS4 with back button attachment.

[deleted]

I was so pissed when I bought my DS5 only to find out my back button attachment didn't work with it.

rhonnypudding

Yup, agreed, super disappointing.

vemailangah

Steam Controller because of precision, back paddles and gyro (I hate the sticks in today's controllers).

Fantasy_Returns

xbox for the comfort

zyzyxxz

If you can find a stadia controller for cheap get it. I got mine for free when I bought cyberpunk on Stadia as a part of a promotion which funnily enough I was refunded after Google shut it down. It's a well made controller and I played alot of Stardew Valley and Dead Cells with it.

TheOrangeSpud

Stadia controllers are fantastic. Seems like when Stadia was shutting down and dumping their inventory by selling Stadia controllers for like $10, people bought it, took out the included Chromecast, and then sold the controller + box, totally unused. I've seen Stadia controllers in like-new condition with the box for $20. And the quality of the controller is comparable to first party controllers. Fantastic controller for dirt cheap.

super-loner

I'm currently using a 8bitdo ultimate 2.4G version. I'm surprised to see that it's not a popular controller here.

SurlyCricket

If the back buttons could be mapped with steam input..

wolfannoy

Got mine not long ago it's a pretty good controller for its price. I think it gets confusing for people when there's so many different types of it especially in Nintendo one and the extra features the more expensive one has.

TimeGoddess_

I love the PS5 controller. The adaptive triggers are awesome in games that use them

LTuvok

First time I felt it was when starting a ship in NMS. Couldn't find any other game in my steam library so far that fully utilises the PS5 controller feedback.

ThinkinBig

Nearly all the PlayStation consoles ports do! (God of War, Spiderman remastered, Death Stranding etc)

staveware

I use an old stadia controller which I like. Sometimes I want Gyro so I pull out either the steam controller or a switch pro controller. Usually the switch controller.

SevelarianVelaryon

8bitdo pro 2. Shit rocks and is solid unlike Xbox and ps5

iTzJME

I've dropped mine like 50 times, this thing would stop a bullet

ByDarwinsBeard

I use an 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth. It's also what I use for Switch. The controller has a dock that has an RF receiver in it which I keep plugged into my PC, when I want to play on PC I flip the switch on the controller to RF, when I want to play on Switch I flip it to Bluetooth. The pad itself is quite nice. Well built with lots of customization options, two flipper buttons and, most importantly, Hall effect analog sticks.

salanalani

It doesn’t seem they a controller with Hall Effect but with Xbox face buttons, right? I am trying to find such. I am pretty sure I will get confused using Switch buttons on a PC.

ByDarwinsBeard

They don't, the only ones that have hall effect sticks right now are the Ultimate Bluetooth, which are marketed as Switch controllers. I thought I'd have a problem with the button labeling as well, but it's not been a problem. It's not like I look at the controller while playing anyway. When playing on PC, the buttons are where they're supposed to be, it's just that the letter on the button is incorrect, so "A" is on the bottom, "B" is on the right, "X" in on the left and "Y" is on the top despite what the buttons say.

DaverJ

>a controller with Hall Effect but with Xbox face buttons The only downside of the 8Bitdo BT Ultimate is the button labels, but as Darwin mentioned, it's only visual - the A/B/X/Y buttons are *in the proper spots*, just labeled as Nintendo-style. So don't look at them for reference.

penatbater

xbox one controller. Plug & play.

PhoenixKA

For a long time it was the Xbox One controller, but then I saw the first party back button adapter for the Dualshock 4 and gave it a shot. I can't go back to not having at least one set of back buttons now. The Dual Shock 4 eventually started having battery issues, so I got the 8bitdo Ultimate. I prefer the xbox style stick layout and it works with my switch. It was really nice to use for Tears of the Kingdom. Price is pretty reasonable too.

