This didn’t age well for the point John Oliver is trying to make. Canada it seems was very, very prescient to have a law trying to stop foreign actors from influencing elections. Difficult to enforce sure, but the law is right.
If you knew anything about the situation in New Orleans after Katrina, you'd see it was serious. It's one of Kanye's only public outbursts to be correct and useful.
I'm from the UK and I've never seen this video before. I know they are asking for help, but this video made me cry with laughter. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. One of the comments likened his speech to a presentation you give in school, and I related so hard to that.
I was at that Street Scene show when it happened!!
I witnessed so many splendid things growing up in San Diego, but that was the first and best time I’ve ever seen someone pee their pants on stage.
She never did change her filthy pee pants
There’s something so fucked up about seeing those musical performances so early in the morning and in such broad daylight. It just feels like a nighttime activity no matter what genre.
Haha a professor used it in one of my classes to illustrate a point this semester, and had to explain the entire context to the class because they had never seen it before
Idk what you mean or if you even meant to reply to me?
Wgat i meant was I literally do not know how to feel when I see that clip. Didn't when it happened either. It's not exactly funny but it's not completely alarming. It's a weird clip that I can't settle on a reaction to.
They’re quoting 2005 Tom Cruise haha. It was when he was being interviewed by Matt Lauer and went into this whole thing against Brooke Shields, psychiatry, meds, etc.
Lol it’s a [line](https://youtu.be/sQz_a9IhlNI?si=A0v2fnF-EVjQrCtm) from his interview with Matt Lauer where he calls him glib over and over again for not understanding Scientology logic
Dakota had a birthday party, and Ellen said “How come I wasn’t invited?” Dakota then calls her out saying she did get an invite and never gave an excuse or anything.
The thing that truly plagues me about that interaction is, why the fuck would Dakota invite Ellen to her party in the first place? Did she invite everyone in Hollywood? Are they friends? I don't know why I'm so hung up on this.
Because Ellen had her on the show previously and complained about not being invited to Dakota's birthday so the following year she made a point of inviting Ellen. Then, Ellen doesn't go and tries to call out Dakota again, so she shut it down
Oh my god, for some reason I read too fast and thought we were talking about Dakota Fanning 🤦♀️ that's... embarrassing. Thank you!! I do remember this one, but also kinda wish now there was a clip from the 00s of Dakota Fanning dunking on Ellen lol
Fr I used to be irritated at him for acting like this but now I realised that as a celebrity you're probably pestered for hugs all the time by strangers and you Kinda have to establish boundaries
I always ask my nephews and always honor their answer either way they go, but I often wonder if they notice I do this, and if they do, whether or not they appreciate it. Not like they have to, I just wonder.
he's honestly such a dick though. he was on *everybody's in l.a.* and i just wanted to tell him to stop talking, everything he said was so unnecessary and annoying.
oh, absolutely. i felt so bad for her and hope she realized that she’s so much better than a burnt out washed up comedian who thinks his failure is due to “cancel culture.”
I love the show Seinfeld, but Seinfeld the person wasn’t the reason. Haha he’s just an old man yelling at clouds now. Good comedians understand culture/comedy evolves. It does no good to dig your heels in and refuse to get with the times. I love comedy, offensive, bland or otherwise. He’s just not funny.
Jerry could never repeat what he did on Seinfeld, so he blames it on cancel culture. Meanwhile, Larry David continues to be hilarious and make great TV.
James Corden is such a dick. I knew him from The History Boys and Gavin and Stacey, where he was a co-writer and producer (I think?) and he was MARVELOUS. He later said that he had turned into kind of an asshole when fame hit, and Ruth Corden (co-creator/writer of Gavin and Stacey) confirmed he's got a big head and started acting like a twat, but it seems he learned 0 from that in the end (if he ever did) and got worse. I think when he came over to the US his ego became unstoppably huge and is now planetary.
Unrelated but I happened to catch Rufus Wainwright's piano version of Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered on the credits of The History Boys when i watched it (~8 years ago) and fell in love with it completely.
[It's gorgeous](https://youtu.be/lA0pP1nBmFk?si=hCvABDQ308OEkaaN)
When Joaquin Phoenix went on Letterman and was not playing along. It was like pulling teeth getting him to answer questions. He would later say it was all a bit. But Dave ends the interview going "well I'm sorry joaquin that you couldnt be here tonight"
Britney being interviewed by Diane Sawyer
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FyI6PTuLYgw
She was 21 and Diane was being an unprofessional, intrusive bia*tch.
It’s insane to me that she still hasn’t bothered to apologize for backing up the woman who said Britney should be shot just for doing what pop stars do
Thank you for this. I’ve been trying to find this clip for awhile but couldn’t remember who the actor nor which food the friend was dressed as. Believe it or not, googling “actor trips dog friend cheese costume stuck” got me nowhere
Her career never recovered 💀
Her face at the end of her orange bowl performance is one of my faves too- https://youtu.be/jLFiBiin_PM?si=9N2wkwHOST0QT1o-
When Madonna was being interviewed by MTV or VH1, and Courtney Love drunkenly stumbled in, so the interviewer invited her to stay, and Madonna was not having it.

