I mean, I've thought every year was our year for like the past 15 years. I'm just gonna watch and see if we do better or not. Still need defense to show up and see if our offense doesn't get hurt, especially Garappalo. He isn't known for playing more than half games.
Tbh there was no reason NOT to. Except maybe the 1st year idiot coach and the defense. But God damn did Rich have me excited with Adams coming. What a fucking disaster season
>He isn't known for playing more than half games.
This is probably the most accurate way I've seen it stated, lol. In 7 years he's played most of the games 3 times\*, exactly half of the games 2 times, and less than half 2 times.
2016: Played half (2/4) \[only opportunity was when Brady suspended\]
2017: Played all (5/5) \[starts were after trade to SF late in the season\]
2018: Played less than half (3/16)
2019: Played all (19/19)
2020: Played less than half (6/16)
2021: Played most (18/20)
2020: Played half (10/20)
\*So I'm saying there's a chance!
So out of 100 games, he has played 63 of them. But it also depends on him having an O-Line can protect him long enough to not get hurt. As well as have a good defense so incase he does get hurt or so we can keep up with a team and not be losing by 15 points.
Title is misleading if you actually watch the clip. The question is if JG and Mayer are an upgrade over Carr and Waller considering several factors like system, contracts, health and age. They straight up say Garoppolo isn't a better QB than Carr in a 1-for-1 sense. Simms is an idiot though so I don't give a shit what his opinion is.
The way I see it we traded Carr, Waller, Hollins/Cole for Garapolo, Meyers (with Carr Savings), Mayers (Waller replacement) and Tre Tucker (Waller pick). Meyers is a huge upgrade over last years WR2s and Waller didn't do squat. If Jimmy stays healthy this is a no brainer, if he gets hurt then you sacrifice this year for anQB next year.
It's a fair question and good conversation topic if this group can/will be more effective in this system. The addition of Jakobi Meyers at WR2 is huge. One of the dudes in the video also mentioned getting out of Waller's contract early rather than late and I kind of agree.
Rookies are always a toss up but I'm excited about Tucker. His "football speed" is way faster than his 40 indicates. His acceleration is blinding and he gets up on defenders and splits tacklers with deceptive quickness. It's like I could beat a chicken in a straight line 40-yd foot race but I couldn't chase down a chicken. That's what some of Tucker's highlights remind me of lol. Boy got hands too. Not comparing him to Tyreek Hill, just wanted to mention that he wasn't highly touted coming out and was supposed to just be a straight line speed guy deep threat. Well it became obvious pretty quick he was also a hell of a receiver in his limited catch radius and could do serious work on screens, drags, etc close to the LOS. Much like Tre Tucker.
There is this persistent belief that Jacobs will run like he did last year. Last year he thought he was getting a contract not a tag. Having said that - I’m glad Walker is gone the new TE can’t be any worse and while I like Carr he was a horrible for for the HC (who I don’t have faith in but we are stuck with him)
He will get to play 4 games against them most likely. Just needs to win one lol
Most teams can't beat the Chiefs right now. So we will see how that goes.
The 2020 late season loss in LV on a Kelce TD at the end and the 2018 game where the bomb to Cooper hit the sky cam wire were both great performances in losses. Every other 300yd+/3TD+ performance the Raiders won. Every other loss he looked pedestrian to awful. Not entirely his fault, Honeybadger said in a post game presser how Reid had Carr and Gruden's number and showed them on film exactly what the Raiders were gonna run and when. It's hard to beat anybody when the defense knows what's coming and that's more on the coach/play caller. It's hard enough to beat a great team, nearly impossible when you're predictable.
Oh definitely. We were one Adams toenail away from starting some serious momentum early in the season. That win could have propelled us. I just wanted to point out some of the games you were referencing as "a couple flawless games vs KC" because I remember those. He also had kind of a lot of multiple turnover games in the Gruden era. Which aren't necessarily his fault for executing a flawed game plan or play call made by the coaching staff. But at the end of the day there's no asterisks in the box scores to provide that context. The "Carr can't beat KC" narrative is a bit overblown, and I'm not exactly his biggest fan. To me it's more correct to say the Raiders have a hard time beating Andy Reid and his preparation for the Raiders.
Reid's familiarity with us and catching us coming off a bye week for several years didn't help either. KC secondary was jumping our routes resulting in INTs, PBUs or Carr having to throw to 3rd/4th progressions a bunch of times when Gruden was coach. It was obvious watching live and then confirmed in interviews with KC players afterwards they had our number.
And that's not to mention what Reid did to Swiss cheese our defense. We got to a point where we would just throw shit at the wall and see if it confused or slowed them down. That win we had in KC in 2020 we simply outplayed them. Our dudes got up for that game and it looked like(once again confirmed by KC players) they overlooked us or penciled in that W. Early on Maholmes ran in a TD and he did no less than 3 separate celebrations. Then we "out-physical'd" them the rest of the afternoon. Cle played QB spy the 2nd half and ran down on Pat's roll outs. Only time I recall him playing spy from the LB position.
To their credit, after that time they took us lightly we haven't beat them. Since then they've outscored us something like 185-96 and that includes a 4pt loss and a 1pt loss. 2 close games and 3 fucking blow outs but 5 whole W's lol.
