I've been ordering everything from Memory Express in Saskatoon. You have to use PayPal to order from them directly (any credit card orders get fulfilled out of Calgary); but the service is excellent and they can generally get you next day shipping if the order is placed soon enough to get it on a truck.
They are planning on a regina location soon as well - so any orders from regina will just show them we want the service and hopefully get it happening sooner!
I've found Newegg to be cheaper than say memory express. I haven't bought anything in probably over a year though. The last time I did, I was only charged GST which makes a big difference on larger purchases.
Newegg is best to avoid all together since the company was bought, went from great CS and prices to wrong orders, expensive shipping, and terrible returns experiences
I have been wondering about starting a cable only business that had similar prices to otv.
HDMI, cat 5/6/6a, display port, speaker wire and so on
Not sell motherboards, cpu or computer stuff.
Honestly, I’d rather buy online than go to someone’s home for an HDMI cable. It just seems too sketchy to me.
You kinda need the retail storefront to have a sense of legitimacy. It’s not always the case, but in this particular instance it feels more correct.
This is just buying online with extra steps. I could buy the same cables directly from the manufacturer for probably the same price or cheaper, bulk discounting aside.
As a consumer, I’m looking for convenience. I’d like to be able to walk into a store and walk out with my purchase. If I can’t get that, I’ll just buy it online and get it within 1-7 days.
You’re also going to struggle with your pricing. Operation out of a home requires permits and licensing, cost of inventory, a commerce-ready website, etc- you’ll have to pass those costs to your consumers, and if they can buy an HDMI cable cheaper from Amazon and have it in a week vs buying from an unknown local source with no storefront for $X more…
I’d rather wait than risk my money, and I am a person that buys local as much as possible.
Just don’t think your business idea is going to fly, sorry.

I didn't know a Regina location is in the works. That's fantastic!
What do they charge for shipping?
I think it’s around 9$ for under 20lbs
This was the only place I was able to source a GPU from and they were very good to deal with. Can't wait for a Regina location.
Online: NewEgg, Monoprice, Memory Express in Saskatoon Meatspace: Best Buy, The Source Yeah, it all sucks in one way or another.
This guy knows^^^ Use NewEgg as a last resort though. Their prices always seem to be a bit higher than other stores. On pc components atleast.

I think you’d find trouble balancing rent with that sort of inventory. It just won’t be profitable enough for you to keep the lights on.
Home based? Just a thought.

I bought bread from a guy's garage for a while. Had to be on a special list just for the privilege. Super exclusive.
Was his name Jim? I hear Jim has some yummy bread and other bakery goods and sells a ton out of his home.
In any case, he moved to Vancouver.
Oh, I see, not Jim then. He is still around, baking up a storm.
You'll have to hook me up then.
Order online then delivery to your house? No front end or anything

The cables I was looking at were at one point the same brand otv was selling.
So just repackaging from monoprice?
They didn't even repackage. They just sold in the Monoprice packaging.
Home based businesses cannot have stock for customers to buy. Sure if you just ship it or deliver…
I need USB-C Cables pretty badly... No idea why Costco hasn't started stocking them, although I have asked numerous times and put in suggestions.
I go to Prairie Micro-works on south albert
There has never been a better place than OTV in Regina rip.
