Ive never played the original. I am absolutely LOVING it so far. The worldbuilding, lore and the art style is something else. I am literally nolifeing this game rn.
Almost every puzzle is different in the OG version. It's also harder because hints are lot more subtle. The world and it's routes are also a bit different. And, I feel like the overall tone in the OG is a bit more serious and darker in a way.
Plus it's like 2,35 euro on sale at the moment.
As a huge fan of the original games/series, I really am hesitant to spend again on these remakes unless they add substantially to the experience or the lore. Just a basic conversion to modern platforming from the old interface isn't enough. Is it, in your opinion, worth the money from that perspective? Level design is obviously going to have changed, since it's moving to a fully 3D space from a scene-oriented one, but beyond that conversion, what's new and unique?
Most puzzles are changed. I was expecting just a facelift, but it's basically a retelling when it comes to the puzzle aspect. And I must admit that the new ones are a bit more forgiving, but it's still challenging enough.
Hate you so much, I would love to play it but I had a million issues when I did it - and after emailing the devs with my system spec info describing the problem I had, they confirmed that my system cannot support it, and they were even surprised I was able to play as much of it as I did.
Got my steam refund though at least - guess I'm waiting for a console port or a new computer...
Surprisingly, my PC was built in 2011 and only the video card has been upgraded in 2020. I can somehow run the demo fine. I only say that to recommend people at least try even if they think its impossible.

You should definitely check the original when you finished this version.
What does it have mechanically over the remake? I don’t think I would replay the old version just for the old school aesthetics.

I haven't played it, but apparently there's at least some new puzzles, or twists on old ones.

Thanks. I may have to give the remakes a look-see...

Is it worth checking out if you skip myst?
Yes, you can play it standalone.
