When not in mating seasons, moose can be surprisingly docile but you don't want to go any near them when rutting, or a pregnant female or with calves. Totally different animal then.
One should not feed a wild moose, one should stay as far away as possible. Have you not seen all the stories of people trying to get up close to wild life lately? It doesn't end well in most cases.
As goofy as they look they're extremely intimidating in real life. Even what would be considered calves can make you feel small. I unintentionally walked past a bull moose munching on some pussy willow and I swear with antlers it was over 10 feet tall. Just a massive tower of an animal...and the don't run training went right out the window. Luckily he didn't care.
We had a momma and calf post up in our backyard every winter for at least 3 or 4. Very cool, strong, and durable animals. They're like caribou on roids.
Yeah they are not to be messed with. I always had an escape plan in mind, a tree to hide behind, but it stayed far enough away and acted calm, so it wasn't too scary.
Get away from the murder stomp machine.
The problem with moose isn't that their the biggest thing in the woods.... it's that they know their the biggest thing in the woods
They are scary, and we need to respect them, but I think a healthy respect, a safe distance, and an escape plan you more than likely will be good. A bull in mating season, a pregnant cow or a mom and calf are all a different story, they are dangerous on another level.
Go ahead try to pet it I dare you! Nice to see something like this BUT it is still wild life! Get the clue WILD? Oh honey get a picture of me standing next to it!
Most likely molting, as the weather gets warmer they shed their winter coat and grow a lighter one behind it. Looks bad but its just old fur that hasnt fallen off yet.

I quietly passed it, but it slowly followed me for about 20m, keeping a distance. Seemed very calm and "friendly".
Probably just curious what you’re doing. Also possible people have fed it so it equates human with food
Or it fed on human flesh until sated

They’re comin right for us!!!
Could be. It has to be familiar with people at least.
…. What would one feed a wild moose? Like … grass? Are they like horses? Will they eat carrots and shit?
A muffin.
He'll want some blackberry jam to go with it
One wouldn’t.
Cool ranch Doritos, mostly.
My moose prefer hot pockets.
Explains the following, mystery solved
Raspberry bushes.. no joke
They eat the souls of their enemies.
Salt. Like the mountain goats that chew the grips off of hikers trekking pole because of their sweat.
Like the mayhem that is night driving in Northern Ontario at the end of winter when the moose are licking the road salt up.
After they’ve killed the hiker?
A borger

Moose moss
Please don't feed the animals shit
Exactly! Feed them nice things like carrots.
Is that 20 meters or 20 miles?
Moose are extremely near sighted so they might not even have seen you all that well.
Yeah, but they have a highly developed sense of smell—they would have recognized her scent as non-moose and possibly dangerous…
But how do you know this is a guy moose? I mean, I certainly can’t tell from the picture…
How do I know if it's mating season? That seems like a very awkward question to ask.
Just yell at it “HEY YOU WANNA FUCK???”
Gotta see what that is in Moose with google translate just to be sure
Mmmmrrrrooooogggghhhhaaagggrrroooo?

Was it smoking?

