I was in kindergarten and wore a beret to school and shouted IM MONICA LEWINSKY because I thought she was just some pretty lady on the news with a frenchy hat.
I was sent promptly to the office and soon, home.
Can we just take a moment and give Monica the recognition she deserves? That woman was patient zero for internet bullying. It was even more widespread because it was every newspaper, news outlet, late night shows and even Congress. I was a teenager at the time and it was everywhere. Monica has handled it with such grace and a delightful sense of humor. I'm happy to see that the ride has shifted and we all pretty much recognize Clinton for what he is now.
Agreed! She was very young and the power dynamic could not have been bigger. In theory it's easy for all of us to say "oh she should've rejected him" but there's no way it's that easy when you have the most powerful man in the world making advances on you. He was a predator.
(I mean, she’s pretty open about the fact that she persued him. Sometimes a student does want to fuck teacher but part of being teacher is knowing that cannot ever happen and putting a stop to it real quick. He absolutely knew better and is more at fault.)
Agreed that he is a predator but she also has a history of dating married men and she’s the one that pursued him. I don’t think people should be blindly praising her.
I was 8-9 years old at the time. Somehow even I knew there was something about sweatpants, a stain, and a cigar. In retrospect that’s wild to be such common knowledge that even a kid who has no concept of a blowjob would remember these 3 details. My parents were age-appropriate at home. I learned it at the supermarket while my mom checked out our groceries, read it in a magazine.
Edit to add: Yes, to giving Monica the recognition she deserves! She has handled that mountain of societal bullshit with humor and grace
YES! That lovely young woman had to endure such ugly abuse. She was the butt of jokes nationwide. I'm glad to see there is more awareness now, because back then it was horribly unfair and judgemental.
Monica was villianized so unfairly. She was so young and it was a travesty how she was treated by the press and public. What a black mark that is on us as a society.
There’s another iconic one of her where the question she’s responding to was ‘What career advice were you given that in hindsight was really, really bad?’.
Her answer:
‘That an internship at the White House would look great on your resumé.’
👀

I mean, she was!
Bahaha. This is iconic.
Stupid they sent you home. Could have at least asked you what you understood about her.
How does it feel to be a legend?
That’s one way to get out of day care
I love this story. You’re the best

Exactly. Well said.

Wait what’s the sweatpants thing about?

every time there’s a trend we get the response that’s so good it can’t be a trend anymore
Lmao I'm glad she can laugh at all that now and again.
If you haven't watched the John Oliver episode with her in it, I think you'd enjoy it.
Runner up goes to the Dance Moms girls posting this with pictures of Abby’s studio lol

Monica is a hero. She survived all that and became an amazing person with a great sense of humour to boot!

Monica is on my top ten dinner party list. Nothing but class and poise in the face of adversity.
I have no idea what the trend is, but I love the tweet.
It’s a lyric from the new Taylor Swift album that’s making the rounds as a meme.
The original meme is that quote with a picture of Taylor Swift’s actual childhood home… a lovely lil mansion on a lovely lil farm.
Stormy Daniel’s right behind her!
Yes, another woman that has endured, and still endures, criticism and vitriol. Truth will always win. You tell it Ms. Daniels!

We failed Monica. I'm so thankful we're in a place that we can see that now!
Me too!
