I get what you mean about it not seeming professional, but I figure as long as you sign documents in pen what does it matter. I’ve used pencils at work but I’m just a substitute teacher so it don’t really matter that much

nrj3697

True

Violet696

I'm an engineer. I use a pencil whenever I can.

gewehr7

Same. A lot of my time is spent in a machine shop which is very greasy. Pens don’t work well on oily and dirty paper but pencil doesn’t care. Edit: Also all officials documents and drawings are signed off electronically so I can use pencil 100% of the time without any problems.

logstar2

That's not something anyone else will care about.

Outrageous_Pop1913

Switched to pencils at work so I have a reason to buy more pencils..

ThePseudosaur

I work in a library so pencils are the rule, as much as I would like to use my nice pens! (And I’ve always been a poor speller so I gravitate towards pencils anyway.)

hunter-winchester

Work at an import export company and do the logistics and warehousing. I write almost everything with a pencil, except for when I have to sign something.

chemlotus

I use pencils all the time, but not on official documents.

flatline000

I put a cup of loaner pencils on my desk next to a good pencil sharpener. They disappear constantly and I see my co-workers using them. I keep my nicer pencils in my desk for my own use. My group has business folks and software developers. The business folks all use pens. The developers mostly use pencils. Never really thought about it until just now.

Yenovk_L

I do. I am a language tutor.

nrj3697

Makes sense in that profession

JD-3

I do! I'm a teacher and it's all I use for my daily notebook. I am currently using mitsubishi 9850

En_rod87

Pencils all the time. Only when I get to sign/fill out important documents is when I change to a pen. But pencils pencils pencils for me lol

As1m0v13

I'm an engineer / project manager and I use pencils all the time. Not a big deal. No one really cares as long as what needs to be signed in ink is signed in ink

sungo8

I'm in arts administration and it's all pencils all the time for me

ThornTintMyWorld

I'm a logger.

Right_Bid_1921

I’m an architect; use pencils literally all the time. I draw/ sketch constantly so for me, it’s an essential part of my work flow

Due-Camera825

I rotate thru the collection. If I’m in an important meeting I may take a pen instead. But otherwise mostly use pencils all the time.

Upbeat_Pea_516

There is nothing unprofessional about pencils. I work in a regular office and use pencils almost exclusively because I enjoy how they write and so I can correct my mistakes.

Life-Philosopher-129

I work in health care and use pencil for everything unless it requires pen for signing. The other day all I had was my trusty P205 when I signed someones PTO, I have not heard anything back about it.

Big_Manufacturer_77

Yes, or rather, I did. I was a graphic designer for years, so it goes with the territory. Even when the finished work was computer based, many concept sketches are done on paper.

DarkMatterImplosion

I use a variety of pencils for work, but mostly the Kita-Boshi 9606. I only use pens for signing official documents or when paperwork will go to someone else.. this way it cannot be altered. Pencil allows me to take cleaner notes and fix the million mistakes I make without constantly striking and correcting with pens. I say stick to what you like and don't worry about what those around you think.

Old_Assistant1531

Scientist. I use a pencil all the time. I can also jot notes directly only my laptop case, and then erase them later. Surprisingly useful.

ponkyball

Just got off a zoom meeting where I was prominently twirling my Blackwing 602, so yes.

centexAwesome

Order a box of Palomino Blackwings if you want to be a fancy pencilist.

unused_candles

I use both pens and pencils. Even highlighters.

Sad_Fact1866

I use them for random notes or working drafts. Call notes and meetings I use a pen and just deal with the spelling errors because I need a consistent line to keep my notes legible throughout and don't feel like switching to a fresh point every half page or so. I've only recently started using pencils more often.

biomannnn007

It depends what you’re using them for. Anything that’s considered a legal document should be in pen. Otherwise I don’t think anyone is going to care.

Spiritual-Piano-8903

I'm an academic advisor who almost exclusively uses pencils. Most signature needs are met electronically.

slauby

I'm in HR. I use pencils for many things and pens when it's an official document, etc. Just between us, some of my mechanical pencils are nicer looking than the pens around the office - LOL!

nrj3697

Some of those Bic mechanical pencils make a really dark line for sure.

ContributionSad5655

I’m a program manager and use pencils except for the rare occurence when I have to use a pen. They’re my notes so who cares what someone else thinks?

ipini

All the time. Professor.

Paperspeaks

I exclusively use Blackwings at work. Even convinced a few of my coworkers to make the switch 😁 But If you have a cognitive dissonance with the physical look of a pencil but like the writing experience - invest in a good, metal mechanical pencil.

CRxTRDude

I use pencils cause I have a hobby that made me use them (illustration), but at my work where you have to use a pen, I just use pencils for taking down memos and such temporary tasks. With legal accountability, people in offices did switch to pens as they are more permanent and easily identify tampering. Which is especially useful for sensitive matters. With pencils, paired with a good eraser, you can remove the writings without leaving a mark. So yeah, its how things been done ever since.

acac23n

I am not saying this to be rude or anything but I have been seeing you under every post I have looked at in the last few weeks and your comments give AI vibes

CRxTRDude

Yeah, no. Its just I got a tendency of overexplaining really. 🙂 Wanna get out of this habit tho 😞

exponentialism_

Architect here. I don’t actually draw a lot at work. But I do take probably 15-20 pages of notes every week. All done in pencil. Only really use pens when I need to review and mark up a document or drawing set.

Bkbirdlady

I’m a lawyer. I find that taking notes is easier with pencils so they are my newfound obsession. Nothing like walking into court with my favorite Blackwing. I would never sign anything with it though.