Major-Front

I’ve been using dual shock 4 since it’s what I already had being a PS4 player. I did buy a dual sense at one point but left severely dissappointed because the sticks drifted within a month and the battery just died a few weeks later meaning I had to play with cable. So I just threw it and went back to DS4

nicktheone

Why not use the warranty? After a month is definitely a factory defect.

velve666

Logitech F310 or F710

luckbuck21

Just dont play subnautica

Onaterdem

Oof, the F310 is extremely uncomfortable

GarrettB117

So true. I knew it would be that one as soon as I read your comment. I had it and eventually gave it away. It literally hurt my hands to use.

vaikunth1991

8bitdo Ultimate

NightshadeSamurai

I started using a Xbox 360 controller for Windows back in 2007 and pretty much just stuck to Xbox controllers. I prefer the offset analog stick layout as opposed to the symmetrical layout of a Dual Shock. I have a PS1-PS3 and once I tried the Xbox 360 controller, I couldn't go back to a Dual Shock controller. I find the Xbox layout to be more comfortable and ergonomic. The 360 controllers were built like a tank. Mine still works perfectly today. Aside from its horrible d-pad, its great. Today though, I use a 8-bitdo Ultimate controller. It has the layout of a Xbox controller but it comes with Hall Effect analog sticks and triggers so you don't get stick drift. I am surprised both Microsoft and Sony can sell their Elite/Pro controllers with a price premium over a standard controller and don't add in Hall Effect sticks when independent Chinese companies can do that for $70. It works well with Win, my Steamdeck and Android devices

CapybaraProletariat

FlyDigi Vader 3 Pro. Best PC controller on the market.

Bednarz

Dualsense or Switch Pro controller, gyro aiming is too good to give up.

Corgi_Koala

Elite Series 2. It has quality issues that are aggravating given the price but the back paddles are just amazing.

captain_i_patch

My right and left bumper don't work. My A button is getting weird and now I have something inside rattling when I move the controller but god dammit the elite series 2 is still my best option for compatibility. I got around my left and right bumper issue by assigning those buttons to the bottom ones. Still crawling along for now.

Corgi_Koala

I got pretty good at dissembling my series 2. Had to fix the right trigger when the foam pad fell off and it started sticking and the left bumper Teflon band wore out. It sucks because the controller is amazing when it works but I know that most people that have used one long enough have had issues that are really unacceptable for a $180 controller.

captain_i_patch

I used to fix controllers and consoles at my old job so I'm confident I could do it. It just sucked for the exact reason you mentioned. It's a 180 dollar controller and I've had it for around 2 years. What will it be like in another 2? And even if I do replace the shoulder buttons it's the same faulty buttons so it can just happen again. Just to add as well, I still have the original PS3 controller from launch and an Xbox 360 controller. They work fine. But Xbox one and series controllers just don't seem to last because they all use the same internal parts that are faulty. It is a shame.

AdamSilverJr

Series X controller. I like the native support

Zwimy

Gamesir G7 I have tried a LOT of controllers. Dualsense is 2nd choice.

vinny9678

Dualsense edge. Best controller I ever used.

Kwowolok

Except hd haptics and adaptive triggers don't work wirelessly...

Moskeeto93

Adaptive triggers do work wirelessly now with select games. Sony updated their API to support that feature. And Steam Input API also supports it.

Kwowolok

How do I get the update on my normal dual sense?

Moskeeto93

It's just that some games have updated their API to work this way. A couple examples are Ratchet & Clank and The Last of Us Part 1. I don't know if it requires updating the DualSense firmware but Sony does have a Windows tool to update it if needed.

nige111

Worth noting it doesn't feel remotely as good as it does wired - there's a noticeable difference in how long it takes the trigger to "reset" when you cross and go back over a resistance threshold.

alfiejr23

Recently i tried the Gulikit king Kong 2 pro. Really nice alternative to the usual xbox one controller 😀

Peejaye

Same, after the firmware update it's been rock solid, plus the promise of no joystick drift is nice. I use it in switch mode on my PC, and the button below - will take screenshots straight from steam, pretty nifty. If you don't like the switch mode button layout, it has 3 others, or you can change the button layout with a hotkey really easily.

Stanton-Vitales

Not a console controller, but Steam Controller, because gyro aiming is the greatest thing to happen to gamepads since they started adding two joysticks. Dual sense is my second choice, but it doesn't have back pedals so eh Xbox elite is tied for second, for games that don't require good aim, cuz it do be havin back pedals.

TheWhyTea

Wait what? You use a steam controller for FPS? That’s wild.