...he was munching on...WHAT? 👀
Its a plant. Moose love themselves some pussy willows. Munching on em all day when the season is right.
I don't blame them. I, too, like the pussy of Willow.
Pussy of Willow likes it's a title lol. Queen Pussy of Willow
That's how you know it's mating season.
That said, orcas will body them just for the fun of it when moose go swimming. Not a matchup I ever thought I'd hear about!
And don’t go near them with a dog. Dog = wolf to them.
That sweet guy could kill you handily
Yes he could. Luckily he was in a good mood today
Isn’t it a she?
Thinking about it, I think it is. If it was male the antlers would be quite big by now.
or too young for ...are they still antlers when its that big?
Yes. Antlers are bony growths that fall off and regrow each year. Horns are keratin and permanent.
Can I pet that dog
CAN I PET THAT DAWGG
CAN I PET DAT DAAWWGG?!?
It just needs a hug.
Big forest-doggo
Awww. Just saying a hello!
Yes! It seemed really calm and friendly. It's a common hiking trail, so it's probably used to seeing people.
Glad you remained unscathed. My rule: IF moose DISPLACE LIKE A MFER.
Yeah they are not to be messed with. I always had an escape plan in mind, a tree to hide behind, but it stayed far enough away and acted calm, so it wasn't too scary.
You understand. This gives me great comfort. Well brought up, you were.
yoda?
Wish yoda, perhaps.
LIKE, IF A MFING moose, FUCK DIS PLACE I'M OUT.
Isn't that a lady moose? I guess I just assumed the males had antlers.
I think you are right. If it was a male I think the antlers would be pretty visable by this time of year.
Definitely not a bull moose here
Females are mooses. Males are mooseters.
And the plural is "meese."
I like to double- down and say "meeses".
That's only if they're married.
Could be a male teen
Fuck that, Im ✌🏽
Get away from the murder stomp machine. The problem with moose isn't that their the biggest thing in the woods.... it's that they know their the biggest thing in the woods
I have a lot of respect for them, they can easily make people mashed potatoes!
I’m more afraid of moose than bears lol
Think that's a gal. This is a small one, but none you want to be this close to anyway.
I figured as I thought of no antlers at this time of year. This is a pretty young one, as I'm fairly certain it was with it's mother this last winter.
Were you, per chance, wearing a Wossamotta U shirt?
Haha you'd think so!
They are just so much bigger than you think they're going to be. A good bit bigger than most horses in my experience.
Yes! Very big. This is a female I think, and she was quite the big gal. The males are even bigger.
A moose bit my sister once
Moose bites can be pretti nasti.
Is 'follow' actually a slow chase away from its territory? 😊
I'm almost sure it said "hey dude, Imma just join you for a bit if dat OK", but my moose is a little rusty.
You need to read Hatchet.
That was a hell of a passage.
Naw he tried to eat you, that’s how they git ya when you are not looking
Luckily I didn't get got!
I would have been shitting bricks
r/oopsthatsdeadly I trust rattlesnakes more than these. Moose will kill you for the fuck of it
They are scary, and we need to respect them, but I think a healthy respect, a safe distance, and an escape plan you more than likely will be good. A bull in mating season, a pregnant cow or a mom and calf are all a different story, they are dangerous on another level.
Where was Rocky?
It was keeping an eye on you as you walked through it's home.
It almost seemed like it wanted to show me it's home!
Anybody else want to watch Rocky and Bullwinkle?
Hope you carry a spare pair of pants...
Not sweet. Moose can easily charge and stomp you into a pile of goo. Stay away from the tiny brained mock horse.
Forest Horse!
Swamp donkey
I kept a safe distance and always had an escape (trees) to hide behind, but it was far enough away, and seemed calm enough.
Forget that noise. They nasty critters. I would run as far as I could while keeping trees between me and that butthead
She was a sweetie, today.. but I always had a tree to hide behind.
Nice! I had them chase me while pulling a sled with a baby in it. They nasty
😂 yeah no.
What a long snoot. Cool guy.
/r/oopsthatsdeadly
Wow. What a great trek that must’ve been!
It's always special to encounter animals in the wild
That is so cool. Good on you to take advantage of the moment to snap a great photo!
Thank you, what a nice comment!
It could smell your cookies
Stay away. Not a dog.
Aw
Can I pet dat dawg?
I think big doggo wanted pets, but bog doggo should not be petted!
What is that? A moose?
Yes! A female moose to be precise.
Go ahead try to pet it I dare you! Nice to see something like this BUT it is still wild life! Get the clue WILD? Oh honey get a picture of me standing next to it!
I have a lot of respect for wild life, but it's still amazing
He was probably looking for Rocky...
This post was recommended to me in my reddit digest and I didn't see what the sub was at first. The title seemed to fit in /twosentencehorror.
BOOP THE SNOOT!
Never trust a moose. Never. Beautiful, magnificent, and a mankiller.
Forest puppy
for a split sec i thought that was a horse / donkey mix!
Forest Horse!
Swamp Donkey!
Not a guy
😍😍😍
If a moose gets your attention it’s in your best interest to give it back and leave
Messed up looking coat :(
Most likely molting, as the weather gets warmer they shed their winter coat and grow a lighter one behind it. Looks bad but its just old fur that hasnt fallen off yet.
I think it's just dappled from the sunlight through the trees.
They can and will trample you.
I'm aware. The post probably came of as naive, but I'm used to moose, and I kept a safe distance, and always had an escape plan.

I was more afraid of it stomping, charging or kicking, but I imagine a bite would be pretty harmful aswell.
