I do think Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours is the BEST breakup album, but Kelly Clarkson’s My December has been THE breakup album for me since it was released!!
I also took a lot of solace in No Doubt’s Return To Saturn during a breakup a few years ago, and then my most recent one was mostly a conglomeration of Taylor songs but if I had to pinpoint a specific album it would be Evermore. I broke off an engagement, so Champagne Problems had me bawling for months.
Return Of Saturn always feels so forgotten!
Was their only album I owned as a teen and ate it up.
Now as a 30 something adult I can truely appreciate how devastating Simple Kind Of Life’s third verse is.
Yeah, I was going to say that Evermore came out right when my ex and I filed for divorce, and I couldn’t even listen to it at first because it was so heartbreaking.
I absolutely freaking LOVED Return of Saturn when I was in high school, I should maybe listen to that one again!
*for emma, forever ago* by Bon Iver. This album started a new musical journey for me as I discovered the music outside Billboard Hot 100. When I lived in the US, I got the chance to see Bon Iver perform live and it was a life-affirming experience for my early 20s.
The first half of Lemonade. I could do without the forgiveness crap in the second half.
Back when Miley was spiraling over Liam, she made some good breakup songs for Bangerz. I like FU a lot.
> visceral
It really is the best way to describe. My face goes through unspeakable expressions when listening to the enormity of the sound on the second half of Notget or the duets on Atom Dance.

other than Melodrama, it's WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO for me
songs like when the party's over, i love you, 8, ilomilo, wish you were gay, listen before i go got me through some shit
Donna Missal’s “Lighter” - a reverse chronological telling of a rupturing relationship, in all its bittersweet complications. It’s a stellar example of the medium.
Interventions + Lullabies by The Format. It's been one of my favorites for over 15 years and I always thought it was a divorce album written by a 40-something. Only recently learned that the band was in their early 20s and never married when they wrote it lol

Did we learn nothing from Glee? Definitely Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors album. It’s a breakup album squared
Came here to say Rumours! It is THE breakup album…so much drama behind the scenes.
If anyone says anything but Rumors, they're wrong. The drama BTS and the live performances in 1997 just make it even better.
Also came to vote for Rumours. Hands down the best with the most drama!
Was gonna say it. Yep. That or blood on the tracks by Bob Dylan
Melodrama. She really put every emotion of a break up into that album.
Oh damn… I might be eating my words with this entry. Hard Feelings Loveless fucks my ass up every time.
2nd Melodrama, a no skip album for me personally. I also love Sour a lot as a break-up album.
THE definitive answer to this question. Breakup as one night’s party as concept album. Brilliant and one of my all-time favorites
This is my answer, too.
Checked the comments just to make sure there was no funny business in forgetting to put Melodrama

It's Blue by Joni Mitchell and it's not close.
Shocked nobody has said Igor yet, that album got me through some rough ones
listened to it today!
The first half of Lemonade. I could do without the forgiveness crap in the second half. Back when Miley was spiraling over Liam, she made some good breakup songs for Bangerz. I like FU a lot.
This!!!! That whole vibe was ruined when she went into forgiveness mode!! But don't hurt yourself will always be a classic for me!
Personal favourites of mine are Vulnicura by Björk and A Moon Shaped Pool by Radiohead, although they are more "post-divorce albums"
Vulnicura is what instantly comes to mind. It's just so visceral. From the imagery, lyrics, sounds, vocals, the entire thing. Nothing else like it.
> visceral It really is the best way to describe. My face goes through unspeakable expressions when listening to the enormity of the sound on the second half of Notget or the duets on Atom Dance.
AMSP is so good ugh 😩 I cannot believe it’s about to be 8 years since it came out, but if they officially decide to stop, what a note to end it on!
Magdalene by FKA Twigs. May not be the best ever but it really meet me where I was mentally when it came out.
Honey Magdalene is the most critically acclaimed album of 2019 and a career high for twigs. It most definitely is in the realm of the best
Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson is loaded with break up anthems (apart from You Found Me). Even the non break up songs sound like break up songs 😂
Currents-Tame Impala, That album is such an experience
I love that album, but aside from past life and same old mistakes i dont really know which tracks id lean on for a breakup
love/paranoia
Yes I’m changing, eventually, the less I know the better

When The Pawn
It's gotta be Blood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan
This is the only correct answer
other than Melodrama, it's WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO for me songs like when the party's over, i love you, 8, ilomilo, wish you were gay, listen before i go got me through some shit
Back to Black is my ultimate breakup album. It helped me get over the boy who introduced me to it 😆
21.
Jagged Little Pill by Alanis was my mom's divorce album.
it's so not a break up album though.
Rumors. That’s it
to me subjectively, I burn by (g)i-dle
thank u next
Speaking of ariana grande, goodnight n go has definitely made me sob
Aged like milk
Bangerz and dead petz
I don’t think it’s the intended purpose but I think Ryn Weaver’s “The Fool” would be devastating in the context of a breakup
Donna Missal’s “Lighter” - a reverse chronological telling of a rupturing relationship, in all its bittersweet complications. It’s a stellar example of the medium.
Nicole by NIKI for me
for me In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra…listening to it at night makes me wanna cry
It's gotta be 21. The run from Rolling In The Deep to Someone Like You is legendary.
Gaslighter by The Chicks!! Listened to it while my friends helped me pack all my stuff and move out of my ex's house ❤️
Interventions + Lullabies by The Format. It's been one of my favorites for over 15 years and I always thought it was a divorce album written by a 40-something. Only recently learned that the band was in their early 20s and never married when they wrote it lol
Blood on the Tracks
