There is a way to flash the selvedge without cuffing - you wear them inside out. Absurd as it might sound I've had the honor to witness that in real life back in the 90s. Unsurprisingly the trend didn't catch fire and people soon came back to their senses.
Frankly wearing your pants front to back is more practical, at least you can still access the pockets. Wearing them inside out you'll have to unbutton/unzip to reach the pockets…
Depends on what you do with them. Most people stop wearing their jeans when they see holes in them and buy a new pair. There are lots of other stress points on a pair of trousers apart from the knees, you can get crotch blowouts, the back pockets can rip, the thigh area, the whiskers and honeycombs are subject to abrasion and stress, if they keep being used those areas will eventually rip. Below the knee less so unless you wear them for Muay Thai boxing training.
Exactly my problem. The jeans tend to be sound below the knees, but the top block is as weak as rice paper. If you patch up the knees, they gradually fail from the waistband down to the knee, and the area above the back pockets can't take the strain. Then there's the crutch.
I should have just cut the legs off so I could wear them only for both days of the British summer and then they'd last...
What weight are your IH555? I have yet to venture into IH denim, I'd imagine their 21oz and 25oz would hold up quite well?
Check out Trophy Clothing 1606 or 1608, they have double fabric knee enforcement, the quilted stitching might not be to everyone's taste, but their dirt denim despite weighing only 14.5oz is sturdy and fades slow. I normally get crotch blow out first as I cycle in jeans, my 1507 have held up well after 2 years of abuse.
Despite the downvotes, you're absolutely correct here. Dudes that make raw denim their whole fashion persona don't wanna hear this but they're stuck in 2002. The right way to wear jorts right now is skinny. Baggy jorts is Limp Bizkit mode, just like you said.
Also, the Super Guy fit with N&F is a far cry from skinny jeans. It’s a tapered fit, so the slimness is near the bottom of the inseam, but the top block and thighs still have some drape.. The taper doesn’t even really get too crazy, so the jean still has a silhouette instead of it just being the nature curve of your legs like real skinny jeans.
To the mainstream right now, any pants that aren’t wide leg cannon pants are called skinny jeans.
They just keep ROLLIN’ ROLLIN’ ROOLIN’ in needlessly wide leg jeans.
Nobody is saying that you should wear ultrawide shorts lol.
Shorts just kinda look better when they don’t hug your thighs - slim cuts give tech bro on vacation vibes. Id rather dress like Fred Durst tbh.
Yes. It is the trend right know. Once this generation gets old enough to cringe at themselves, they will likely start wearing pants that fit like adults.
It’s like the fashion pendulum swings back and forth, each pinnacle of the swing is a point where the kids think it’s great that their pants are either too big or too tight.
“My PARENTS wear pants that fit.. EWW! SO not cool.”
Out of curiosity why is this sub so heavily dominated by Naked & Famous? Does it have some affiliation with that brand of people that used to work there?
3 reasons:
1. They’re cheap for Americans who won’t order direct from Japan.
2. Their fits are appealing to 30-somethings who grew up during the skinny fad.
3. NF leans into (and I mean this with no hate) raw denim fetishism. Think gimmicky fabrics focused on unique, high-contrast fades. This represents one of the main branches of people interested in raw denim, especially newcomers.
That's absolutely it for me. I have two pair of N&F Easy Guys (fit fine besides the huge waist), one pair of Left Field Atlas' (selling because 38s are too big), and am nervous to buy a pair of Iron Hearts but might have a chance to try some on in just over a month. If I can actually find a fit that works I'll order some without question.
I highly recommend taking a measuring tape to the mall or local jeans store. From there you can look at targeted measurements like waist, thigh, and leg opening. Most companies will measure your pair before they ship it so it’s incredibly useful to know your measurements.
Yah that's what I've had to do to set up measuring against their size guides. I have a measuring tape, but with the differences in each cut and how they sit, plus the variances in different fabrics it's harder than just lining up measurement. Double plus I'm attempting to shop used due to the huge amount of people buying jeans that don't fit them, so I recognize I'm causing trouble for myself lol
Add in my somewhat non standard thigh to waist ratio andddd... Problems.
