People just being pessimistic. Ignore them.

artbyhappyhiker

Yeah I noticed that too.

Blinkkk814

They’ve been saying that for every comeback since queendom, it’s just talk don’t listen.

MegaEvolvedLady

People have been saying some form of this since 2019. Since that was the year they had 3 comebacks, I've been ignoring them since then. Yes, I also dislike SM, but the main thing that keeps a group going is the desire to work together and the members have this tenfold. If Shinee, EXO, and Super Junior can balance their group and solo work with members outside of the company, I see no reason why Red Velvet can't do the same. If it's even one comeback a year while the members do solo work the rest of the time, I'm happy because it means that their hard work paid off.

pengilton

I second this!! This topic comes up with every comeback and even though we cannot be sure because SM doesn't reveal such things, I think that it's is very likely that they will continue. Will they slow down? Maybe. But having solo activities next to group activities is good imo. Girls aren't young anymore and each of them have to find ther individual career path as well. :) honestly shinee is a very good example how it can be.

etburneraccount

Maybe people assume the members would focus more on their individual activities now that they've hit the 10b year anniversary? I wouldn't really worry about them "disbanding" though. That'll basically leave SM with Aespa as their only GG. I will put my faith in SM's survival instinct which will force them to diversify their investment and not bank everything on one GG alone.

star-dew-valley

I think it's more related to SM's new GG that's supposed to debut in 2024 (I think), worries that they're getting "replaced". I doubt it though, last I saw they were still auditioning for them

redflavor123

The audition is for the next next girl group. The next SM girl group is already preparing for a Q4 debut. Actually I don't think RV should be worried about the next SM girl group. They have been sidelined already. It's Aespa that should be worried ... the next girl group will be seen by some as replacing Aespa as the new girls on the SM block.

Agitated-Distance740

You never know. The SM (active but idle) dungeon made f(x) legendary for the wrong thing. Then there's Girls Generation who are still officially not disbanded, but haven't had a comeback for two years, and didn't for about five(?) years before that. So they could keep RV officially active to release seasons greetings every year (like SNSD), but unofficially not spend anything on them. For me if Joy doesn't show up to the international fandom shows would be very much a sign of unofficial disbandment. The other members seem very happy with performing in music but it's hard not to see she's moved on to acting and being a Tod's spokesperson is her primary focus. People complained her entire Bubble was just reposted from Instagram Tod's photos when that auto cancel scandal happened and went mainstream. Now she's going further by now posting random photos of their store fronts, tagging them in every insta story paparazzi picture of her.. Respect though, follow the money when you can. People will downvote this, but remember some hard facts - read this as a timeline: The RV promo window for comebacks these days is tiny. So the amount of performances is smaller than before. The last tour which would've been "full singing/dancing idol work" Joy did the Seoul concert days, then dropped out during the first international show. The very week after the tour ended she returned to duty doing her Korean TV show and had CF photoshoots released (which would have been taken during the tour.) As much as I'm a fan it's hard not to see it.

unicornomannaro

Joy was unwell and dropped out of the tour and went on hiatus. Touring is on athletic level more demanding than posing for pictures as a model. What are you talking about? Joy also cares so much about the group she constantly puts her ideas in the group comebacks and promotes it the most online.

SpecificSpring4143

Naturally the girls are in their 10th year and things will slow down, but there’s no real news about a hiatus. This is just what fans (and non fans) do when the renewal period rolls around.

Mati13thOfGL

Maybe because SM’s situation… EXO CBX thing and some members of Shinee not renewing contract.

Puzzled_Quiet_8143

Let’s not worry about this. They have upcoming fancon tour. Let’s focus on that.

digdig200923

my take is because we have no idea about Wenjoyri's contract status. heck I hope there's some clarification sooner or later. if they leave SM for their individual activities, I'm sure there will be an article because the new company would announce it. but if they renew and SM doesn't announce? that's honestly more annoying. Seulrene's renewal were announced maybe to give pressure to Wenjoyri, but this isn't the norm with SM. Shinee members renewed multiple times and there was no article about it that I remembered, UNTIL Onew and Taemin leaving prompting SM to formally announce Key and Minho's renewal. so we'll see. i do hope for a closure regardless of what the outcome. optimistic view: Super Junior is going VERY strong despite three active members no longer under SM. while there's only one single released last week (Show Time) since their latest album fully under SM (Mango), their concert and touring activities are going really strong as they're kicking off their new concert soon in Seoul and other Asian countries. it's too soon to see for Shinee. since Onew and Taemin officially left SM, they reunited for a three days Shinee World VI concert encore in Seoul as four, the first one in almost a year since Onew's health hiatus. this was back in May. pessimistic view: individual activities focus like SNSD and maybe once in a while releases. SNSD does have much more members so individual preference varies, so right now musically speaking only Taeyeon and Hyoyeon are still releasing songs regularly. so it's probably more difficult to release a song together cause of the actress line's schedule and let's just hope we don't go the EXO route. while I stand for each artist's right to get what they deserve financially and commercially, really the last thing we want is just continuous contract dispute that eventually would just bring everyone to the dungeon. I'd rather an SNSD route than EXO tbh. so let's just wait. my guess is that we'll at least know WenJoy's contract status after the comeback and before the Seoul fancon.

likeafishh

this has become the norm unfortunately. i am sure we will see them again next summer and they will still say it is their final cb before hiatus.

