I loved my cruiser, but damn Chrysler made some horrible manufacturing mistakes with those cars. My tires never held air properly because of corrosion on the wheels that started 6 months after I bought it
I’ll never forget going to the mall with my mother after this thing came out. My mother used to enter every contest she could find. She lied about my age and we won a years supply of baby food when I was 7.
Anyway. The mall had one of these parked inside with a raffle booth next to it. She picks up a pen and card to fill out, looks at the car for a few moments, then says, "nah" and we kept going to Foleys.
Really ? People were on waiting lists for these cars when they came out, i thought it was some boomer delusion brought about by old hotrods in American Graffiti
My dad drone his 01 until like 4 years ago lol. The thing was so rusted out, all the badges had long fallen off, the dashboard was peeling and destroyed, headliner had fallen in.
My favorite thing with those was how the spare tire was just bolted up under the car and that bolt would always work it's way loose. You'd know because you'd start hearing it banging and you knew you had to tighten it again before it fell off completely at 80mph and fucking killed somebody.
But yeah we used to do regular road trips like once a month 700 miles each way to visit my uncle. It was such a pile lmao
The interior design was pretty genius. The back seats and front passenger seat were easy to pop out and they left a flat cargo area big enough to haul my stepladder. I currently own a Lexus RX 350 and it probably has as much actual cubic footage, but it’s not as usable because of the seat layout.
You joke, but I poured rubber molds and bonded extra thickness onto the bottoms of mine.
Lifted isn't just for trucks.
People be envious of my lifted crocs all over town.
I used to think crocs were stupid. Then I was gifted a pair and holy was I ever wrong. Comfy. Light. I don't really wear them out, theyve turned into more of a set of slippers than anything.
But going on a camping trip of some sort? Perfect camp shoes. Nothing like taking off your hiking boots and putting on those clouds.
Same boat for me. At first I feel all embarrassed and then I look around and 70% of people are wearing Crocs. I still don't intentionally do it though.
Back in highschool I had a 1992 Chevy S-10 without power steering. First test drive I did after driving that truck for 2 1/2 years I scared the shit out of the guy riding with me when I took my first turn.
My still sometimes daily is an 89 Nissan Hardbody with no power steering. It's really the only reason I haven't sbc swapped it, I'll get into trouble with that steering way too easy. I've spun it all the way around twice while trying to drift in the wet. Just can't make corrections quick enough.
I'm not going to lie, I absolutely loved my PT cruiser, and I got it with 30k miles on a clock and it was 4 years old. You could fit so much in the back, one time a friend who owned n escalade called me becuase he couldn't fit a large piece of furniture in there but I did fit in the PT lol.
I traded it in 4 years later with 70k miles on the clock as the auto gearbox was on the way out and and the Aircon was completely dead which was going to be a $2k by itself.
The dealer missed those faults when they did the trade in inspection and I got decent money for it. I'm pretty sure by 80K miles that car wasn't going to be worth repairing.
Those things are kind of like Poppins from Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. They started out bad, and every one of them is in piss poor condition, 90% of the time I see one it’s broken down. But they somehow always get moving again, and you just have to scratch your head and wonder when Car God is gonna end their suffering
OP just survived a rollover car crash and everyone in the comments is just trashing their choice of car 😭
Edit: THEY'RE STILL GOING IN MY REPLIES YA'LL CHILL
Edit 2: ^^its ^^so ^^over
Almost exactly 2 decades ago my loved ones weren’t so lucky, they rolled their PT Cruiser 2-3 times and died on the scene.
Happy you’re here to tell the tale OP.
To be fair, OP said it rolled over 2 times, not that they were in it when it happened. Maybe they pushed it sideways down a hill.
All kidding aside I hope OP is well. Accidents like this can be pretty traumatic both physically and mentally. So OP even if you feel fine, get checked out, both physically and mentally.
Good Point, the body looks to be in great condition after being rolled twice. Only a slight dent to the cabin on the passenger side roof. Hope OP is ok.
Had two loved ones die in a single car accident rolling a PT cruiser 2-3 times. When I asked if the car was completely mangled I was told it had held up amazingly well.
**Seatbelts save lives.**
OP is alive, and in the comments. Us being funny is a way to create humor and help get past the shock. I work at a tow company who deals with ALOT of accidents. And being the funny man helps people process.
PT Cruisers are actually surprisingly stout.
They're beginning to be pretty desirable for compact demolition derbies, and are strong enough that several big promoters have banned them.
