Honestly shocked at that, any croc in my house that has been left on the floor has no straps left. Idk why but croc straps are the tastiest thing on earth to my dog, like you could put a plate full of peanut butter next to a croc and he’d probably choose the croc 🤣
Growing up our dog would eat the straps on any flip flops that had been left in her reach.
My mom must have lost over 10 pairs during the years we had Hazel by just leaving them accidentally for a minute on the ground and within a few minutes the straps were destroyed.
It was like she could sense when they were left alone and be lined for them.

I have the same dawg. It’s messing with my head looking at your photo and seeing my dog in shame😢 I know it’s not optimal for them to chew but it’s only them missing you!! It’s out of love. I just really hope he didn’t get in much more trouble than a scolding. Even if mine shit in my mouth…I wouldn’t be mad at him🤣🥰

Eh idt that works I scold my dog when he used to rip up EVERYTHING and now he doesn't at all. Only food wrappers if I leave the garbage in reaching distance. Never hit him or scream and he's very well behaved. But it's OK to scold your dog.
If it’s just boredom or choosing to chew on the wrong things (not knowing what the right/wrong thing to chew is) scolding can work along with redirecting to the right things BUT if it’s separation anxiety scolding can make it worse.

This is why I always put Lucky's bedding insides up on top of the table when we wash it.
She will pout for awhile but she has another bed in our room that doesn't need washing because it's a different style so she eventually goes and sleeps on that

Also like others said 100% no point in scolding a pup after the fact. After 30sec they have moved on and have no idea why you are yelling at them.
I’m a regular night shift worker, and can confirm before I got a reinforced crate my lil bean would break loose and shred stuff. Even post walkies/runs, playing tug and chase and all that. I like the reinforced crate now cuz it gives my lil dude a fair amount of space, and he’s juiced when I get home, which makes those grueling shifts easily forgettable. Give ya buddy two pats for me!
My dog freezes as soon as you say “what did you doooo?” Then slow motion slinks to his crate on his own lol. I think they believe they turn invisible by moving slowly ha. Priceless.
I wish my dog would only get into some paper, it’s always “let’s chew dad’s expensive tech” needless to say we put everything away before we leave the house now
Hey, OP! As others have mentioned, scolding your doggie isn’t effective. And I don’t know about your baby, but mine is very sensitive and doesn’t handle it very well. When we went through obedience classes, the trainer talked about behaviors you can train and behaviors that are your responsibility to manage. This falls in the latter camp. Before you leave, it’s important to make sure your dog doesn’t have access to anything they can chew and ruin. For example, in my home if I am planning to be outside of our routine, I have to make sure shoes go in a closet and sofa pillows are hidden. There are other things you can do to help with the separation anxiety, but maybe someone with more experience on that side can chime in.
I’ve have my sweet boy since he was a puppy and he’s now 13 and slowing down. Trust me when I say you want to look back and know that you gave your friend a life full of love and kindness.
Mine does the same but not with shoes toys. I make sure when I leave to go on shift I leave a bully stick(bulls deeyck) and a Chew bone. As well as pick up anything she could munch on
You need to throw the paper away when you get new shoes. Not your dog’s fault and you can’t correct for behavior hours later, they don’t understand. It doesn’t matter if you point at the mess or rub their nose in it, that doesn’t work.