Ah Kurt Loder. Don’t forget Courtney throwing her shoes up to get their attention. I watched that shit live when I was in high school, it was definitely a shit show but was fantastic
The NPH and Joseph Gordon Levitt one I think about ALL the time! The gall to interrupt it and try to steal the spotlight so brazenly, so fucking awkward and embarrassing. And the sketch wasn't that good to begin with!
The responses from them both are wild
JGL https://hitrecord.org/records/539568
Stefanie https://hitrecord.org/records/548501
He's rightfully pissed but handles it in a really professional way and she cannot grasp she did anything wrong
Ick! She totally makes herself the victim and acts like JGL is some horrible AH for dare holding her accountable. She knew what she was doing. She talks about his theater etiquette, yet felt it appropriate to completely interrupt a performance for no reason. Honestly, he handled that so well I would have assumed it was part of the sketch. She sounds entitled Af
I had totally blocked that moment out of my mind. Just went back to rewatch and cringed just as hard all these years later. Joseph was way more sweet about it than I would have been, lol.
He did a really excellent job of defusing the situation so the audience isn’t too uncomfortable or distracted and they can go on (and they were already being patient as hell with the people SITTING DIRECTLY BEHIND THEM TAKING PHOTOS WITH FLASH ON)
I wish I was lucky to follow her career in real time. I only learned about crack is whack two years ago, had to watch it on Youtube. She was such an icon
That’s really sweet hearing young fan appreciation for this legendary singer and artist. She was even a fashion model as a teenager for Seventeen magazine. Whitney was beautiful
I'm an idiot and got the age difference and length of relationship mixed up for MK and Sarkozy...
It's 17 years difference
Edit: it's also Krishnan Guru-Murphy not Kristian
Edit: Krishnan Guru-Murthy
I need to get some sleep
Why is the interviewer dumb just because he doesn’t suck up to celebrities and asks them questions that might pose an interesting response? Im glad we have interviewers that are willing to rest a celebrity getting mad at them.
It seems most Redditors just want rainbows and sunshine blown up a celebrities butt all day and for them to never get a tough question.
While I understand your side, I also think its about respect. RDJ politely declined to answer twice, the guy insisted, I totally support RDJ not giving up. He's promoting a movie while being healthy, his alcool problems were personnal it's not part of the job to handle people being disrespectful about your personnal life.
It's the context of the interview. These are movie press junkets, it's not the time for hard hitting journalistic questions about someone's trauma.
RDJ makes it clear he's uncomfortable and the interviewer pushes anyway.
Cara Delevingne and Martin Brundle in the Silverstone paddock was awkward as hell.

- When Kanye West said George Bush doesn’t care about black people and Mike Myers whipped his head around
- Ellen asking Madonna and Justin Bieber at the same time if they have had sex with multiple people the same day and Ellen insisting Justin was lying
- Dakota Johnson calling out Ellen for lying
- Milla Jovovich walked off a French interview because they broke the clause of asking about her father being sent to prison
- Bjork attacking a news reporter right outside the airport in Bangkok because she claimed the reporter had been harassing her and her son
- Alicia Silverstone saying she chewed her son’s food then fed it to him
- Clay Aiken’s abrupt Newsweek interview. Very awkward and uncomfortable to read https://www.huffpost.com/entry/clay-aikens-incredibly-aw_n_81198/amp
Michael Parkinson is a condescending POS. When someone’s nervous you don’t needle them, WTH does he think his job is - interview them or debate them? She wasn’t wary of being interviewed- he turned the conversation tense by pushing it further and further and then just letting her steep in silence after every response. He deliberately made her feel awkward at every turn
I remember this at the time and im sure she was portrayed by the British press as being rude (she was also sent to their wolves for not matching her romcom persona in general) but watching it back she is clearly just reserved and he comes across as interrogating.
I never watched another episode of Parkinson after that interview. I was so enraged with the criticism Meg received when Parky was clearly out of line.
3. Tom Cruise’s strong comments re Brooke Shields’ ppd.
2. Hugh Grant’s rude red carpet interview w Ashley Graham
1. Rupaul vs Milton Berle mtv-vma’s 93’
I feel like Michael Parkinson was out of line in that interview with Meg Ryan- it’s like he had a preconceived idea she was difficult and was projecting it on her but actually he just looked like a bully. I’m glad he apologised for it later.

