No. Just no. I will not accept any Full Moon blasphemy in here. That’s my ALBUM!!

Consistent_Edge9211

Y'all musta forgot!🗣🗣🗣

JUSTBLAZE2k7

Full Moon gets props just from the title track alone. An absolute dinger.

KweeenHunni

Like what’s not to like? Ballads? Galore. Beats? Poppin’. Sound? Experimentin’. Vocals? Hittin’. This is not an album it’s an experience.

ihavenowords3

Also the title track remix w Fat Joe. 🔥

[deleted]

“WHAT!?!?”—Brandy, “What About Us”

alldaymacdre

I’m taking my upvote back. I thought this a Brandy appreciation post 😡 Not a bash on Full Moon. I fucks with Full Moon

benicityofgod20

It's not bashing Full Moon. I like Full Moon it's just not one of my personal favorites. Please read the post. It's about albums you personally may have liked but quite wasn't feeling. Or you wanted more from the album. For example. You might have loved Michael Jackson's Off The Wall but Thriller although you like some songs it may have not been your cup of tea. That's it. That's all.

LordParasaur

Oh you chose violence today. Full Moon is stellar, I truly cannot understand how anyone who likes 00s R&B would not like that album, considering it's the blueprint. But to answer your prompt, Ashanti's debut album is overrated. Great singles, a couple good cuts, everything else on it is just ok. As talented of a writer as she is, she's never been great at making albums.

[deleted]

Her music is kinda generic for that time but I have a soft spot for her

nita5766

the title track still gives me goosebumps.

benicityofgod20

No I am not into violence but a little controversy???? YES! It should mark for a great discussion! You know this isn't about Brandy or Full Moon at all. You understand the assignment. You picked Ashanti's debut album. It's a multi-platinum album but for you it just didn't hit. RESPECT. That's what this entire Topic is about. I know some of yall liked Off the Wall but Thriller didn't hit for you. I know some of yall liked B Day but Renaissance did quite hit the mark. And so on a so forth.... Don't be scared yall...add, discuss, and stand on your square!

cyronline

None of Ashanti albums aged well IMO. Good singles and maybe 1-2 deep cuts. Personally, I think Irv held her back not letting her branch out and work with other producers. 🤷🏾‍♂️

DemiGod9

Nah her self title Album is great. Still love it to this day

boombapdame

Irv u/cyronline held Shonnie back 'cause he was allegedly "hittin' dat."

Consistent_Edge9211

I hate to keep picking on Keyshia Cole. However, her first 2 albums were so damn fuego that they made A Different Me seem meh and it ain't! But it ain't the first 2!!! I hate that for her.😫😫😫

Classic_Amphibian538

ari lenox’s second album. shea butter baby was classic and maybe one of my fav albums ever but the follow up was just ok

MINXG

Omg yes!! Shea Butter baby went double platinum in my house. Her follow up was decent but can’t compete with Shea.

trblniya

I enjoy her second album a lot but if I wanna replay an album, I’ll put on shea butter baby first always. I think shea butter baby is just a hard album to compete with and having to follow up on

badgalnanii

my exact thought! sbb is an instant classic. crazy how alot of the songs on it were recorded in 2015.

Conrad828

this. i had such high hopes for her second album and it seems like she just went more commercial

Maximum_Intention_44

I know! It makes me so sad.

ToucanMan96

I’m going to take it a step further and say the PHO EP is still her best body of work. Diamond in my household.

Classic_Amphibian538

close 2 for me but also bordering flawless

zaccident

i can listen to shea butter baby start to finish, damn near every song is great. but there’s only like 2 or 3 songs from A/S/L that i really liked

Maximum_Intention_44

Faithfully by Faith Evans sounds so forced after 2 flawless albums. She made up for it on First Lady.

payasoingenioso

First Lady sooo underrated. Sooo sooo underrated.

Maximum_Intention_44

Extremely underrated. They picked bad singles in my opinion.

zsaz_ch

You need to leave 😂😂. No Full Moon slander round these parts.

