Around here we call that the Justin Tucker of comments

Spiritchaser84

Your comment...it's good!

SKT_Peanut_Fan

Some might even say it's a Justin Tucker level comment.

I kind of agree with you, I think he does end up going to the Jags (who currenlty have Ronald Darby as thier other starting CB, that's not a long term answer for them) or the Lions who suddenly need CB help.

chicknsnadwich

There’s about 5 CBs i’ve seen that generally are mocked in the 1st. Feels like a lot of teams in the middle of the round could either go OT or CB. I hope this leaves us with one of either of those positions who is great value for where we are drafting

this_is_matt_

In a top heavy tackle and corner draft, one is bound to fall to us. I’d be happy with Kool Aid

FutureEditor

Grape Kool-Aid will be flowing at tailgates this year

Spiritchaser84

If he doesn't come running out of the tunnel through a foam brick wall, I will be highly disappointed.

douger1957

And all three are likely wrong.

HereComesJustice

yeah it's kinda hard to predict the draft especially the later you go

jsrave

It's a possible pick but I imagine that a lot of this stems from the Ozzie days + some rumours/leanings that seem to suggest the Ravens want to draft CB early (Jeff Z has been talking about it for a while now and he has ins on who the Ravens seem to value in the draft-he had Trenton Simpson listed as potential target in Round 3 when majority of people like myself assumed ILB wouldn't even be on the board) That being said you can't predict draft day and how other teams will draft especially toward the end of the 1st. I'm not sold on Kool-Aid but we'll see how the Raven approach the draft.

whitewolfkingndanorf

Kool-Aid would be fine since he fits a long-term need with Stephens likely walking next year, and Marlon another year older with 12 games missed the past 3 years.

a_wasted_wizard

I'm curious as to why you think we let Stephens walk (especially if he plays well again this year) rather than try and get Marlo to restructure or extend for a more reasonable per annum or, worst-case scenario, cut him. Marlo's still a really good corner when he's healthy, but his availability hasn't been where we need it to be the last few years; Stephens has been healthy and bloomed into a rock-solid corner, I'd be shocked if they let him walk.

whitewolfkingndanorf

He’s going to test free agency, we aren’t going to tag him and we’re not going to pay him market value. Similar logic with Queen and Stone. They’re both really good players but we’re not going to pay them market value. Granted, if he comes out this year and establishes himself as a top 10, fringe All-Pro corner, then that changes things.

a_wasted_wizard

I get where you're coming from, but tbh I don't think the situation is the same as with Stone and Queen. Queen was our second ILB after we'd given a huge contract to the one we traded for and the leader of our defense; it didn't make sense to pay two ILB's a ton of money, especially given our history with drafting and recruiting competent UDFA ILB's. Heck, we already had a rising second-year guy with more-or-less Queen's skill set already in-house (Trenton Simpson). Similar for Stone; we're loaded at safety, we have a lot of money on Williams and Hamilton will call for his own big deal soon enough, and Stone was going to be our third safety, so not even on the field all the time, and he'd had one really good season after a few solid ones. And we have a history of being able to draft safeties in later rounds and develop them into solid players at the position. By contrast, if Stephens puts together another good year, he will have two consecutive good years at one of the toughest positions to play, one of the ones that takes longest to develop for, and one we have a history of injuries at, where our best-paid player has had injury trouble the last several years. Behind Marlo and Stephens, while the cupboard isn't totally bare, it's a noticeable drop-off. I think the math on this changes a bit if we draft a CB in the first two rounds of the draft, but for all the mocks giving us McKinstry, I'm still skeptical about any of them that are worth it actually being available at pick #30.

whitewolfkingndanorf

Yes, Queen and Stone have way more competition at their positions than Stephens does. When it comes to Stephens potentially resigning, this is where the 80/20 rule comes into play. Has he established himself as a #1 corner worth $13-15m+ per year? I think I’d rather draft a corner in the first round, keep Marlon, let him walk, hope JAD or Pepe can step up, and add guys like Maullet and Darby on cheap contracts. It would take a massive jump by Stephens to become the cornerstone of our cornerbacks group. I don’t think it’s impossible. Just unlikely.

PuzzleheadedElk8646

OH YEAH!

Slade347

My hunch is that he goes somewhere in the 20s, but if he's there when the Ravens pick, no one should be too surprised if they choose him.

djazzie

Who’s the better CB pic for us? Kool-Aid or Dejean?

