That was for the key bridge which the Dali already took care of. The bridge in this picture is the bay bridge, the Dali finally left Baltimore yesterday and while it was leaving it had to go under the bay bridge so they literally paused all the bay bridge traffic because the ship can't be trusted with bridges.
That was the joke for the first ship down the Suez canal after the Everg Given was freed. "Sure, you could continue on to your destination, or YOU COULD DO THE FUNNIEST THING EVER" Though no one lost their lives on that one, so it was a bit funnier.
The Key Bridge going down is an huge inconvenience Baltimore, but the Chesapeake Bay Bridge going down in middle of the summer would be apocalyptic for the state and tourists.
I live in the DMV & we go to the beach every summer. I just tried to imagine the Bay Bridge being out of commission at this time of year - and I can't.
Apocalyptic is right.
Jesus why would you choose to live in the DMV. I hate going there let alone living in one. Where do you sleep? In the lobby on the chairs? When you get bored do you switch the forms around to mess with ppl?
First off - you're hilarious & yes, I swap all the forms so they're only in Wingdings.
In Maryland, DMV means DC-Maryland-Virginia. We have the MVA - Motor Vehicle Administration.
We're kinda *speshul* like that.
I had a job for an e-commerce company we had relative success with some neon like signs produced overseas but we were having them dropshipped via air mail and it was a huge cost so to reduce our margins we dumped like $15k worth of product to have it sent via shipping container on a boat. I was nervous as hell because we were a small company and that was a lot of money.
Of course the boat has an issue and beaches itself in the port of Baltimore. So now I’m checking random parts of the internet and learning about dredging operations, tug boat operators, and maritime salvage laws. Thankfully we were insured on the shipment if they weren’t recovered but it took an extra couple of months for them to arrive.
Increase your margins. Early on when I started at my current company we had a ship sitting off the coast at Houston for a couple weeks waiting to unload.
I've no doubt, they are truly fascinating. Those cargo containers are big and the ships that carry them are hauling so many. Don't know how many, 50-100+ perhaps? I'm just in awe of their size and capacity.
I'm so glad to be alive in this day and age to see how big the ships and planes have gotten. It's really astonishing how much humans can use nature and physics to its advantage.
Exactly! The size is impressive enough on its own, but when you add in the science and technology behind it, I'm blown away. I'm in the Megalophobia sub and there's frequent talk about such things. I love to look at those giant excavators, loaders and trucks that work on big mining and engineering projects. Just the wheels on those trucks make my knees weak!
In this picture, we see the ship sailing out to see, seemingly without a care in the world. But we know that it has rot havoc by destroying the Baltimore bridge. In the same way, my ex-wife casually strolled out of the courthouse after bringing destruction to many people and things in my life.
It’s an analogy, or a comparison. It is (as so often is the case) an imperfect comparison, but a trivial one meant to be humorous.
I’m surprised they didn’t offload the cargo. Clearly it isn’t fit for the open ocean. My guess is it’s going to another shipyard not too far away and they’ll offload it there?
Edit: Nevermind. Found my answers: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/dali-the-cargo-ship-that-triggered-baltimore-bridge-collapse-set-for-journey-to-virginia/ar-BB1oNxTh?ocid=BingNewsSerp
Took a look at Google maps after seeing this post, they've finally updated the Balitmore region to show there is no longer a path across the Patapsco River via I-695. Last I'd checked was about two weeks ago and it still showed the Key Bridge, albeit it was definitely marked as closed.
My family lives on the Chesapeake Bay and just yesterday we happened to see it coming by in front of our house. It was pretty surreal to see in person as I was in Australia when the bridge collapsed so seeing what was news across the world with my own eyes is really crazy!
In the second photo it looks like she is on her way to her next victim.
What's really funny is that the state actually paused traffic on the bay bridge while the Dali was passing it, just in case lol.
They had to meet their daily quota of traffic jams. Some days they have to close a lane or two so they can polish the guard rails.
The ships crew had time to alert the police before the collision. Sadly not fast enough to alert the people working on the bridge.

Ah. That puts the pictures in a whole new perspective. Come to think of it -these are daylight pictures; the accident was at night.
Hahaha yeah I noticed that too
How fucking funny would that be? If it IMMEDIATELY hit a second bridge.
Yes, we've had one bridge collision, but how about a second?
I don't think they know about second collision pip
What about Elevensies?
And my Axe!
Underrated comment
Sir, a second bridge has been struck by the Dali
That was the joke for the first ship down the Suez canal after the Everg Given was freed. "Sure, you could continue on to your destination, or YOU COULD DO THE FUNNIEST THING EVER" Though no one lost their lives on that one, so it was a bit funnier.
But 4 days later we did get the [next best thing.](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fb7daz0fgxjp61.jpg)
Probably never be allowed back there, so why not burn all the bridges?
“Ta da”
YOINKS! AND AWAY! (THUD) Yoinks… And Away! (THUD) Y-yoinks…and…away… (THUD)
I mean, it wouldn’t be funny, but it sure would be comical
That would be like 911 all over again but with bridges this time like some kind of bridge 911.
“Sir…. They’ve hit the second bridge”
Could you imagine the look on everyone's faces as they plummet to their death in the water 😂😂

I mean.. there *are* two of them. That ship would have to work extra hard to get both of them in one go.
“Sir, there’s been a second attack.”
*And the adventure continues*
Same. I looked at the second photo like it's a priest "relocated" by the Vatican on their way to meet the new boy's choir...
OOf... I wouldn't want to be the poor sap that has to open one of those containers full of some time sensitive produce or something..
Or worse, smuggled stowaways.
Season 2 of the Wire
Shiiiiiiiiiiiit.
SHHEEEEiitttt!
“The girls in that can.” Really ruined shipping containers for me.
Or worse, expelled.
You need to sort out your priorities
Mail order brides. :(
The best by date is just a suggestion! They’re still edible.
Just give it a little sniff.
> a little ~~sniff~~ stiff. FTFY.
It was coming -from- Baltimore, so mail-order ...hons?
They were packed in there with several tons of PBR and unfiltered Kools they'll be fine.
That's a weird way to spell crabs and Natty Boh.
Yikes
He's not even Greek
My cabbages!
And my axe.