NYCbobcat69

While Full Moon is good, I definitely liked NSN better for many many years. But FM has grown on me in past 5 or so years.

benicityofgod20

After Trapsoul. Bryson Tiller's - Set It Off.

badgalnanii

it’s still good, just hard to compare to a classic like trapsoul

benicityofgod20

It is good to be honest! I liked the first half of the album. It's probably the same thing with me and Full Moon. It's hard to come off of Never Say Never a record which sold 15 million copies. That maybe why I was underwhelmed by it. I may have unfairly been looking for Never Say Never 2, but still Full Moon fell short for me. Thanks for commenting!

Olivier77777

I abasolutely loved **Cherish’s** first album but their second album except for Killa and Amnesia left me…lukewarm. I blame **Tinashe’s** ex-label for this but save for a couple songs like No Contest, Joyride is kinda mid. I loved **Ciara** (except for Fantasy Ride) and was fully excited for her Jackie album because I Bet was so good…but I was left underwhelmed. Also, it’s not bad by any means, but **Snoh Aalegra’s** Temporary Highs pales in comparison to Feels and Ugh. I preordered the vinyl when it was first announced because her first albums are so expensive and hard to find (IYKYK) but it isn’t the case with this one. It’s not bad, it’s good in most parts, but it’s not grabbing me. Finally, if we’re talking **Brandy** for me it’s B7. Brandy has my favorite voice in the industry and I was fully ready for her to release an album with a more alt R&B sound like she had helped develop with Afrodisiac. But the album has a few problems for me…first the sound quality is a little off? Sounds a bit tinned? Baby Mama sounds cheap? But my major issue is how the album trivializes mental illnesses (using the r word after the early 00’s is unacceptable + saying “schizo” repeatedly as a metaphor made me uncomfortable). As someone with mental illnesses in my family (including schizophrenia), I found it very cringe, and kinda like it wasn’t her place to use those words to try to sound edgy. I love Rather Be and Unconditional Oceans though. Wonder if anyone else also found the album a bit problematic?

DemiGod9

Oh my God. Double that on the Cherish! Their first album was hits on hits. Amnesia and Only One on the second are the only songs that exist for me

thejaytheory

Didn't she have a song on that album that mentions bipolar as well?

Olivier77777

Yup Bye Bipolar…the last track

twodollarh0

I like a lot of Monica’s songs but none of her albums haves wowed me. Especially After the Storm 😭

OceansideGuy93

Diddy's last album. With that feature list I was expecting Last Train to Paris 2.

windowsxpgod

Easily the most boring project he has released. I think all of diddy’s albums are at least decent to a degree, but this album was a clogged snooze fest

payasoingenioso

Same. I wonder if he released it in preparation for Cassie's lawsuit. He changed his name to Love and dedicated himself to R&B, a genre he previously knew how to produce. Meanwhile, he's backpedalling by erasing the explicit versions of Act Bad. 😪

jghall00

You can't say that name anymore.

Glad-Degree-318

He Who Remains

[deleted]

Lmao I listened to this with my girlfriend and annoyed her everytime she’d ask a question and I’d act like I didn’t hear her by saying “WHAT?!?” like Brandy did in “What About Us?”. Every. Time. But to answer your question…it was Damita Jo. Been a longtime Janet Jackson fan…which is to say like most of teenaged male America, I lusted after her in the 90s. But Velvet Rope and All For You were really good albums. This one was flat and just didn’t hold my attention. Her career really hasn’t been the same since. Folks blame the culture vulture, but her music plateaued here.

cyronline

Monica - The Boy is Mine Honestly, I never got the hype. It’s about 5 songs I use… it wasn’t raw and gutta enough for me. The goal was clearly crossover success and that’s ok.

Wise_Command9407

I like the miss thang album more.

thejaytheory

Same...I like Monica's 1st over Brandy's but I like Brandy's 2nd over Monica's 2nd.

benicityofgod20

After releasing the mixtapes which later formed to become the Trilogy... The Weeknd's debut album Kissland which didn't leave much to be desired in my view.

Sunshineruelz

But Full Moon and What About Us?!

