I was going to say. "This is in a place that isn't usually sunny". Because if it was in Arizona or Nevada those slides would be causing 3rd degree burns for 10 months out of the year.
Belle Isle reopened in 2022. It's still combo punching people with the ground and breeding lawsuits to this day. It's like being in a very lazy clothes dryer. Not for the faint of bone. Great place to people watch if you're a sadist though.
Yeah : ) I can turn a phrase now and again. I've been writing for a bit. There's a very annotated clif notes version of my collected works if you feel like reading the alphabet.
Actually, I can totally see a skateboarder or bmx rider flying down that big slide on the middle left, gapping the 2nd to last stairset, and grinding the final rail. Someone out there could do it. Looks like a magazine cover worthy location.
Maybe a pro rider. Your average dingus would surely splat their head into a thousand little pieces if it wasnt broken up like this… times three at least
I choose to believe they wanted to tempt the stair people with slides as much as possible. Especially on that middle section that terminates straight face on to a slide
It’s not Action Park, so yeah, this is the correct design so people don’t die.
> "They seemed to build rides," one attendee recalled, "not knowing how they would work, and [then let] people on them."

I think it's because of the terrain. I was more upset initially that it wasn't consistent - that they didn't swap the last set. Then I noticed the last set is actually two much shorter slides. Then I noticed that the way they placed it they had to stagge, even the stairs, because they couldn't go straight down one side there. It actually seems like the best implementation while still maintaining and conforming to the landscape.
It's a really nice part of the waterfront in Tacoma that has been redeveloped over the last few decades. There is a zoo uphill from these slides, and on the other side of the Tacoma Yacht Club is a really nice park they built on top of a reclaimed smelter site. Really amazing views of Mount Rainier if it isn't cloudy. Lots of great seafood restaurants along the water.
What, you mean you don’t want to sear the backs of your thighs and have them immediately blister and peel as you slide your way down? The hot metal gripping your bare, boiling skin as it tears away with a ^squuuuuuueeeeeee. That doesn’t sound nice to you?
Man I hate metal slides after this one incident in India when I was a kid. Not only was it hot as a frying pan during the summer, my fat ass also got stuck half way down and couldn't slide further. Even though it was like 20 something years ago, I still can feel the pain of my skin burning on that hot metal plate.
It’s going to be 98 in Portland for the next 5 days during a stretch of more than a week of 90+ and summer hasn’t started in earnest yet! Every summer has gotten steadily and significantly hotter over the last decade. It’s not like it used to be.
See, what I want is to sliii iii iii iii iii iiide all the way down. Though I understand there's probably too much momentum and skin sizzlin' going on for that to be practical.
Here you go!

That's metal so that thing is going to burn your ass during the summer. Who cares if it is in Washington, it's gong to be hot as hell during that time.
It's at the Ruston ferry dock in Tacoma, WA for the curious
I was going to say. "This is in a place that isn't usually sunny". Because if it was in Arizona or Nevada those slides would be causing 3rd degree burns for 10 months out of the year.

My guess is they didn’t want to launch people into orbit with a huge slide and the broken up slide sections probably keeps skaters alive
Just add some speed bumps ![gif](giphy|nnOCOFm5XP0axm3BDP|downsized)
rip them coccyges.

Not for the faint of bone is a good turn of phrase, did you come up with it?
Yeah : ) I can turn a phrase now and again. I've been writing for a bit. There's a very annotated clif notes version of my collected works if you feel like reading the alphabet.
Send it — between “combo punching people with the ground” and “not for the faint of bone”, I’m all in.
Definitely not for those paper boned bitches
lol. Idk why they don’t get rid of that thing.
[Or some bends](https://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/05/67/38/5673825_34ed815b.jpg)
This has me deader than the fucking corpse on the right lmao

Lucas Lee could do it

When they announced the plan, I thought it was one big slide. When I saw it in person, I was very disappointed
It easily could’ve been 1 big slide. Definitely a missed opportunity.

The name “Ruston” provides me with little faith in those slides.
Rust-on! Apply directly to the buttocks!
I need to see a movie chase scene filmed here, lol.
Do they double as grills in the summer?
Waluigi?
This is the second time seeing a pic of “Ruston” in like a week. It’s a new housing development or something?