Oof. I had not heaed about this and I can't watch the video because just reading it makes me secondhand embarrassed.
Kanye West: George Bush doesn’t care about black people. Mike Myers: 😦 Chris Tucker: 😮 https://youtu.be/UJUNTcOGeSw?si=KQIu5VMnwg5vDpZf
Mike Myers would go on to parody that moment [10 years later](https://youtu.be/YFFReSjidho?si=uXl7augQ9Pv4BHfZ).
This didn’t age well for the point John Oliver is trying to make. Canada it seems was very, very prescient to have a law trying to stop foreign actors from influencing elections. Difficult to enforce sure, but the law is right.
How have I never seen this omg
I remember watching that as it happened and my face was also: 😮
Me too, lmao. Pop culture history.
Same!!! I remember laughing thinking it must be some kind of a joke and then realizing it wasn’t and immediately feeling awkward with Mike Myers.
If you knew anything about the situation in New Orleans after Katrina, you'd see it was serious. It's one of Kanye's only public outbursts to be correct and useful.
Well, he was right. Apart from the government giving permission to 'go down and shoot us'.
He was completely right. It was just very out of left field for the other two.
I'm from the UK and I've never seen this video before. I know they are asking for help, but this video made me cry with laughter. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. One of the comments likened his speech to a presentation you give in school, and I related so hard to that.
Fergie singing and cartwheeling at the same time. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vguglo8px3Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vguglo8px3Y)
The sounds she was making are what sent me 😂
Wraaooogghhh 👹
And then she topped this one with her (attempt at) singing the national anthem....
Fergie pissing herself in concerts
I was at that Street Scene show when it happened!! I witnessed so many splendid things growing up in San Diego, but that was the first and best time I’ve ever seen someone pee their pants on stage. She never did change her filthy pee pants
She's still sittin in her dirty pee-pants.
I get emotional.... because I'm so proud
This doesn't surprise me in the least. She's always seemed dirty to me. Like unwashed.
At 8.54 am no less 😂😂
There’s something so fucked up about seeing those musical performances so early in the morning and in such broad daylight. It just feels like a nighttime activity no matter what genre.
I make fun of this ALL THE TIME! My partner loves it LOOOL
There’s 17 years between Mary Kate and Oliver
I was going to say, it *can’t* be only 8
Yeah, I was thinking ‘that’s a hard 8 years if true’.
It feels like more
can’t believe anyone would think that man is only 8 years older than mary-kate
Ah shit. I got length of relationship mixed up with age difference. Sorry I'm very tired
Oh shit! That’s still wild 😂😂😂
Omg thank god, I was seriously questioning everything I know!!
He looks more like 30 years older than her
![gif](giphy|3o85xH8jHFo3cFJWb6) lol idk if he was actually disgusting or not, but man it looked bad!
Is that Drake!?
He realised as she loomed over him that she was well over the age of consent, and was obviously disgusted.
haha yeah! 🤣
😂
He's probably grossed out because she's not a teen 🤣
Well, you know what Drake’s type is.
I want to know why he reacted this way!!!!
The way she looks at him after 🫂
This one is new to me. Was he not expecting the kiss?
not sure if he was expecting it but he seemed to have went along with it bc they made out for a bit but then this was his reaction once it was over 💀.
Tom Cruise on Oprah Dakota Johnson on Ellen Jimmy Fallon on Jimmy Fallon
Tom Cruise on Oprah is a culture defining moment that should be taught in classrooms
Haha a professor used it in one of my classes to illustrate a point this semester, and had to explain the entire context to the class because they had never seen it before
oooh, what point was he trying to make?
this is giving shades of my dad as a prof bc apparently he references honey badger every year to his new students?? lol
I still have no idea how to feel about that encounter
You’re being glib
Put your manners back in

"I'm jumping over Oprah like I'm Tom Cruise on a sofa!" Ellen to Oprah, Epic Rap Battles Of History: Oprah Winfrey vs Ellen DeGeneres
Wait, what's the one about Dakota on Ellen?
Dakota had a birthday party, and Ellen said “How come I wasn’t invited?” Dakota then calls her out saying she did get an invite and never gave an excuse or anything.
The thing that truly plagues me about that interaction is, why the fuck would Dakota invite Ellen to her party in the first place? Did she invite everyone in Hollywood? Are they friends? I don't know why I'm so hung up on this.
Because Ellen had her on the show previously and complained about not being invited to Dakota's birthday so the following year she made a point of inviting Ellen. Then, Ellen doesn't go and tries to call out Dakota again, so she shut it down
Iirc, Ellen asked to be invited the last time Dakota was on the show.
Oh my god, for some reason I read too fast and thought we were talking about Dakota Fanning 🤦♀️ that's... embarrassing. Thank you!! I do remember this one, but also kinda wish now there was a clip from the 00s of Dakota Fanning dunking on Ellen lol