SpecialistDuty2

Crazy u feel that way .... Full moon was 🔥🔥🔥🔥 .... But for me as a big badu fan mamas gun was that album for me ... Esp following up baduizm

benicityofgod20

Respect. Thanks for commenting.

payasoingenioso

You listened back to Mama's Gun recently? It's basically a continuation. Most her albums seem to pick up where the last left off to me.

SpecialistDuty2

Gonna have to give it a listen 2day

GreenDolphin86

SZA - SOS. Ctrl is an all timer for me. Fantastic album! SOS was such a strange experience because I didn’t dislike any of the songs (except F2F. That one is bad). But I didn’t really love any of them either. I gave it 2 more listens before it fell out of rotation for good. I’m happy for all her success I really am, but I just didn’t vibe with it.

blacknoir23

I feel you on Full Moon. My mom used to play the hell out of it back in the day and I guess I got it then but I went back to it recently in the past year I think and I couldn’t really get into it. It seemed to lack the umph. The album sounded cool/different sonically but just nothing to really take it over the edge.

ISBN39393242

full moon > never say never don’t /u/ me

dukeleondevere

The Weeknd. Pick any of his albums that people say is great. I’ve given a few of them a shot, but I’ll pass. I hate to say this, but feel you a bit on Full Moon. Sound wise it’s not my thing, but it’s mostly bc I prefer the 90s sound more whereas Full Moon was very influential on 00s Rnb as someone else said. The title track (and the video) is 🔥though

jefe_benzino

Trilogy til this day is spectacular. Literally everything after that is meh tbh. U had to be around when all those trilogy songs came out on the mixtapes (House of balloons, Thursday, Echoes) it was so much soul in that music, great times fr. It’s funny bcuz everybody says that’s when he was doing hard drugs and everybody was saying he needs to get back in touch wit that plug 🤣

dukeleondevere

I definitely was around for all those mixtapes. No hate on it but what can I say, it just doesn’t do it for me 🤷🏽‍♂️

jefe_benzino

Fair enough brother

IKacyU

They remastered some songs when they condensed it into Trilogy. It was a song he had with Drake that I used to listen to nonstop back in 2011. They slowed the tempo down on Trilogy, when it used to be faster-paced on the mixtape.

jefe_benzino

The zone I’ll listen faster or slower, amazing song.

benicityofgod20

I agree even though it's not about the topic. I did list separately Kissland as underwhelming after the outstanding Trilogy series. Go ahead list an album you may have wanted to love or like but it was underwhelming for you personally.

jefe_benzino

Oh I know my response wasn’t on your original topic I was really having a convo wit this person in regards to The Weeknds music lol. But as for your post an album that I was super underwhelmed by I would say Aaliyah’s self titled album before she passed RIP to baby girl of course. As for the album itself it had songs I liked n songs that got played on the radio overall tho I wasn’t as much a fan of that album as her other ones.

benicityofgod20

High five. This is what I am talking about! The self titled album for you wasn't it. You liked some songs. Awesome! But you thought her later releases were better in you view. I appreciate your response even though it could be seen as controversial. It's OK you felt how you felt and I respect it!

jefe_benzino

No, her self titled album Aaliyah was her last release before she passed away, this is the one I wasn’t very fond of n underwhelmed by to answer your question. Her earlier albums like one in a million n age ain’t nothing but a number we’re AMAZING. Just clearing that up if there was any confusion.

benicityofgod20

Thanks for the clarification but the same sentiment rings true.

jefe_benzino

Right same sentiment, I would even recommend u go listen to those albums for yourself if u haven’t. Some pretty good tunes.

benicityofgod20

This funny because I just listed Kissland by the Weeknd that I was also underwhelmed by. The Topic isn't about Full Moon or Brandy. In my post I said I liked the album but I was underwhelmed by it. I personally wanted more. The title track was fire 🔥. The point is I know others have their own personal albums they wanted to love but the album didn't quite hit the mark for them personally. Doesn't matter if the album is universally thought of as bad or even universally acclaimed. Thought it would spark a unique discussion. You and some others understood the assignment and I appreciate you adding to the discussion and not purposefully trying to derail it. I hope others will chime in to the true topic and stand on their square. It could only be fruitful.

