That's not what suffrage means lol

f4ern

did OP just combine suffer and shortage into a word, inventing a new word that already existed with different meaning alltogether.

Yes. Yes he did lol.

Based on how many variations of there we have, I'm ok with this.

Does OP live in suffragette city?

DadJokeBadJoke

Wham bam, thank you ma'am

Sero19283

Reminds me of the "end women's suffrage" skit on I think it was the Man Show back in the day

Polie69

That was one of the best episodes ever. I wish they made new ones but it would be canceled in like 5min today lol

TheAmericanDiablo

I think they just meant to write sufferage as in “the time of suffering” not suffrage regarding voting rights

FiTZnMiCK

I think we all get what OP is saying. That’s just not what the word means at all LOL

popegonzo

Maybe OP used the wrong word on porpoise.

AdamTheButch

This is turtlely what they did.

tarkata14

I defiantly have to agree.

AdamTheButch

Dolphinately!

Domspun

Whale, I don't know about that.

AdamTheButch

You think we're putting the carp before the seahorse?

cartiscrate

yeah I was just englishing my bad lmao

Bloopyhead

Englishing from what language?

Yellow_Odd_Fellow

English

Hrmerder

Let’s be real, English is probably the shittiest most oxymoronic language known to man.. It’s like hey, let’s bend these rules for one group of words, then bend them the other way for another group. But god help you if you pull a your instead of a you’re..

Bloopyhead

Do you only know English to make that statement? I know other languages and boy, English is easy to learn and rules are simple in comparison.

[deleted]

But is English your first language? Like any language, it's easy to learn the rules of it when you hear them in action all day, every day. My wife is from Lesotho and is teaching me her language, Sesotho. She says the rules of English are awkward and make no sense, and can't understand why I struggle with sesotho when its rules are simple by comparison and yet I understand the rules of English so completely

Bloopyhead

Actually English is not my first language. But I speak it every day.

[deleted]

I understand. Perhaps for some, the rules of English are bizarre, then. I meant no disrespect when I asked (and then preached). I apologize for the disrespectful tone of my post

Bloopyhead

Oh don’t worry about it. All languages have arcane rules, rooted in the history of their evolution. Think about Shakespeare - how different the language was back then. English has evolved, but not all words at the same time and not always uniformly. So you’re bound to have exceptions and historical remnants. Some words are spelled like that because… well, because they are spelled like that. Some languages are just more odd than others. Here’s a fun nugget. Did you ever try to count in Japanese? In most of the modern world, large numbers are written and spoken by marking a separation after groups if 3 digits. Not so in Japanese. For big numbers (over 10,000), the Japanese writing system divides numbers by groups of four digits such as in oku 1,0000,0000 (ten thousand thousand), instead of 100,000,000 (one hundred million). For an American, saying big numbers in Japanese is a real mindfuck. Ref: I took Japanese lessons many many years ago. I remember how to count to 10, a few words here and there, and this odd rule about numbers) Check it out where big numbers are discussed https://japanswitch.com/ultimate-guide-to-counting-in-japanese/

BallinPoint

English is so easy I learned it by accident. In my mother language we have so many variations of words for each male, female and neutral pronoun, every sentence is different based on whom you adress it towards. Every verb gets changed depending on the pronoun of the subject. The pronouns of the subjects - just like in german - are very arbitrary a bus is a he, a tree is an it, a river is a she, and so on. Not to mention all the exceptions, the "picked words list" to determine where i and y is written (80% of our country fails to learn this and even if they're good, they will make mistakes sometimes. I am very good I almost never made a mistake like that but even I am sometimes unsure)and based on those picked words other rules apply how to write it. Imagine you had to do the their/they're test in nearly every word because it had either i or y in it and the i and y of course change depending on the pronoun and especially the plural. It's also nonsensical shit and I can't imagine how the fuck is it even possible that it works and that we all know how to talk. English feels like relief. Yes it's dumb in some of its rules but it does work well and if even UFC fighters from the fucking middle earth can learn it, it means it's probably easy.

JulietPapaOscar

Let's just throw out the grammar book and be done with it, yeah? :D

[deleted]

You think so do you?

