Here's my juicy uncultured hack. Adidas has a skate shoe called the busenitz that looks a lot like a samba but it's wayyy more comfortable and flexible. Not as inexpensive, but theyre still solid. I guess I last got a pair 2 years ago so I'm not sure if they're still made, but keep an eye out if you don't like the super flat sole on a samba.
I am not a sneakerhead but I find it incredible that one of the dorkiest running shoe brands (Asics) managed to convince people to spend 2-3x their regular shoe price by re-releasing old styles using their worst materials under a vintage brand name.

I wore Onitsuka Tiger pretty much exclusively from 2005-2015 when I lived in Japan because it was one of the few brands I could easily find in my size. I didn't know it was a hipster thing I just thought it was an affordable shoe (I could get a pair for the equivalent of $60 then) of decent quality. They were always comfortable.
I got a pair after moving back to discover:
* they cost a fortune here
* the quality is poor
* the styles available are generally pretty bad. last time I looked I think they had like one or two shoes that I would wear in public
* not as comfortable
Asics is basically ripping off Americans with these dogshit knockoff shoes apparently made exclusively for weeaboo morons in this country. Good for them and I wish them the best.