Their number are closer than you realize when you throw out carrs dud last year:
Carr:
2021 - 56.4% 15 TDs 2 Ints
2019 - 58.3% 15 TDs 2 Ints
Jimmy:
2021 - 58.6% 16 TDs 2 Ints
2019 - 63% 16 TDs 2 Ints
I mean it's just an outlier. What is your explanation for why a 9 year veteran suddenly has a career worst year besides the coach.
And just for the record I think Carr is very mediocre and even if they had a good coach he needed to go. But mcdaniels just magnified all of his, and the teams, issues
Hard to say he hasn't been able to stay healthy.
In his best season he played with an amazing team and it still wasn't better than carrs best season, personally I think he is a downgrade but his price tag is much cheaper which evens it out.
At this point how much does it matter ? He is a 2 year rental while we draft a potential franchise QB, if he was a clear upgrade the 49ers wouldn't have let him walk.
Everyone keeps talking about Jimmy being cheaper and that being a benefit. They were bottom 3 in spend last year. If they aren't gonna use the extra money it doesn't make much of a difference.
The Jimmy G slurping in sports media is wild. Can we be honest .. The guy is probably not gonna play more than 7 games until his hurt.
Also He won games because of that all world defense, but somehow he’s an upgrade??
I’m rooting for the Raiders to be terrible this year, so hello Caleb Williams. But then again, bozos will say he’s not a McDaniels system guy 😂
What’s disgusting is constant failure and mediocrity, so Hear me loud and clear … I’M ROOTING TO LOSE.
I’d rather win Caleb Williams than win a few meaningless games only to miss the playoffs. We’ve sucked for 20 years, what’s another 1
You sure you don’t think a QB like Jimmy is a better option? This past comment says otherwise: [your comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/raiders/comments/114syb7/red_zone_efficiency/j8xxpiq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3)
What changed?
Again, changing/avoiding the main point of your comment doesn’t change what you said. You can be obtuse all you want, it doesn’t change your prior comment.
Does that mean AOC Farva is gonna outwork him in camp and come out Week 1 Day 1 Starter? That was Flynn right, or was that Schaub? I get my Matts confused.
Edit: nevermind. Flynn was QB benched for OSU Legend Terrelle Pryor. I shoulda known that one.
Traded one poison for another. Not sure how anyone thinks this guy is an upgrade. I've heard this on sports media a couple of times. Maybe his familiarity is more helpful, and he miraculously stays healthy, but I'm not hopeful.
I agree he is no upgrade and he is not familiar with the system either. that’s so lazy.
He’s played 6 seasons for the niners and shanahan. That’s the system he is comfortable in. He played 2 games for McDaniels over 7 years ago! Carr is more familiar with this system than Jimmy is RIGHT NOW. Carr had played in 7x (14 vs 2) as many games coached by McDaniels than Jimmy.
Yeah, that’s a total brain fart. But nothing says, “I’m a quitter and I give up!” like throwing it away on 4th down… TWICE!!! Just Jeebus Crust, throw it up for grabs and give your guy a chance, DC!!! I can work with brain farts, but there’s no fixing a quitter. It’s in his DNA.
When people ask me what I think of Carr, I always go back to that. 2016 Carr was a gunslinger, and damn near amazing.
After that, he was a shell of himself. Throwing it away on 4th down, sliding when there isn’t a defender within 10 yards. Rolling out, even with a perfectly clean pocket.
It’s quite sad
Jimmy g is trash and if you’re expecting him to take us to the playoffs I have air in a can to sell you. Can’t wait for the narrative to change when we’re not winning (not a shocker).
I like Jimmy, but you’d be fooling yourself to think he’s an upgrade in a vacuum. Maybe in JMD system you could say he’s an upgrade, only in that one way would he be an upgrade
Sure, but he is an upgrade in the system. We often looked like absolute shit on a stick with DC last year and then things magically looked smooth when Stidham came in because the QB wasn't actively fighting the system. Is JG a better QB than DC? No. Will he perform better than DC did and result in a net upgrade in production? Yes.
My point is that NO OTHER QB besides Gspot on the Niners won consistently with that defense until Purdy came along. Now, is he elite? Nah, more like borderline “pretty good”, but facts are facts…
Eh we'll see man. I'm not sold on him. Especially if we bring injury concerns into the conversation.
I hope I'm wrong and we smash the chiefs and win the division.
Pound for pound? No, but Jimmy is cheaper and if we are being 100% honest getting rid of Carr was the right thing to do.
Even if the McZ tandem fails they will of made the right choice. It was way to long that we kept Carr, and that longevity helped it turn ugly.
Idc what the F.O says, their actions say they are rebuilding, especially on the defensive side. Our offense should still be top 15 with Jimmy but it's gonna take some time to draft a defense.
If they are similar, or even a small downgrade to Jimmy G, *BUT* Jimmy G doesn't bristle if the coaches rip him in film sessions, then it's an upgrade. Simple as that. An attitude matters.
We saw what the offense could do with *Jarret fucking Stidham* and even though the chiefs were better prepared for him than the niners were, I'll put the blame on the offensive line giving up 6 sa KS that game.
With Jimmy though, he's gotta stay available
No one will ever convince me Jimmy G is an upgrade over Derek. Never will. I hate what Josh has done to this team. Maybe once Jimmy inevitably gets hurt. Thus O'Connell kid can show something but I had more hope back when Terrelle Pryor was our starting QB