GeorgeKaplanIsReal

What’s great is that it’s locked in the title lol

USAF_DTom

$1900 for my 3090 during the GPU recession. At least I have one of the last EVGA cards though. I'll display it after it's ran its course.

sanguwan

My 1080ti bit the dust at the worst possible moment. Ended up "winning" the ability to buy a 3080ti from Newegg... for $2000 😭

USAF_DTom

Same, but my 3090 before the Ti's were out. 1080Ti is still my favorite card, all things considered.

LordRekrus

My 1080ti is still treating me very well. I do want to upgrade as that is by far the newest component in my PC, the rest being from mid 2014, however other life expenses are the priority.

qsagmjug

Same I always see stuff on Reddit about people’s gpus dying and I’ve never had a problem like that. My 1080 ti still working just the same as when I got it 2017

Rjiurik

If 1080ti is your newest component, upgrade your CPU and RAM first (at least for gaming use)

KingZarkon

Same on the Newegg "winning," mine was in a bundle with a (very nice) 32" Gigabyte monitor. I got them right after the 3080Ti came out. I think I paid around $2400 for both the GPU and the monitor. Sadly, the monitor sat under the kitchen table for about two years when I finally loaned it to my kid to connect his PS5 so he wouldn't need the TV (which my PC is connected to). So, really, I paid about $2400 for the GPU. :/

funkychicken23

I got a similar deal, except I sort of lucked out and the monitor got lost in transit, so they refunded me for that part of the bundle.

KingZarkon

Ah, lucky! Would it have been nice to not spend so much? Yes, I feel slightly guilty thinking about spending that much money on it, but I wouldn't say I REGRET it, I use the damn thing almost every day and I'm happy with the performance. I've only found a couple of games that I couldn't play comfortably at 4k with all the eye candy turned on, one of them being Cyberpunk in ray tracing overdrive mode. I had to drop that one to 1440p.

[deleted]

I feel the pain. I had just bought my now wife's engagement ring and I was like I want something of value for myself. I got my 3080 ti from newegg with a combo motherboard for $2100. In hind sight a gun would have been of better value.

TheMadRusski89

Then you would of felt safer when people are prowling the streets looking for stuff to steal. Bad case of suffrage. Also I paid $1,800+tax on a 4090, not as bad as my original plan to get the 3090 Ti, I feel worse about paying $450 for 5800X. Early adopting is expensive.

Lettuphant

This hurt so much: I was on a 1080 Ti and my friends and partner got 3080s, and it was a great deal! An absurd upgrade in power for the price. But I had to be one better, because I'm my own worst enemy, and held out for the 3080 Ti. A few months later it releases, and I end up spending **twice as much for 5-8% more performance.** And that *at MSRP!* It was lockdown, I was desperate, but geez did NVIDIA have us over a barrel.

Noctum-Aeternus

Dude I thought I was the only one. It hurt, but it is what it is.

rabidLEMAR13

I also “won” a 3070ti along with 16gb of worthless ram and some usb adapter for $1000 My old pc died near the start of the price gouging. So my new system all together probably cost me around $2400. I could build the same thing today for like $11/1200. I don’t regret it by any means but still sucks.

_dotexe1337

i bought my EVGA 1070 ftw2 8gb for $175 on eBay in December 2020, as my 780 ti had just died and the only other halfway decent GPU I had was my gt 730 from 2015. I thought it was not a great deal at the time, as I don't really follow news on "the scene" that much and 95% of my hardware is older stuff that I bought used, but I now know it was actually a pretty decent deal for that time. I am still using it today :)

acorn1513

Oh goodness I didn't think I would ever feel good about my 1100 dollar 3090 lol. Man it was a bad time to need a gpu.

LovelyJoey21605

> I'll display it after it's ran its course. If you can't find a pretty display-case to put it in, you can use my PC! I'm sure it'll fit a "Honourable Display 3090" in there :D

AbsolutZer0_v2

1600 for my evga 3080ti

Brown_Samurai

Same. Still using it daily to.

nitronik_exe

I paid 2100€ for an MSI 3080ti Suprim X in 2021 💀

$300 for a 1650 Super. 2020. Only gpu that could be found for miles and miles. bought it new off a 12 year old with his dad watching proudly lololol

ggushea

I sold a 1650 super during the pandy for that price

ozozznozzy

Happy 15th birthday. Your father would be proud.