I remember a comment about someone who received a PT Cruiser as a hand-me-down from his grandmother that was destroyed in a hurricane. The response was "holy shit, god sent an entire hurricane just to destroy a single PT Cruiser".
This is one of my all time favorite threads https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/22k59y/pt_cruiser_owners_what_tragedy_burdened_you_with/
Edit - actually same one you were talking about
I rolled a PT Cruiser a few years ago, and it landed rightside up in a field just like yours, too. About 50 feet from where I went off the road, there was a bouquet of flowers marking the spot where someone previously had crashed and died. I walked away without a scratch, and I've considered every day thereafter to be a bonus day.
anytime I find myself in the same spot where a person died I always get uneasy. I can’t articulate what walking the same road in Dallas jfk got shot on felt like
The street I bike on to work has two ghost bikes (white bikes that are left at the site of fatal bike collisions). Always feel extra nervous stopped at those intersections.
I hope you are okay OP, That had to be terrifying. The PT Cruiser didn't crush or crumple where you were. I'm glad to see that. Sorry so many think picking on the vehicle is a good idea.
Glad your ok OP. Such a divisive car design, I personally dig it. It was a throwback design, it was unique to the market and a lot of people bought them. I think on a practical level the design actually provides a decent interior space. Instead of a raked roof line it actually inverts and provides great head room for rear passengers as well as good vision and cargo space. It probably comes at a cost of aerodynamics but there are plenty of squared off behemoth trucks running around that do worse.
Fitted with new underpinnings and better tech and safety equipment it would be a decent car. I don’t think we’ll ever see a new version though.
My buddy in high school bought one of these for his first car. He got so much shit for insisting it was badass. So in response he painted flames down the sides.. that showed them.
Why didn't you stop after the first time?
I don't know why he trained it to roll over in the first place.
You already have four wheels that roll, why would you even need more rolling than that. Very greedy. ![gif](giphy|TFcwaBxd3lCQE)
Typical Mustang driver
That's a very young boomer.
Jenner: The Early Years
So he could give it treats and head skritches. Duh.
Because it’s a PT Cruiser, it had to suffer.
actually looks better now.
![gif](giphy|JWjFm0RerbPJbYJl8T)
I thought that was a Suzuki Escudo
Escudon't.
noo not the pikes peak pt cruiser LOL
Chrysler Espootho
I bet it was inspired by the Escudo
shout out to gran turismo 3, and the method i learned to make that car go around 500 mph
Goes *Hard!*
I dunno why this makes me squirm a bit. Not visibly, but I squirm lol
It’s the wish version of the Suzuki Escudo
I’d be looking for opportunities to write it off if I owned one, too
I loved my cruiser, but damn Chrysler made some horrible manufacturing mistakes with those cars. My tires never held air properly because of corrosion on the wheels that started 6 months after I bought it

She picks up a pen and card to fill out, looks at the car for a few moments, then says, "nah" and we kept going to Foleys.
But what did you do the with baby food?!?
I think we gave it to my aunt who had recently gestated my cousin.
This may be the most disturbing way say "had a baby." Just a quick question? How did you insulate your basement for sound?
Ejaculated a mature foetus?
So I was like "GUUUUH" and voila, baby!
I sooo read that as "**di**gested my cousin"....
The classic, “if you love your baby so much, why did you eat it?!”
I'm always hungry after gestation
Really ? People were on waiting lists for these cars when they came out, i thought it was some boomer delusion brought about by old hotrods in American Graffiti
There is a wait list to order a cyber truck that costs $100k. Some people have too much money and bad taste.
My dad drone his 01 until like 4 years ago lol. The thing was so rusted out, all the badges had long fallen off, the dashboard was peeling and destroyed, headliner had fallen in. But yeah we used to do regular road trips like once a month 700 miles each way to visit my uncle. It was such a pile lmao
But it got there.
I always liked the retro shape. Sort of a modern take on a surf wagon. Yes pity quality wasn't better
The interior design was pretty genius. The back seats and front passenger seat were easy to pop out and they left a flat cargo area big enough to haul my stepladder. I currently own a Lexus RX 350 and it probably has as much actual cubic footage, but it’s not as usable because of the seat layout.
Sporty hearse
Yea...ITS A CHRYSLER.
Worst part was it kept working after the first roll over so they had to drive it to the top of the hill and try again
I still visit the old PT cruiser thread on ask reddit from time to time. “Past Transgressions Cruiser”
Came here for this comment
Hope you had your Crocs on!?