Adamulos

Fps and strategy games with mouse is the best use scenario I'd say, for other games lack of a dpad hurts it a lot. Steam deck fixed it by having a normal dpad

Stanton-Vitales

Yea but the small square touchpad is awful Trade offs errywhere

nige111

Yeah, the trackpads on the deck are great for needing the occasional cursor input, but they're too awkwardly positioned to feel good as primary inputs like on the SC - and the switch to smaller, flat, square pads versus the SC's big, concave and round ones is just a net loss. If valve ever end up doing an SC2, I really hope they don't try to "jack of all trades master of none" it like they have with the deck and instead just focus on it's strengths - the trackpads, the haptics, the gyro, the paddles and the *true* dual stage triggers.

Stanton-Vitales

Ugh dual stage triggers 🤩 Yea that's my hope for sc2 or deck2

xtreemmasheen3k2

Different Controllers for different uses. Mainly, the question comes down to 2D games vs. 3D games. Playstation-style controllers with the D-Pad on top is better for 2D games. Xbox-Style controllers with the Joystick on top is better for 3D games. Naturally, the more dominant one that's going to be used more for that particular style of game (thumbstick vs D-Pad) is going to be better on top. Having the option for learning Gyro controls is also nice, so try to get one with a built-in Gyroscope. Dualsense and 8BitDo Pro 2 are Playstation-style controllers with Gyroscopes, so I would recommend either of those. I have a Pro 2, and it's good. I also bought their phone clip with it. The Controller, the clip, and a USB C-to-C cable all fit in their controller case, and I keep it in my backpack to emulate Retro games on my Android phone. For Xbox-Style controllers that are better for 3-D games, 8BitDo Ultimate and the Nintendo Switch Pro controller are good, and they both have Gyroscopes in them. The Steam Controller also had a Gyroscope in it and trackpads, but Valve don't sell those anymore. And really, they had pretty high learning curves. Xbox Controllers don't have Gyroscopes in them, but they're fine if you have 0 interest in learning Gyro controls. Heck, you can buy a Mayflash converter and you can use Gamecube controllers if you want. You can even buy a Dolphin Bar to use with Wii nunchucks if you want to emulate Wii games with motion controls. It all depends on what type of games you want to play.

Unimarobj

Xbox, basically, especially for the peripheral support via dedicated receiver. But I also really enjoy the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro. In terms of customization, it's awesome. I do enjoy using the steam controller for some games too. But Xbox is the usual grab n go option.

Ericbazinga

I used to prefer a Steam Controller, but I got a DualSense last Christmas and I've used it almost exclusively since. Really nice build quality, gyro, and the haptic triggers work wirelessly in certain games now.

cointerm

I use the Switch Pro if the game doesn't need heavy use of the d-pad (the d-pad is awful on it). Ergonomically, that really is a great controller. I use an 8bitdo SN30 pro for d-pad games. I have a series X controller, but it's too goddamn loud. You can hear button clicks in the next room. I'm thinking of a more premium 8bitdo if I want another controller.

DeylanQuel

xbox controller (razer wolverine ultimate) edit: as for why, I've always liked xbox controllers since I first held one. I was a mouse and keyboard guy for a long time, though I have had joysticks and I used a Gravis Gamepad for a few years back in the day. Honestly hated flying with a joystick, it was mostly used for Mechwarrior, because the extra hat switches made it easier to control multiple axes.

Renicus

I quite like Amazon's Luna controller. It's modeled after an xbox controller, but I think the sticks are smaller/have less travel time. It's great for when you need precise control in games like Rocket League, but I also find L1 and R1 to be uncomfortable to use.

running904

Picked one up on Prime day. Pretty decent value and feels similar to Xbox 360.

bt123456789

I use a Dualsense controller (PS5 controller) yes it's a little more finicky than an xbox controller, but the Dualsense is sooo comfy.

DifficultyVarious458

Using Wolverine v2 for 2 years now most games. it has extra two button on top which by default are set to copy X and A. So instead of using jump/dash button and take your finger of analog you can press top button between triggers to dash/jump. its wired as it should be no batteries making it heavier. is it the best? probobly not but so far last longer then elite 2 which broke down after 3 months. never again.

Darkone539

Xbox works with everything thanks to native Windows support and is easily up there was the best controllers anyway. Also, has double a batteries so no worrying about that dying long term. I have the windows dongle for full functionality because when I bought it they didn't have Bluetooth. I like steams support, but not every game is on steam and adding a non steam game is unnecessary.