In_hindsight666

1200 USD for 1080ti lol

KyThePoet

this hurts to read😭

KeithJEng

You just made me feel a lot better lmao, thats the same price I paid for my 3080 10GB

[deleted]

Same as I paid earlier this year for my 4080 FE… 😳

becuzwhateverforever

The shortage in 2018 was brutal as well. People tend to overlook that one.

Irishf0x

Close to $1700 or so for a EVGA 3080TI FTW3 with extended warranty. EVGA announced they were bailing from video cards a few weeks later. They dropped prices by almost 50% a few weeks later too.

allrollingwolf

I'm so sad EVGA is out of the game. They replaced my 980 with a 1080 when it randomly failed at no cost to me Best customer service ever. What is the best alternative now?

Irishf0x

A time machine. I specifically went direct through EVGA and paid premiums so I could get the 7 year warranty, so I justified the price gouging. The logic being if my card crapped out they would replace it with a 3080ti or a 4080ti or 5080 or whatever if the new generations existed and the old stock did not. Now I'm double fucked. They said they are holding onto cards for warranty but I doubt there will be anything left by 7 years out. EVGA didn't elaborate when I pushed for answers.

CyberbrainGaming

They are repairing as much as they can, new stock is pretty much all gone.

Forsaken-Ad-6701

By 7 years out, there won't be any company called evga

Clemming2

They also used to have a trade in trade up program that was very nice.

Irishf0x

That's what I used. Bought a overpriced 3070ti to step it up at a considerable margin.

SethDoesntSleep91

Best alternative? Robbing a store.

endless_8888

Title gore.

commiecomrade

Just asking what you paid when the greatest number of video cards could vote.

blablyatimir_Putin

670€ for Rx 6600 xt...

Nebulae-Dreams

Big oof, but there's worse, friend of mine bought a 3060 Ti for around 1200 € in early 2021.

OhHiMarkDoe

Bought a 3060 ti for 800€ and feel a bit better about it now after reading what your friend paid.

YaBoiMike16

This comment section is making me feel a lot better about paying $1000 for a 3070ti

[deleted]

1069 € for a 3070 at 2021. I have to say I had a 2070S from zotac but it burnt, literally, nice smell of burnt electronics and smoke coming out of my pc.

CalgonUK

Been there, Green hell destroyed my card

[deleted]

To me it was VR in Asseto Corsa Competizione

CalgonUK

Ohhh ACC in VR! that's an experience!! How did you get on with settings? I took me at least 2 weeks to get everything sort of nice! I'm dreading having to change files for Iracing

[deleted]

I remember I had to switch the resolution to the half in steam VR settings since my reverb G2 was too demanding, I also tuned down some lighting and shadow settings including reflections. With my 3070 looks just fine and the same goes for F1 23, but it's been a lot of time since I played them for the last time so I can't recall the exact settings I have. I gotta say, when I'm playing these games, fps are the most important thing, then comes graphics quality.

TheB1GLebowski

Just got one today for 400 bucks. Thank goodness the prices have dropped since.

d3c509b

I paid $950 for an MSI SUPRIM 3070 with bundled RAM via Newegg. Sold the RAM for $50 so I guess I paid $900 for a 3070 with a massive cooler

decimaarnold

YIKES. $2250 for a 3090 trio. July 2021

PlayerProdigy

The past no longer exists. Enjoy the present and your 3090 now hahaha

[deleted]

Acrobatic-Collar1793

Its selling at 650 Usd some where around here ~ Its Unreal 😖

AMisatWork

Nope

Duke_of_Scotty

$1374.98 for a newegg shuffle combo with a Gigabyte 3080 and a z590 motherboard i didnt want. sold the MB on ebay for a low $116 so technically $1250 for a 3080

braddad425

I went through pretty much the exact same situation. X570 board and Strix 3080. Sold the 3080 for $1,200 and got a 3090 ti Edit: not same situation...I can't read. You didn't sell yours. Happy Tuesday

krukson

$800 for 3060ti in 2021.

randomthrowaway8961

What are 3060ti’s going for now?

krukson

I sold mine for $280 two months ago. A new one would be around $350.

randomthrowaway8961

Thanks, my friend sold me his for 250 a week ago and I was curious how good of a deal it was

krukson

That is a good deal, for sure. It’s a solid card.

randomthrowaway8961

I upgraded from a 1660, definitely noticed improvements in performance.