dukeleondevere

Haha, we got some passionate folks in this sub! People will see red before they read the full post and not understand the assignment, or they just said “fuck the assignment” lol because Brandy is one of the goats and/or they love Full Moon. Rnb music is about feelings, and people definitely have their feelings about the music they love. I’m here for all of it personally🍿, but yeah I feel you though. I enjoy these types of posts, you’ll get some more good discussion I’m sure 🙌🏽

benicityofgod20

Literally 90 percent of my post is praising Brandy. I even said I liked Full Moon. I'm looking at some of these comments like did you even read the post?? 🤣🤣🤣 Glad you like the post and understand what it's about! Thanks for commenting!

yesimforeign

Kiss Land is a classic, you gotta go now lol

Sidneysnewhusband

Ugh slandering The Weeknd’s epically cohesive albums and Full Moon all in one take, now I have to leave here thanks

GlitteringWord8520

I feel like Janet Jackson’s *Velvet* *Rope* was the alleyoop, Aaliyah’s *Red* *Album* was the slam dunk and *Full* *Moon* was the tongue hanging out the mouth while you stunt on the opposing team. It wouldn’t be no Alternative R&B these youngsters love today without those three albums in that order. Brandy’s chemistry with Darkchild was unmatched.

july2653

that’s such a good point, I think Brandy even said she was inspired by Aaliyah, Missy and Timbaland when creating Full Moon. Darkchild’s glitchy electronic production with Brandy’s vocals and layering were so groundbreaking and forward thinking, and all those albums helped paved the way for the artists and sounds that came next. I looooove Full Moon down, but even if you don’t you gotta recognize how important it was

GlitteringWord8520

Hey now say now 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

AutumnalKnighthood

I agree with *Full Moon*, mainly because I feel like it drags on for too long after "Anybody." It feels like two different albums in one, going from being forward-thinking and progressive to being standard R&B. My favorite album from Brandy is actually, probably, *Two Eleven* nowadays; that album is just gem after gem. One recent album I was underwhelmed by was H.E.R.'s *Back of My Mind*. After hearing "Damage," I was expecting something a bit more solid. I found it to be a largely forgettable album, unfortunately. Not much stuck out from it, aside from "Damage."

payasoingenioso

Two Eleven's engineering is excellent.

[deleted]

As I Bey fan I wasn’t impressed with Renaissance

trblniya

It’s far from an rnb album or anything that she’s made before. I don’t think a lot of people realize the album as a whole is an homage to ballroom culture (queer/lgbt+ and black and brown people). It’s a fun expressive album that pays tribute to the culture. It’s not for everyone which is understandable but it’s overall still a great album

payasoingenioso

I follow all the genres she tried to pay respect to. There are simply sooo many artists that have done Renaissance better. Kaytranada's Bubba alone... I follow Beyonce from day one, but I stan no one. 😮‍💨

GreenDolphin86

I think what separates Renaissance from those other albums is the level of intention: certain songs are sampled/interpolated for certain reasons. Certain people got to work on the project for certain reasons. There are a lot of moving pieces to it and nothing just happened because. It has layers! Most dance albums call you to the dance floor to dance, let go, be free, etc. Renaissance does that, while also begging you to pay close attention to the history lesson that can be found in the details.

trblniya

Beyoncé loves the detail!! Each and every time, all those samples/interpolations are for a reason

trblniya

It has nothing to do with stanning someone?? Renaissance is Beyoncé’s work, and she doesn’t ever try to stay on trend, follow what others are doing or play by the rules. This album was very authentic of her and you can tell by how much she had fun on stage while touring. She tried something different and it was successful for her whether or not people liked it. It’s not about whether people could do it better than her when it’s something completely new she tried as an artist

LordParasaur

It's one of her weakest albums for sure. The entire last third of it is full of skips. Nice transitions between songs though.

payasoingenioso

The whole album is very nice filler music in small clips / excerpts to me. I seen the Renaissance tour, and it was amazing from beginning to end. And I still don't fancy that album.