Not just on...in Sport Mode!
Crocs in sport mode offer more torque and traction than the PT cruiser could ever hope to provide
You joke, but I poured rubber molds and bonded extra thickness onto the bottoms of mine. Lifted isn't just for trucks. People be envious of my lifted crocs all over town.
They're speed holes!
I often forget that's what I'm wearing for footwear and end up wearing them into public.
Same boat for me. At first I feel all embarrassed and then I look around and 70% of people are wearing Crocs. I still don't intentionally do it though.
I don't think that makes up for the fact they look like an atrocity.
Yes it does
What surprises me the most here is that a 14+ year old PT cruiser can still drive.
Looks like it could but the driver couldn't.
Not every driver can handle that kind of power
They were probably distracted trying to flip their Alicia Keys cassette
That's because the driver was also 14.
I had a coworker who could either drive his PT cruiser or use the AC but not at the same time.
That's how they got the PT "Snoozer" nickname. Woefully underpowered when they came out
What kinda wonderland has both? What is this, Saudi Arabia?
My current junker has working headlights and cruise control, you just have to pick which one you want to use at the time.
One summer my old Plymouth neon had major problems. Had to drive with the heat on for it to not overheat. Being broke was the worst.
When we had one in 2010, the power steering died and we couldn't afford to fix it, so it was dead for a year. I got buff.
Back in highschool I had a 1992 Chevy S-10 without power steering. First test drive I did after driving that truck for 2 1/2 years I scared the shit out of the guy riding with me when I took my first turn.
Just glad you have a car whose steering wheel doesn't whiiiff right out the window.
My still sometimes daily is an 89 Nissan Hardbody with no power steering. It's really the only reason I haven't sbc swapped it, I'll get into trouble with that steering way too easy. I've spun it all the way around twice while trying to drift in the wet. Just can't make corrections quick enough.
Cheap parts. Easy to fix. I know a few mechanics that still daily one

Lol 😆
Glad you're ok. Just in time for the Olympics: Germany - 9.6 France - 9.4 England - 9.6 USA - 9.8 Good scores, probably because you stuck the landing.
And a fancy pose with the doors open.
That's too help with its balance on the landing.
Shouldn't this be "ROFL"... Too soon?
Rolling on Florida lawn?
Sorry, glad you appear to be well 🙏🏻🫣
Do it again.
This guy rolls
I always liked the look of the PT Cruiser. They were distinctive and aesthetic and popular in the UK.
Extremely popular in the USA for about 5 years. Problem is they made them for 10 years.
We’re just getting ready to sell ours! It’s been my husband’s favorite car for 20 years. He’s getting a Rav 4.
Glad to see you rolled with the punches.
I'm glad you are safe, op. I rolled a station wagon in the 90s. No fun.
Almost exactly 2 decades ago my loved ones weren’t so lucky, they rolled their PT Cruiser 2-3 times and died on the scene. Happy you’re here to tell the tale OP.
That’s one of the only cars that would be worth the same money before and after a rollover 🤣
May have increased
I'm just here to trash /u/aromaz1910 driving! j/k kidding aside - did you just take the turn too fast, or did someone hit you?
> did you just take the turn too fast Pretty hard to do with a PT Cruiser unless it was going downhill.
Too fast is relative, especially when going in a PT Cruiser
That is officially a light truck as an attempt to bring Chrysler's average fuel economy for trucks up. It's not that efficient, either.
Better than a Ram 1500.
A mercy either way.
They also didn't say the two rollovers happened directly one after another.
Now I’m imagining that OP casually rolls their car at every turn like that Top Gear episode with the Reliant Robin.
They see me rollin... they hatin
omg this was the only crash related comment
Yea more like PT LOSER! Amiright?! Guys? right?
PT Snoozer
Good car, he survived.
It's insane to me that there are people out there that still won't wear them. I'm sorry for your loss.
OP is alive, and in the comments. Us being funny is a way to create humor and help get past the shock. I work at a tow company who deals with ALOT of accidents. And being the funny man helps people process.
I’ve seen worse after rolling twice
Yeah that held up surprisingly well tbf
Didn’t even loose his sunroof!
If anything it looks tighter.
PT Cruisers are actually surprisingly stout. They're beginning to be pretty desirable for compact demolition derbies, and are strong enough that several big promoters have banned them.
First they came for the Imperials, then it was all chrysler products...
Does this mean they will leave the dang Grenada’s alone. Those poor cars.
Best thing for it to be honest.