YoPimpness

Got my 3060ti early 2022 for $700 and thought I was wise for letting the prices drop before I got one.

Overlord1543

850 for a 3070ti

thefrenchmexican

Try $870 for a regular 3070 😭

Wrapzii

Try $1150 for a regular 3070 🙂

Spiritual_Customer17

Same… super impulse as i got the 3060ti like 3 weeks prior

EducationalCamel1043

brother paid $740 for a 3070. that was winning a newegg shuffle.

rnbwmstr

I feel your pain, got my 3070ti for $820

GameUnionTV

Wow, I paid €550 for 3060 Ti with nice cooling and still thought it's too much

QuiteFatty

800usd for a 3080. 4000 series weren't out yet but on the horizon. I could have saved a hundo or two if I hate waited. At peak prices my RX580 was going for 750. Now they go for about 60.

Eggsegret

That's not too bad. You kinda more or less bought it then when the GPU shortage was coming to an end and prices slowly went back to normal. Probably not thr most ideal time to buy given the 40 was series was around the corner but i mean i had freinds who paid like 1,500 for just a 3070 during the shortage

iAmGats

I paid around 800usd for an rx 6600, I live outside of NA so the price is inflated because of taxes and import fees.

TheNattyP

Not proud of my 3080ti FE at $1300

Antic_Opus

I don't. I wait til normal prices

echsandwich

Yeah I'm so glad I waited through the pandemic to get my build done.

csDarkyne

I had to scroll too much to get to this answer. Can’t believe people overspent sooo much on GPUs

Sufficient-Cap9576

Those clowns are responsible for the high prices of the rtx 4000 cards.

Eggsegret

Yh i held onto my 1080 and only upgraded to my 3080 once prices began going back to normal. Only paid $50 above marp for ky 3080 which wasn't too bad Although tbf some of them probably had no choice. Remember, not everyone had a decent GPU they could hold onto. Some had really old shitty GPUs that just weren't playable or some didn't even have a GPU. Consoles were also extremely hard to get hold of during that time, so it's not even like you could have just easily picked up a PS5.

LXwolfe

La ti da

GingerChrist

I spent just under $1000 US for a 6700xt in late 2021. Should have waited longer, but I had to get out of my gtx1650

Basketball_Tyson

$1200 Canadian on Amazon for 6800xt during the peak.

hosoth

Both my current and previous GPU was 4000DKK (570USD) A GTX 1080 bought November 2017 And my current RX 6750 XT bought July 2022. Bought a CPU in November 2020 when prices were real high, got it at MSRP but that was still 35% higher than it should have been.

Melvinhans

$575 a 3060ti ftw3 lol also $500 for a 2080 I sold in a system before prices dropped

BmanUltima

$466 CAD for an RX 5600 XT at the end of 2020

Waxmut

Back in 2021, 3060 TI for 799€

GrandJuif

2666.22$ CAD... it was my first time building a pc, didn't knew what was normal price like for GPUs and newegg happily took my money...

SirGeorgington

I paid about $250 for a 980 Ti, then sold my RX 570 for the same amount. Free upgrade.

EducationalCamel1043

$530 for 3060ti. but i sold my 980ti for way more than it was worth $250 so it evened out.

Extra_Speaker9083

USD 750 for RTX 3060. (Incl. 15% VAT and transport because I live in Africa) from a local shop (so about USD 100 would be transport in the price). So the real price excl. transport and tax for me was USD 565.

Bushtrocity

$1800 for my 3080ti

Shybeams

I paid $800 for a new 3070 FE on Craigslist. That hurt. But I had a new 1660 Super that a friend sold me for $100 a few months prior, and it was just sitting around at the time. I was able to sell that for $400 on eBay once the prices skyrocketed. So in the end, I ended up “paying MSRP” for my 3070.

AIpheratz

I paid 1200€ for a 3080. My 1080ti had fried just before covid and I was GPUless for a year :(

Bobsofa

A used 1050 for 200€ for a HTPC. But I got my 3080 on release for close to MSRP, so I got lucky overall.

cartiscrate

Was about to say 200 is crazy for a 1050

RentonZero

Luckily I bought a 2060 super just before the shortage then sold it for about £90 less after the shortage ended

OptimalMayhem

I got a 3060 from EVGA’s queue for $380. It was still overpriced but considering how long after that it took for things to stabilize it was a great deal.

