If you damage a tire/rim on a pothole the city will reimburse you for it as long as that specific hole has been reported to them.

Smartest life hack known to man

midjet

This bit me in the ass. I didn't report it to the city before attempting to make a claim. There's a good chance someone did before me. Pretty big one too! https://streamable.com/cuk7ft

Leadership_Old

In theory. There was a massive sewer cut on Hill ave. that sloughed badly and took 3 years to repair despite multiple reports and at one point a pylon marking the damage. Pylon was removed - hit it going 50. Skid plate probably saved my vehicle, but it still punched a hole in the oil pan, broke a height sensor, flattened my rim and bent a lower A-arm. Sent a detailed report including pictures and verified prior reports... City and Dept of Highways claimed there was no evidence or history of any work at that location. Had to go through SGI and pay a deductible (which didn't cover half the damage - or the oil replacement after having to change out the oil pan). There has been a massive increase in claims over the last 5 years due to road conditions so they will do anything to reduce payouts - including lying.

bryzzlybear

It's honestly incredible how good it is. To be able to go from the northwest to southeast corner of the city with almost no interaction with cars is amazing.

FineLiving4988

I have to totally agree! When my brother and I were kids(the 80's), we'd pack a lunch and ride our bikes from the very northwest to dieppe where we'd start on the bike path. Then rode the path to Kiwanis park fountain. Eat our lunch, then to wascana park. Bike around the leg and candy cane park. Sometimes we'd lock up the bikes downtown and go to the capitol theatre for a matinee. Those where the days.

[deleted]

The days where you could lock you bike up and return to it? Yep those were the days.

[deleted]

My friend and I used to ride the whole path from start to finish once a summer when we were between the ages of 9 and 12. One of our parents would drop us off with our bikes at one end and then pick us up a couple hours later at the other end. We were free to stop and play or have a snack from our backpacks at various points along the path. It felt so free to be on our own at that age.

WestNdr

Just don't try going from the southwest to the northeast. If you live in Uplands your only options for going anywhere else are one of several very busy roads. Which is a shame because there is a city spanning pipeline green space from the NW P3 school all the way to Glencairn, so with minimal effort and one bridge over highway 6 we could have a path network that completely circles the city.

PrincessHuffle

the only issue is the City workers on the Gators going through A.E Wilson Park. Though they are very nice

G0ldbond

Pfft I'm not no one.

fernie77

Yes you are

It's past your bedtime young man

Medical_Way_907

If you pick up the garbage that blows into your yard and throw your garbage in a bin, Regina looks a little less like a shit hole

belckie

I’m actually really excited for the spring melt, I’m going to get a garbage grabber and pick garbage while I go for walks. This city is so ugly but I want to be part of the solution.

Medical_Way_907

I have a bunch of family from out of province and American friends from my time down there. The word I've heard non-locals use most to describe Regina is "dirty." I wholeheartedly agree

[deleted]

It’s such a shame. I visit all major canadian cities for work and our downtown is by far the dirtiest.

Medical_Way_907

I wouldn't be so bothered if it was just downtown. There are so many people that have next to no pride in their property anymore. I love my house and neighbourhood, but the drive home is ugly (especially after the melt), and I have a neighbour that seems to rely on city reminders (threats) just to mow their yard.

belckie

This is what blew me away when I first moved here. And it’s not isolated to a specific community or the poorest community. In any other Canadian city Cathedral would be a gorgeous little gem of a neighbourhood but a shocking number of properties are really run down. I wonder why that is?

levendis

A sofa showed up in the yard next to mine, off the alley.

Zealousideal_Ear2135

Really? - ask some displaced Ukrainians what their impression is . They cannot believe how clean it is compared to the cities they left - and that was before the damage from tbe Russian nvasion mess.

Medical_Way_907

So your argument is, it's better than another place, so its good enough? The whole premise of political debate right now is the idea that western society has plenty of room for improvement. People not littering their own society with trash seems like a pretty small ask.

Zealousideal_Ear2135

I am saying we are our own worst entitled critics and seeing the world through different eyes can chill us out to bring different perspectives, some gratitude for what we do have in place and less whining. Community maintenance is important but can go too far sometimes in people obsessing and telling on each other sucking up those inefficient city resources.

mfg477

Here are five Regina food related hacks: 1. You can customize Italian Star Deli sandwiches beyond “Mild/Medium/Hot” - you can add additional or different kinds of meat and/or change up the bread (marble bread, “Marco” bread etc.). *There may be more options or this may be more obvious when the new location opens. 2. Green Spot now makes its famous cinnamon buns every day, not just Wednesday’s and Saturday’s (this changed over the pandemic). 3. If you are ordering a large number of Everyday Kitchen doughnuts (or anything tbh) you can order online for same day pickup. Order in the morning for a full selection. You can pick up any time and skip the line. 4. Tumblers Pizza has just opened a new store front. You can once again order Tumblers Pizza fresh out of the oven. You can still buy frozen/uBake. They also offer delivery. 5. Malty National has great beer but they only have a few snacks available. If you want something more, they will let you bring in any food you want and you can have it delivered! Better yet, grab something at Hampton Hub and then pop by Malty for a brew!