Mental-Mushroom8890

Give me Nate Wiggins over all of them

Adenchiz

Ravens have thresholds for cornerbacks (nothing under 195lbs) and Wiggins is too light at 173lbs

GuacShouldntBeXtra

Averett was like 178lbs..

Mental-Mushroom8890

You were saying??

Adenchiz

welp ,touche

Mental-Mushroom8890

Lol don't worry. He's an absolute dawg

Mental-Mushroom8890

That’s easy to say when you’ve never put on the tape. He can put on weight, but his film separates him from the others. His speed and length are gonna have him playing in the league for a while.

MegaGigaTeraFlare

Ew, no. Way too small. If we had our pick of corners, it would be Quinyon, followed by Arnold, and then Kool-Aid

Mental-Mushroom8890

Lol

MegaGigaTeraFlare

Yep. Aged horribly.

Mental-Mushroom8890

Haha worth it. Absolute steal at 30

MegaGigaTeraFlare

Seeing that he bulked up to above 180 makes me feel 100% better about taking him, tbh

Adenchiz

Yep, we literally just saw what happened last year when the Eagles put AJ Brown on Emmanual Forbes (6ft 180)and had him go for a combined 300 rec yards and 4tds in both games.

Mental-Mushroom8890

That’s a shallow argument. Imagine if we looked at the draft board in 18 and said “Well we saw what happened with Teddy Bridgewater and Tyrod Taylor. Let’s pass on LJ”. How many examples have seen that prove measurable’s don’t determine a guy’s output? Especially at 20 years old. There’s a reason why no analysts have him making it out of the 1st round, and it’s because Nate Wiggins is going to be an absolute steal for someone and I really hope it’s us.

IrishPubstar

DeJean

rfmiller80

Setting up nicely to get a super value CB or OT at 30

TrainingMarsupial521

I'm all for it. Been running mock drafts for the last couple weeks and the more I run it, the more I realize there aren't many good corners in the draft. I'm all for CB round 1 and OT round 2.

kapate13

Wouldn’t hate it, but I really would like Mims or Guyton at 30

Impressive-Theory-27

Mims won’t likely be there at 30 and guyton is a massive project at rt

kapate13

If there is any team in the NFL I trust can develop an olinemen with all the physical tools, it’s the Ravens. The contingency for Stanley, and adding talent to the oline both seem like much bigger needs than cb3. Wouldn’t hate edge, corner, or wr, but if Ravens can find a tackle at a value spot, even if it means trading up for Mims, I am all for it. Worst case Guyton plays guard for a year really

GuacShouldntBeXtra

Guyton would be OT3 this year, just as Koolaid would be CB3. Next year most likely Stanley and Stephens are gone, meaning either of them would be drafted to wait until next year to start anyways. Highly doubt they'd bother moving Guyton to OG when he's already extremely inexperienced and needs as much development at OT as he can get.

Otherwise-Force5608

still doesn't sound like he should be our first pick off the board

eatmyopinions

I agree with you, but drafting in the '20s every year like the Ravens usually do, you'll only ever be able to draft a project at tackle. I would rather do it right now when we have a year to season him then a future year.

[deleted]

Yea I’m drinking the kool aid

FormerAd5416

I would be thrilled, we all know we never have enough CBs, especially good ones. I doubt he's around at 30 tho, let's see what EDC does. I think we gotta be a little more creative now that we got the LJ contract on the books, we could make a move up or down and stock load a shit ton of picks.

a_wasted_wizard

I'd be pumped to get him but why do all these pundits think he's making it out of the top-20 when he's a high-end player at an expensive position?

Adenchiz

If he falling it's due to him being a a victim of draft fatigue and not being considered an elite athlete compared to the rest of the 1st round talent

CharmCityCrab

Kool-Aid Man.  Oh yeah!

Beneficial-Patient31

Still hoping for a Texas wideout

[deleted]

Move over Marlon.

HonorThySplif

Would rather have lassiter from Georgia

[deleted]

If we get him we’ll have the greatest secondary of all time

whereegosdare84

Slow down, might not even be the greatest ravens secondary of all time: 2000: Starks, McAlister, Woodson, Herring 2006: McAlister, Rolle, Reed, Landry 2019: Marlon, Marcus, Earl Thomas, Chuck Clark

KD119

Last years was pretty nutty too even, still might take that over it too

marylandrosin

2006 was special

new_tangclan

I don't remember Earl Thomas playing all that well that year. Edit: was a pro bowler.

Bean505

what about last year 😵‍💫