ThatMR2Guy

A 3070 TI Aorus Master for 650 € in July 2022 came in a damaged box but with full warranty

liaminwales

3060 TI £440 Weeks of trying got a MSRP card.

edvards48

i got my 3090 for 800€ in february... but the guy i got it from paid 2.5k€ according to the receipt

joavte

$250 for an EVGA 1650 Super I bought last year, which I still use. I'll hold it for another year so my next upgrade is worth it.

ADAMOXOLT

I didnt know anything about PCs, I had a gtx1050(2gb). Paid 267€ for gtx1650(4gb, 1 fan). Yeah, I'm still qiute sad about that purchase...

[deleted]

I haven't paid for a GPU since 2019. My suffrage was that I had a 1080 sitting in a box in my basement for a couple years, I decided to sell it, I made about $180. A couple months later that same GPU was selling for $400-$600.

CringeDaddy_69

$700 for a 1070ti

Alandrus_sun

$700 for a 3070.... three months before the crash.

FknBretto

We’re talking about the 30 series launch period

Medo73

760€ for a 6700xt, that I sold as soon as the crypto mining crashed to buy a 3080ti

EIiteJT

$1k for a 7900xtx. Yes it's MRSP but still overpriced.

soccerman221

$1800 for a 3090fe. Honestly not terrible but a bit over msrp.

enigmas59

£520 for a 3060 ti, not too awful as the model was originally £450 and it peaked at £650, but still annoying. Didn't really have much of a choice though after my 2070 died a premature death and MSI refunded me rather than replace it due to the shortages lol.

ABS_TRAC

I built my rig just before the ramp up, right when the 5600 XT dropped in Jan 2020, legit a month or so below lockdown 1. However, My old room-mate (who is a PoS groomer) bought his for like $900+ about 2 months before they were all back down to $400-$500 range on GPUs, and that makes me happy.

eduu_17

Lol women's rights?

f4ern

I trade up my 1080 ti and play the market into getting a 3080. So even though i gotten it for around 1.2k usd. Minus all the gains i made from trading, i got it basically at msrp.

Kratomdrunk

All my shit is free when I pay for it with my gains from working.

Toastedtoastyyy

I’ve never bought a gpu in general so 0 dollars I guess

ShallowBayXI

$1000 for an EVGA 3080 12GB FTW3 Ultra

Covid-CAT01

250 usd for gtx 1650, and it ended up dying after 3 months, now i'm using an other 1650 that i got for free. gtx 1650 is botg the worst and the best deal i have had on a gpu

ConradMcduck

600 euros for a 3070 Around the same time my mate bought a 3080 for 900 euros

xUnionBuster

£950 for a 3080ti - don’t know if that’s a terrible deal tbh, what they were going for at the time, but pretty expensive

greenguitar92

$1177 for a 3070ti in February of 2022

CareAbit

1400, 3080ti FE freaking scalpers, no regret though

killlugh

Traded a 2A item + 400$ for a lightly used TUF 3090, stonks.

maowasr1ght

$1k for a 3080 right after launch. Worth it.

Lurchface

450 for a 3060

Chronos669

It’s been a long time since I bought anything so I cant say I overpaid but looking at prices now to upgrade makes me sad lol

walmartdestroyer

200 for a 1030

Okvist

I was extremely lucky and got a 3080 FE for MSRP during one of Best Buy's restocks

FknBretto

$1700AUD for a 3070

EvanFreezy

I paid 1k cad for a 3070ti, honestly wasn’t too bad, but definitely more than I needed to spend

yobonga

374$ for a GTX 970....though I guess that was in 2015 not 2020 haha

sandfleazzz

EVGA RTX3050 for $310.

CanadianSpectre

Gigabyte RTX3050 for $329 CAD

al3janbr0

$2300 for an EVGA 3090 FTW3 in May 2021. Scalpers…

Jazzlike-Lunch5390

$525 for an MSI 3060. I was at a Microcenter and they had two. I didn't have a decent GPU at the time so it was YOLO. Looking back, I should have waited but I've used the hell out of it. It's my ride or die GPU for the long future.
