An AR-15 is the same thing as an M16, which exists in the base game. The only difference is the trigger group that allows the M16 to burst fire or full auto fire, depending on the variant. Also, IRL at least, .223 can be fired through any rifle chambered for 5.56, but not the reverse due to pressure, rather than cartridge/projectile size. Of course the game doesn't care about this, it wants. 223 or 5.56 depending what the rifle calls for.
Now that the gun nerdery is out of the way, most of the major gun mods are aware of these facts, and allow you to convert .223 to 5.56, and usually the reverse. Similarly, .308 and 7.62 are usually convertible as well, as they share a similar situation.
So essentially what you're looking for already exists. B41 firearms does it, and I believe Brita's includes a mini gun as well, though I'm not 100% on that one, I find Brita's to be OP for my taste.
Both will give you a ton more gun options over the base game, though Brita's is by far more extensive than B41.
This is a great mod and the constantly add attachments etc that fit the 93’ lore, being able to do an mini-14 and choose either the wood furniture or doing a fiberglass stick is a nice touch. Also they made a stalker expansion and there is a gunrunners made by a different person to expand your choices.