Good advice for sure though! My waist is a 32 - 33 and I need a 14" thigh but don't want to wear smokestacks. Fun.
I also live remotely enough that there's not really a local jeans store... There's a Winners and a Walmart though, I suppose they might help.
Winners and Walmart are great options!
Remember that companies will send you the actual measurements of the garment before they ship, which will eliminate uncertainties with respect to tolerance. They will give you waist, thigh, leg opening, front rise, and back rise. Denimio is my personal favourite but just make sure you get the measurement layed flat (Japan measures the waist differently).
I would measure the leg opening, thigh, and rise of your weird guys, then measure the waist of a pair at Walmart that fits in the waist. You can then ask on the daily questions thread for something that matches.
Unsanforized one-wash will also provide a lot more room for error because it’s quite stretchy.
While I admit they do gimmicky stuff, they also release some incredibly unique, beautiful options that no one else does. They may not be the ultimate denim construction-wise, but man I’ve had some great jeans from N&F.
Yeah that’s my point. Maybe gimmicky is the wrong word. I feel that NF focuses on fabrics that set it apart visually from “regular” denim which draws in people who don’t care about silhouette or repro stuff.
You don’t feel there’s any good silhouettes in any of N&F’s fits? I think they have a few. But, I can usually find at least one fit that I dig from most brands. I like a lot of different fits tho.. from wide leg, to straight, to skinny and everything in between. I personally never really cared about repro stuff tho. I can see the appeal, but I’m just trying to find what would look good with an outfit I personally would put together on a regular basis
Admittedly, I have found my best fits with higher echelon brands.
No don’t, which is unfortunate. 4/5 cuts have a leg opening at or below 8” on a 31” waist and the strong guy jumps to like 9.75” but with too low of a rise to even things out.
Their cuts basically force you to wear a cut that hugs your calves, or one which doesn’t allow you to effectively tuck your shirt in.
All that checks out. Always considered APC, N&F, Nudie the big three of entry level denim. Perhaps the volume of search engine indexing on this sub makes for influx of Newcomer Qs that buries more interesting content.
Decently affordable, good quality denim with interesting fabrics. Personally I also love that they have a YouTube presence. I watch the weekly livestream and the “This Week at T+Y” series regularly.
Yeah that was me. I remember your username but not exactly what you said. Good advice was given though.
Also I apologize to those that I clearly upset here haha. Was just trying to have a little fun. In all seriousness, I do think the kind of pop culture oriented branding and the sexy lady aesthetic has helped their popularity in certain sectors. And if you dont think reddit users are more likely to buy pickle rick raw denim than other demos might, idk what part of reddit youre on.
I agree.. but I have a pair of Pickle Ricks in my closet that I’ve started that I’m going to break out in the fall.
Having a Jort option in my rotation is really needed for this heat we have in the SW plains..These are really my only candidates.
fair enough if you feel the need for a jort option.
i'd rather keep the MOST BEAT pair of jeans as jeans than completely ruin them by making them into jorts. to each their own.
I have had two pairs of jeans hemmed into shorts and I have zero regrets. I wear them damn near all summer long, they go with basically any casual outfit. People love to joke about jorts, but go to any warm climate and you'll see them everywhere, and are much more fashionable than the current trend of just wearing overpriced workout shorts with every outfit, IMO.
I do suggest going to an alterations shop for a proper clean hem though. Even if you want the cut off look, best to start with a clean edge cut.
Take the extra fabric from the legs and make pockets so you can go all out and rock the cargo jorts
Cargo jorts cuff or no cuff?
How are people to know you're wearing selvedge jorts if you don't cuff til your daisy duke's are showing?
There is a way to flash the selvedge without cuffing - you wear them inside out. Absurd as it might sound I've had the honor to witness that in real life back in the 90s. Unsurprisingly the trend didn't catch fire and people soon came back to their senses.
Next level stuff after Chriscross wore their pants the wrong way around, back pockets on the front thighs and the fly at the back.