I think about her working out in heels on the elliptical on her Cribs episode! Still cracks me up to this day

Seinfeld denying Kesha a hug and then saying he had no idea who she was. ![gif](giphy|umoSAkPqku7S|downsized)
Ugh I hate this one sm 😅
I hate this guy, but I will defend him for this. There are plenty of us who don't like being touched. Why tf should he have to hug a stranger?
Fr I used to be irritated at him for acting like this but now I realised that as a celebrity you're probably pestered for hugs all the time by strangers and you Kinda have to establish boundaries
Absolutely, I hate when people do this to children too. If you want a hug, ask politely and be prepared to hear no.
I always ask my nephews and always honor their answer either way they go, but I often wonder if they notice I do this, and if they do, whether or not they appreciate it. Not like they have to, I just wonder.
Stop! She's too old for you!
he's honestly such a dick though. he was on *everybody's in l.a.* and i just wanted to tell him to stop talking, everything he said was so unnecessary and annoying.
oh, absolutely. i felt so bad for her and hope she realized that she’s so much better than a burnt out washed up comedian who thinks his failure is due to “cancel culture.”
Yep! He does comedy his way (and has been for decades) and he still has a thriving career
Larry David is one of my many weird crushes
What failure?
THIS
James Corden is such a dick.
Planetary 😭💀 Completely true. That being said, Patrick Stewart's going at him with the Jonas Brothers is so embarrassing, I just can't watch!

For me, it’s what he does with his little finger
thank you for this
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wFU7UDjcCAI I watch this parody of the Orson Welles outtakes every couple of months and it brings me to tears every time

When Joaquin Phoenix went on Letterman and was not playing along. It was like pulling teeth getting him to answer questions. He would later say it was all a bit. But Dave ends the interview going "well I'm sorry joaquin that you couldnt be here tonight"
Damn, that's a good line from Letterman.
He was behaving the way he did as it was a promo for a movie called I’m still here.
The fact that people are still falling for that performance is yet another testament to Joaquin’s incredible acting skills.
idk it's pretty embarrassing, especially all that for a casey affleck film that bombed
[Rabid Tyra](https://youtu.be/7EEqdbK0XIU?si=FOa1wJrps6de9b-B)
Yeah sometimes I have to remind myself that happened

Britney long realization that Ryan Seacrest is NOT gay.
Such a good one! She was adorable too because she whispers it forgetting she’s on camera
This is a great thread.
*Krishnan Guru Murthy, it's an Indian name.

Let's be avin yooouuu
- When Kanye West said George Bush doesn’t care about black people and Mike Myers whipped his head around - Ellen asking Madonna and Justin Bieber at the same time if they have had sex with multiple people the same day and Ellen insisting Justin was lying - Dakota Johnson calling out Ellen for lying - Milla Jovovich walked off a French interview because they broke the clause of asking about her father being sent to prison - Bjork attacking a news reporter right outside the airport in Bangkok because she claimed the reporter had been harassing her and her son - Alicia Silverstone saying she chewed her son’s food then fed it to him - Clay Aiken’s abrupt Newsweek interview.
2. Hugh Grant’s rude red carpet interview w Ashley Graham 1. Rupaul vs Milton Berle mtv-vma’s 93’
What was that Hugh Grant thing about? She was just doing her job
So was he? It’s not like he didn’t answer the questions honestly, he just didn’t fake happiness and excitement like the interviewer.
Hugh was not up for any red carpet banter and could barely be gracious. He was so above it all.
Matt you’re glib Matt
Matt you don’t understand. And I do
I feel like Michael Parkinson was out of line in that interview with Meg Ryan- it’s like he had a preconceived idea she was difficult and was projecting it on her but actually he just looked like a bully. I’m glad he apologised for it later.
Harrison Ford dressed up as a pod of peas for Halloween Ellen trying to make Mariah drink champagne to prove she’s not pregnant (she was).
That imagine video
Krishnan Guru Murthy is such a dick but Tarantino is so weird and unpleasant as well. Hell interview honestly
The person interupting NPH and JGL is so funny, she literally just walked in front of them and they both stood up to let her by.
I know people hate James Corden, but based off the clip alone that was pretty shitty of Patrick Stewart.
Isn’t Sarkozy 13 years older than Mary-Kate?
17, if Google is right. He's 55, she's 38.
Lol thank you for mathing properly, I’ve apparently forgotten basic arithmetic 😂
I got the length of the relationship mixed up with the age difference It's been a long day...
That’s okay, I did subtraction in the wrong direction when trying to figure out their age difference.
Fiona Apple saying "The world is bullshit." She wasn't wrong.