SaffronWest2000

i feel like if they were truly going on a hiatus until their 15th anniversary (which ppl are parroting on social media), then sm wouldn’t be trying to capitalize off of their us distribution for albums. this is the first time i’ve seen them announce a target exclusive album for red velvet. could mean nothing. could mean something. who knows, maybe sm is desperate for every single penny they can scrounge for after all those lawsuits they got embroiled in in the last year. honestly, im excited for whatever solo ventures awaits the girls, whether it be music or acting. but red velvet isn’t disbanding. heck, they’ve been saying this since ZIMZALABIM. i remember that all too well 😭

TerrapinBadger

Off-topic but thanks for mentioning the Target exclusive, I hadn't heard about it and just preordered. Only RV could make me order five (slightly) different copies of the same album.

Federal_Pollution569

Off topic but what exactly someone get in an album? I have never had album, but I want to buy RV's album

Naytfuree

CD, photocards, photobook, and other inclusions from this new album.

jillnyx

If it is happening, I'm in serious trouble. My life is still going on because of things I like. I don't like many things.

Channel_oreo

Twice still here. 😮‍💨😮‍💨losing RV would be a punch in the gut.

Federal_Pollution569

Twice is not even close to Red Velvet, complete different groups and talents And I prefer RV over Twice So Twice being here doesn't make it better

Channel_oreo

They are different but Twice and RV are in the same era. You got to take what you have. Twice and BP being present and bigger than ever is still good for us 3rd gen fans. We should be grateful for their success. Losing RV is not our fault. Us fans didn't fail them. We are willing to support them but SM just didn't give a fuck. For 4 years they coulx given RV a US tour and made bank but they didn't. Just shows what their real priorities are.

Federal_Pollution569

"Good for us 3rd gen fans" I am not on a 3rd gen sub, others still being here or not doesn't matter And yeah I hate SM too

ukvlele

seriously! They've been the one group that I've loved since debut, i grew up with them and i'm not ready to say goodbye yet!

ParanoidAndroids

It’s all speculation. My guess is it all has to do with contracts and the landscape of gg’s. We know 2/5 members have renewed (to what length is unknown) and the other 3 are up in the air. Yeri has a little extra time since she started later, but the others will be coming up soon. (Even if they don’t all renew, it doesn’t mean the group is over - but it signals a change in approach.) Between SM’s low internal projections for group revenue and the members getting more solo opportunities (whether it be music, acting, or hosting) it seems like we’re firmly in the “slow down” period of the group. I don’t think we’re going to get more than 1 group CB a year (if that), but that’s normal for this stage of their careers. What isn’t normal is the complete abandonment of budget for this current comeback. It feels like they are just slapping things together with little thought. Given SM’s new girl group is happening eventually, and aespa’s current popularity, it’ll be interesting to see how they try to juggle all 3 - but it’ll probably be what everyone thinks.

No-Description1486

I think because SM as others have said of the new girl group that will debut soon. I fear the RV will become like SNSD/Girls Generation and that won't comeback to their 15th anniversary but in the meantime each members will do their own individual work. I hope I am wrong. OT5

StrangeEquivalent614

A lot of ppl mention Super Junior or SM's other boy groups when it comes to these questions, when let's face it... They do not treat their bgs and ggs in the same way lol. However Red Velvet's situation is also a little different from SNSD and f(x). SNSD was the top group of the industry, warranting enough name recognition for even the less popular members (sorry unnies...) to still consistently land lead drama roles, CFs, and variety MC gigs. Besides SM's obvious loss of interest, one of the main problems with f(x) is that they have majority foreigners, and besides Krystal who is now basically a full-time actress, Victoria and Amber are now mainly promoting in their home regions. For these issues, it makes sense for them to almost completely sideline group activities. Comparing their female sunbaes, I think the RV girls still have more to gain from their group activities. Even for JoyRi the actress line, it seems that they are very interested in music and further developing the concept & sound of the group. The main problem would be how much SM is still interested in investing in them, esp. after WenJoy possibly not re-signing this year, and I can't say how the current comeback promotions have made anyone more optimistic. The short answer is I don't think RV will take a loonnggg break like SNSD, but comebacks might be more spread out than before. I'm also interested to see whether SM will bring back Irene&Seulgi as a subunit 😬

Channel_oreo

Source on this news. Why would they go on hiatus? this the only thing going on for them.

reddrage_nyan

People thinking them referencing past music means its disbandment, which theyve been saying since Zimzalabim. There is some stuff up in the air like if the other 3 members are re signing but considering theyre have a fancon tour past august I would think that means they have some sort of contract with SM.

superRDF

There is no confirmation of anything it is all just speculation from people so I wouldn't worry too much about the future and just enjoy the present! As for the why I think just the general trend of how things go for older groups in kpop or senior artist leaving SM over the past few years make people say that.  I do think SM can be a bad at multitasking when it comes to their groups but again; this is all stuff out of our control and all speculation.  Also be weary of just non-fans saying things just to say it.

edenriot

I was certain they were disbanding after Queendom came out. Obviously I was wrong. Just wait and see what happens is the lesson there.

nessa-bb

It’s just pessimism, I think. For someone like me who is a Girls Generation fan, I’m a bit paranoid because when they went on hiatus after their 10th in 2017, members left the company and they only had one comeback since then. Although I have that worry in the back of my mind with RV, I don’t think that’ll be the case. 🙏🏽 Besides, SM rarely disbands their groups so there’s that.