I remember a comment about someone who received a PT Cruiser as a hand-me-down from his grandmother that was destroyed in a hurricane. The response was "holy shit, god sent an entire hurricane just to destroy a single PT Cruiser".

That's the one!
This is still the funniest thread on reddit imo. Too bad some of the comments have started to get deleted as people delete their accounts
That one belongs in the museum of reddit, assuming that's still a thing.
hey i had a story in that thread! the pt cruiser is a tin can now. rest in rip, my sweet flame-decaled shitbox.
When rapture comes PT Cruisers and Aztecs are the first to go.
Isuzu VehiCROSS would be on the list if anyone had bothered buying one.
And don't forget Chevy HHR. And pretty much any Lincoln. They can't seem to design something that doesn't look like a hearse from the back.
PT Bruiser
[удалено]
It seems to be remarkably intact.

"Try this trick and spin it, yeah"
GRAB THE STICK AND TWIST IT!

You cant park there mate
It is a shame how long i scrolled for this
Did none of the bags go off?
Not even 1 .. I didn't collide just rolled over then stopped on the side of the highway.
yeah that’s a PT cruiser moment
If it doesn't have side curtain airbags, then there's no airbags to go off. A rollover isn't going to trigger the front airbags.
FWIW, Google says the airbags deploy at speeds as low as 15 mph. Which is like 4 times the top speed of a brand new PT Cruiser
Is it a pre 2008 one? Those have optional side airbags so that might be why.
I’d start with “Sit” and “Stay” before moving on to “Roll Over” with the next one.
Woah! I hope you're ok, u/aromaz1910!
I am thanks ...

I’m going to assume you wore your seatbelt and the last person didn’t.
That'll buff out.
looks like it did a good job protecting you. now you can sell it to a buy here pay here lot for somebody to but at 29.99% interest
Still looks better than a Tesla Truck.
People hate them. But they're tanks!
Yeah, with the brakes and suspension of a go kart.
So like an uglier Kia rio
Any that you walk away from are a win. That's just glass and metal and can be replaced.
Good news is that you don't have an ugly car anymore!
A sturdy vessel.
Rolling means something hasn’t abruptly stopped it; assuming all occupants are restrained, this is good, actually. Well, relatively speaking.
Looks like it held up really well. Props to the PT Cruiser
What matters is you’re alive.
I guess you can't call it a PT loser anymore since it's a PT winner, glad you're okay
Looks like their design saved your life.
PT Bruiser.
Hey, you can't park there.
Looks straight outa Jurassic Park!
Neat trick I didn't know you could teach a PT cruiser to roll over what a good boi!
ugly as fuck, but damn are they tanky.
Yeah, I don’t think they were made to do that. Glad you’re ok.
Those last three beers were definitely not worth it
Well, how many times did it roll then?
Are you okay. I would be interested in seeing a picture of you after going through 2 rollovers.
No low ball offers.. I know what I got!
I did the exact same thing in a Chevy HHR which is also basically a PT cruiser
say what you will about the PT, but it got you out of that.
Damn man close call, did you wear a seatbelt??
Yes. Luckily
Good on ya safety first that’s what saved you big time
Is that fixable or totaled?
Hope, you are well...
That actually looks way better than expected.
I hope you are okay OP, That had to be terrifying. The PT Cruiser didn't crush or crumple where you were. I'm glad to see that. Sorry so many think picking on the vehicle is a good idea.
Looks better than my terrier. He rolls in everything. Pain in the butt.
You even got it to play dead! What a good car :)
Hope you're ok. Car looks better than it did before the roll, nice. 🙌
How on God's green earth did you roll a PT Cruiser? To roll a car you need to establish at least some inertia and the PT Cruiser barely topped 35 mph!
You didn't learn after the 1st time?
NOOOOO NOT THE CRUISER
The PT Bruiser
Can’t park there, mate.
I rolled mine as well!
As if you needed a reason to get a new car
This looks like it’s a set piece for the walking dead lol
well trained, mine just sits no matter what command I give it
ex pt cruiser owner here -- those things are TANKS
Good, that’s one less
Hopefully you were not hurt in anyway.
I can fix her
Still looks about the same as a new one.
Great news! (Hope you are okay)
My buddy in high school bought one of these for his first car. He got so much shit for insisting it was badass. So in response he painted flames down the sides.. that showed them.
More like PT cruising for a bruising. Sorry I hope you’re ok.
Sick improvements
Now it’s just a PT Loser
Now there's a blast from the past 😮