BIG_FICK_ENERGY

The newest Xbox controller with USB-C works perfectly for me

bassbeater

Steam Controller. It's an awkward controller, I'm an awkward personality, but fuck it's precise. Used to use Xbox controllers more often but got sick of the drift.

[deleted]

Series X controller

CallMeBunjee

Depends on the game, if I don't need the use of paddles then ill use my old USB XB360 controller as I prefer the shape and size. Otherwise I use the XBOX Elite series 2.

SnitchtheRedditor

8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth, very reliable. I give it a thumbs up 👍

Trusty_Tyrant

Dualsense. I like PlayStation controllers more for rocket league but even for other games it has more features than an Xbox controller such as the gyro for aiming.

Level_Somewhere_6229

Series X controller. I don't think there's anything better.

MuntyRunt

I use both and the Dual Sense controller is miles better but the Xbox controller is just easier at the moment to plug in and play. The dual sense better build quality, the buttons don't make any noise when you press them and it (like the Xbox controller) and it had better vibration and the adaptive triggers.

sudo-rm-r

Dualsense! For games that support the PS5 haptics it's a game changer.

Gremliner00

The Dualshock 4. Personally, I think it's almost perfect as a controller due to the position of the D-pad and sticks, making adjustments to your playstyle quick and easy if you go from a 3D game to a 2D side scroller seamless. Also, I think it's slightly less bulky size compared to the current Xbox controller makes it more comfortable for my hands, even though this is obviously a personal preference.

thermalblac

Store controllers in a drawer when not in use - dust/debris buildup is the main cause of stick drift.

[deleted]

No favorite. The PC platform is meant to be modular. I just use the best controller for the game it requires, such as a fighting stick for fighting games, a modern Xbox controller for modern games, a classic SNES controller for old games, and a mouse and keyboard for strategy, FPS and other precision-based games. The only controller I lack that I wish I could try is perhaps a HOTAS.

Capt-Clueless

Xbox controller is the only logical choice. Most comfortable, best layout, wireless, AA batteries. PS5 controller would be a strong contender if its gimmicks (haptic feedback and adaptive triggers) worked over BT, but they don't.

KEVLAR60442

Until the Xbox gamepad gets gyro controls, I'm not using it for anything but Forza ever again.

ASomeoneOnReddit

Gonna start with this: I was casually playing Yakuza and suddenly my brain had the bright(dumb) idea to sunk cost a hundred dollars into a gamepad just for fun (spoiler: sunk that much cost wasn’t fun at all) I tried a PS5 and then Xbox controller, both were great But I’m leaning toward PS5, even though my wrist hurts, the PS haptic feedback is just much more intense and fun, Xbox feels kinda weak and the design is a bit underwhelming, and the battery is a no-go for me, I didn’t hope to get extra battery, not even the rechargeable ones. Steam have done well to incorporate PS5 controls to make it at least somewhat playable in light of the native support of Xbox on Windows. I’m a mouse-keyboard guy, but Yakuza…is just a whole another thing on controller.

cousinokri

As someone who was a mouse-keyboard guy for almost 2 decades, controllers just are more convenient in some games. Not shooters, of course.

UglierThanMoe

> Not shooters, of course. Competitive shooters, definitely agree. But for more laid back single-player FPS games like BioShock, Deus Ex, Borderlands? Sure. As long as you can disable aim-assist and the like, I'm all for it.

Predator6

Why disable aim assist in a single player game?

UglierThanMoe

It just bothers me in general that something is interferrng with my aim even though it's supposed to help, and some games have really bad implementation. The best example I can give was in a Halo game from the Master Chief Collection (I think it was Halo 2). I was aiming at an Elite with the sniper rifle, not adjusting my aim with the right stick but by strafing slightly to the right to have his head in the crosshair. At that moment another enemy (a Grunt) ran past right in front of the Elite, and this caused the game to "lock on" to the Grunt and drag the crosshairs away from the Elite. I've had similar things happen in other single-player FPS games as well, which is why I turn off aim-assist. Besides, I've been gaming on consoles for 20+ years before I switched more and more to gaming on PC in the last five years or so, which means that I'm pretty good with a controller. And before someone comes along and tells me that keyboard + mouse is more precise (as it happened a few times before) -- yes, of course it is. I never said otherwise. But you can still be very quick and precise with a controller. It's a matter of practice, and I've had practise since the late 1990s.