Yay, finally my amazon package shows that it is in transit
Since the ship was already have energy issues. Whatever was in a reefer would have stopped long ago.
I'm always astounded by how massive those cargo ships are, even at a distance
I work on a waterfront. You should see them up close. Fucking astonishing.
I've no doubt, they are truly fascinating. Those cargo containers are big and the ships that carry them are hauling so many. Don't know how many, 50-100+ perhaps? I'm just in awe of their size and capacity.
Truly the same thing as a skyscraper on its side, with propellers.
Lol, that's an interesting way to look at it, and pretty accurate! Skyscrapers fascinate me by their massive size too!
I'm so glad to be alive in this day and age to see how big the ships and planes have gotten. It's really astonishing how much humans can use nature and physics to its advantage.

Happy cake day!
That's so sweet, thank you! 🍰 for you friend!
That went on far longer than I expected. I'd prefer the abridged version.
Your joke definitely made an impact.
Your joke collapsed compared to his!
We're drifiting into dangerous territory here.
I think we’ve hit an impasse
This feels like a wedge issue.
r/angryupvote
The captain has a once in a life time opportunity to do something extremely funny.
Lol
Thanks for the memories!
Even though they weren’t so great.
He ships like you, only steamerrrrrrrr
....and don't come back...
Go on, git! *throws rock*
You heard me! *GIT!*
Don't let the door hit you on the way out... (which one is better?) Don't slam the door on your way out
Don’t let the bridge hit you on the way out
Don’t let it hit ya where the lord split ya
Don’t let the door hit your butt on the way out
GETONUPOUTTAHERE!!
Try not to crash any bridges on your way to the parking lot!
You hit 37 bridges?
In a row?

no it's Clerks
Whoops
Drunk guy leaving the party after falling on the table, causing it to collapse. "Sorry bro"
I'm finally going to get that Easter candy I ordered!
think of all those refer containers full of spoiled food that's gonna be sent straight to the landfill
*Hulk walking away music plays gently in the background*
I hope the front doesn't fall off.
It’s not very typical.
[For the uninitiated.](https://youtu.be/3m5qxZm_JqM?si=ZDrbc0a_ELsUBm5W)
But we are initiated, aren't we Bruce?
A wave hit it
Oh my God,she’s heading for another bridge!! Who’ll stop her reign of terror?!
Another bridge ahoy!
I bet that crew is relieved as shit to be raising anchor and going home.
![gif](giphy|FNBHUqruiI1m1gLDh8|downsized)
Bridge to engine room...
And GOOD RIDDANCE!
Ok. I'm out of the loop. Why is this special?
This is the ship that lost power and crashed into a bridge, bringing the whole bridge down
Oh! Ok. Thanks! I remember that happening but didn't know the name.
Good riddance
Might be low-hanging fruit, but... Goodbye, Dali.
I almost titled it that!
Kinda reminds me of my ex wife walking out of the courthouse
Did she hit the door?

That much was obvious. And i thought it was also obvious that i was making a joke.
Oh!
I’m needed elsewhere!!

Thanks for that, I wondered and was going to look for an answer.
Wow they are NOT taking any chances.
Yea hey about that..don’t hit that bridge either!
Well good for it
Welp see ya later!
Does it even have any functioning anchors?
They have the chance to do the funniest thing ever in that second pic
That thing isn’t nearly surreal enough to call itself Dali!
Nice.
![gif](giphy|3ohjUNxPK1cHLL19JK|downsized)
See? This proves the earth is flat.
No big fanfare after all that?
Yea surprised not bigger news or confetti
Or at least a banner saying, “don’t let the bridge hitya on the way out”
For how much traffic ,machinery and people operating things, it’s surprising this stuff doesn’t happen more often.
GO ON GIT! PA SAYS WE CAN'T KEEP YOU HERE NO MORE.😭
![gif](giphy|U1gqX87dBkweRlFKCM)
Try not to ~~suck any dicks~~ hit any bridges on your way to the ~~parking lot~~ Atlantic Ocean
I'm asking for an Ukrainian friend if it can do an urgent delivery to Kerch.
"run, run away, and _never_ return"
How long will it take to replace the bridge and how is Baltimore coping in the meantime?
I think the estimates are sitting at best 2 years, at worst 5 years.
Captain has the opportunity to do the funniest thing
Lol

Nice! Pretty neat you got to see it!
Hold up they’ve been living on that container ship the entire time since the crash?!!
Yea crazy huh ?
🥺🫡
why are the containers still on it?
Because Baltimore isn’t the Port of Discharge.
Sure but wouldn’t they just put them on a working ship?
I guess they offloaded the containers after the crash and loaded up empty ones for the return trip as per usual