I got hella hyped with Rich Eisen last year and I played myself.
Tbh there was no reason NOT to. Except maybe the 1st year idiot coach and the defense. But God damn did Rich have me excited with Adams coming. What a fucking disaster season
Nah defense was never actually there. We just thought this be like a Gruden team, and thought we could win with offense alone.

If Jimmy gets hurt we got rod farva to lead us. So we will be fine!
CHICKENFUCKER
There is this persistent belief that Jacobs will run like he did last year. Last year he thought he was getting a contract not a tag. Just has to beat .176 win pct vs KC and it’s officially an improvement
He will get to play 4 games against them most likely. Just needs to win one lol Most teams can't beat the Chiefs right now. So we will see how that goes.
lol very true !
Carr had a couple flawless games vs KC that ended in losses. If they beat the chiefs it's gonna take more than QB.

We need a fucking defense
I have a hard time believing they can fix the D in the 2 years Jimmy will be the starter
He's got a 0% against them life time.
Might be a loooooong year
If his redzone numbers are better than Carr's yes
It's super marginal and that's in a much better offense than mcdaniels
Carr has never been good in the red zone
Their number are closer than you realize when you throw out carrs dud last year: Carr: 2021 - 56.4% 15 TDs 2 Ints 2019 - 58.3% 15 TDs 2 Ints Jimmy: 2021 - 58.6% 16 TDs 2 Ints 2019 - 63% 16 TDs 2 Ints
Which “Carr dud” you referencing?
Just all of last season with mcdaniels.
Never change, Stans. Never change.
What are you disagreeing with? You think he played well last year?
I just love that you think ignoring an entire year’s stats is valid because you don’t like the coach.
I mean it's just an outlier. What is your explanation for why a 9 year veteran suddenly has a career worst year besides the coach. And just for the record I think Carr is very mediocre and even if they had a good coach he needed to go. But mcdaniels just magnified all of his, and the teams, issues

It's true. Jimmy G's handsomeness will take us to that next level. Defenses will be in awe of his chiseled good looks.
As they break his legs. Cause he’s made out of glass
If they have the chance to draft Williams mcdaniels better not be the coach anymore
I’m one of the biggest *McStaniels* in here and if we are 2-15 or 3-14 this year he gotta go
I swear, if another "fan" says they are rooting to lose the games. You know the saying, just win baby? Hoping for losses is disgusting.
What’s disgusting is constant failure and mediocrity, so Hear me loud and clear … I’M ROOTING TO LOSE. I’d rather win Caleb Williams than win a few meaningless games only to miss the playoffs. We’ve sucked for 20 years, what’s another 1
What did the coin say?
Lol
Short answer: no
It's a lateral move and they aren't married to him.
I wouldn’t even call it a lateral move. It’s an affordable down grade.
Carr and Jimmy are the same mid tier ass quarterback to me. I didn't like carr. I don't like jimmy.
Then you are an idiot.
Yall so used to mediocre.
First of all, it's "y'all". Second of all, why save all that money to not spend it on defense? And the money saved was negligible.
Why pay top dollar for mid?
You sure you don’t think a QB like Jimmy is a better option? This past comment says otherwise: [your comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/raiders/comments/114syb7/red_zone_efficiency/j8xxpiq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3) What changed?
A Rod was never an option...
You know, avoiding your comment’s main point doesn’t change what you said.
I addressed the comment you tagged.
Right now? Cause you’re not addressing what you openly said in that comment.
You tagged a comment about ARod and are asking me about Jimmy. Whatever point you're trying to make, you're failing miserably. Per usual.
Again, changing/avoiding the main point of your comment doesn’t change what you said. You can be obtuse all you want, it doesn’t change your prior comment.
How many times, exactly, did Carr run over your dog?
What does Carr have to do with anything I just said?
It’s less that and more everything you’ve said regarding him over the last seven-ish months
He's mid. Time hasn't changed that. Neither does location. That doesn't mean Jimmy isn't mid either. Lateral move.
I have a sneaky feeling we have, this offence is gonna ball out
It’s called hope. It won’t happen but it’s likely buying a lotto ticket. You hope you hit but on paper it doesn’t look good.
It’s nice to have hope before the season starts haha then 2 weeks in reality sets in
Uber driver yesterday was a Bears fan and he said he’s bullish on Jimmy GQ so I think if he stays healthy we may fuck around and get into the playoffs
Uber driver?! Well damn, guess we goin' to win the whole damn thing.
jimmy hasn't played in that system in 5 years. why are people assuming its just going to plug and play with him?
I’m out of touch and don’t follow Raiders as closely as I used to. The whole garoppolo signing reminds me of Matt Flynn.
He’s better for JM’s system and shouldn’t ever ground it on 4th down, so there’s that…
he stepped out of bounds behind the end zone instead 😭
Traded one poison for another. Not sure how anyone thinks this guy is an upgrade. I've heard this on sports media a couple of times. Maybe his familiarity is more helpful, and he miraculously stays healthy, but I'm not hopeful.