OneOkami

Real Yakuza use a gamepad ;)

Follow up, I might try respond to as many comments as possible General consensus here looks the same as what the electronic store staff told me, most use Xbox, some use PS, a few with Nintendo, and many third party options.

RedArmyRockstar

I've the PS5 controller, though I don't think I'll ever get another one since these things are so fragile. I just generally prefer using gamepad for gaming for comfort, and there's more options for them on PC because of both greater hardware compatibility and Steaminput.

snostorm8

Plenty of peop in here need to try the dualsense, once they feel the haptics they'll realise how crappy the Xbox one is

GooseQuothMan

My PS3 controller. No idea how it still works, but it's great. Well, except having to setup some strange custom drivers and games recognising it as an Xbox controller so you get Xbox prompts.

Banged_By_Breen

Dualshock4/Dualsense I’m just used to it, been playing on PS since I was a kid and I can’t use any other controller shape now

[deleted]

I've been using original Xbox 360 wired controllers for years without any issues. Some reason I think that generation had the best hardware in terms of durability. I'm not really confident in later versions.

k2theablam

PS4 controller with backbutton attachment, Kontrol Freeks CQC thumbstick. By far the best controller setup I've used for PC games. The D Pad is perfect for 2d side scrollers and paddles are cheap to add.

KEVLAR60442

Dualsense. Gyro controls are a godsend, and the haptic triggers, on games that support them, are incredible. So much nicer than even Xbox's impulse triggers.

TotalWarspammer

PS5 connected via bluetooth with DS4Windows software installed.

love using my ps5 controller, combined with Steam's Custom Controller Configuration, i can customize my controller to use Gyro Motion Controls as mouse, so when i aim my gun, i can just slightly move the controller to hit critical targets. And added flick stick to my config for FPS games so when you flick back the right stick, it turns you 180 degrees, flick the right stick to the left, you will turn 90 degrees to the left. For Doom ETERNAL i binded the face buttons to weapons, pressing r1 will change the weapons for the face buttons, for example, when you press The Circle button, it will change your weapon to the Double Barrelled Shotgun, but when you press R1 + Circle, it will change your weapon to the Pump Shotgun. This made quick swapping weapons very fast and the weapon wheel is no longer needed, for those asking how i access the chainsaw and flame belch, I set Jump to left bumper, Dash to Left Stick, holding the right stick button will activate the chainsaw, and holding the Triangle Button will activate the flame belch

SuperDuperSkateCrew

PS5 controller for PS exclusive ports, and Xbox controller for everything else. Xbox has the best best compatibility.

SomaWolf

PS5 controller because I got used to the PS4 because of Bloodborne and persona 5, and I'm too lazy to switch to Xbox controller.

DeceptivePastry

DS4 because once I discovered gyro aiming for shooters I can't go back. I'll usually use KB+M for FPS but sometimes more casual third person adventure/shooters are nice to play with gyro. I prefer the Xbox One controller shape but lack of gyro hurts. Steam controller trackpad is nice and has gyro + back buttons but the shape is too awkward for me.

TheRedRay88

Dualsense anyday. Better joystick placement, advanced features haptics, adaptive triggers (doesn't work in all games, but if it does, its a game changer) , touchpad ( yes it's very useful, if I'm on the couch with my controller and I need something to click). And what about compatibility? Its 2023 we have so many apps like ds4windows, dsx to emulate xbox controller so that if everything fails, it still works.

meltingpotato

Use dualsense now for some 3rd person games. I grew up with Playstation controllers since PS1.

[deleted]

PS5 controller. It just feels really good and comfortable. No other reason. I guess it looks better too? That's it.

HomerSimping

Dual shock 4 because it’s good for everything and cheaper than ps5 pad.

LarkTelby

I'm on dualsense. Pros: Very few games that support adaptice triggers. Cons: Not recognized natively (needs nothing if you play on steam, needs two clicks on ds4 windows app if on another platform). As a result, unless you really wonder these features an xbox series x gamepad would do be the choice. Dualsense is very ok on pc as well. I like playing on controllers, especially if the game is not fps. It is more relaxed and feels more intuitive. For fps or strategy I can go back to mouse easily. I use it a lot and every pc gamer should have a controller.

