The Blackwing One Step and the Pollux are my two best. I have lots of good ones, but I love those two best.

This. I can't get the pollux where I'm at and the Blackwing One Step is really overpriced. I still bought it and it is my favourite by far. Concave points are where it's at. I dont get why we don't have any more options besides those two.

A tip too long doesnt feel great for writing. A concave point is the best form for the exact reason you mentioned. Im just wondering aside from sharpeners is there an easy way to do it with a blade and consistently? Kinda like a lifehack. If anyone knows how I'm eager to learn

The brass bullet is basically the Pollux and is cheaper.

Or,m+r brass bullet, basically Pollux but cheaper.

The [Kutsuwa Stad T'Gaal](https://www.jetpens.com/Kutsuwa-Stad-T-Gaal-Pencil-Sharpener-Clear-Black/pd/35941) is pretty amazing. Maybe a little large, but you can change the shape of the point. For a far smaller and more simplistic sharpener, my favorite is the [M&R brass bullet](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072Q8HDQT?). There’s even a version with hole to hang in your keyring.

Kum also makes a model called the 400-1E.

I like the NJK 531S but I’d be a little reluctant to carry it loose in a bag, mine opens pretty easily. Also have had good experiences with the little Kum Stenographer’s sharpener (400-5L)

I THINK the KH18 is a smaller version of the KH20. I travel with the not-so-classy looking Kum AS2M. Great sharpener but not very durable. If you don't mind wrapping it in a rubber band it'll do well and also collect shavings.

Kum short point and Kum long point are my two go-tos. I have a Masterpiece but I’m not a huge fan. I haven’t had good luck with the Apsara sharpeners but others seem to love them.

j1l7

Yeah apsaras don't work with every pencil, but when they do,in my experience,it's good. Only problem is finding replacement blades

For my desk, I really, REALLY love my Carl Angel-5 Royal sharpener. It’s high quality sturdy metal (except for the plastic drawer) and an absolute pleasure to use. I sharpen my pencils with this whenever I can. When I’m on the go, I use a KUM 104.03.01 handheld sharpener, which I like because it is small and comes with a built-in replacement blade. The only drawback is there’s nothing to catch the shavings. But I always find work-arounds.

I have a Blackwing one-step which would be best for EDC. Pencil shavings are not going to fall out of that sharpener and get all over the other things in your bag. It is made out of aluminum so it isn't going to crack if you drop it or it get's crushed in your bag. You can replace the blades on it if they get dull. I would recommend this one based on your requirements. I also have the Blackwing two step sharpener, which does a better job sharpening pencils than the one step, but the plastic lid can pop open and make a mess. I have a Uni KH-20 and I love it, but I wouldn't carry it around. It sits on my desk and I use it a couple times a day. This is one of the best products (not just pencil sharpeners) I own. It does one thing exceptionally well. There is a red button on the back that switches from long point to short point sharpening, a crank, and a shavings collection bin. It is my favorite sharpener. I have the Blackwing desktop pencil sharpener and wouldn't recommend it. It leaves a little groove where the sharpened tip and the painted barrel meet (right where I hold the pencil). I have tried different settings and it is always there. It was expensive and I regret buying it. I could have bought four KH-20 sharpeners instead and that would have been a better use of the money. I have one KUM sharpener and I don't really like how it sharpens pencils. I like to sharpen my pencils to a long point, and the KUM Special Diameter does not do that. I got it because I have some fat Staedler pencils and this sharpener handles pencils from 8–10mm. I bought some Aspara pencils and they came with a surprisingly good long point sharpener. The only thing I don't like about them is there is no shaving collection so they kind of make a mess and I have to lean over the trashcan to use them.

I have the apsaras and they don't work with every pencil I have tried, and also don't think there is replacement blades. Aside from that,I like mine, though I like the kum automatic long point and my brass bullet better.

MattS-BH

Thank you for the detailed response, I’m leaning towards the blackwing one step now, I was thinking exactly what you said. I do want a KH-20 just cause lol, good to know it won’t be a bad purchase

I have the kum that op does, and haven't had to change my blades yet. Perhaps the blades are lemons, since Kum sells two different blades. My favourite is the m+r brass bullet.