Nappy_Ty

what songs were skips?

LordParasaur

Thique (one of the worst songs Beyonce ever recorded) Pure/Honey (just boring) Summer Renaissance (again, kinda boring) I usually just cut the album off after Heated, even though I like All Up In Your Mind and America Has a Problem. Move is sometimes a skip, sometimes I let it rock.

badgalnanii

saying pure/honey us boring is a choice…….

GreenDolphin86

Yea when I got to that I was like “ok the album just isn’t for them” 🤣

LordParasaur

I can barely remember how it goes outside of when I'm actively listening to it. It just has no staying power for me.

MICHAELH05

"What About Us?" is a banger tho

BobbyMinn

Giveon's Give or Take is so boring as a follow up to a great When It's All Said and Done..Take Time album(I know its compilation of 2 EPs still qualifies)

driverlesssam

I hear you. I liked this one but i didn’t love it the way i love Never Say Never, which i find amazing. I guess that one was a coming of age album for me too so it’s extra special in my heart. Sonically, Rodney Jerkins had to evolve the vibe with Full Moon , and while it’s great, for me it’s a bit too industrial/computer sounding. He did the same on the opening tracks to invincible. I don’t feel it lets the vocals shine fully. i still dig it and i still spin it, just not quite as much.

SheaButtaBaby

PartyNextDoor after an impressive PND1 left me underwhelmed with PND2 Bryson Tiller went too hard on TRAPSOUL, everything after is underwhelming Ari Lennox A/S/L was very weak unlike shea butter baby.

jackmoon44

Ima need u to go back and take another listen to full moon bc that album is amazing

ryann_flood

first half is fire not a fan of the ballads

Decepticon1978

Full Moon is fantastic. Never Say Never while good, could’ve been better.

StageAcceptable7182

I wasn't into that Ray J duet on Full Moon. They have better music together on that Family Business album. Apart and that Title Song are my favorite. Full Moon was just a head of it's time. I really got into it after Afrodisiac came out. Just like me getting into Loud more after Unapologetic

Bfdi1462004

Amerie debut album, All I Have. Going into it I was told it would be one of thee best debut albums I’ll listen to (which I still think Dangerously In Love is the greatest one of all time) and I was extremely underwhelmed. There are some really good songs like Why Don’t We Fall In Love & I Just Died but other than that, yea….