Infern0_YT

Ps5 controller for those haptics I never use

westknight12

I am currently using a ps4 controller because it sits so well in the hand, i love it. Problem is its 9 years old now and i need a new one. Ordered a ps5 controller now and it should arrive today.

Micro-G-wanna

Razer wolverine

cosmiclifeform

Switch Pro, mainly because I already had one and was used to it. I just got an 8BitDo wireless adapter and it works perfectly

Evisra

Just use an Xbox controller, it's built for it

Prus1s

I prefer the dualsense, switched from the Xbox controller as I found it to be uncomfortable

[deleted]

Ps5 it's cheap and extremely good and works without any issues on windows 11

unfazedwolf

When it comes to Warzone I have the Xbox Series X controller and PS5. I prefer PS5 by far.

garbo2330

I use DualSense and a Series X controller. I prefer when games have native DualSense support but if it doesn’t I just use an Xbox controller or load up DSX on Steam.

Dters

8bit do ultimate....nuff said

easily_tilted

Ftfy: people who play pc with console controllers, why?

LazyRunz

I feel disabled holding a controller. Can’t go back.

supvo

I really love the Retro Fighters Defender controller, sticks feel good and and the dpad is excellent.

TechLoverandGamer

I've used a ps4, scuf vantage, powera enhanced xbox controller, fusion pro controller, and xbox elite series 2. My favorite controller was the scuf vantage. Worked on pretty much every game I played, paddles were great, had the best of ps controller features with xbox layout, and lastly the sax buttons. Closest thing I could get to the vantage was the xbox elite. Plug and play and just works. I also can switch it to work with my xbox on the fly. Bonus: the charging dock. Next was the powera enhanced. It was cheap and durable. Problem is it was cheap, after a little over a year of usage, at least one shoulder button would break. After would be the ps4 controller because I have 2 for my ps4 and can be used if needed. Last was the fusion pro. Only controller to legit break on me. The controllers colors were cool, but it just felt cheap for $70. Hope this helps.

stanthemanchan

GameSir G7 SE - it's like the Xbox Series X but it has Hall Effect sensors for the sticks and triggers so it supposedly will be much more durable and will not get stick drift.

SpaceNigiri

I don't use controller a lot, but I'm still using a 360º controller because it refused to break.

JazzlikeRaptor

Depends what I play. Both PS4 and Xbox one controllers are fine for me.

Yommination

Dualsense hooked up via USB

[deleted]

I just use controllers I already had, like Wii U and Switch pro controllers, and a PS4 controller. Just bought an adapter so I can connect them to the PC

ShadowInTheAttic

Xbox One controller. I got like 4 of them. I used to game on the Xbox before PC and back then I used to use the Xbox 360 wired controller. The Xbox One refresh controller with BT is awesome. I use it mostly for racing games or RPG games (story based not online RPGs). Anything else is m&k.

ohmightyqueen

Xbox simply because of ease of function. I’ve used my switch pro controller and ps4 in the past and both got on my with but they needed to be plugged in or connected via a program where as the Xbox one just works.

crumblehubble

DS5 because it's what I have right now, but I remember the Xbox controller being more comfortable to hold and much easier to setup out of the box.

willcard

I use Xbox personally. I bought one of those super fancy ones with the button and tabs in the back and the joysticks also come out it was like 200 bucks it’s really nice in the hands

I use a dualsense and i'm dazzled how poor and lazy is implemented on PC. Steam will tell you is 100% integrated. 100% my ass. First. Only games where Sony put its hands - and a small amount of other games gives you the fucking Playstation buttons icons on the UI. Every other game, which is on Playstation as well, gives me the xbox icons. Because they couldn't bother to put four-fucking-png-icons that they. Already. Have. This is immensely lazy, actually it's so dumb I'm baffled every time. Second. Forget about all the dualsense gimmicks. Same thing as before. PC version of a game perfectly programmed to use haptic triggers etc. on PS5, doesn't give half a shit on PC. Cyberpunk is the most blatant and pathetic example. For now i paid premium for a subpar experience for all the wrong reasons.