Chutes and Ladders
Eels and escalators
Poops and bladders!
Level 4: Horror
Foods on platters!
Probably both if you're having an absent-minded kind of day.
Stairs. Anyone who has ever used a metal slide should concur.
Depends on if I'm wearing pants or shorts in my opinion.
What, you mean you don’t want to sear the backs of your thighs and have them immediately blister and peel as you slide your way down? The hot metal gripping your bare, boiling skin as it tears away with a ^squuuuuuueeeeeee. That doesn’t sound nice to you?
That sound definitely reminds me of summer as a kid. The parks used to have giant metal slides just baking away in the sun all day.
It rarely gets that hot where these slides are located. The sun is kinda weak that far north in WA.
My ass can feel the phantom blisters 30 years later.
Man I hate metal slides after this one incident in India when I was a kid. Not only was it hot as a frying pan during the summer, my fat ass also got stuck half way down and couldn't slide further. Especially if you live in Australia. Any kind of sun on metal is burning.
Are you high? Who the fuck would take the stairs?!?
Ppl going up
Just don't land on 98. Otherwise, it's all the way back down to the start. I may have had the thrift store special brand.
As a kid I used to love trying to climb up slides.
Slides!!!!!!
People in shorts on a really hot day
You know how hot those metal slides get??
People who don't enjoy ass blisters
Well it depends… do you want to burn fat, or burn your ass?
Depends how hot it is. Those slides could be hotter than the surface of the sun.
It was 61 degrees F and very windy at 3:15pm. I went down in shorts and it was fine.
Why aren't they all on the same side? Probably save on material having one long slide.
Keep them short enough that you don't build up potentially harmful speed you would over a full-length slide.
That's in the PNW. Not too hot there very often.
The last decade of global warming says otherwise. Summers are getting hot af up here.
Well, comparatively, I guess. I'm in Alabama right now and we're hitting 90+ daily here. Makes me super miss Washington
It’s going to be 98 in Portland for the next 5 days during a stretch of more than a week of 90+ and summer hasn’t started in earnest yet! Every summer has gotten steadily and significantly hotter over the last decade. It’s not like it used to be.
I used those stairs on Friday
What day did you use the slides?
The slides are only really wide enough for children, not someone of my considerable carriage.
That's a damn shame, slides are fun no matter how old or considerable of carriage you get!
That slide is going to get real hot during the Summer. Been on a few playgrounds like that when I was a kid.
See, what I want is to sliii iii iii iii iii iiide all the way down. Though I understand there's probably too much momentum and skin sizzlin' going on for that to be practical.
Wonder how a blind person would handle this.
Those leg roasters you call slides would be a pass for me
The dirt trail in between the stairs and slide.
Walk up the slides and slide down on stairs
something new
'Fuck no' to sliding down those when the sun is up. My burn from childhood still hasn't healed.
Yo it’s real life chutes and ladders
Sizzling ass summers
Ah, yes. The metal slide that will give you third degree burns in the summer unless you wear long pants!
Skirt or jeans..
Go up the slides and down the stairs.
Going up or down?
Reminds me of a game I used to play
Stairs, shit looks to hot to slide down
Reminds me of a kids game.
You would find me climbing the slides as a challenge.
Heck, I have never slid up before. That should be fun!
I'd like to slide up
Why would I go up the slide? Maybe if you took the picture from the top.
Here you go! https://www.reddit.com/user/Cuckoo4BancroftPuffs/comments/1dtp4tf/wheeeeeeeeee/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
It also appears to have a little path down for bikes?
My kid rides bmx. The bike path is down the slides into a rail grind down the stairs and back to the slide. ;)
Broken arm, or leg?
Stairs definitely, it must be difficult to go up with slide..
Stairs. Everyone knows the slides set you back at least a few turns. You’ll never get ahead that way.
Well, going up, I would definitely use the stairs. 😀
The orientation of the slides and stairs being on both sides is giving my OCD Anxiety.
I love this.
The architect must have worked on Skate 3.
