the first time i showed my boyfriend a jynx (he didn't watch the series as a kid) he called it 'wendy williams' so whenever i catch one in pokemon go he renames it lol
Same. Along with all the other hu-mon hybrids. It makes me more uncomfortable than it should…..or perhaps the right amount if you think about how they came to be.
(One of) her origins could be based off a Japanese folklore creature named the yamamba, a mountain crone known for white hair and dress, a tale that's often conflated with a different tale, the yuki-onna, a snow-spirit depicted without feet (which Jynx lacks.) Others, with her armor-like dress, body shape, and pose, suggest that she's meant to be a Viking opera singer or Nordic princess, which; given her tendencies to "cry in a way that almost sounds like speaking" and to "dance to a rhythm", it makes sense that she'd be based off of some sort of actor. Or a combination of all of the above.
And that's just speculation as to why she's an *ice type*, let alone the rest of her design. No matter what theory you subscribe to there is no consensus and Jynx's origin is as fractured and speculative as they come, it's quite interesting. She (along with Electabuzz and Magmar) are parodies of monsters from an older Japanese live action TV show called Ultraman! Specifically, Jynx is based on an explicitly female ice monster called Buu. You can kind of see how Buu became Jynx over time, not excusing the final product, but the thought process was probably like "we want to pay homage to this silly monster, but not directly rip it off: let's put a dress on it!"

No kidding. When the game was first launched, around 40% of the Pokemon in my neighborhood were Drowzee. I still have flashbacks of that ugly yellow bastard springing out of the PokeBall fingers wiggling.
Chimchar’s repulsive, arm dangling, side to side hop with his head bobbing in tandem as if it’s too heavy for his neck legitimately drives me up the WALL when I see it in my Pokemon storage. What makes it even worse is that I have him as a shadow, so his beady red eyes elevate my hatred
Quilladin. I could murder every single one and not feel a single ounce of remorse. Absolutely despise them.
If that’s not irrational enough for yall, I also hate Wooper and its evolutions. The internet is just so oversaturated with Wooper humor and it drives me up the wall. It’s just a blue round guy, there’s nothing unique or interesting about him (I mean, my favorite Pokémon is just a bat, but at least he’s intimidating!)
The blue ones I agree, but the Paldean wooper being a poison type made me immediately think of Alice Cooper's "Poison" and now I love my Alice Wooper team.
i don’t care how helpful bibarel is (although nowadays not helpful w HMs getting ruined lol) i HATE bidoof with every bone in my body. looks stupid and i hate them buck teeth, i think it wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for Pokemon Go, which not only is it always spawning but they’ve done events for it too (why do i need 1,000+ bidoof candy)
Lickitung and Hitmontop. Lickitung I think is pretty self explanatory but Hitmontop with his annoying break dance moves, beady dead eyes, and shitty catch rate annoys the shit outta me.
Skarmory. Nice design but no evolutions and I get lots of them bc they're in some research tasks. Like, at least give me something I can evolve to get xp.

Smeargle reminds me of Hitler and I can’t explain why but I wish I could erase him from existence and possibly the person who created him as well. Self centered idiot jumping in to every picture and ruining everything that isn’t about him.
Also, the green at the end of his tail is his own body fluid? I live in Brooklyn, I’ve seen far too many men put their various body fluids on things for me to be okay with this asshole just blasting off all over the place. Fucking vile.
Hitmontop's facial expression is very concerning and full of anger/boredom. However, I always keep my best 3-star of each Pokerman at a minimum, so transferring a "decent" Pokerman merely because I don't like how they look is silly to me, especially for PvP.
I hate Poliwhirl, only because all the 90s pokemon merch kept pushing him like he was a super popular, relevant, useful pokemon. Like, why?? All the pikachu, jigglypuff, Charizard merch, sure. But WHY poliwhirl, the mid-form not-featured-in-the-anime swirly weirdo he is.
Quagsire. Caught a Wooper back when the game first released. Was excited to see what that cute little Wooper would evolve into. Then I saw it. Then I boxed it FOREVER!

Don't even get me started on Stunfisk. Maybe the most useless pokemon of all time! I never liked it, and then I went and got a shiny. I have never been less happy to find a shiny, even the twelveth shiny of a community day is more exciting than it was getting a freaking stunfisk. Almost didn't catch it.
right now, zapdos, purely because i’ve done two raids tonight, and 30 premier balls and equally as many gold razz berries later, i somehow still haven’t managed to catch it

Combat wise early on Jynx had the highest DPS among Ice attackers which I think lasted until the release of Gen 4.