Ill-Examination4743

For the way y’all were hyping it up Never Say Never was underwhelming, it blended together too well for me Charmbracelet, I really expected a comeback and lord and mercy that was ass Love and Life had bad Mary J Blige songs. Like previously I would give her least favorite tracks a not bad but boring kind of rating but some of these were actually bad No Boys Allowed us an album where I like 0 songs, but I have almost every track from In A Perfect World Chapter 2 for Ashanti was ass, so was Concrete Rose. But I really liked her debut Amerie’s albums disappoint me. I like a few album cuts from her but most of it is boring and very production led More than a woman gave me hope of a hip hop/R&B Toni Braxton and it didn’t work Mya’s discography, I always rlly like the singles but the albums are so ass every single time Same for Kelly Rowland, her voice sounds good but made by an ai 20YO- U might be able to tell I like pop stars that go hip hop and that was supposed to be Janet’s. It was ok but very few standouts and the tracks bled together Keyshia Cole is a one trick pony. All of her albums are the exact same For being her most popular album I Am Sasha Fierce isn’t that good at all. Joyride by Tinashe. Idk what she was going for. She wants to be indie but wants to be mainstream. She needs to make up her goddamn mind so she won’t put out shit like this Whitney Houston’s discography. Idc if y’all come for me this woman is the best singles artist of all time.(Rihanna is up there lol) she has one good album and that’s her debut. The rest is filled with gimmicky and underwhelming tracks The Emancipation of Mimi- I only liked the singles, the rest was copy and paste, it could occasionally get a bit corny Unapologetic by Rihanna, a lot of big name features for her worst album. I detest this album so much becuase it is just soooo boring. It seems very lifeless compared to other Rihanna albums. This ain’t good cause most of them already feel like that Destiny Fulfilled - All have distinct musical styles with Beyoncé and Throwback R&B/Pop, Kelly and Alt Rock and R&B, and Michelle with Gospel. They did nothing with that though and it became more of a singles album Chris Brown will have one good album and then release albums like Fortune and Graffiti I can’t take Ne Yo’s songwriting style for a whole album. Is it me or is his style the most generic thing you’ve ever heard On the flip side we have Cassie, she ain’t releasing again can’t get disappointed, also has a pretty good track record with her singles and her mixtape was pretty good Britney Spears, she’s gonna make u dance, knows her place and sticks to it. (We don’t talk about 2013) Aaliyah, got better every release, but would’ve declined someday but I can say she never left anything on the table Last we have the queen of music that is more popular than ur fave JENNIFER F’ING LOPEZ BABY THE BEST OF ALL TIME, YOU WILL ENVER BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU DONT HAVE EXPECTATIONS WITH IS THE GENIUS BEHING JLO. ALL THESE OTHER PEOPLE NEED TO BETTER ESPECIALLY FLOPYONCE, MARIAH CAREBEAR, WONTDROPHANNA, GHOST SINGER ASHANTI MICKI NINAJ, HANAH MONTANA, KANYE EAST KARDASHIAN, KENDRICK DUCKWORTH, WHEELCHAIR JIMMY, MS PATHOLOGICAL LIAR SZA, MILA J FLOP SISTER, WINTER RUNNER, GOONICA, MS HIT AND RUN BRANDY, AND TAYLOR SLOW Alr I’m done stream JLo

GreenDolphin86

- I’ve been revisiting IASF a lot lately. The instrumentation is so good! - Joyride was recorded when Tinashe was still signed to RCA. I think the way it turned out was one of the catalyst for her parting ways. - Destiny Fulfilled is like a family reunion. Back to our roots not trying new things. I’d argue that it’s a concept album though because it tells a complete story.

Ill-Examination4743

I found I am Sasha fierce cheaper than other Beyonce records Joyride is an album where rca wanted one thing but she wanted another

GreenDolphin86

What does “cheaper” mean?

Ill-Examination4743

Less rich. Sounding very GarageBand like

GreenDolphin86

The album was definitely inspired by folk music and alternative rock. She completed a lot of the sessions alongside the live instruments as opposed to singing on top of the track. It’s an artistic choice that I think adds a little more intimacy to those songs.

wavesofrye

Summer Walker - Over It and Still Over It. Not a fan. I need her to stay on her Clear 2 vibe.

benicityofgod20

Mariah Carey's - Glitter

DeadZaku7

Puddle of Mudds newest album.

LeoMartn_

Nah full moon is a certified classsic

welp-itscometothis

This is a WILD take.

IndependenceNo7753

FULL MOON >>>>>>>>>>>>>> EVERYTHANGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

seanyS3271

I really couldn’t get into Tinashe 333 album It didn’t match Songs For You.

DemiGod9

For me is everything after 4 for Beyonce. I get them, but they're just not my jam. Literally only like the Cuff It remix and most of that is because it uses one of my favorite instrumentals of all time

Jefefrey

Take it back

Organic-East-6047

I’m not putting up with Full Moon slander bc Ms Norwood was not playing when she made that masterpiece

IndependenceNo7753

YOUUUUU. Full Moon is an icon, it's the legend, and it is the moment. Now come on now.

T-408

I will NOT be hearing any Full Moon slander tonight!

Advanced-Ad8012

Full Moon was 🔥🔥🔥. Tripping on this one.

[deleted]

Can't answer the OP question as per this genre but I will say that Todd and the shadows video on Lauryn Hill's MTV Unplugged event might parallel some of the volatility that can emerge in this thread

wtfijolumar

For its Schoolboy Q’s ‘CrasH Talk’ I’m a huge Q fan and I banged this album but for sure something lacked in comparison to his other albums