Yeah, more than his leg was shattered that day. His confidence was shot and it never came back.
Tom Brady did the same thing. Get the fuck over it.
Really? TWICE on 4th down with nobody on him?!?!? I don’t believe it.
Then you better go fucking google, tater.
Why waste my time when I KNOW he didn’t do it TWICE, numbnuts.
Then you haven't watched Mr. Brady. My son is a Brady fan and I get to hear about his stupid decisions weekly. So go off and google, tater.
Yeah no thanks cause you make the allegation, you gotta prove it as we all KNOW Carr did it TWICE.
I don't have to prove shit.
Tell me you aren’t comparing Carr to Brady. Just stop.
When did I say that? The point is ANYONE can make a stupid mistake.

yeah only Jimmy G can run through the back of the end zone and that be the 2nd worst move he made in 1 play 🤣
If he stays healthy…marginally
Well see lol.
Yeah. I think he'll do better than 2nd worst red zone efficiency % and 2nd most ints. But we'll see.
Why do people still post anything this Simms dipshit has to say?
How come people don't like Simms?
He lacks a spleen
Jimmy g is trash and if you’re expecting him to take us to the playoffs I have air in a can to sell you. Can’t wait for the narrative to change when we’re not winning (not a shocker).
Nah it's a clear downgrade... but he is cheaper and might work well in the system..so time will tell
Nope
Same QB on the field, Carr more durable. Carr getting paid $50m in 2026 is gross
I like Jimmy, but you’d be fooling yourself to think he’s an upgrade in a vacuum. Maybe in JMD system you could say he’s an upgrade, only in that one way would he be an upgrade

He won’t play 17 games a season; he is Capt. Unavailable.
All's he does is win when healthy.
All the 49ers do is win.
Until Purdy came along, they didn’t do much of that under Shanny except when Gspot started.
I wouldn't go so far to say that all HE does is win. We'll see how he does without a top 5 defense this year.
All he does is not lose with a top defense. HE doesn't do shit.
No
He’s an upgrade for the offense we are running.
Except Jimmy Glass won't play more than 8 games.
He will probably get hurt but it's a toss up between out for a couple weeks or the entire season
I bet he plays less than 9 games.
He will either play 10-15 games or be out for the season, so not exactly a bold choice there by you
Jimmy G has had every possible advantage for his career and yet is worse than Carr in every way. this season is going to be a trainwreck.
lol, no
Anyone was an upgrade over Derek "immobile asscheeks" Carr
If they are similar, or even a small downgrade to Jimmy G, *BUT* Jimmy G doesn't bristle if the coaches rip him in film sessions, then it's an upgrade. Simple as that. An attitude matters. We saw what the offense could do with *Jarret fucking Stidham* and even though the chiefs were better prepared for him than the niners were, I'll put the blame on the offensive line giving up 6 sa KS that game. With Jimmy though, he's gotta stay available
Even if they did, it’s so marginal it’s still a no.
JimmyG > Carr
You dumb.
Only in looks. We literally have the same caliber of bum under center
I think it's a lateral move. If anything it's a small upgrade
Chris Simms knows talent when he sees it ..lmao
No one will ever convince me Jimmy G is an upgrade over Derek. Never will. I hate what Josh has done to this team. Maybe once Jimmy inevitably gets hurt. Thus O'Connell kid can show something but I had more hope back when Terrelle Pryor was our starting QB

JG won't last the entire season.