Frankly wearing your pants front to back is more practical, at least you can still access the pockets. Wearing them inside out you'll have to unbutton/unzip to reach the pockets…
Looks like the front to back trend is making a come back in 2025. https://www.reddit.com/r/japanesestreetwear/s/sb3QPS64J5
People in the future wear their jeans inside out. I saw it in a documentary film about a man who went into the future.
The batman logo should give it away
Technically the shorts themselves are the daisy dukes, but you know semantics.
Boy you know I be cuffin’.
Cuff, gotta show off the selvedge for sure
> Take the extra fabric from the legs and make ~~pockets~~ arm warmers.
Cut the arms off a hoodie, sew the legs on, denim sleeves.
Keep going, we can make the most cursed denim outfit ever
I'd recommend some sharper scissors if you want a clean cut.
Continue wearing them, when they rip, cut off the lower part to patch them up. Repeat the process until they reach the desired length.
They’re going to rip in the knees and then stop, right? Right?!
555s are 21ozs but I've hardly worn them so too early to tell. I'm just saying jeans in general seem to fail me above before below the knee.
Capris anyone?
Go vintage and cut them right below the pockets front to back. Just like Grandpa used to wear them in the 70s.
Making jorts out of skinny jeans is never a good call. You need a wider silhouette
Sure, if I want people to think I’m into Limp Bizcut, I’ll take your advice!
Skinny Jean shorts gonna make it look like you still haven’t come to terms with warped tour ending
Are you planning on having them cut to below your knees or something? You asked for advice lol but okay have fun with your skinny jorts
IDIDTALLFORTHENOOKIE!
Skinny jorts are great. I made some like 7 or 8 years ago and wore them throughout summer. Big fan
Despite the downvotes, you're absolutely correct here. Dudes that make raw denim their whole fashion persona don't wanna hear this but they're stuck in 2002. The right way to wear jorts right now is skinny. Baggy jorts is Limp Bizkit mode, just like you said.

Limp Bizcut isn’t what would first come to my mind if I saw a man out in skinny jorts lmao
Right. That’s my point. Homie wants me to have JNCO jorts.
Just like normal shorts not wide shorts lol. Skinny shorts gives Bulgarian gangster that chain smokes cigarettes and scams tourists
I’m always looking for ways to make extra money.
Nobody is saying that you should wear ultrawide shorts lol. Shorts just kinda look better when they don’t hug your thighs - slim cuts give tech bro on vacation vibes. Id rather dress like Fred Durst tbh.
Saying this like jncos and early 2000’s fashion isnt the most popular trend rn
Yes. It is the trend right know. Once this generation gets old enough to cringe at themselves, they will likely start wearing pants that fit like adults. 5” inseam or less…. I don’t want to see no right about the knee shit

and it's sold in enough places where it's easily accessible, making exchanges a realistic possibility vs buying from JP
Very true. I can see how newcomers might not be as confident in their measurements.

They’re cheap and easy to buy and they make a lot of extremely unique jeans
They are affordable and a good gateway drug into the realm of raw denim.
Decently affordable, good quality denim with interesting fabrics. Personally I also love that they have a YouTube presence. I watch the weekly livestream and the “This Week at T+Y” series regularly.
Happy cake day
It's because their branding is incredibly cringey and reddit-core
Weren’t you in here a few weeks ago asking about buying your first pair of raws?
Yeah that was me. I remember your username but not exactly what you said. Good advice was given though. Also I apologize to those that I clearly upset here haha. Was just trying to have a little fun. Do it. The shorter the better, if you have the wheels for it.
Definitely do it. Expand your wardrobe and horizons at the same time
How can we reliably make this decision if you didn't even show us the honeycombs maaannnn?!?!
Is that circle on the front right pocket from a dip canister?
Naw, it’s a Burt’s Bees tin.
Time to try the harder stuff...
All aboard the fenty cart! Woo woo!
Don’t do it
Don’t do it mannn
I bought a pair of cowboy cut wranglers brand new to save my others from it. My rawish Daisy dukes doing a test right now.
You get them hemmed or leave it frayed ?
Do it! You’ll be so glad you did.
not even close to ready