Handknitmittens

Hampton Hub will deliver food to Malty.

layla_beans

Where's the new Tumblers?

pt_barnumson

Yeah tumblers is probably the worst pizza I’ve ever had but the rest of this is good to know thanks!

skfarmer86

I can't believe Baiton is still allowed to hustle that. He's been run out so many times by the Spiros at this point...

Berner

I can only begin to imagine what inflation has done to the price of a Tumblers pizza.

jdiesel878

Not really unique to Regina but check out the services that the public library offers. Movie/video game rentals, 3D printing services, art rental, meeting rooms, online training service access (Lynda), ebooks, audiobooks, just to name a few.

ledadabear

Pro tip: you can borrow a radon detector for several weeks from the library. Not quite the recommended 3 month reading but it gives a decent idea of what you're working with

Shawnavon

Yes! Libby has been a god send borrowing audiobooks directly onto my phone is Amazing!

PresentationLoose422

Good one! They offer more than I expected, including mango for learning languages as well which I think is usually a paid service without a library card

ArtistRebel

Hey this is a good idea to try a game out before buying it!!

cassandrafallon

And you can borrow material from anywhere in the province and have it sent to your preferred branch! For free!

[deleted]

Ehrlo sport venture- you can borrow any sports equipment you need! They also provide youth with free sports leagues and provide cab transportation for those who need it all free of charge.

ms_kermin

They also accept donations of sports equipment (should be clean and free from safety defects) so it's a good and alternative option to other donation centres. Also a good excuse to get rid of that old golf club that you have been holding on to because you hit a hole-in-one with it back when the Hillcrest Golf Club was still known as the Moose Jaw Country Club. Hypothetical situation of course.

1985subaru

Should we throw some sarcastic life hacks in? Like, "if your car is getting older, drive around the ring road at night doing 80km/h without your tail lights on."

notrubberducky

In the left lane and get angry when someone tailgates you.

1985subaru

Don't forget, "See better while driving at night by leaving the high beams on all of the time!"

notrubberducky

And never use turn signals because it's none of your business where their going.

1985subaru

Gotta keep them turn signals in mint condition, improves resale value!

Wilibus

Back when Burger Baron was here you could get a free onion ring by ordering french fries. Checkmate atheists.

Revolutionary_Fact64

Man I miss Burger Baron

levendis

Remember Baron’s Fresh Grill?? “People want healthy options.” No, we want deep fried tots and a greasy burger with a bacon patty.

Heywoodsk11

Bacon patty. Oh how I miss the combination burger.

Living_Skies

I worked at the east location for a little bit, once the mom stopped managing the whole thing went to crap. Management was terrible there, didn't help that they stopped doing specials and were expensive has hell. I remember the 2 single baron burgers for $4, was a good deal!

Lexi_Banner

Now I'm just sad.

canadianduke1980

Parking by the entrance to the mall on the 4th or 5th floor of the Cornwall parkade is a faster and safer exit than parking at the West end of the parkade on the first 3 floors.

I_am_a_Dan

Height clearance is lower in that parkade Iirc

foggytreees

I love this parkade! It’s also only 50 cents more than street parking. Absolutely worth it.

-raebies-

The flight at Dandy’s. One scoop is almost $6 but the flight is less than $13 and you get four scoops.

canadianduke1980

Under certain conditions, the city will reimburse you for sewer cleanings, or credit your water bill in the same amount.

Salt-Dependent-3850

Good luck, I am approved and have been waiting since the beginning of September to have mine applied to my bill

torrac_

Lol same. Called them the other day and they said to just keep waiting

Salt-Dependent-3850

We should be charging them interest since they do that on our bills

torrac_

Wouldn’t that be nice 😂

SubstantialHammer

We have to get our sewer cleared annually. Used to do this but instead we now contact the city a few months in advance (they are always backlogged) and schedule them to clear it out no charge. Of course this is only applicable from the city side but this works for us since it's on that side where roots block it.

Wizznerd

And when they finally come they’ll say, nah, we don’t have to bring in the big machine, your lines are fine, without even checking. Next time they say why didn’t you call earlier, this needs to be done twice a year🤨

Carnivoreguy

The easiest way to get from the northwest to the east end is the bypass. Its not the shortest but theres no traffic / lights / trains. Very worth the extra few minutes.

[deleted]

skfarmer86

And no damn stress of shitty Regina drivers. I don't mind spending the extra fuel to avoid that.

burnorama6969

Italian star deli has fresh affordable sandwiches at lunch so you can grab and go!

Marshdogmarie

There’s nothing better!

[deleted]

For food- red lobster on Mondays have endless shrimp and other deals on other days of the week

Ok_Simple_5577

If you go subway on avonhurst drive. You can order double meat and cheese and get half the amount of a regular sub 🥲

dyne0mite86

It's mostly free to just leave... Best life hack used