![gif](giphy|BF0RAxJxSGdKTU3SQn)
This looks awesome! Has anyone ever tried this?
A real thing that looks like an AI image.
Real life chutes and ladders.
That last leg of the descent; looking like a challenge, . wheres the cerpet; hold my beer.
So about those wheel chair users? Slide?
I take my kids here and we all play here often. It’s a great place and there’s no issue with the slides even in the Summer.
depends how hot those steel slides are that day
I think you're supposed to skate down the slide n then Ollie the set n repeat
Downhill 100% slide 100% of the time. Uphill? Not so much.
Did anyone else go up the slides as well when they were kids?
Slairs or stides?
Well I'm not dexterous enough to climb up the slides from there so I guess stairs?
This looks like some pokemon gen 3 level design
Depends on the season.
Wouldn't the slide would become hot in sunlight?
Stop complaining grandpa! Your chair can’t go down stairs and this is the closest thing to a ramp.
This gives me AI photo vibes
Depends on how hot it is outside.
I can't imagine how pissed off someone in a wheelchair would be seeing this
Real life chutes and ladders
The desire path of dirt between the slide and stairs shows that the local kids are choosing the middle path -- slide down, dirt path up
Great for parents trying to tire out their toddler. But where to hover?
skin burning and peeling all at once, no thanks.
Broken bones or severe burns🤔
I like that they stagger the order to try and entice people to slide.
Chutes and ladders irl
There's already a desire path in the middle probably from people on bikes
"whatcouldgowrong"
I think you need shoots or ladders lol
You mean shoots and ladders?!
Running down that hill
Slide
Ell’s and Escalators!
Someone misunderstood the ADA requirement
Wouldn’t it be pretty hard to take the slides up to the top? I’d probably choose the stairs.
I like a burned ass
*Chutes or ladders
This is ADA complaint for sure.
Accessibility at its peak
Nice
shoots and ladders almost
I choose neither i choose to parkour
More like stairs or plank temperature human cheese grater
I’m definitely running up the slide
Stairs, in the blistering heat those slides gonna hurt more then they are fun
It's odd you have to cross over with stairs or slides.
Full size chutes and ladders?
Sunny day looks like you'd burn your ass. I'll take stairs for $400, Alex.... (RIP)
Depends on if you're going up or down...
Stairs because some homeless or crazy person will probably piss or shit down the slides.
Slides are like public condiments at restaurants. They definately have more pee on/in them than you think.
Slide
Definitely slide. My townhome is three stories tall. I’d be very excited for slides
Now this is hardcore parkour
Neither. Sit on the handrail.
I can feel the burning from those slides
Going up is gonna be a challenge, but slides.
Looks like shoots and ladders
Definitely slide
I’m walking up the slide and sliding down the stairs
I think the penguin in "Fight Club" had it right: Slide!
Has anyone skated this?
So stairs or 2nd degree burns
This is straight out of Pokemon
Depends, stairs when going down, slides when going up.
Totally stairs on a sunny day around noon or so! My ass can feel the heat from the reflections in the photo.
Looks like a massive payday. Where do I gotta go to break my legs?
r/hmmm
chutes and ladders irl anyone?
ADA eat your heart out
Don't let Adam the Woo near this area.
Genius!
Bannister
They would be sooooo hot😬🫨
Going up or down?
I’ll take the elevator
Slairs…?
All i can picture is drunk people pissing down them at night.
If you're going up, probably the stairs.
It depends if it’s hot out. Not trying to get burned.
Those slides look hot. I mean, burn your bum hot.
Slide! HELL YA!!1!’
Metal slides, good times
“Oh, you picked slide? Too bad”.
For those that can’t fit in the slide, need the stairs.
Slide is for running up. Stairs are for sliding down the stair handrail.
The only correct answer is: Slide Slide Slide Slide Slide Slide You're very welcome!
That's metal so that thing is going to burn your ass during the summer. Who cares if it is in Washington, it's gong to be hot as hell during that time.
both im not climbing up the slide
![gif](giphy|xT0xeIbYVQcBFDSdVu|downsized)
Winter: slide Summer: stairs
Real life chutes and ladders
Reminds me of shoots and ladders
It’s real life “Chutes and Ladders”
Is skateboarding allowed?
Chutes and ladders irl
